Day 6: Embers
Sasuke was cool.
Chill. Frosty. Arctic cold.
Even when that bowl-cut moron did that stupid heart thing at his Sakura.
Sakura. Not his Sakura. They were just childhood friends. Like… siblings
Together from the womb, since their mothers had met in a baby and me session, along with that idiot's mom. Aunt Kushina still liked to tell the story about how baby Naruto had swum away from her, right between his mom's and aunt Mebuki's larger stomachs, and the rest, as they always said, was history. So yeah. They were like siblings.
That must be why Sasuke felt such strong big brother instincts go on high alert when that dog-boy jammed his thumb in practice, and Sakura had gone over to patch him up. It was just a thumb. What was he getting all coddled for? And Sakura was holding his hand. Sure she was just cleaning him up, but did she really have to touch him? She was a cheerleader, not the team medic.
Sasuke made sure to throw a super long pass to dog-boy during the game, just to make a point. When dog-boy made a touchdown and Sakura stood up with the other cheerleaders and yelled his name, though, Sasuke wasn't sure what that point was.
At the end of the game (where they'd won, duh), just as he was about to head over to the change rooms to get out of his jersey and into streetwear, he saw some random player - from the other team - approach Sakura. The dunderhead was blushing and holding a pink envelope with a heart sticker on it in-hand, which Sasuke could tell was a confession even from this far away.
Forgetting about his street clothes, he started walking towards them. In the cool evening air, her lips were practically turning blue, and this idiot wanted to make her wait even longer to get indoors and warm, just so she could reject him?
… She would reject him, wouldn't she? Sakura didn't even know the dude. But…
"Sakura!" Sasuke called out, just as the moron was about to open his mouth. Sakura broke off mid-conversation with her best friend, the other blond one, and she turned towards him with her usual sunny smile. She didn't even notice the loser from the other team.
Good.
"Want to go home together?" Sasuke asked.
Okay, he might not be as cool as he thought he was.
AN: I have to confess, I don't know the first thing about football. Any inaccuracies are wholly my responsibility. That sketch AU from Jyacira was just too good - when I saw today's prompt I just knew I had to do this! Enjoy~
