Honestly, most of this chapter came after the revision was complete. It can be seen as setting up for coming events, but mostly tying in from the last chapter and having some laughs as I wrote this. Hope you readers enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 18: Calm Times

-Miya's pov-

Once MBI's forces had fled, or those that were left of them had, I took the time to take in what had resulted from all of MBI's efforts. Those that had defended their homes were mostly okay, there were a number that had been killed by MBI personnel. I had also been separated from Ashe and had lost sight of him during the fighting, but I wouldn't doubt he is okay. We would meet back at the house, but my heart was still pining to know where my husband was and what his condition is. Even knowing that hurting or harming him is different than it would be for most, that doesn't mean I don't worry about him.

Ashe does not like hurting or harming others, it is not in his nature to do such things without very good reason. But in this instance, he had been helping to defend others and that for Ashe is a justifiable reason to harm or kill others. Even when it is necessary, Ashe doesn't like taking another's life and I don't fault him for being like that. His adverseness to harm and kill is one of the major differences between him and those like Minaka. It is one of my husband's good and better qualities in my view.

I did what I could to help those that had defended their homes as I made my way toward Izumo Inn. I would find Ashe there at some point tonight, he would be out and about for part of the night and I knew that it didn't stop me from worrying about him. Yume and Yashima did join me along the way back to the house and it was good to see that they were both alright. The family that Ashe and I had gained recently may have not been asked for, but things had seemed to work out thus far. One of the very select few points I would like changed is Kai living with us, were he to then things would be close to perfect.

It took time for the three of us come into sight of Izumo Inn, but it brought feelings of slight relief as it meant the events of the night were coming to a close. Overall, the events had ended okay, Karasuba had been bested, but lives had been lost as well. It would be nice to have a time of peace and not have to deal with issues created by MBI. I know it wouldn't last all that long with Minaka's Sekirei Plan, but a rest bit would be appreciated.

Nonetheless, when the three of us entered the house there were unfamiliar voices that we heard. The next thing we saw, two boys exited the dining room and entered the kitchen carrying dishes. The older one who looked to be nine followed the younger one that appeared to be four or five. They looked rather similar to one another, both had short grey hair and floppy dog ears on the side of their heads which did blend into the hair a good amount. They had rounded facial features from the glimpse I got of them before they disappeared into the kitchen. What would children that I've never met or seen be here around Izumo Inn I couldn't say, but I believe that Ashe would have something to do with it. I know Ashe has a fondness for children and helps those he is able, yet what is going on?

Yume tapped my shoulder, "Uh Miya, do you know why there would be children here," she asked.

I shook my head, "No," I answered just as curious and as baffled Yume and Yashima, "I have no idea what is going on."

We approached the dining room, but before we entered it, a girl zoomed out and into the kitchen. The girl looked about the same age as Kuu herself is and had what looked like feathers attached to her arms that formed wings she was using to fly. She had straight raven black hair that went down to the top of her neck which framed her face. Her body frame appeared compact which probably came from her flying were I to guess.

As Yume, Yashima and I came into the dining room, a second girl moved past us. She had cat ears saying that she was a nekomata and looked to be about the same age as the older boy from moments ago. Her medium length auburn-colored hair matched the color of her feline ears and tail that was waving slightly behind her. She had green eyes and a pretty face from the brief view I got before she also followed the other three into the kitchen. Ashe was still in the dining room looking to be cleaning up the remains of a meal, "Ashe, what is going on," I inquired.

Ashe turned and faced the three of us, I didn't doubt that he had the four children here and there was a reason for that. I may not know what that reason is, and I personally have no issue with children being around here myself, but this is completely out of nowhere. "Ah Miya, Yume, and Yashima, wonderful to see you home," Ashe replied.

I wasn't going to let Ashe off with just that, "Ashe," I stated clearly, "What is going on here? Why are there four children none of us have ever met in the house?"

Ashe gave a soft smile, "Well, let us go to the living room and I can explain how circumstances came to be what they are," he said.

I nodded and Yume, Yashima and I headed for the living room and took seats while Ashe went to the kitchen. A minute later, Ashe came in and was guiding the four children into the room with him. And with a second longer look at them, I had to admit that they were all rather cute in their own ways. Ashe got three of them on one of the sofas and the girl with wings landed on a side table and squatted down all four looking at we Sekirei. After the children were arranged, Ashe took a seat himself and faced us, "Thank you for your patience," he started then gestured at the children, "these four will be staying here for a time."

"What do you mean Ashe," questioned Yume.

Ashe frowned a bit, "Unfortunately, due to the events that happened tonight, these four have nowhere to go." Ashe then began iterating that all four of these children were in a rather harsh situation due to the actions of MBI. For the boys, their mother was one of those that had been killed in the defense against MBI. And it was much the same for the raven-haired girl as well though it was her aunt. For the nekomata, those she had been staying with couldn't support her though they wanted to help her. And so after hearing the situation, bless Ashe's heart he wanted to help these children and I don't fault him for doing this.

It is just that Izumo in is close to full without these four, with them it would be full among other potential problems. With these children at the impressionable ages they were, the other tenants we have could provide bad and unhealthy examples for them. Matsu alone could teach them horrible things they shouldn't know and she might try if it could help her get away with things. Kazehana would be flippant and may even use the boys, I couldn't say with her as much as I used to. Could we handle giving these four a home for likely years and provide an environment that would give them a good opportunity? I want to say yes, as much as to support Ashe's wish to help them as to do the same myself, but there are so many factors to think about.

"Now that you know of their circumstances, you can see why I could not look the other way and just do nothing," Ashe said.

My husband is putting us in a position that is not nice and I know it isn't intentional, even if it can seem like it. So I sighed, "I understand that Ashe, and I want to help them too, but with the others who live here," replied yet trailed off.

"I know to the issues you refer Miya, and I believe there will need to be some things done to curtail them. But I still believe that we can manage as needed," he assured.

The impressions I got from Ashe said he agreed with my concerns about Matsu as we both knew she was trouble if not frequently supervised. And honestly, Ashe was very close to kicking out Matsu with her habits and actions which he hasn't missed even if Matsu thinks she's been much more covert about them. Ashe was going to treat this as Matsu's last chance, should she cross lines that were defined to her, she would be tossed out. And I knew with how Ashe was in this, I could not dissuade him, "Okay Ashe," I admitted, "we will make things work."

Ashe clapped his hands together, "Excellent, I was sure this would be acceptable," he announced. It was more that Ashe didn't give us much in the option of refusing him without the children being thrown out. The skills and means that my husband uses to convince others are not always fair, but he doesn't see it that way. How we could make these circumstances work, I have not the faintest idea, but that isn't the point any longer. "Moving on then to introductions," Ashe said pointing at us, "This is Yume, Yashima," Ashe gestured at each in turn and then ended out on me, "and Miya who is my wife."

Ashe then pointed to each child as he introduced them, "His name is Skye," he said pointing to the older boy, then shifted to the younger one, "and his brother Tatsumi." Ashe moved onto the nekomata, "Her name is Nalia and this is Yuriko," Ashe continued pointing to the girl on the side table. "Let us all get along going forward," Ashe summed up.

I understand Ashe is doing what he is to help these poor children and it is in his nature and is well with him. However, it complicates things, especially if Minaka sends others here to Izumo Inn as it puts them in danger then too. Granted, we had beaten Minaka's "vicious attack dog" that he uses to instill fear in others, but that wouldn't deter the mad man from what he does. Ashe knew there would need to be changes and expectations set for certain individuals soon, for what good that may or may not do. It is more the timing of this all that makes it so unsettling and difficult for us going forward.

Ashe, Yume, Yashima and I did manage to get the children to the two free rooms, the girls in the one upstairs and the boys in the one on the first floor. It wasn't long after we had done so, that the other tenants returned to the house. Minato had been injured with cuts in his back, he tried to wave them off as nothing to worry about. Tsukiumi was blaming herself for what happened to Minato as Kuu came over and told Ashe and me what she and Akitsu had seen and done.

Apparently, the other two current members of the discipline squad had been chasing after Minato and the other pair trying to escape. One of them was responsible for Minato's injuries even when by Minaka's on rules they should being avoiding such things. Of course, it certainly wouldn't be the first time that Minaka has said one thing and then disregards it later on for whatever excuse he will say. And I could tell Ashe wasn't pleased with what had happened to Minato though he didn't blame the young man. Ashe holds Minaka responsible for the results that came from the events that occurred tonight.

I was irritated at hearing Kazehana hadn't stepped in when she should have, likely more intent on drinking than what was going on. Her carelessness could have ended out getting her ashikabi killed and she waved it off be it nervously so. Matsu wasn't all that much better, she had just warned Minato, and rather late with her timing, but she still hadn't done more than that. However, I expected the horrid lack of concern from Matsu as she was always a trouble maker and hadn't changed her habits nor personality. But I would have thought Kazehana would have done more for her ashikabi then let him fend for himself in a time of need.

Ashe did use magic to speed along Minato's injuries healing which weren't life-threatening, but should be tended to before the tenants were sent to bed as it was late. After making sure everyone was in their proper rooms, Ashe and I also retired to ours but we talked before going to sleep. There were changes that would happen going forward and it was best to be on the same page about them. The children's safety and well-being was to be seen to and there were some tenants that would be a hindrance rather than a help.

-Ashe's pov-

The next morning started at around the same time for Miya and I as it would normally, the difference was both Skye and Tatsumi were up shortly after us. According to Tatsumi, both he and his older brother would get up around the time they did to help their mother every day. It had become routine for them since their father had passed away in an accident a few years ago. Miya and I didn't deny them helping us as they clearly wanted to do what was familiar to themselves. The more that was familiar and comfortable to them, the better for the children going forward. No, I knew that Miya and I wouldn't replace the family they had lost, but we could provide them a new one to make good new memories that could fill the void created by what had been stolen from them.

The boys did have basic knowledge of what went on in the kitchen which said they had assisted their mother often enough to pick up things. Although I'll admit, the sight of Tatsumi hugging Miya's midsection as I wouldn't doubt he would his mother tugged at my heart. It was clear to me that both had been taught a wonderful work ethic by their parents and that will serve them well. Even Miya looked to accept the gesture and even patted Tatsumi's head and assigned him simple tasks.

The children were the first of the house's inhabitance to appear at the table for breakfast and were followed by the other tenants. Of course, there were questions from the house's current tenants about the four children as it was the first time they had seen them. Minato was the one to put it the best or at least, the nicest, "Um, Ashe, who are these kids and why are they here," he asked.

I took a moment to think about how to answer, in which moment I noticed that Kuu and Yuriko started a staring match with each other. The sight was quite cute and there was no bad feeling from either side, it was more inspecting the other. The two boys were next to each other and sitting next to Miya, simply looking at the tenants of the house. Nalia was by me doing much the same as Skye and Tatsumi were, but I really couldn't blame them. The children didn't know that I ran a boarding house, nor that I had tenants other than Yume and Yashima. So, seeing the other adults that lived here is no doubt creating questions in their minds.

I faced Minato and exhaled, "Well, due to recent events, these four lost the places they called home. When I was told about that, I volunteered to take them in and look after them," I stated.

As I finished, the staring match between Kuu and Yuriko ended with both laughing before they took their places at the table. Breakfast did start and nothing else was said about the children being here at that time. There will be a further conversation with some about things that could involve the children, specifically with Matsu and Kazehana. Miya and I will see to that point today I assure you. So when breakfast finished, Yume and Yashima kept an eye on the four new residences of the house. While did that, Miya started tracking down Kazehana to talk to her, while I headed straight for Matsu's room. It was likely where she ran off to when she disappeared from the dining room and it was still her normal hiding spot.

And with the crap that the redhead has been pulling recently, I'm not feeling inclined to use polite manners with her. Matsu hadn't changed her habits much since the serious warning I gave her, she just tried to be more "covert" about her practices. But as I have found, there are just signs you look for to tell you when a pervert tells you they change, you can see they haven't. Matsu made it clear to me that she wasn't inclined to change and I really should have chucked her out when she broke the rules before and be rid of her and the problems she brings going forward. However, for her benefit and the chance she has, I will make it perfectly clear what she was not to do and if she doesn't listen, then out to the street she goes without debate.

So, I didn't knock or rap on the door, I didn't even use the door at all, I simply used magic to teleport into the room without a sound. What I found was Matsu staring at her screens which I saw had views of different rooms in the house. If this wasn't proof that she was not keeping her word, I don't think I could ask for better evidence of the idea. Matsu was so engrossed in her "peep show" that she didn't notice I had appeared in the room and hadn't turned around to face me. I glanced behind me and saw there were locks on the spinning door though they wouldn't delay me in any situation.

As my gaze returned to the troublemaker, I folded my arms and my face became deadpanned, "You look to be enjoying yourself Matsu," I stated and she flinched. "Doing that which you said you wouldn't if you wish to remain in this house. Yet, I would recommend you pay attention to me as we need to have a conversation."

Matsu turned around slowly and she looked somewhat scared when her gaze locked onto mine, "Mr. Landlord, how long have you been there," she asked shakily. "I didn't hear any knocking or the door move at all."

My expression didn't change, "Does that have anything to do with locks being on the door now? If you are doing as you should, there is no need of such devices now is there," I posed. "Such are of no consequence with me Matsu, and honestly, with what you have done and have been doing, you are not in a position to be try and wave off your actions or what results from them."

Matsu put her hands up, "This isn't what you think," she began.

I wasn't in the mood to hear her lies to get out of things, so I cut over the freeloading pervert, "You are using those cameras of yours which shouldn't be popping up to view private areas as you were told not to." I took a breath, "Don't attempt to pass off your bad habits as something they are not, you have enough issues without adding to them." Matsu was trembling as I continued, "However, our conversation is for a different subject than your poorly hidden and sickening habits you insist on heeding."

"I'm sorry Mr. Landlord, but nothing comes to mind that needs to be discussed," she replied quickly.

I gazed at her for a moment, then snapped my fingers and her machines shut off as the power they required was taken by me. At the same time, small balls of fire appeared in the corners of the room illuminate it. Matsu's squeak of surprise quickly became whispers of fear as she looked at me, "Your assumption of having the choice to refuse participation in this conversation is false for I will not be giving you that luxury," I stated flatly. "Those machines of yours will not tempt or distract you during this conversation, I've made sure of that." I pointed a finger to the middle of the room, "So then, sit and let us begin."

In the scared state that Matsu was in, she did as I told her to and I began with what needed to be in my view said. "Deny it as you will Matsu, but truthfully, I should kick you out for what you do even if you think that Miya or I don't know about your actions you do. You should have been kicked to the street when you blatantly broke the rules and if not for Minato, I assure you I would have chucked you out without hesitation. And yet, since that reprieve, you have made no change other than the way you practice your habits, effectively showing Minato's efforts are for not."

Matsu was about to reply, but my glare stopped her, "That being said, listen and listen well Matsu," I stated coldly. "You are to be on the best behavior you have ever been around the kids that will be living here. Should you not, the consequence will fall and there will be nothing you can do about them coming down on you."

"Why would you even bring this up Mr. Landlord," questioned Matsu with fear.

I exhaled, "Because you have shown that you can't be trusted to be good without motivation to be so. That in mind, I'm giving you the motivation to behave or else I will evict you and it will be permanent." I straightened up before I continued, "You even for a moment think that teaching any of your bad habits would be of interest, I will make sure you regret it."

My eyes became gold in one blink, "I care not for how you choose to be even if your freeloading and lechery disgust me. But poisoning innocent minds with what bad practices you choose to do is not acceptable in any way. Should you do so," I began, "then not only will I kick you out, but also I'll seriously test whether your connection to Minato is genuine by attempting to eliminate it."

Matsu's eyes widened and showed terror at my last sentence, "Y-you can't," she stuttered.

"Then I would recommend not giving me a reason to try," I replied coldly. "Minato deserves better than a troublemaking freeloader like you, take it as a reason to shape up. This will be the last chance you get to prove that you can follow rules when it counts Matsu, for your sake do try not to blow it by falling back into your habits."

Matsu pressed her head to the floor, "I will don't separate me from my ashikabi," she insisted.

It would seem, that I found a potential motivation that could help Matsu improve which is Minato himself. She does care about him, even if she shows it different and so the thought of being separated was horrible to her. I couldn't say if I could actually do the task at this moment as I don't know for sure if Minato has a bond with Matsu or a contract. If it is a contract, I can shatter it and it will cease to have any hold, yet if it is a bond, then I would rather not go through the effort of breaking that down.

I shrugged, "Then make sure you keep that in mind Matsu," I said then an idea came to me. "And since you sound more sincere than I have heard you before now, allow me to lend you a helping hand." I snapped my fingers and Matsu covered her face, but nothing looked to have happened. Matsu lowered her arms after a moment and looked around, "Consider what I have done a gift to help and encourage you to improve."

I turned on the spot and teleported out of Matsu's room letting the electricity flow again to her machines. I took a few steps before I heard a cry from Matsu which was a mix between a whine and a complaint. That told me that the freeloader figured out that my gift was to disable all her cameras by making them get too much power at once. Do that tends to damage or destroy humans' electronic devices. That was "my way" of helping the pervert, eliminating her means of spying and falling into their temptation.

-Miya's pov-

After breakfast, Ashe and I figured it would be best to talk to the two we saw as the most likely to teach bad things to the children. Yume, Yashima, and Kuu watched over the children and as it was the weekend Minato did help them. And with that settled, Ashe said he would talk with Matsu which left delivering expectations to Kazehana to me.

I could tell from what I felt from Ashe, the conversation he would have with Matsu wouldn't be a nice one at all. No, she was about to experience how unyielding my husband can be and in some of his less nice ways of getting others to do what they should. I had wondered if Matsu would get to the point that Ashe would give her what is akin to an ultimatum. And so, it seems that the time of that idea was at hand. Ashe would get the point he wanted across to Matsu, he just might scare her to a degree she'd never known before too. I wish it wasn't necessary, but Matsu had pushed to this point and so, there was nothing I could do to help her.

Ashe had given her a second chance, which had surprised me, and I believe Minato is the reason she is still here. Nonetheless, Matsu hadn't changed much other than how she did the horrid things she does. That hadn't gone unnoticed by Ashe even if Matsu thought she was being more covert, he had known. There had just been more pressing matters for him so the trouble Matsu was causing was being temporarily ignored. He had been warring with himself about giving her a second chance and not throwing her out not too long after that incident. My husband would give her one last chance and there would need to be signs of real change to keep Ashe from chucking her out of the house.

Anyway, I found Kazehana in the living room watching the children playing outside and focusing on the boys more than the girls. I said nothing, merely grabbed Kazehana and dragged her behind me and headed toward my room. Kazehana complained of course as I dragged her behind me, but I paid no heed to her whining.

Once in my room, I let go of Kazehana and slid the door closed behind us before I faced the woman again. "What is this about Miya," she asked me, "I haven't done anything to deserve this."

I sighed, "There is a need to have a talk with you Kazehana," I stated. "You are not the only one receiving this treatment, Matsu is too. And if I'm blunt, you are getting off an amount easier than Matsu is with the talking to she's getting from Ashe."

Kazehana swallowed, "Y-you don't say Miya," she replied nervously.

I gazed at Kazehana, "I'll get straight to the point," I said with little emotion. "This discussion or rather lecture to you is about the children that will be living here." I took a breath, "You are to keep your hand off them and not do other things to them."

My tone had become darker as I had stated what Kazehana would do. It was something that I hadn't forgotten with her, she had a thing for men or really boys. Kazehana had shown that on Kamikura Island but flirting with the male scientist, especially the younger ones. She claimed that it was "just snuggling" and "getting to know others" or those our her excuses. Takehito had mentioned that there were a few that it had gone beyond that. There had been one that Kazehana had to be sedated to get her to stop her advances.

So, there was a good reason for this talk with Kazehana as she could end out molesting the two boys if bounds aren't set. Those boys had suffered more than enough, and shouldn't suffer more. Definitely not be deceived by a woman that saw nothing wrong of taking advantage of their innocence. And it wasn't just them I saw the need to protect in this, Kai is another I fear Kazehana could take advantage of. I wouldn't let her, but I can't always be around all the time to stop her, so she needed to know that her flirting wouldn't be acceptable.

As I got into establishing the boundaries for Kazehana, in the back of my mind I felt that Ashe was doing much the same for Matsu. I would more assume that Matsu was cowering as my husband reprimanded her and gave her no opportunity to counter him. I ended out finishing with telling Kazehana my thoughts of what she does, "Your flirting is still horrible Kazehana and you are to keep it in check while around the house. You feel the need to express your interest, take it off the property or else find other accommodations."

Kazehana's face faulted, "Miya you know I can't help expression myself as I do," she began.

Nevertheless, I cut over her, "Then it's time you learned self-control or else start packing to find another place to live," I snapped back.

Kazehana back away from me a bit, "I'll try Miya," she squeaked, "I promise!"

"Be sure that you do Kazehana," I returned.

I let Kazehana go after that and she ran away from me which I expected her to as I had been reprimanding her. It was around fifteen minutes later that Ashe appeared again and from what I got from him, he had scared Matsu an amount. However, Ashe believed that he had gotten his point across to Matsu so he saw the method that he used to be viable. Plus, he had destroyed all of Matsu's cameras around the house which he was somewhat satisfied with for the moment. We did go over to where the children were and help the others look after them as well as play with them.

Still, as he and I interacted with the children we would be raising going forward, I once again got a rare glimpse of a facet of my husband. Ashe had mentioned before he had a fondness for children and it was true that he liked them in general. However, there was more to it than just Ashe being fond of them which those around Ashe don't see unless they really get to know him which so few do. He found solace in being around children and that was a rare feeling for Ashe to have come to him.

From what Ashe has said and what I had learned from Takehito, Ashe had been through things that few have to experience. It comes partly from his "immortality" and other things which are harder to put into words. The events had not just worn Ashe, there had been more of an effect than that, and that doesn't include the events that had hurt him more personally. Ashe just so rarely shows what he genuinely feels outward. I would guess it comes from dealing with the pain he feels alone for as long as he has.

Nonetheless, it had been the children that had crossed his path from time to time that had kept the good within Ashe going. They helped my husband and ashikabi as much if not more than he changed their lives. They would help him through some of the harder times whether knowingly or unknowingly. And Ashe says it is their innocence that attracts him, but I believe there is more to it than that. And it may be that Ashe doesn't know how to fully put into words why he is so fond of children and wishes to help him as he does.

-Ashe's pov-

With the needed conversations with Matsu and Kazehana done and the expectations set for them that they would follow or else, things moved forward. I did have thoughts of bringing Kai around the house as interacting with the other children would do well for him. I really do want Kai to have a life like any other would have the opportunity to have, circumstances haven't allowed that though.

Yet, before I could come to a decision of whether to bring my son home or not, Takami came by to "visit". She said her visitation was to check up on Minato, but I don't think that was the whole reason for her coming around. The woman is kind of a workaholic for whatever reason which I find to be unhealthy in most cases. And as there was proof needed, Takami appeared much more stressed and haggard than the last time she came around. Working for MBI is the major contributing factor that comes to mind, especially with Minaka's recent activities.

Yet, after talking a bit with Minato, Takami did come to me and asked to have a conversation with me. As it seemed she want a more private word from what I was seeing, we took a 'walk' in order to be less likely overheard. Once on our stroll, I spoke first, "So then Takami, what is it that you wish to discuss? You are not one that just drops by for a visit and I doubt that has changed recently. Although if you are just wanting time away from Minaka, then I understand and will let the poor excuse slide."

Takami didn't say anything for a few moments, but she then did, "Ashe, do you know anything about the incident that had Teito Tower in need of repair weeks ago?"

If ever there was a loaded question, this is certainly one for me and for a number of reasons. The big point in this question is that I am the one that pretty much did a portion of the damage and others that were doing it as well were taking orders from me. Although, Hiroto Minaka had set off the whole series of events by taking Miya even if he wouldn't admit any issue with what he did or ordered to be done. So what can one in my position say in this that would make sense and show the truth for what it is? "Well, I know that MBI's tower was damaged to some degree though I can't say the exact amount. However, I doubt that is what you're asking about exactly," I posed.

Takami shook her head, "No Ashe, whenever something odd happens, you always seem to know something about it. You were the one that Takehito went to for this kind of thing among other subjects. What happened at Teito tower was beyond unusual as is what followed, so what do you know about that event," she insisted.

Why is Takami coming to me when the idiot that caused the event is around her? Minaka is to blame for what happened and he had others pushing responsibility off onto others. Nina was a prime example to my view, she hadn't done anything other than keeping a semblance of order during the chaos. And yet, she was used as a scapegoat for the fiasco without hesitation, I can picture Minaka cackling with glee that he didn't have to worry about things. He still is a delusional fool and I don't see any sign of that changing in the near future.

So, I stared at the woman, "You ask me about this when some of the likely contributors to the event you refer are around you on a regular basis? Honestly, you know more of Hiroto Minaka than I do, you would be aware of the kind of individual he is Takami." I had to keep firm control on my emotions in check with talking about the fool that I detested right now. "From what I've learned from various people, Minaka is a troublemaker and will stir up chaos bringing others trouble merely to have a show to watch for himself. Those kinds of individuals bring issues for all of those around them and care nothing about any but themselves."

Takami didn't meet my gaze, "Minaka can be an idiot at times, but he has good in him," she replied.

I didn't want to hear such a falsity about the man that brings misery to people and calls it entertainment. Hiroto Minaka had shown to me in several different ways what sort of individual he is and left no doubt in the matter. Minaka is beyond selfish, obsessed and has no real moral compass and those qualities combined are a very hazardous mix. Whether Minaka had a moral compass at all to begin with, I can't say with what I know, but I have my doubts. However, the point is that Minaka shares qualities with some of the worst and more demonic "humans" the world has ever known. No, Minaka hadn't reached the same level of evil committed as those like the demon Oda yet but given time and none stopping him, Minaka could get to that point.

Perhaps that was what irked me more than other things about Minaka though I loathed him for a number of reasons. I could see the potential to become a harbinger of horror, chaos, and ruin that Minaka could turn into. That's not to say that it's certain that he would, but I've found that it is better to curtail and divert bringers of calamity sooner before they cause real chaos and ruin.

The issue with Takami is that she either doesn't see or connect Minaka to the issues he causes, or she simply doesn't want to admit that he brings problems to those around him. Which it is or the reasons that Takami is doing what she is, I don't know nor does it exactly matter in the end. If bringing attention to the truth required me laying out the evidence that proves the view I have of Hiroto Minaka as the fool that he is, then so be it. "Good in him you say Takami," I posed, "I beg to differ on that point. Do not blind yourself to the facts as they are to see what you want to be there when it is not."

Takami said nothing so I exhaled and then continued, "Minaka is beyond selfish, his game he calls the Sekirei Plan is prime evidence of the fact. For with it, he shows that he finds enjoyment in forcing misery onto others and watch them struggle and fight for their lives claiming it's a form of entertainment. Most people do not purposefully cause such events for the intention of enjoyment and entertainment Takami," I stated flatly.

Takami glanced at me and then shook her head, "That's not what the Sekirei Plan is," she snapped.

The Sekirei Plan not a fight for lives for the purpose of entertaining its creator, how else can one see it without influence of the one putting it on? I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something in this as I know Takami isn't so ignorant or dumb to recognize the truth I'm stating. "Really," I remarked then sighed, "The man calls it a game, but what the Sekirei Plan really is Takami is a war to the death that Sekirei are being shoved into without any choice. Would you consider such fit for entertainment or even practice that should be permitted?"

Takami looked at me with horror, "War? The Sekirei Plan isn't war-" she began.

Takami needs to understand that calling something by a different term doesn't change what the subject is. So, I spoke over her, "What then would you call a fight to the death with the last one standing being the winner Takami," I asked in a serious tone. "That's what the Sekirei Plan is, say it in what way you want, it doesn't change the plain truth."

"That's," began Takami but she paused, "I know the plan isn't what it was supposed to be originally," Takami replied.

That is quite the understatement of fact and yet, she still doesn't admit or connect this subject to Minaka when he is the one driving it forward as it is. I exhaled, "No, I would very much doubt the intended plan for Sekirei was to be what it is now. However, that fool Minaka has turned it into the war it has become Takami and that is fact no matter how you want to look at it. And to you personally, that man's plan has both of your children in life-threatening danger as it does all it draws in," I stated.

"Sekirei fight one another, not their ashikabi," Takami snapped.

Did Takami truly believe that ashikabi were safe in the war that Minaka is putting on? Honestly, that there hadn't been serious injury or death of an ashikabi yet is more luck than anything else I would think. Were some to know that if an ashikabi dies, so does there Sekirei, they would use that as motivation to kill others unfortunately. That the fact hadn't been made public to the participants is more that Minaka is "pleased" for the time being. Knowing that should one kill their opponent their team is eliminated is something Minaka would do to "make his game more exciting", but has not yet. So, I looked at Takami with pity, "Is that a rule which Minaka stated is a part of the Sekirei Plan? For I assure you, it isn't followed strictly by MBI's discipline squad Takami. Should you need an example, your son Minato found such out when he was injured by one of them yesterday by what he himself said."

Takami showed serious hesitation at my mentioning what had happened to Minato, which I could understand. He didn't show signs of recent injuries, the healing magic I had employed had sped things along in the recovery process. But the point I'm making to Takami is that any involved with the Sekirei Plan can be hurt by it. I would say the same of those around Minaka though that is more dangerous and in different ways if you ask me. I kept looking at Takami, "Honestly, I fear it is only a matter of time before ashikabi become in the scope of targets officially, Minaka's contentment won't last forever. I can give you other examples of the actions and fruits of the very troublemaker and his cohorts you are indirectly asking about if you wish," I suggested.

Takami glared at me, "Why do you have something against Minaka," she demanded.

I blinked before at the shift in subject gaining a slight frown as I gave a great deal against the fool, "Changing from one subject to another is normally done with a transition statement Takami instead of just moving to a different one you know. As for your question of what do I have against Minaka, a number of things as it happens. And there are some you know and others you don't and you should have things against that man as well," I said firmly.

I said my last sentence implying that Takami would do better not inquire further into what I have against Minaka. However, she didn't take the hint I was trying to give, "Such as? Name some of them and justify the reasons Ashe," she challenged.

Irritation welled up in me as I do try to be nice and kind to those I converse with even when they do not do the same. Yet as she wanted an answer to the question, I would give her one on the subject, "Where do I begin Takami?"

There were a number of grievances I have with Hiroto Minaka, both personal and non-personal reason. In fact, my list seems to only grow instead of shortening with the man the more I hear and learn about him. I've seen the results of what Minaka does, the lives he disrupts and ruins that those who live them go through and it is sad as well as infuriating to witness. The lives lost ousting MBI's security forces yesterday is only a fresh example that is a testament of what kind of man Minaka is. And for an honest answer, I figured I'd start with what drove me close to hunting down Minaka to kill him the first time, "How about we start with Takehito's death?"

"It was an accident," retorted Takami.

Her reply irked me greatly and it took effort not to growl at it, though I know that she isn't at fault for what I feel. Takami had been fed the lies about the chain of events, yet she had been there and should be able to see what happened doesn't occur by accident. So, instead, I took a deep breath, "An accident is when something is done without knowledge and/or a lack of relevant information that shows standing danger. If you believe what befell Takehito an accident, then tell me Takami was Minaka told of any potential dangers of playing with what he was before the said 'series of accidents' occurred."

Takami didn't answer me along with not meeting my gaze which I did take as she had an answer but didn't want to say it out loud. "If so, how many people told him and Minaka said something to the effect of it being nonsense or nothing to worry about. If you put that together Takami, utilizing logic and common sense I know you have, then you can see what happened was not a series of accidents as claimed by MBI. It is more premeditative intent which Takehito just happened to be on the receiving end of," I iterated. "Do you wish me to go on about how Hiroto Minaka is a foolish idiot that cares nothing but for himself? I assure you, I can keep going for a while," I said leaving my sentence open.

"Minaka didn't kill Takehito," Takami replied promptly.

I kept my face from showing the anger I felt, at the one that is responsible for my friend's death being claimed to be innocent. "That is like saying that one who sets a forest fire isn't responsible for the deaths that come from the fire itself." I paused and then exhaled heavily, "Minaka may not have used direct and simple means to do it, but his actions certainly contributed to it. If Takehito hadn't done what he had, we wouldn't be here having this conversation, nor would the Sekirei Plan be happening at all, yet here we are," I reasoned.

Takami seemed to be at a loss for words, so I kept going, "Did Minaka even take a single minute to honor Takehito's sacrifice which saved his life along with others? Or was it back to work as usual and getting to work on his Sekirei plan the day after Takehito saved him," I questioned flatly.

I decided to just say the facts as they were and hope that Takami can see the truth as it is. It would be better, in the end, were she to not be around Minaka, I wouldn't doubt her quality of life would improve. That said, I shrugged at her, "But then, Takehito was one of those that were against Minaka's game happening, so why wouldn't he be pleased that Takehito was silenced and then Minaka would have less if any resistance to his whims? Let that stand as a bar of judgement for Minaka in this and other things."

"It's not like that Ashe," insisted Takami.

I paused and stared incredulously at the woman as this was out of place for her and by a sizable margin. She was ignoring fairly blatant logic and common sense and Takami Sahashi doesn't do that regularly. So, my question would be why is she going so far to defend a man that has shown that he doesn't care about anyone or anything aside from himself and his ambitions? "Takami, why are you so stubbornly defending the idiotic fool Hiroto Minaka? He is the one stressing you beyond measure, he works you to the bone and still makes your life harder seemingly because he can. He has put your children in real danger and laughs it off I wouldn't doubt as nothing wrong and probably enjoys seeing them struggle to not get killed in his game of war. So why go as far as you are for him," I inquired.

Takami once again didn't answer me, but I still was trying to come up with an explanation as to why this woman was doing what she was. "This is unlike you Takami even with the few years that I have gotten to know you," I remarked. "You have shown that you don't bow to the whims of others without very good reason and keeping a career isn't a good reason to you, your pride wouldn't allow that. Yet the man that has in essence ruined your family life among other things yet, you defend with zeal and it makes no sense." I stopped as when I mentioned family, there was a reaction from Takami which gave me pause. That brought a thought to my mind and it was ridiculous, but to be sure, I wanted to hear the denial from Takami herself. "You haven't actually been in a relationship with Hiroto Minaka at some point, have you Takami?"

The woman's silence served as an answer to me, she had been in a relationship with Hiroto Minaka at one point whether she was still now or not. The revelation explained a number of things in fact, the implications were a mix of things though. That Takami had been with Minaka implied that the delusionary fool was likely the male sire of Minato and his sister. And where I know inheritance is a fickle thing in how it works and the variance can be extreme, but this is certainly one of the more extreme cases I've seen. However, this did explain why Takami wasn't fond of talking about her children's male sire and I don't blame her in the slightest knowing the identity of the man. But why then would she defend him when he all but wrecked the relationship Takami has with her children along with others?

"Okay then Takami," I began, "answer me this, why defend Hiroto Minaka when he has caused you such trouble? Do you really still care about the man?" Takami still said nothing, which I took as a yes to my question, "So you do."

I sighed in pity as this was sad to see a case of one-sided care this harsh. Takami would do much better to leave the fool behind and move on, not just for herself, but her children would benefit too. Plus, Minaka doesn't deserve Takami, the idiot would do better being locked up and the key being tossed away. I spoke again as it was best Takami hear the truth, "If you think that Hiroto Minaka cares about you, then when was the last time that he went out of his way to do something for you and not expect something in return? Or when was the last time that he said that he cared about you in some way that didn't relate to his Sekirei Plan? If you can't answer those questions with something that occurred recently, then it shows that he cares little if any for you."

Takami didn't take my remarks well at all, which I expected, but sometimes the truth can hurt for a time. Yet, admitting and then accepting the truth is required for moving forward onto chances for a better-quality life. Still, Takami glared at me angrily, "And what would you know about family and the hardships that come with it Ashe," she demanded.

An angry frown flashed across my face momentarily as it was because of Minaka that my family had a member stolen and the rest are kept apart right now. I wanted my family to be together and that had included Takehito, but he had been ripped away from me by the very individual that Takami is defending. But apparently, Minaka hadn't been satisfied with ending Takehito's life which has saved his own. No, he had taken Miya recently which had forced me to have to take her back from the fool before he could do anything to her. Yet, I kept in control of my emotions as I gave my reply, "More than you would expect Takami, and not just from observing others, but-"

I would have said more, but Takami interrupted me, "Watching isn't the same Ashe, so don't say you know what it is to keep your own children from being influenced by a nut-case," she snarled angrily.

This woman hasn't a clue, but how could she in this? She blinded herself to not just the blatant faults that Minaka flaunts as his better qualities. She doesn't even admit the results that are left in the wake of what the fool she cares about creates. Minaka laughs off doing horrible things that would normally be considered crimes and thinks nothing of his actions. He displays the definition of a mad fool and isn't ashamed of it at all and no one around him has the courage to stand up to him.

For me, my son has to live apart for his own safety because of the same said nut-case that Takami is talking about. Minaka would do horrible things to Kai were he to learn of his existence and I don't want to know specifically what. So, I know what it is to keep my child safe from one that would likely harm him at the very least if not worse. I managed to put up a mask as I gazed at Takami, "You think so Takami, well you would be wrong in that as it happens."

"Stop being so damn calm," growled Takami in close to a shout.

A visible frown set itself on my face coming through the mask, "Then you think how you express things is more effective Takami," I asked all the remaining emotion fading from my voice. Still I continued, "Then for your information, Miya and I live apart from our son due to the threat the very same nut-case as you called him poses to our child."

Takami blinked at my reply and lost her anger for a moment, "Wait, you have a child," she uttered.

I was keeping myself together and not blowing up, but it was difficult, I merely nodded, "Yes, Miya and I do have a son Takami. He even came to see Takehito as an uncle and Takehito had grown to care about him before he went off and was killed. And the decision to have him not live with us has been one of the hardest ones that Miya and I have made as parents," I said evenly. I took a moment to breathe in and out to calm down a bit, "You can argue the point as you wish and correct me if I am wrong somehow, but Minaka sees nothing wrong with committing wrongs to get what he wants." Takami said nothing to my statement, and so I kept going, "And Takehito did mention to me that the man did suggest having an interest in what a child of a Sekirei would be capable of."

Takami was gazing at me incredulously at what I was implying, "Yes, he has said things to suggest that, but he wouldn't hurt a child Ashe," she replied.

A shudder went through me at be told a lie that mounting evidence strongly denies, "I do not share any of the confidence you have in Minaka Takami. In fact, I'm more inclined to believe that he would do horrible things as he has done to Sekirei and the results of the work MBI has done to the is my standing proof of my view. That view in mind, I will not let Minaka use my son to satisfy his morbid and sick curiosity and then toss him aside when he either breaks or kills him cackling as he does so. So Takami, yes, I do know of your motivation to protect your children for I do the same for my boy against the very same idiot that puts yours in danger."

"Ashe," Takami stated clearly, "Minaka would not do what you say he would."

Takami is blinding herself of what Minaka does more than I had suspected she was. And I would make sure the idiot wouldn't do what I know he would were he to learn of Kai's existence. I would rip his head off where he stood and kill him before he ever got started torturing my son, and I know Miya would be doing much the same kind of thing as I would. I had gotten close to hunting down Minaka and killing him after Takehito died, I would go through with the idea if Kai became involved.

My head fell slightly bringing shadows over my eyes as I gave my answer to Takami, "In that Takami, we can agree," I remarked as I felt my fox features coming out reflecting my anger, not that Takami gave any signs that she could see them. "As I would end Minaka's life myself before he would do anything even potentially harmful to my son by whatever means that would be required to bring his demise about. And if that isn't enough, any who try continuing his intentions will suffer the same fate."

"Ashe," uttered Takami, "Stop talking such nonsense."

My mood wasn't the greatest now, not with the subject matter being what it was, "Nonsense you say Takami," I questioned. "Tell me, MBI a tad short on its security force lately," Takami said nothing, "Or perhaps having a hard time getting more recruits?"

"What are you talking about," questioned Takami.

So, Takami wasn't informed about the stunt that Minaka ordered some to try and have control the north of Tokyo. I suspect that a good portion of those within MBI didn't know what went on in the background. Most would unlikely work for Minaka were they to know what he does that aren't publicly known and/or arranged to be waved off. I took a moment to calm down and compose myself, "Just how much do you know about what Minaka does with his time Takami," I asked.

Takami gained a baffled expression, "What does that have to do with anything," she questioned.

This woman knows so little about the subject of individuals that are in need of regular supervision that are left to their own devices and aren't watched. Minaka is rather a good example of the idea, just look at the results of his actions more specifically what they do to others. Leaving an idiot to their own devices is usually not the best idea though lessons can be learned. However, leaving an individual that doesn't have stable working mental facilities to do as they please is asking for trouble. It's worse when the one in question had inclinations to demonic and evil behavior and I've encountered a few of those.

I sighed, "I would assume by now Takami that you have seen displays of Minaka finding enjoyment in doing things that it would be better he didn't," I posed. Takami didn't say anything so I continued, "I would be shocked with you if you haven't even if you do not wish to say so. Well, it happens more often than you think it does and in ways that would not settle well with you Takami."

Takami hesitated, "I know he can be an idiot at times and even do things that he should know better with," she said.

I gazed at her expressionlessly, "Oh, Minaka does and orders others to do things that are more than stupid Takami. Just last night he sent a group of MBI's security forces around here though they were sent on their way," I stated.

Takami shook her head, "Ashe, this is not the time to joke about such ridiculous things," she replied.

I'm left to wonder what Takami is told about what goes on with MBI because it sounds like there is a lot of things that she isn't informed of. I mean, she does the work on Sekirei that are severely injured from fights, so she has to wonder what happens sometimes. An example would be the state that Miya and I put Karasuba in since we hadn't killed her, but we had beaten her to an extent that showed clearly. Then I would imagine that the other two Sekirei that had been with those that had been with the group that took Miya couldn't have been in good condition. So, Takami would have asked questions I wouldn't doubt, but I assume got little to no answer. "Joking Takami," I questioned, "Why would you assume I would make light of a subject like this?"

Takami exhaled, "What you suggest is nonsense, no one at MBI would do something like that," she reasoned.

I folded my arms, "Really Takami, then care to explain why you seem to work more lately when little should have changed recently," I challenged.

"There have been," Takami started then hesitated, "complications that weren't predicted."

"You don't say," I remarked thinking about some of the messes that had been brought to my attention already. "Would some of those complications involve one by the name of Karasuba?"

Takami's gaze snapped to my face, "Wait, you know Karasuba," she uttered.

I nodded, "Yes, unfortunately, our paths have crossed a few times, and those encounters haven't been pleasant ones. However, back to the previous subject, you believe what I said about MBI coming around here and making trouble being untrue," I said.

Takami sighed, "Ashe enough of your issue with Minaka," she commented.

I sniffed, "If he would use his brain for the purpose it was intended for, I wouldn't have as much an issue as I do," I returned. "But as I recall it being put somewhat last night, Hiroto Minaka has other ideas and intends to enforce his views onto those that won't agree with him. At least that's how the one named Natsuo kind of said it and I wasn't amused with the implications."

"Natsuo," question Takami, "He shouldn't be around here."

I nodded, "Oh, I agree with you Takami, but nonetheless, Minaka's lapdog came by last night and caused issues for others." I took a breath, "First, he implied that Yume still worked for MBI as part of their enforcement squad which she is not. Also said that Minaka's word or order is akin to law to be followed without question and just be accepted."

The confusion that showed on Takami's face increased as I spoke, "How do you even know about Yume Ashe," she asked. "Yes, she left a little over a week ago, but that doesn't connect to how you would have known about her."

I paused, "All you need to know at the moment is that Yume doesn't work or belong to MBI and has found her place. Perhaps you could learn more later," I stated and then continued where I had left off. "I politely said for Natsuo and those with him to be on their way and their intrusion would be dismissed. The advice what ignored with Natsuo stating 'the northern sector of Shinto Tato will fall into proper line and place as president Minaka instructed tonight, its resistance has been tolerated long enough,' in those exact words. Then MBI attempted to enforce their dominion by brute force, which was repelled. The cost of that was live being lost, which Minaka doesn't give any care about and likely laughs it off as nothing. That's what I refer to Takami, but from what you have said, you have not been told of any of this."

Takami said nothing and seemed to be in shock, so I said one more thing, "If you want more proof of what I say, you can ask Minaka what he thinks of the northern area of the city. Or you can even ask Natsuo how Karasuba got in the condition she was brought to you in. You won't get a straight answer from either of them, so let that stand as a sign that they are not telling you the truth or just lying to you."

Takami seemed to have lost her ability to speak, I went into the last subject I wanted to get across, more as a warning and motivation for her to distance herself from Minaka. "You are a good person Takami even if others disagree, I can see that with you even if you don't yourself," I started. "And because of that I tell you to distance yourself from Minaka while you are able, don't let him trick and draw you into his delusions of grander."

I took a breath and continued, "The phrase 'by their fruits, ye shall know them' is truer than most would think. Minaka's actions bear sour and rotten fruit far more often than not and that shows where his values lie. Actions are paid in kind, justice is consistent in that in the end even if it is delayed sometimes." I paused for a moment and then continued, "That being said, it includes actions that are selfish that effect others which Minaka does regularly I assure you Takami."

Takami looked to be at odds with what I was telling her even as I kept going, "Justice is a rather strict mistress though patience as well, in the end she demands what is due and she will not be denied. Her twin which is Vengeance is even more adamant in have what she demands and she is less fair then Justice is. And I promise you Takami, Vengeance heeds the cries of retribution of victims more often than not. In Minaka's care, his expectation of Justice not taking anything from him is false and he will be made to realize that. Then Vengeance will take what she requires and I believe it will be more than what Justice will extract." I paused and then gave my final line, "So I urge again Takami, distance yourself from Minaka so that you don't get caught up in the consequences that will fall upon him."

The conversation ended on that note and I saw little reason to tell Takami more than I had. There was no reason for her to know that I'm an ashikabi and the only one as far as I know that isn't registered by MBI. Nor did I intend for my Sekirei to participate in Minaka's war even though he insists that all Sekirei will. And if it is required to show proof that Minaka is unable to go through with his threats, then I will do so. Then there are just things about me that are better left unsaid and unknown, and Takami has enough to deal with right now.

I had begun traveling home when I crossed paths with a woman that appeared to be looking for something or someone. The woman was a couple of inches shorter than me and had a feminine figure though she did appear to be a tad "rough around the edges". She had dark blue hair that looked to go to her mid-back and there were two stripes of silver on either side of the center of her bangs. Her ears on her head showed that she was a wolf youkai and she also had a tale behind her that matched. The woman was wearing a black button-up jacket with a tie and fur ruff around the neck. She had a black and grey skirt that went to her mid-thighs and black thigh high socks with combat boots.

A woman like this one was somewhat a rare sight around the north of Tokyo, in some of the other areas of the city maybe but in the north, she stuck out a bit. Yet there was something about the woman that seemed familiar to me though I was unable to place the feeling at the moment. So, I approached the woman trying to figure out why this female could be familiar. As I got closer I began to hear her muttering things, "Where could that boy have gotten off to?"

I decided that asking this woman whom she could be looking for and perhaps figure out who she might be would help things along. "Excuse me Miss," I started, "it appears you are looking for someone-" I stopped as the woman looked to my face and I found myself looking at a bronze and a blue eye. The combination instantly had been recalling one of the children I had raised and recently in fact. My voice caught as we stared at each other before the woman gained a smile, "Ashe," she questioned.

I could only nod in answer which got the woman to rush forward and hug me, "DAD," she cried as she nuzzled my cheek. "It's so good to see you again, I didn't think I would bump into you around here," she said.

The woman that was now embracing me was none other than Rena, the wolf-girl that I had raised up until around two decades ago. I was happy to see her of course as I am with any of the children I take in as it is good to see them make a life for themselves. Granted, Rena and the other that I had taken in around the same timeframe Mari had been a handful and had gotten close to bringing down Izumo Inn a few times. Both had left when they had been in their early twenties to seek their own path and that had been the last I had seen of either of them. A smile found its way to my face at realizing who was hugging me, "The feeling is mutual Rena, it is good to see you are doing well for yourself," I returned.

Rena pulled back a little, "Oh, I take care of myself and my pack the best I can just as you taught me to look after and protect my family," she stated with pride.

I inclined my head, "It's good to know that some of the lessons I imparted to you are being applied. Nonetheless, as you're around here, perhaps you would like to drop by the house if you have the time of course," I suggested.

Rena's smile widened a bit, "That would be great, I would love to see the house after the years I left it," she replied.

I gestured forward to say the direction we would go and the two of us set off toward Izumo Inn. The sun was setting by the time the two of us got to the house and upon glancing at Rena, I could see she was looking around with excitement. "So much has changed and yet a lot has stayed the same too," she said.

I chuckled, "Indeed, and I have four children I'm giving a home now as of yesterday as it happens, much like I did for you and Mari," I remarked.

Rena's smile softened, "You'll give them a good place to learn and grow," she said, "You did so for a wild girl like me when others didn't think I was worth the time."

I put a hand around one of her shoulders, "You were a challenge, but you turned out well enough Rena, so the time you spent around Izumo Inn was worth it," I assured.

The two of us entered the house and the moment we had the noise of activity assaulted us. It was clear that the kids were still expending their energies before the evening meal and the rest of the tenants were the recipients of the energy. The smell in the air said that dinner was being worked on and was likely getting close to being done. The chaos would take some getting used to and it would be organized chaos, Miya and I would make sure of that. But I will admit it was nice to have the sounds of children around the house again after the years since Rena and Mari along with Kai being absent for a couple of years now.

-Miya's pov-

It was around dinner time, Yume, Kuu and I were working on preparing the meal for everyone while Yashima and Akitsu were keeping eyes on the children. The other tenants were drawn in by the children and their insistence of having attention. It certainly brought back to my mind some of the early times with Kai always wanting to play and learn. Although, it did seem that Minato was popular with the kids more than any other, or rather he didn't refuse them. But he did seem to enjoy time around the children and they appeared to like him or his personality.

Oh, Musubi was like by the four yet I had expected that, her cheerful optimism was a strength for her as it ever was. Plus, she acted as a child would to an extent though not in a bad way necessarily even if it can be frustrating sometimes. Tsukiumi didn't seem to understand that children can't be treated like adults, and she was trying to tell the kids what to do. The kids had been proving that the blonde wouldn't command them by not listening to what she said. It became clear that Tsukiumi quickly got frustrate that the children were not doing what she told them, but she didn't give up trying.

And thus far, neither Matsu nor Kazehana had done anything that they had been warned not to do and I had been watching. I think Ashe had scared Matsu enough to get the point across that she was to behave around the four children or else face the consequences which would include getting tossed out among other things I wouldn't doubt. I had done similar for Kazehana and she was on better behavior than she had been before now. And though the children brought an amount of chaos, it wasn't the bad kind that is unwanted.

For those of us connected to Ashe, we were waiting for him to return home as he had gone out with Takami who had visited today after she had asked to have a word with him earlier. That was fine, but it had been in the late afternoon and there had come a period that it had become clear to me that Ashe hadn't appreciated whatever the subject matter Takami had been talking about with him was. It had gotten close to the point that I had prepared to head out and track Ashe down and find out what was going on. However, Ashe had calmed down in the end and I believe was heading home though he was taking some time. With the emotions I had felt, I was willing to give him a bit of time to gather his thoughts. We would perhaps discuss what had gotten him as angry as he had been for a time.

So when Ashe had arrived back, I headed for the door to greet him and hopefully help his mood. I entered the front hallway and saw my husband, "Ashe, I was wondering what was taking you so," I began yet stopped when I noticed that Ashe wasn't alone. The woman was a few inches taller than me but was shorter than Ashe was with him. She had defined feminine curves though had a rough look about her. Her hair was dark blue and looked to go to her mid-back and there were two stripes of silver on either side of the center of her bangs. Her ears on her head suggested that she was youkai, likely a canine-type like Ashe which her tale behind her matched that assumption. The woman was wearing a black button-up jacket with a tie and fur ruff around the neck. She had a black and grey skirt that went to her mid-thighs and black thigh high socks with combat boots.

I hadn't ever seen this woman before nor had Ashe mentioned anyone like this woman and he seemed to know her. So I just asked him, "Ashe who is she?"

The woman took a step forward and bowed towards me, "My name is Rena, pardon my intrusion," she greeted.

The showing of manners is unexpected from someone that has an appearance like this female has. She at least gave a name for herself though that doesn't explain much as to why she is here and how she could possibly know my husband. When I glanced at Ashe, he was shaking his head, "Rena, you are not intruding as you will always be welcome to drop by," he chided. "Although your show of manners is quite nice as it shows me that those lessons stuck well with you and I hope they have served you well." Ashe turned to me, "Rena here is one of those I took in some time ago and I bumped into her not too long after I finished my conversation with Takami. I invited her to come by is wanted to see the house as it has been years since she was around here."

So then, this Rena is one of the children that Ashe took in and raised before now, that makes more sense. He has talked about some of them yet I can't say he mentioned this Rena to me specifically. "I see," I replied.

Rena gasped, "Wait," she started, "then she is the one that Regenia was talking about, the woman you found for yourself to spend time with dad?"

Yet another name I'm not the most familiar with, though I have heard it before now from Ashe in reference to another. Regenia is one that Ashe said was a "wild one" that he had come across and helped and now she keeps Ashe informed on other places around Japan according to him. Ashe twisted back to gaze and Rena, "Yes, Miya is my wife. Although, I'm quite surprised that you heard such from Regenia, she travels quite a bit," he returned.

Rena shrugged, "She came by where I live around six months ago and when I asked her if she had heard anything new about you, she told me about your wedding among other things," she answered.

I moved forward, "It's nice to meet one Ashe has helped as it always is," I greeted kindly.

Rena did stay for dinner, which was fine though she did get some curious looks from the other tenants of the house. She did seem to get along with the children but she might understand their position as Ashe said she had lived here for a period. It was as dinner was being cleaned up that Ashe and Rena went to the living room and I believe caught up on what had been happening with one another. By the time that the children were put to bed, that I then headed for the living room to see if Ashe was still talking.

"So then," came Ashe's voice, "What has brought you around Tokyo Rena, you seemed to have been looking for someone by what I saw."

I entered the living room and saw that Ashe was still talking to Rena who was sitting across from him. "Well, as I said, I have a pack now," Rena was saying but then she stopped.

Ashe chuckled softly, "And by what you have said, you've caught yourself quite the good man Rena," he commented as I took a seat next to him.

Rena laughed, "Yes, I had my doubts about Kensei Sanada at first, but he turned out to be a sweet man, more than I thought. And it wasn't what he said as the idiot has a mouth that spouts crap before he can think right. His actions speak for him far better than his words and I suppose that is what intrigued me so."

Memories of how Ashe had caught my attention and entranced me so came to my mind and I couldn't stop the smile that came to my face. "It sounds like you love him, isn't that what matters," I posed.

Rena nodded, "I guess that's a good way of putting it," she replied. Then she took a breath, "the reason I'm here though is I'm searching for one of my pups, my youngest in fact."

"Lost one of yours around the city," asked Ashe.

Rena shook her head and sighed, "No, he ran off after saying something about needing to find his own path. My son can dive headfirst in before thinking and I worry about him because of that, gets that from his father."

Ashe chuckled, "I seem to recall you had some of that kind of fire in you Rena and you seem to be doing fine thus far."

Rena exhaled, "Maybe it's that he is the only boy I have that has me worrying about him, I want to make sure my pup isn't doing something stupid," she returned.

"Your pup got a name Rena," questioned Ashe.

"His name is Nishi," she answered.

The name didn't ring any bells to me and nor did they to Ashe, but I could feel that Ashe wanted to help Rena. So Ashe went out with the woman and said he would be back as soon as he could. I let him go as it is in Ashe's nature to wish to help others with the issues they deal with and it is a good quality of his. Ashe would be back and I knew that, but with all that had been occurring lately including the Sekirei Plan, I worry about him.

-Ashe's pov-

Rena and I set out looking for her pup who she suspected was somewhere around Tokyo. The problem was there was no more information to narrow down where her kid could be other than around the city. Thankfully, she did have something with his scent and that helped us track him to the western sector of the city. It still took time to find the boy, but I came upon him first and found him with three girls around him that were actually Sekirei.

Rena's boy himself was a lean black-haired man of average height with a gruff, wild look on him. His appearance did match what Rena had given me and it made me guess that he inherited his looks from his father. The young man was wearing a black leather jacket, trousers with a white skull belt and a pair of leather gloves. He also had goggles wrapped around his neck for some reason, couldn't say why he had them.

It seemed better for me to start by getting his attention, "Excuse me young man," I called out.

The young man twisted around and all but glared at me, "Yeah, you got something to say to me geezer," he challenged.

The glare was familiar, Rena used to give it to me from time to time, the manners were what my teaching had corrected for her. So, in short, this kid in more than likely Rena's pup, may not have her looks, but certainly still remains me of how she once was and still can be sometimes. I gave a slight smile, "I merely wished to ask your name as it happens," I said simply.

"Is that right," he challenged, "well, my name is Nishi Sanada old man, you got a problem with me?!"

Of the lack of manners, no, though I would say they are rather rude, and normally I would ignore such, but tonight I feel will be different. I won't be the one that teaches about his poor manners, I'm betting his mother will be doing that. "Personally, no I do not have an issue," I replied, "However, I have a feeling that there is one that might." And as if my remark was a signal, a figure shot past me and slammed into Nishi hard and sent him flying back a short distance. The figure turned out to be Rena which I had sensed her coming, but the young man hadn't.

Once Nishi came to a stop and his Sekirei gathered around him, it was clear that he wasn't pleased with being hit with the groaning he was voicing. "Whoever the hell just hit me is going to pay for that shot," he growled. I spotted wolf ears flipping up out of his hair, "So you better prepare yourself for the hardest beatdown-" he was saying glaring at Rena, but he went silent the moment he saw Rena approaching him.

The expression on Rena's face wasn't pretty, more a challenge to fight back, "Will you be stupid enough to repeat that Nishi," she growled, "As I believe I heard you wrong. For I know you've been taught better and are smarter than to threaten me and get away with such crap."

The kid didn't answer his mother, he was more looking worried about her being here. "Master, are you okay," asked one of the Sekirei with Nishi. The Sekirei was dark skinned with equally dark blue-blackish hair with green eyes. She was wearing a black leather top only covering the upper part of her chest and leather bloomers and stockings. The outfit once again had me questioning what those within MBI view as proper as what I'm seeing is not.

"Yeah Master, you could totally beat this lady," said another Sekirei in a cheerful tone. The Sekirei like the first one was dark skinned, yet she had blonde hair and blue eyes instead of dark hair and green eyes. The clothes however, were worse than the first consisting of a leather bra top with two yellow stars on her bra and something akin to skin-tight shorts/panties. The degeneration of moral values is sad to witness, and I doubt the young man chose the outfits, Rena would have taught him better than that.

Rena ignored what was being said and was focused on her son who was looking a tad nervous. Rena grabbed her boy and yanked him up from the ground, "Well, don't you have something to say to me boy," she snapped.

Nishi swallowed hard, "Hey mom, you are looking good as always," he said.

A third Sekirei who looked like a twelve-year-old girl had blond hair and grey eyes were close by the other two. She was in a white sweater, far too big and with too long sleeves for her figure and around her hips, she had a white veil held by a black belt, topped off with a big white scarf and black knee length boots. The three Sekirei began moving towards Nishi, but I thought it would be best that mother and son not to be interrupted. So, I used magic to pull them back towards me with them complaining, "Ladies, let the two have their conversation," I suggested, "It will be better in the end if they do."

My gaze flicked back to Rena and I could tell she wasn't happy with the answer her son had given her. "That's all you can think to say after running off," she snarled and then gave her pup a solid body blow sending him a short distance forward from her.

Rena didn't stop there, she shot forward and began giving her boy a beatdown as she reprimanded him. Nishi did attempt to defend himself both with words and exchange strikes with his mother. Nevertheless, Rena was much better at fighting than her pup was and so her kid was forced to take some hits. Now for those watching something like this, they may think that this is a parent abusing their child but it isn't. This is common with some youkai, wolves being one of them, which you can call "tough love". You toughen your offspring to be able to take what life throws at you, a mentality I can understand though don't entirely agree with myself.

Yet there came a point I thought it better that the disciplining be finished as the three Sekirei I was holding back were struggling harder to get to Nishi. "Rena, I believe you have made your point to him, there is no need to beat him to the point you knock him out," I suggested calmly.

Rena looked over to me before she exhaled, "Yeah, supposed so even if I'm still ticked with what he has done," she replied and let go of Nishi.

The young man dropped to the ground before staring at his mother, "What the," he started glancing over at me, "Since when do you listen to others that easily mom? Even dad has to do some convincing to get you to agree to things most of the time, yet this geezer makes a single suggestion and you do it without question. What's the deal?"

Rena's glare got her son to shut his mouth, "He," she said pointing to me, "has earned my respect, and you will be showing the same to him." Rena turned toward me and bowed, "I apologize for my son's disrespect, he is still a pup in some ways, he should know better, so please be patient with him dad."

I released the three Sekirei that likely were connected to Nishi who ran towards him the moment that they could. Whereas I waved a hand, "It's okay Rena, the young can be ignorant, but they can learn," I replied.

"Hold on," uttered Nishi looking between Rena and me, "You're saying that this guy is the one you have gone on about off and on? The one that raised you and you keep referring to as the father figure in your life mom?"

Rena twisted to give a stern look at her son, "That's right Nishi, now you better apologize, or I'll make sure your sisters know where you ran off to and come to spend what they see as 'quality time' with you."

Nishi stiffened and paled slightly at what Rena said and his three Sekirei around him looked more worried about him. "Master, what is wrong," asked one.

However, Nishi didn't answer his Sekirei instead he faced me and pressed his head against the ground, "I'm so sorry for calling you a geezer sir! It was wrong and disrespectful of me and I ask for your forgiveness," he begged.

The reaction made me a tad curious about what kind of experiences this boy could have had with his sisters to make him so willing to cast aside his pride like this. Youkai like humans don't tend to throw their pride aside, and there are some that are notoriously stubborn. Wolf youkai are one of those that hold onto their pride more than cast it away, so whatever had happened to this kid had to be horrid to get him to be like this. "You are forgiven young man, just take this as a learning experience and improve yourself going forward," I returned.

"I will do my utmost," Nishi instantly replied.

My gaze shifted over to Rena, "Should I ask what your daughters could have done to your son that would have him so scared that he would be instantly obedient," I asked. "Wolves are well-known for enduring rather than bowing and I've seen proof of that many times."

Nishi flinched and shook a bit as quiet whines came from him, Rena shook her head at seeing this. That implied that there was a story to this to me, and where I know family can be good and bad both from observation and on a personal level, this is somewhat more extreme. "His two older sisters are quite fond of him in a few ways that don't sit well with Nishi," Rena started and when she said a 'few ways' Nishi flinched again, stronger than the previous time. "I believe their affections had some negative effects on him," Rena continued.

Nishi yipped, "Affections? They got close to smothering me while 'toughening me up' as they put it, they fight over which one of them owned me practically mom! They are one of the reasons I left the house as I did," he snapped.

Rena gazed sternly at her pup, "And am I not a good mother not telling your sisters you likely went to Tokyo and for them to stay home to help your father while I came to check on you instead of them," she posed. Nishi paled further, "Yes, your sisters were more than willing to come and find you, likely dragging you back home, but I talked them out of it."

The response was immediate as Nishi shot forward and hugged his mother, "Thank you for getting them to stay home mom, you're a lifesaver. You're the best mother any could ask for," he insisted.

It was actually kind of amusing to watch Rena with her son and the boy was notable taller than her, yet Rena was treating her pup like he wasn't. Rena grunted, "That's better, showing gratitude for help being extended," she returned. After a few minutes, Rena seemed to noice the Sekirei that were with her son, "Nishi," she began which got the young man's attention, "Who are these girls?"

Rena's kid looked away from her, "Oh well, you see mom, they sort of found me," he started. Then Nishi went into how these three Sekirei came to him and he had been looking after them since. He did talk about what I assume was them being winged but he didn't know about the subject by that name. Rena didn't say anything as her son tried explaining himself to her and I would give the kid credit for telling the truth after the beatdown he received.

When Nishi finished, Rena just stared at him, "So then, you intend to stay with these girls then do you Nishi," she questioned.

"They need me, I haven't felt that in this way before mom, to be depended upon is different than I thought it would be and honestly, I like it," Nishi replied.

"I believe these girls will help your son Rena, their race has a tendency to do so I've found," I remarked.

I saw the signs of a smile starting to form on Rena's face, then she let out a laugh, "What a surprise this is, it seems you finally started growing up Nishi."

Nishi looked baffled at his mother's actions, however, I knew to what Rena was referring to in this. Her pup was learning and coming into the position of a "pack leader" it's not one that you are just ready for, you have to work to come into it. So, I chuckled as well, "I would agree Rena, your son is showing potential for a leader of a pack."

"Indeed he is," Rena said focusing on her boy, "Although I didn't think his pack would start with some from a race I've never encountered before."

Rena turned on the spot, "That he is doing okay is enough for now," she commented as she began walking away from us. Yet she stopped after a few steps, "Nishi, be sure that you visit home every once and a while, or else your sisters might worry enough to come looking for you and ignore your father and me."

I took my leave and headed back towards Izumo Inn as this was a family affair and Rena seemed to have things in hand. Plus, my family is waiting for me back at the house and I've kept them waiting long enough I would think. I told Miya I would be back as soon as I could, so it was time for me to do so.

A/n

Okie dokie, I'll leave off there with this chapter. There are a couple of things I would like to clarify from this chapter. The first is how I singled out both Matsu and Kazehana for being potential bad influences for the children that are now living at Izumo Inn.

Matsu is a troublemaker and I believe that has been made rather clear with what she's done thus far, so she had what Ashe delivered coming. Kazehana, is not exactly in the same boat as Matsu is, but I infer that she has an interest in "young men" or "boys" as she is a flirt and that is a flavor of such. The anime nor the manga give that impression I know, but I like to give some more depth to some of the characters that come from the series. And where Ashe threatens Matsu with separating her from Minato, I repeat him in saying it would more test if there is a contract or a bond between them and there is a difference. A contract is a simple connection and can be forced whereas a bond cannot be forced at all and is stronger. And Ashe doesn't know which Minato and Matsu have, and I won't be telling which it is yet.

Point number two, the conversation between Ashe and Takami along with what is implied with it. The first thing I want to bring attention to is that Takami doesn't know about every thing that Minaka does and he doesn't tell her as he may in canon. She knows Minaka can be stupid and can do idiotic things, but she does want to see the good he could have. Ashe on the other hand sees it differently than Takami as the conversation does say. That is not to say that Takami is blind to what things go on, its more than she is roped in and doesn't get told everything MBI does.

Lastly, the bit with Rena, she is a character I came up with some time ago and just didn't have the right opportunity to use her until now. It came when I had the thought of how it would be amusing to have one of the canon characters have youkai blood in them. As it should be obvious by this point, Nishi Sanada is the one I picked and I think he'll fit quite nicely. As for the beating his mother gave him Ashe calls it tough love for a reason, plus, gives Nishi some more depth of character I believe.

To sum up these ending notes, I would ask some as I usually do to take the time to write a review and tell me what you think of the chapter. It helps me improve my writing and the stories I create, so it is helpful. See you all next chapter!
