What's this? A sudden burst of inspiration? Hopefully it lasts long enough for me to finish this story. Brave Souls has really gotten me in the Bleach mood so I guess that's why I'm writing this after the one shot. I hope you all like this.

Uncertain Shinigami

It had been quite some time since Yujiro had been back in Soul Society.

Last time he was here, he was accompanying Ichigo in stopping Rukia's execution. Of course he had his own reasons for going along with the plan.

Originally he had tagged along because it was a chance at striking back against the Gotei 13. His mind flash backed to when he had challenged Yamamoto.

Fire spread around the area.

Head Captain Yamamoto stared ahead stoically as Captain Jushiro and Captain Kyoraku drew their zanpakuto.

"But what is the world's justice Head Captain?" Asked Jushiro.

The Head Captain was silent as he closed his eyes.

"There is no "world's justice." The only justice that's allowed here is Central 46's and the geezer's. Anybody who has a different sense of justice is automatically a traitor." Said a voice.

The three captains looked towards the source of the voice. Spotting Yujiro. He had his usual sleeveless black shihakusho. His dual zanpakuto drawn. Holding them in his reverse grip style.

"It's been a while. Little Yuji." Kyoraku smiled.

Jushiro smiled to.

"...So you have arrived Yujiro..." Spoke the Head Captain.

"Uncle Shunsui. Uncle Jushiro." He greeted them. Ignoring Yamamoto for the moment. His gaze hardened slightly as he stared at the Head Captain. "I told you I'd be back old man."

"You have gotten stronger." Yamamoto sensed. "You have also chosen to turn the very thing that got you exiled, into a weapon."

Yujiro smirked. "I'd ask if that's a problem, but we all know the answer to that. Don't we, gramps?"

Looking back on that whole thing it was foolish to challenge the old man. Even with Shunsui and Jushiro by his side, they would've lost. Although Yujiro didn't regret it in the slightest.

Sure part of his reason for assisting Ichigo was because he got exiled, but he also fought for Kisuke and Yoruichi to. Shinji and the others. They were unjustly exiled as well. He couldn't let that slide. He may not know Shinji, Kensei, and the others personally (aside from Hiyori) but they were innocent to.

If it had just been him that was exiled, maybe he wouldn't have been so aggressive. Maybe.

However it seemed a few captains chose to finally reveal themselves as traitors. Sosuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tosen had picked that day to betray Soul Society.

At the very least the Gotei 13 had seen Aizen for the snake he truly was. Yujiro was very grateful for that.

Now the war with Aizen was approaching and they all needed to be ready.

Currently, Yujiro was sitting in a tree. Laying down on one of the branches with a toothpick in his mouth. He reached up to adjust the old large straw hat on his head. The straw hat had seen many years. Cuts decorated the brim.

Yujiro casted his violet gaze on the moon up above.

"You are unsure of wether you want to stay here?" His zanpakuto spirit, Rakurai asked him.

"Yep." The young Shinigami replied.

"If I remember correctly, you took great pride in helping lost souls find their way and slaying the Hollow's that attempted to harm them. You don't enjoy that anymore?" Rakurai asked his master another question.

"That was the best part of this job without a doubt. I missed doing that if I'm honest. But being under Central 46's rule all the time ruins it. There is no true freedom with this job. And besides, do you remember why we were exiled in the first place? The dumb geezer and Central 46 are stuck in their ways. It took Ichigo causing a shit storm to spark any type of change. Even then, there was no real change." Yujiro's gaze hardening as he remembered the events leading up to now.

"True. A system that refuses to change and evolve will fall eventually."

"I don't know what to do from here on out. It's only a matter of time before Central 46 gets on my ass about something. If that happens I don't think I can sit around and bite my tongue." Yujiro sighed.

"Central 46." Rakurai began speaking again. "They are a bunch of fools who have never set foot on a battlefield and yet dictate how Shinigami do things. Incredible."

"You're lucky we're able to have this conversation in my head. If anyone heard us, we'd be branded as traitors." Yujiro rolled his eyes.

A part of him actually wanted to stay but another part of him wanted something else. He just didn't know what.

"Maybe you should talk with the old man and see what he thinks about it."

"Pfft! No thanks. That does give me an idea though. I do know two people I can get some advice from." Yujiro jumped down from the tree.

The golden bracer on his left arm reflecting the moonlight.

"They're probably either drinking together or sleeping."

"Better hurry then." Yujiro began flash stepping towards the person he had in mind. Towards his captain. If his captain couldn't give him answers right now then he'd go to the other person he thought of.

Sensing that one of the people he wanted to talk to was alone, he kept flash stepping his way over there. Tossing the toothpick away as he made his way to his destination.

Being back in Soul Society definitely had it's positives. Such as avoiding Orihime's invitations to having food at her place. He was beginning to run out of excuses to use for such occasions. He had only known the kind girl for a couple months but he wasn't sure if he could stomach her awful cooking any longer.

It was only a matter of time before she makes it to the Soul Society because of the abominations she calls "food."

Yujiro almost threw up in his mouth thinking about it. "Hopefully I won't have to taste her cooking again for a long time."

Yujiro made it to the door, knocking on it, he waited for it to open.

The door slid open, revealing Shunsui Kyoraku.

"Ah little Yuji. Nice to see you. I was just about to have a drink. Would you like some?" Asked the Captain as he allowed Yujiro inside.

"I have my own." Yujiro spoke as he took off the gourd that hung off his right shoulder.

Shunsui nodded and closed the door.

Yujiro took off his old straw hat. Showing his blue hair that reached down to his neck. Kyoraku took a glance at the tribal tattoos on the young reaper's arm. Covering the tattoo of his previous division.

"You're going to get that removed or no?" Asked the older man.

"Nah. Seeing that I'm in your squad now, it wouldn't look right if I showed off my old squad twelve tattoo. I definitely shouldn't have gotten that tattoo in the first place. After getting it, I started thinking about transferring to squad eleven because I suck at the science crap." Replied the young man as he sat down on the couch. Taking a swig of his sake.

"Right. Well what did you come here for? Having woman troubles?" Shunsui asked as he drank his own sake.

Yujiro shook his head negative. "I've been back in the Gotei 13 for a bit now and...I'm not sure if I want to stay..."

"Really? If so why did you join back in the first place?"

"Yoruichi and Kisuke suggested it to me. Said it would be good for me. I originally joined because the geezer was my hero. He made me want to become a Shinigami. I wanted to inspire the next generation of Soul Reapers just as he inspired me but then we got exiled...I still like being a Shinigami. Finding lost souls find their way and protecting them from Hollows is fulfilling. But constantly being under Central 46's rule..." Yujiro trailed off as he reached into his pocket and took out a lighter and a cigar.

"Hmm." Kyoraku hummed in thought as he sipped more sake. Understanding Yujiro's viewpoint.

Yujiro puffed out smoke as he waited for Shunsui's answer.

"Since you're asking for my advice, I'd say think about it for the next ten years. If by then, you're not sure then find something else. You're still pretty young but you have a decent amount of time to figure things out." Offered the experienced Shinigami.

"Next ten years?" Yujiro asked arching an eyebrow.

"Oh right. You've become used to human time. Well I can say this, we'll definitely need you for the war against Aizen."

"Heh. Trust me, I've always wanted a chance to strike back at that overpowered bastard. I'll definitely stick around for that." Yujiro smirked as he imagined himself beating the former Captain of squad five. Taking a drag from his cigar.

"You still have a grudge against old man Yama." Said Shunsui. Drinking more sake.

Yujiro sighed as he took a sip of his own drink. Already knowing where this conversation was going.

"Listen I know the old man can be...difficult to deal with but he cares in his own way."

Yujiro held back a groan. He did not want to have this conversation. He stood up and drank some more sake. "Thanks for the advice...Uncl-Captain." He struggled to correct himself.

"You can still call me Uncle you know." Kyoraku smiled. Not failing to notice that Yujiro was avoiding the topic of Yamamoto.

Yujiro nodded. Sliding the door open. "I'ma head back to the barracks. Have a good night Uncle Shunsui."

"You to Yuji."

Yujiro nodded as he closed the door. Heading back to the barracks.

Upon returning to his room, he plopped down on the bed. Staring up at the ceiling. Taking another puff from his cigar.

Yujiro was grateful for Kyoraku's advice. When Yujiro was a child, either he or Jushiro usually looked after Yujiro when Yamamoto wasn't able to.

"What the hell do I do?..." He questioned himself as he watched the smoke.

"I agree with Captain Kyoraku's words. Just give yourself some time to think. Maybe the war will show you the path you want to follow."

Yujiro hummed in agreement.

Yujiro just didn't know how true Rakurai's words would be.

That's were I'ma end the chapter! I don't know how often I'll update this story but I do want to finish it. Maybe I'll even cover the events of the Thousand Year Blood War but who knows?

If you've read the Drunk Lightning one shot then you already know where this is gonna go. I've made some tweaks to the story here and there to keep things interesting. Have a wonderful day you beautiful people!
