I updated the Drunk Lightning one shot. It's mostly just fixing mistakes and adding a bit more dialogue. I did add an extra scene towards the end. Showing Yujiro rescuing Tia after she gets captured by the Vandenreich. With that being said, I hope y'all enjoy this chapter.
From Slow Days To Conflict
The past couple weeks had been rather eventful. Some members of Aizen's army had invaded Karakura Town. From what Kisuke described, there were two. One of them being a large muscular Arrancar with dark skin. The other was a shorter more slender Arrancar with green eyes and pale skin.
Since then Arrancar had been showing up and causing chaos in the town. A squad of Shinigami had been sent to Karakura Town for assistance. Consisting of Captain Hitsugaya, Lieutenant Matsumoto, Lieutenant Abarai, Yumichika and Ikkaku.
Yujiro was disappointed he wasn't chosen to be a part of it. If he had known the days following these events were this slow he'd have snuck out with the group. Although...staying here meant he had the best possible chance of avoiding Orihime's God awful cooking and Matsumoto's shopping shenanigans.
Yeah he was grateful for dodging those bullets indeed.
Karakura Town was off limits for now.
Although he would like something better to do than sweep the floors of the stupid barracks. Yujiro thanked the heavens that he didn't have to sleep in the barracks. Sharing a room with others wasn't something he was particularly fond of. He had Tessai to thank for that. Being a 4th seat officer definitely had it's perks. In the end, he couldn't complain, he knew his room also needed to be cleaned up as well. The blue haired Shinigami let out a sigh as he realized that he was starting to run out of space for all the sake he'd bought.
"Definitely need to chill out with all the sake I've been buying." Yujiro sighed as he swept the floor.
"Agreed. You almost blew out all of last week's pay on strictly sake. Shunsui and Jushiro's bad habits are slowly starting to rub off on you." Rakurai chided the young reaper.
"Aye! You can see all the sake that's clearly untouched! If I were more like them all that stuff would be gone! I can control my thirst for alcohol better than they ever could!" Yujiro argued back.
"That's because of the strict training you've been through since being with Urahara and Yoruichi. Though if I'm honest I don't know how long that'll last if you keep hanging around those two alcoholics." Rakurai told him. "Do you remember the day you got drunk for the first time?"
Yujiro chuckled. Old memories flashing through his head. "Of course. I thought it was just medicine at first. Yoruichi was really kicking my ass that day. But when I drank the sake she started having trouble predicting my moves."
"Not to mention you were far too young to be drinking at the time." Rakurai told his master. Disapproval coating his tone.
"Well I'm old enough to drink now, so there's no issue." Yujiro shot back at Rakurai. Still sweeping the floor. Rolling his eyes at the fact that Rakurai was still hung up on that.
Both Yujiro and Rakurai continued their chatter with one another as Yujiro continued sweeping the barracks. Soon enough, Yujiro began cleaning his room. Making a mental note to not let Shunsui and Jushiro see all the alcohol he'd kept in his room.
"Not them or Matsumoto." Rakurai added.
"And definitely not Renji or Madarame." Yujiro also added. Reaching out for his gourd and took a sip. "This one is all they need to know about."
"Should we head back to the training area underneath Sokyoku Hill?" Questions Rakurai.
"Sure. I was going to head over there after I'm done here." Yujiro told his zanpakuto spirit as he slung his gourd around his shoulder. Putting on his old and large straw hat and slipping a toothpick between his lips, he left his room.
"Try not to do anything stupid this time." Rakurai pleaded.
"Huh? Whaddya talking about?" Yujiro arched an eyebrow.
"You don't remember? It was a week before Hitsugaya and Matsumoto were dispatched to the world of the living with Abarai, Madarame, and Ayasegawa. You and that neanderthal Madarame had a knife edge death match." Rakurai told his master. Honestly he and Yujiro didn't even know what a knife edge death match was until Madarame explained it to Yujiro.
Yujiro gladly excepted the challenge without thinking. To him it sounded exciting.
"It was pretty fun to me. The pain sucked though."
"It was literally just you two punching each other in the face and your feet getting cut. Nothing "fun" about it. You almost lost your foot you idiot."
"I will admit, having the blade constantly cutting into my heel did not feel good at all. But it was a nice test of endurance and willpower! Totally manly!"
"It was a nice test of your stupidity." Rakurai spat.
"Maybe if you actually had a knife edge death match with someone you'd appreciate it." Yujiro taunted his zanpakuto spirit.
"Whatever." Rakurai's tone suggested that he was done with this conversation.
"Is someone jealous?" Yujiro teased Rakurai. The zanpakuto spirit had no reply to offer. Yuji grinned at his victory.
Yujiro finished sweeping the floor and gazed out the window. Looking at the blue sky.
"It's a pretty slow day. I think it's time to get some training in." Yujiro suggested. Feeling bored with his division duties.
Rakurai have a hum of approval. "Almost anything would be better than watching you sweeping the dumb floors."
"Let's go!" Yujiro eagerly sped towards Sokyoku Hill.
Flash stepping his way to the training area, Yujiro made it there in no time. His eyes scanned the area for anyone who might be there. He hadn't sensed anybody and it currently didn't look like anyone was here. Yujiro grasped the handles of Rakurai. Drawing the swords out.
It was then that Rakurai manifested before him. The zanpakuto spirit wore black, blue and golden Samurai armor. The spirit had a red mask covering the lower half of his face. His hair was long and split into two different colors.Tje left side was white while the right was black. His hair was kept in a high ponytail. On the chest plate was a symbol of a bright blue lightning bolt.
"Oh? You wanna spar?" Yujiro pointed a blade towards his zanpakuto spirit. Challenging his partner with an almost evil smile.
Rakurai shook his head declining the offer. Blinking his black eyes. "I'm just here because being in our inner world all the time gets boring. It's rather nice to be out."
Yujiro simply nodded in response.
"You've only had my Bankai for five years. In that time you've made great strides towards mastering it. When you do master it, you'll be a force to be reckoned with. The things you'll be able to do with lightning will be incredible. I believe you'll become the strongest lightning user Soul Society has ever seen. It'll be quite a while before another lightning user surpasses you. Assuming you're still a Shinigami by then." Rakurai told his master.
Yujiro closed his eyes and smirked. A smirk filled with suave arrogance. Letting his imagination run wild with the implications. "Dancing Lightning God indeed. Bankai..."
A flash of lightning flew up. Lightning wrapped around Yujiro's legs. For hours and hours Yujiro trained his Bankai. Shadow boxing, sprinting for as long as possible, charging himself with lightning. Whatever he could currently do with lightning, he attempted to improve it. Of course he couldn't make sudden improvements in a single day. At the very least it would keep him sharp.
A couple more hours passed and Yujiro leaned himself against one of the boulders inside the chamber. Panting heavily. Sliding down to sit. He looked up and let out a deep breath. "Sheesh...that...was one hell of a workout..."
The Soul Reaper reached into his pocket and took out the usual lighter and cigar. Beginning to smoke. Choosing to rest for a couple minutes.
Yujiro soon left Sokyoku Hill, noticing that the sun was setting. The swordsman opted to walk around the Rukon district. Taking puffs from his cigar as he casually strolled through the district. Keeping an eye out for any Hollows that might have snuck inside. The sky continued to get darker As he walked ahead. As he walked he felt someone slip their hands into one of his pockets and heard their feet scurrying away. He could only grin. "Nice try."
Using his senses, he tracked the pickpocket and flash stepped towards whoever it was.
"It's not very nice to steal from people y'know that kid?" Yujiro scolded the child as he appeared in front of the little boy.
The kid was clearly poor. His clothes were ragged and his black hair was messy. The poor kid looked scared upon seeing he had been caught. He took a step back in fear as he found the Soul Reaper to be slightly intimidating.
"Oi, relax. I ain't gonna hurt you y'know." Yujiro told the kid. Causing him to calm down a bit.
"I am a little pissed you just decided to steal from me like that though. You could've just asked me for some money if you needed it." Yujiro gave a friendly smile as he removed the cigar from his lips. Huffing out smoke.
The child looked down, feeling bad. Before he could respond to anything Yujiro had said, his stomach growled. Yujiro reached into his pocket and flipped a coin towards the kid. "Catch."
"There's a restaurant and a inn close by. With all the money you have now it'll be enough for you to spend a night and buy a meal." The young Yamamoto informed the child. Using his head to gesture towards the destination. Putting the cigar back between his lips.
The child smiled and nodded. "Thanks..." He turned around and began walking away.
Yujiro watched the child walk. Wondering if he should escort the kid. Truthfully he didn't exactly enjoy the company of kids all that much. He lost a bet with Yoruichi once and had to try babysitting once while in the world of the living and it didn't work out too well. Jinta was a bit of a brat to. He'd come to the conclusion that his luck with kids was just pure shit. Even so, he would feel bad if something happened to the poor boy.
"Hey!" Yujiro called to the child. Causing him to pause and turn around.
"Would you like me to take you there? It's pretty late out. Not exactly safe for kids at this time."
"Uhh yeah. Thanks mister...uhh..."
"Inazuma. Call me Inazuma." Yujiro said to the child as he began taking steps forward.
The two began walking, the kid making an effort to stay close to the Shinigami as he felt much more safe now. "So... you're a Shinigami?" Asks the boy. Eyeing the shihakusho.
"Yes I am." Yujiro nods. "Why? Are you interested in being a Shinigami as well kid?"
The boy gave a bright smile. "Yeah! You guys are all so cool! Is it fun Mr Inazuma?"
Oh jeez. Yujiro didn't know how to answer this. If he encouraged the kid, would he be sending him to just to die? He would feel incredibly guilty if so. He also didn't want to crush the kid's dream.
"Yeah...I guess it is fun." Came the reply eventually.
The hairs on the back of Yujiro's neck stood up as he senses danger before the child could reply back to him. "Walk ahead of me."
Ignorant to the incoming danger, the kid nodded. With his right hand he reached for the handle of Rakurai. Using his thumb to slowly push the blade out the scabbard. Yujiro focused and at the right time he flicked the long katana out. Sending the sword flying to the right. The hilt crashing into the face of a medium sized Hollow. Cracking the mask. Quickly, Yujiro flash stepped and grabbed the handle of Rakurai, he swung the blade upwards. Splitting the Hollow's head in half, from the chin all the way up to the top of the head. Purifying the spirit. Yujiro whipped his head around to face the child he'd been escorting. Issuing a warning. "Run kid! Get to safety!"
The child nodded and began running away. Yujiro could see another Hollow in the air. Descending down to devour the kid. Sensing another Hollow charging for him from behind, Yujiro flash stepped towards the kid. Managing to avoid his arm from being bitten off. Yuji appears behind the child and thrusted his zanpakuto upwards. Impaling the Hollow's mask between the eyes.
Yujiro looked to the left to see two more Hollows running towards him. With his left hand he drew his other katana. Flipping both of them backwards. Both Hollows coming to a stop.
"Your soul...Oh yes! Your soul must be very tasty! After we eat your soul, we will devour the child's!" Laughed one of the Hollow's.
Yujiro said nothing as he stared at the Hollows. Sensing their reiatsu, he notes that these two were Adjuchas. Judging by their spiritual pressure, they must've became Adjuchas rather recently.
Yujiro offered a smirk of suave confidence. Beginning to chuckle at the two Hollows before him.
"Is there something funny Shinigami?" One of the Adjuchas asked angrily.
"Yeah. You both believe you can get past me. That's pretty hilarious in my opinion." Quipped the smartmouthed Soul Reaper.
"Why you..." Growled the two Adjuchas.
Foolishly, they both lunged at the dual wielding Shinigami. Giving into their hatred. Yujiro spun in a circle once they got too close. Becoming a whirlwind of blades. Slicing the two Hollows to pieces. Their remains dissolving into spirit particles.
Yujiro closed his eyes and cracked his neck. Rolling his shoulders seconds after. Sheathing his katanas after flicking the black blood from the blades. He turned around to see the kid peeking out from a corner. Using a small house as cover.
Yujiro made his way over to the child. Shaking his head in disapproval. "You should've ran to safety kid. If those two were any stronger, you would've been caught up in the fight."
"That was so cool Mr Inazuma! You were all like, FWOOSH! SHINK!" He seemingly ignored Yujiro's words. Swinging his arms in a failed attempt to mimick Yujiro's movements. Yujiro couldn't bring himself to scold the child anymore. Not wanting to ruin his mood.
Yuji chuckled lightly. "C'mon kid. Let's get you a meal and someplace to stay for the night." Taking a drag from his cigar which had thankfully survived the battle.
The rest of the trip was rather peaceful. Yujiro had taken the boy to a restaurant and soon after escorted the kid to the nearby inn. Exiting the inn after saying goodbye to the child, Yujiro yawned.
"Time to go back and sleep." Wiping tears from his eyes.
Yujiro flash stepped back to his room. Falling face first on his bed. He closed his eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.
Someone was shaking him. Calling out his name.
"Yujiro. Yujiro get up." He heard the person say. "It's important."
Wait.
Whoever this was sounded familiar. He opened his eyes to see...
"...Uncle...Shunsui?" Yujiro groaned. Feeling groggy.
"You overslept. You might wanna get up before old man Yama gets on your case about it. It's pretty important." The older Reaper said.
"...What I miss?" Yujiro asked the more experienced Shinigami. Struggling to keep his eyes open.
"To sum it up quickly, Orihime Inoue has gone to Hueco Mundo and Ichigo Kurosaki along with some of his friends went to rescue her." Kyoraku informed the young Yamamoto.
That seemed to wake Yujiro up. His eyes widening.
"Wait what?!" Yujiro shouted in disbelief.
Kyoraku scratched his chin as he explained the situation. Apparently Orihime was a traitor now. According to old man Yama.
Yujiro groaned and dragged a hand down his face in response. "Of course that's his answer to this."
"That's not all." Kyoraku told Yujiro.
Yujiro looked at the Captain. Expecting him to continue. "To make a long story short, we're getting ready to head to Karakura Town to intercept Aizen. Some Captains are already in Hueco Mundo assisting Ichigo right now as we speak."
"So it's finally time..." Yujiro grinned darkly.
Shunsui nodded his head. "Get ready. Wash up as quickly as possible. We're getting ready to go in a few."
"Yes sir!" Yujiro jumped off the bed and began preparing for what was to come.
After a few minutes Yujiro stormed out his room. He had everything he needed.
Zanpakuto? Check.
Cigars? Check.
Lighter? Check.
And most importantly, sake? Check!
Finally! Today was the day he had been waiting for. After today, either they would emerge victorious or Aizen would win. It was victory or death. He raced towards Sokyoku Hill. Sensing a large amount of captains and lieutenants present there. Every second that passed seemed to make this more real.
Yujiro's grin widened as he got closer to Sokyoku Hill. Once he made it there he could see all the Shinigami that were about to go. Uncle Jushiro and Uncle Shunsui. Captains Hitsugaya, Soi-Fon and Komamura. Lieutenants, Hisagi, Matsumoto, Sasakibe and Omaeda. Last but not least, Head Captain Yamamoto himself. Almost everyone was here.
A few Shinigami would be staying behind to defend Soul Society in case Aizen had sent any Arrancar to attack the Seireitei.
Yujiro and the old man made eye contact as he stood behind Captain Hitsugaya. The Captain Commander nodded and began speaking. "Everyone is present. We will go to Karakura Town and cut Aizen off. We suspect Aizen will bring Espada to accompany him. After today there will be one victor. I hope you all are ready to give your lives for this cause."
The Senkaimon began opening up. "Now, let us go to Karakura Town and stop this traitor." Old man Yama slammed his cane into the ground to emphasize his words.
All Shinigami present gave a collective "yes sir" and nodded. The Captain of squad one turned and began walking through the Senkaimon. Leading the charge. Everyone followed behind.
The group of Shinigami traveled through the Senkaimon. Finally making it to Karakura. Yujiro looked around noticing the town was empty.
"Where's all the humans?" Yujiro wonders.
"This is a fake Karakura Town. The real thing was replaced by this replica." Toshiro informs him.
"A fake city huh? How long did it take for them to complete it?" Yujiro wonders to himself.
"So we can go as crazy as we want huh?" Yujiro gives a evil smile. Standing on a power line. Lighting a cigar and began smoking it.
Histugaya's eyes driftted over to the Captain Commander. "Not exactly. But some of us can."
Gargantas began opening up. Revealing Arrancar walking through. Of course Yujiro's eyes locked in on Aizen was he made his appearance. His smirk widens and his gaze intensifies as he reaches for Rakurai.
"There you are. You slimy son of a bitch..." Yujiro can do nothing but glare hatefully at Aizen. His anger begins to rise. The former squad five Captain stood with his subordinates beside him. A charismatic smile plastered on his face. Yujiro blocked out whatever was currently being said. "You started all of this... Kisuke, Tessai and Yoruichi's exile. Along with Shinji and Hiyori's. Mine to..."
If Yujiro gritted his teeth any harder, they would've begun to crack. His grip on the handles of Rakurai tightening. The look in Yujiro's eyes intensified. Hatred burning in his violet orbs. All that was running through his head was gutting Aizen like a fish.
The fact that Aizen had faked all the relationships he had made within the Seireitei pissed him off. To make matters worse, the two faced bastard didn't care either. No shred of guilt could be found.
If there was one thing Yujiro could thank Aizen for, it was getting rid of those useless bastards known as Central 46. Although they've already been replaced. This new Central 46 was most likely just as bad as the old one. Only time would tell.
Yujiro's violet bangs fell over his eyes. His arms began trembling with fury. All the events that lead up to now flashing through his mind. The more he thought about everything, the angrier he became. His explosion was inevitable.
"Yujiro! Don't-"
Yujiro drew out his right blade and was about to rush in to slit the traitor's throat. He was just about to flash step when he was cut off by the Captain Commander swinging Ryujin Jakka. A wave of flames shooting towards Aizen and his group. The flames surrounding them. Leaving them seemingly unable to escape.
Yujiro side eyed the old man. Taking a deep breath. Calming himself down. Balling up his left fist. Fingernails digging into his skin.
"You fool! You were about to rush in and get yourself killed! What were you thinking?!" The zanpakuto spirit berated his wielder.
Yuji didn't acknowledge Rakurai's words. Though he knew he was right. "As much as I'd like to think that Aizen is being cooked alive, that won't be enough to kill him..." Yujiro watched the flames. Waiting for something to happen.
Rakurai manifested next to Yujiro. Placing a hand on his shoulder. "Indeed. They will escape somehow. Try and find a different opponent. You can't beat Aizen, but I'm sure you can beat one of his Espada. You can still play a part in his defeat."
The blue haired Shinigami nodded in response."Right."
Gargantas began opening up. Hollows coming through and started attacking some giant pillars. Off in the distance he could sense Madarame and Ayasegawa's reiatsu.
In the midst of his thoughts Yujiro, Hitsugaya and Matsumoto found themselves surrounded by female Arrancar. The strongest looking one had blonde hair with three braided locks, dark skin and a high collar jacket covering the bottom half of her face. Intimidating yet charming. Yujiro sensed her reiatsu. She was definitely the strongest one of the group. A small unnoticeable grin plastered on his face. Feeling as if he found a suitable opponent.
"Aye, Captain Hitsugaya, I'll handle her. I understand that I'm a lower rank than you, but I got this." Yujiro began drawing his other zanpakuto out. Confidence rolling off him.
Toshiro glanced at him. "Are you sure? I have no doubts that she's strong. She could be a problem."
"I spent all those years training for a reason. I'll be fine. No need to worry about me Captain." Yujiro stood with his blades drawn. Violet eyes never leaving the Espada.
"Alright. I'll place my trust in you." The shorter Shinigami agreed.
Toshiro, Rangiku and the three weaker Arrancar all disappeared. Taking their battle elsewhere. The blonde Espada stood with her arms crossed.
"Was it a wise decision to turn down a Captain's assistance?" Inquires the Espada calmy.
Yujiro tilts his head. "Is it a wise decision to fight me with no backup?"
Just the thought of taking down one of Aizen's elite had started to quell the anger inside.
She narrows her eyes. Sensing his spiritual pressure. He was stronger than that smaller Captain. He clearly possessed Captain level strength yet hadn't achieved the rank. "Interesting."
It was then she could sense something dark in his reiatsu. She didn't allow herself to think about what it was. It was not the time to think about such things. Whatever it could be, she wasn't the least bit scared. It probably would reveal itself soon.
Yujiro flipped his swords backwards. "Before we begin this dance, may I have your name?" Suave confidence radiating from him.
"Tia Halibel." She states as she reaches for the large zanpakuto on her back. Drawing it out from the sheath on her back. Whirling it around in her hand.
Halibel's zanpakuto was quite weird. It wasn't exactly a long blade. But it was wide. The middle of the zanpakuto was hollow.
Yujiro whistled in appreciation of her handling of the zanpakuto. "Well, ain't you stylish?" He eagerly rushes forward and the two clash. Sparks flying from their blades. He offers the Espada a gentle smile. "I'm Yujiro Inazuma. It's my pleasure to defeat you."
I gotta admit, I didn't exactly plan on starting the battle this chapter. That was reserved for the next chapter. Ah well fuck it. See you all whenever next chapter drops!
