Chapter 42
"Uh… Peng? We've got a problem," Killer said.
Penguin looked at him from his position on Killer's bed, this time the look in his eyes was definitely scared, more so than when they were interrupted by the doorbell. "What? Why?"
Killer pointed at the window. "I'm pretty sure that's your dad at the door."
"What?!" Penguin whispered. He quickly got up and walked over to look out of the window, making sure he was hidden from view for anyone who might look back – he was still naked, after all. "Fuck," he said, when he saw the car as well. His face had gone white. "I'm not here."
Killer let his eyes run over Penguin's body, his cock still very much hard, and bit his lip. He really wanted to continue what they had been doing, but if Law was here, they couldn't just ignore him, could they?
The doorbell rang again, removing any trace of doubt that was left.
"What am I supposed to do?" Killer hissed.
"I don't know! Greet him? Tell him I'm not here?" Penguin sat back on the bed. "Send him away and come back here?"
"It's your father! Why do I need to deal with him?" Killer whispered frantically. There was no way he could face Law. He would see right through him. Besides, Killer hadn't forgotten how Penguin had told his father about not using a condom. He was terrified of facing Law.
"He knows you're grounded, so he knows you're home; you can't hide from him!" Penguin said, also sounding in panic.
There was a loud knocking on the front door now. Killer took a deep breath. Penguin was right, he couldn't hide, and apparently Law wasn't planning to leave. He looked at his hands and ran towards the bathroom – he had to wash them before touching anything else. He found a shirt lying around near the laundry basket, grabbed it, and quickly put it on. His heart was beating loudly in his chest, but he was trying to put on his best poker face while he walked down the stairs.
Through the small window in the front door, he could see it was indeed Law, who was waiting for him. He looked downright pissed. Killer tried to put on his most surprised look when he saw him, but he failed miserably. He had no idea how to look surprised if he wasn't actually surprised.
"Law!" he said, nevertheless, as if he hadn't expected him. "I can't open the door. I don't have my keys." Killer spoke loudly, hoping Law would hear him through the door.
It seemed like he did, because Law stared intently at him for a few seconds. If looks could kill, Killer would have been six feet underground already. Then Law pointed sidewards. "Open a window."
Killer nodded, and walked towards the living room, at the front of the house, the side Law had pointed at. Law was already waiting at the first openable window, and Killer knew he didn't have a choice. If he wouldn't open the window, he would probably never be allowed to see Penguin again. He swallowed and opened it.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Killer tried as casual as possible.
Law stared him down. "Get Penguin down here, right now." His tone didn't leave room for discussion.
Killer's stomach turned. Law was obviously very angry, and his anger was directed at Killer, at least in part. Fuck.
"What are you talking about?" Killer tried to save both Penguin and himself. "Penguin isn't here."
"How dare you lie to me, Killer."
Oh God, Law was going to murder him.
"I saw his coat over the heater in the kitchen. Now will you get him, or do I need to come in and drag him out myself?" Law's eyes shot fire.
All color had left Killer's face, and he swallowed hard. He nodded. "I'll get him." He took a few steps back. "But, like… come in anyway. You don't need to wait outside." He said it out of politeness, out of hope of saving a tiny bit of his ass, but also out of hope that none of the neighbors would catch on to what was happening.
Law didn't wait, and climbed inside, while Killer quickly made his way upstairs again. He entered his bedroom, and quickly closed the door behind him. He looked at Penguin, who was sitting on his bed, clothed in just Killer's open shirt and his boxers – at least he'd had a mind to put on his underwear.
Killer leaned with his back against the door. "It was nice knowing you."
Penguin looked at him with big eyes. "What do you mean? What happened?"
Killer felt sick. "Your father is waiting for you downstairs."
"What?! You only had to tell him I wasn't here!"
"I did! I lied to his fucking face, Penguin!" Killer pulled his hair. "I lied to your father! He didn't buy it for a second, and now he's gonna kill me."
Penguin didn't speak, and just stared at him in horror for a few seconds.
"Just put some clothes on and go downstairs, Peng, before he comes up here!"
Penguin's look became even more terrified. "My clothes are still downstairs where you put them on the heater."
Well, that was it. Killer was glad he could spend his last moments alive with Penguin, though. He groaned. "Then put my pants back on and button up the shirt, so it at least looks as if you were wearing something, when he arrived." Killer sighed. "You'll just have to change clothes later, when you've retrieved them. Or keep my clothes, and change at home, whatever. I don't wear them anymore, anyway."
Penguin nodded and quickly put Killer's sweatpants back on. While he was buttoning up the shirt, Killer grabbed his bag and put all the plugs, condoms and lube back inside. The end of the world would really be near if his father found one of the butt plugs lying around. He zipped up the bag and gave it to Penguin, and then he wrapped his arm around him and pulled his boyfriend close.
"I'll fix this," Penguin tried to reassure him, but he didn't sound too sure of it himself. "He's probably madder at me than he is at you."
Killer hugged him tightly. "I don't think it matters if he decides I'm not good enough for you anymore."
Penguin snorted. "He won't. He's just a little angry, it will pass."
When Penguin looked up at him, Killer kissed him on his lips. "I love you."
"I love you too," Penguin answered, smiling. He took a deep breath. "Okay, let's face him."
Penguin led the way down the stairs. He was feeling sorry for Killer, for having to deal with his angry father. It was Penguin's fault he was angry, Penguin knew that, but apparently Killer felt like he was angry at him. Penguin also felt a little guilty for making Killer face him first. He would be a man now, and face his father's wrath head-on. He just really hoped Law wouldn't notice that he had drunk alcohol, because he was definitely feeling it.
Penguin swallowed hard before opening the door to the living room. He found Law sitting on the couch, his arms crossed in front of his chest, and his foot tapping impatiently on the floor. He stared at his son with a look that made Penguin want to flee with his tail between his legs. Law was never violent, but when he got really angry, it was terrifying, nonetheless.
"Care to explain why you're not at school?" Law asked, his tone ice cold.
Penguin shivered, and grabbed Killer's hand. "I missed Killer." There really was no point in trying to come up with some sort of excuse. Even if he could think of a good enough reason to skip school and be here, Law would never fall for it.
"And?" Law asked, not accepting that as an explanation.
Penguin didn't know what to say. He knew he had already lost the battle before it even started, as he could give no answer that would satisfy his father.
When Law didn't get an answer out of his son, his eyes shifted to Killer. Penguin noticed this, and quickly stepped in front of his boyfriend. "I thought it was more important to be with Killer today than it was to be at school. Don't blame Killer for something I have done."
Law quirked an eyebrow. "I'm glad you are taking responsibility of your own actions, but Killer should have known better too. Both for your sake, and for his own, because he knows he isn't allowed to have anyone over. I wonder what his father will say when he finds out…"
Penguin heard Killer inhale sharply.
"He won't find out, because you're not gonna tell him," Penguin stated.
"What makes you think that?" Law's voice was still terrifyingly calm.
Penguin didn't budge. "You promised not to tell him about Killer and me, so you can't tell him I was here."
"I can tell him you were here without telling him why you were here," Law said without giving any hint that he was joking.
"Please, Law, please don't tell him," Killer begged him. "He'll find out why."
Law shrugged. "Not my problem."
Shit, he must have been really angry to talk to Killer like that.
Even though Penguin knew it wasn't the smartest move, he turned his back towards his father in favor of facing Killer. "I won't let him do that," he said quietly. He wanted to kiss Killer, but when Killer didn't lean down, his eyes shifting towards Law again, Penguin stood on tiptoe so he could reach his lips anyway.
"Penguin, it's time we go," Law spoke harshly. "I think it's better if you two don't see each other for a while."
Penguin turned around briskly again, his hand on the side of Killer's thigh in an almost protective manner. "You can't say that! We're in love, you can't keep us apart!"
Law snorted hard, his icy stare broken by amusement. "You're in love?!"
Penguin felt Killer's arm wrap around his shoulder, pulling him against his chest. "Yes," they answered in unison.
Law still seemed amused. He huffed. "When's the wedding?" he asked mockingly.
"Next week, and you're not invited," Penguin stared angrily at his father. There was no reason for Law to make fun of them.
Law's face became more serious again, but it missed the coldness it had had before. "Get your clothes, we're leaving now."
Penguin blushed when he realized his father had noticed he was wearing Killer's clothes, but quickly came into action, and started collecting his clothes from the heaters Killer had placed them on. He left Killer and Law to stare at each other in silence. The longer the silence lasted, the heavier it became, and the quicker Penguin grabbed his things.
"Okay, got everything," he announced. As Law got up from the couch, Penguin walked towards his boyfriend. "I'll see you," he said quietly, giving him a peck on the lips again. "Don't worry."
Law had opened the window through which he'd come in again. "Do worry," he said. He waved his hand in a way to show Penguin he should hurry up and get through the window.
"Dad…" Penguin gritted his teeth, but realized he had no other option than to obey his father. He climbed out of the window with his coat and cap on, and his clothes in his hands – fortunately, it had stopped raining. Law followed him, and immediately walked towards their car. Penguin cast a look over his shoulder, and saw Killer close the window with a worried look on his face. Penguin tried to smile reassuringly at him, but managed nothing more than a sad pull upwards with the corners of his lips.
"Get in," Law said, but didn't wait for Penguin to get inside the car before he got into the driver's seat himself. Penguin realized he must have come here straight out of work, or he probably wouldn't have come here by car.
Penguin got into the passenger seat, quickly stuffed his clothes inside his backpack, and dropped the bag between his legs. He was glad his mind, foggy from the alcohol, was starting to clear up a bit at least. It didn't seem like his father had noticed anything.
When they both sat down with the doors closed, Law gave him a long and hard look. "What were you thinking?"
Penguin looked down and shrugged.
Law sighed, and started the engine. "Killer has a bad influence on you. You've never skipped school before… or have you?" He drove off into the direction of their home.
"No!" Penguin was quick to defend himself. "But that's got nothing to do with Killer! I mean…" Penguin realized how stupid that sounded. "It's not his fault! If it was anyone else I had fallen in love with, I would have done the same thing." He looked pleading at his father. "Please, don't blame Killer and please, don't tell his dad?" He felt the beginning of tears welling up in his eyes, but he took a deep breath. He would not cry, dammit. It just hurt that Law had called Killer a bad influence. Killer was the best damn thing that had ever happened to him!
Law stared at the road before him, and then he held up his right hand. "Give me your phone."
Penguin looked confused at him. "What? Why?"
"Give me your phone," Law repeated without explaining himself.
Grumbling, Penguin handed over his phone. Law immediately tucked it away in the pocket of his hoody. "I won't tell Eustass."
"Why did you need my phone to say that?" Penguin asked confused, but he was relieved his father wouldn't tell Kid.
"I don't want you to tell Killer." Law's mouth turned into a small smirk. "Let him sweat a little."
"That's mean!" Penguin commented. Still, he was happy that at least Law wouldn't say anything.
"Yeah, well, you still skipped school to be with him, so I think he deserves that. Just as you deserve to be grounded until Monday too."
Penguin sighed, defeated. It wasn't like he hadn't seen that coming. Until Monday wasn't too bad…
"And that also means no phone and no Wi-Fi."
"What?! What the hell am I supposed to be doing tomorrow and the whole weekend then?"
Law snorted. "I didn't have a smartphone when I was your age. What do you think I did to spend the time back then?"
Penguin glared at him. "Get your knuckles tattooed."
Law chuckled. "Fair enough. You want that too?"
Penguin crossed his arms. "No, thanks."
"I meant reading a book," Law clarified.
Penguin sighed. He guessed it couldn't be helped. It was a good excuse to read that book he'd been wanting to read for a while now. Besides, he could draw too.
His mind drifted back to Killer. He was sad he couldn't even talk to him anymore for the next three days. After a few moments of silence, Penguin carefully asked his father, "How- how did you find out? How did you know where I was?"
Law glanced at him and raised his eyebrows. "You're not the smartest person I know. You remembered to remove the e-mail you sent from my address from my sent items, but you didn't stop to think that they might send an e-mail back? And that I receive my e-mail on my phone as well?"
Penguin groaned. How could he not have thought about that?
"At the end of my shift I read their reply in which they told me to call next time my son was ill. I obviously let them know that I never sent that e-mail, that that must have been you. After that, I immediately went to Eustass' house. There really was only one place you could be if you skipped school."
Penguin stared at him in disbelieve. "You didn't actually tell school it was me, right?"
"I did," Law said, his face serious. "You have detention tomorrow and the whole of next week, by the way."
