"Alright MaSha." Po spoke to her softly. The Dragon Warrior and the young teen were in her room standing over a table in the center of it, lots of wood chips spilled all over the floor and large chunks of miss carved wood on the table. "Don't put too much pressure on the wood or you'll break it again."
MaSha looked at the chunk of wood in front of her. It had taken her many hours that day to get the shape of the wood the way she wanted and for some reason she couldn't get the arm just right. She had broken the arm off of at least five figurines already and she was growing impatient with herself. She was surprised the Dragon Warrior still hadn't lost his temper with her. Was he that calm?
Po watched as the young teen carefully followed his steps, opting to cut off smaller pieces instead of larger ones. It was a slower process but at least this way she wouldn't cut off more than she needed to. MaSha carefully carved the arm with a small knife that Po had bought specifically made for carving wood. The knife was easy to hold and was small enough to reach places one didn't really need to reach.
Crack!
There goes that arm. MaSha growled in frustration as the arm sported a brand new crack. That wasn't going to be easy to hide with paint.
"Hey it's okay." Po told her. "No need to get angry. It won't do you any good."
"That's easy for you to say." MaSha glared at him. "You already know how to do this."
"Just relax." Po spoke calmly. "Learning to carve into the wood is like summoning your chi for the first time. You have to be patient." MaSha raised a brow at him. "Surely you remember how frustrating it was when you first summoned it right?"
"I summoned it by accident when I was two, Dragon Warrior." MaSha looked unamused. "My mother beat me everyday until I summoned it again."
"Oh." Po's eyes widened. He did not know that. "Well…um..bad example."
MaSha rolled her eyes with a sigh, looking at her figurine with the broken arm. She thought for sure she was getting so close. All those failed attempts through the day seemed as if they were finally going to pay off. Now she was back at square one.
"Don't beat yourself up." Po looked at her. "It took me weeks to get where you are. You're a quick learner."
"Apparently not quick enough." MaSha frowned. Po pouted in thought.
"You know what." Po began to pick up the broken wooden figures. "That's enough wood carving for today. How about a game of mahjong?"
"You know how to play?" MaSha looked interested.
"I play with Tigress, Master Shifu and my dad very often." Po responds. "I've never been good at it but you know, I am learning and have gotten better. Come on, maybe Tigress and Yang will join us." Po exited the room with a handful of wood chunks and probably other junk he would likely breathe in. MaSha slowly and quietly followed after him.
"Ha! I finally win!" Yang celebrated as he placed his tiles down.
"Not so fast." MaSha smirked before revealing her set. It was certainly a much better set than Yang's.
"Very nice." Po smiled seeing her set. Yang looked visually shocked between her set and his.
"And this is why I do not play with MaSha." Tigress chuckled. She hadn't joined in on the game but she sat down with them to observe the game. MaSha was skillful with the game and knew her way around many card and board games. Tigress had taught her a lot of it but MaSha improved her skills herself, coming up with tricks that wouldn't break the rules.
"You gotta teach me how to do that." Po looked at her. "Maybe then I will beat Tigress."
"Yeah, good luck with that one." Tigress rolled her eyes.
"Even if I do show you them, Tigress knows my strategy. The odds of you winning against her are very low, Dragon Warrior." MaSha informed him. "Still, she can't win against me." She laughed, making Tigress smile.
"Really?" Po looked at her.
"Admittedly, MaSha will always find a way to win against me." Tigress sighed. "She's a smart girl."
"The smartest." Yang smiled at MaSha, making the young teen blush slightly.
"So, would you teach me MaSha?" Po asked excitedly.
"Sure, Dragon Warrior." MaSha agreed.
"Yes!" Po smiled with a celebratory fist bump.
A few days later, Tigress sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror. The day her little sister would be turning sixteen and would receive her title had finally arrived. Her little sister wasn't so little anymore though. She watched her grow from the hurt little child to a recovering woman. MaSha had even managed to trust someone that wasn't Tigress.
She was quite happy that she even started giving Po a chance as well. Though, there was still a lot of growing to do with him. Tigress had always known MaSha was not going to like Po very easily. She was sure that by the end of their visit, she would still have a distrust towards him. Tigress looked over at her bed, where the present for her MaSha laid wrapped neatly in tissue paper. She hoped her sister liked the gift, knowing how much MaSha wanted it since she was little. She remembered how many times MaSha asked for it.
Flashback
MaSha walked beside Tigress, holding her paw as if her life depended on it. When she let go Tigress nearly panicked when she couldn't feel her grasp. Luckily looking back she sighed in relief seeing MaSha had stopped in front of a stall with all sorts of fabrics and an older goat working on a blue vest stitched with a golden dragon.
"Can I have that LiMei?" MaSha asked, using Tigress's birth name.
"I'm not sure it's for sale yet MaSha." Tigress placed a paw on her shoulder. Truthfully, the fabric that it was made of seemed to be on the more expensive side. Tigress couldn't really afford much as Masters didn't make much money.
"Well, can I have it when it is for sale?" MaSha looked up at her with pleading eyes.
"Perhaps when you're older, okay?" Tigress smiled. "It will fit you better then." MaSha smiled brightly at the answer. She took a look at the vest one last time before taking Tigress's hand once again and walked away.
End of Flashback
Tigress smiled at the memory. MaSha had only been eight years old at the time and had recovered from some of her injuries, allowing her to move around. She was looking forward to seeing the smile on MaSha's face when she opened her gift.
"Tigress?" Po knocked on her door softly. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah." Tigress picked up the gift and headed to her door, opening it. Po smiled seeing her, he had bought himself a brand new pair of shorts for the occasion. "Let's go." Tigress smiled.
It's almost the end. Dang.
