"So do you know what happened to you, Kane?", Porlyusica asked.

"I'm trying to remember, but I just can't figure out what happened. All I know is that I had this strange dream I can't even explain in words, and then I'm here.", Kane replied, massaging his head.

"Well, you must remember where you're from?"

"I'm trying. I..I just can't. I don't remember anything at all!", Kane replied with a mixture of confusion and agitation. "I can't even figure out what my last name is.", the blue haired boy said. "Damn it, what is wrong with me?"

"Don't stress yourself any further. It seems the attack on your body was a severe one.", she continued. "I will try my best to help you recover, but do remember that regaining your memory is an uphill battle."

Kane looked dejected, as he realized that with no idea who he truly was, he might very well be alone in the world. Putting his head into his hands, he thought about what he would do. Until he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry about it, Kane! I bet you'll remember everything very soon!", Laxus said. "Till then, you can come stay with me and my Gramps at the Guild!"

"Guild?", Kane asked curiously.

"Yeah. I'm in a Magic Guild in Magnolia. You might have heard of it. It's called Fairy Tail.", Laxus said, sounding proud enough that it could almost count as bragging. But his answer did not satisfy Kane's curiosity, but only made him more puzzled.

"What's that?"

"What's what?"

"A Magic Guild. I've never heard of something like that before.", Kane said. "I know there are people out there who use Magic, but I don't know that they had guilds here."

"What do you mean? Guilds have been around for years!", the Lightning Mage exclaimed. He shot a look at Porlyusica, who was as befuddled by Kane's revelation.

"That doesn't feel..right.", Kane murmured. "I didn't know there were that many Mages out there."

"But from what I can see, you may be a Mage yourself.", Porlyusica said, surprising Kane. "Or at least someone who could be one, with the right training."

"Really?", Kane asked. "I can't believe that. I don't even know how Magic works."

"Yes. Magic is nothing but our soul manifesting. What seems to have happened here is that you were attacked by someone- or something so powerful it may have very well fractured your soul.", she continued, solemnly. "I've never seen something quite like this before. It's a miracle you even survived."

Kane was astonished, and a little unnerved when he heard her. The fact that he was a Mage, but with no memory of what he could do, as well as that he had no idea what had happened to him was a bit too much for him to handle.

"Is this why I can't remember anything?"

"I think so.", she replied. "I might need to analyze you a bit more while you heal."

Sighing, Kane sat down on a chair, processing all the information he'd just received. "I wonder what happened to me.", he muttered. Sensing the blue haired boy's confusion, Laxus tried to cheer him up.

"Don't worry about it, dude!", Laxus said with a wide grin, slapping Kane's back. "I bet when we find the guy who did this, we're gonna kick his ass!"

"Argh!", the heavily injured preteen exclaimed, as Laxus retracted his hand. Before he could apologize, Laxus felt the flat of a palm swiftly come down on his head.

"Are you out of your mind?", Porlyusica scolded him, vexed by his mistake. "If you cannot behave in a civil manner, it would be best for you to leave!"

"Sorry, I di-", Laxus apologized, but the healing Mage would have none of it, as she grew even angrier at his attempt at forgiveness.

"Leave. Now.", she said. Laxus knew it wasn't worth angering the elderly Mage, and left, but not without scowling.

"He's as ridiculous as his grandfather.", she said under her breath. "This is why I hate humans."

"But aren't you a human as well?", Kane asked, slightly puzzled at her choice of insult. "That doesn't make a lot of sense."

The woman glared at him, and Kane knew it was time for him to shut up. Laxus's slap was harder than he'd expected, and he was still wincing from the pain. Getting up, he walked to the bed. As he turned around, he looked at the old woman still miffed.

"I hope I'm not being a bother.", he said sincerely. "I'll get out of your hair if you need me to."

"Don't even think about that."

Kane shrugged his shoulders, knowing that was that. Grimacing as he lay down, he closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep. Thankfully, he slept much soundly this time around, and without a single hint of a dream.

Porlyusica looked at the sleeping boy, with compassion. Having worked as both a Mage and a Doctor, the seemingly misanthropic woman still understood others. And she knew that even if he didn't know, the boy carried sorrow in his eyes.

Over the next couple of weeks, Kane's body started to heal, until only the scars remained. Much to the chagrin of his doctor, Laxus would make several impromptu visits, often getting chased out by Porlyusica. However, Kane still enjoyed the Thunder Mage's company, and felt much more optimistic than he normally was. Eventually, he would leave her house, deciding to leave for Fairy Tail on his own.

As Kane arrived at the gates of the city of Magnolia, he looked at it in awe. Never before had he seen a place bustling with so much activity. Magnolia was not only the home to the biggest guild in the country, it also happened to be a massive trade town. Had he not been in a hurry to see Fairy Tail, Kane could have spent hours wandering the city.

Remembering the directions Porlyusica had told him, he walked, taking in the sights, until he reached his destination. And finally, he stood face to face with the large building that Fairy Tail called their home. Taking almost reluctant steps towards the building, he pondered about what was waiting for him inside. He had never known, or at least didn't remember knowing what Mages were, and there was so much that he could expect, as he threw open the gate.

But he didn't expect to be hit in his face, and get knocked off his feet.

"Oh, shit.", he muttered, his vision groggy, as he slowly stood up on his feet. Groaning, he clutched his forehead, as he walked back inside, finally getting a good look at what was happening inside. And just like the shot that hit him, Kane hadn't expected the utter pandemonium inside. As far as he could see, people were fighting and swearing. What was playing out inside felt less like what a guild should be, and more like a tavern. He thought about stepping back, thinking he might have come to the wrong place. But just as he took a step back, something caused him to freeze.

"SILENCE!", a loud, booming voice caused everybody inside to stop what they were doing, as a man- no, a gigantic monster, over ten feet tall appeared out of nowhere, looking at them all with what looked like unparalleled fury. Kane gulped, as he saw the behemoth walking across the guild hall, needing just a few steps forward to cross it. "DO YOU FOOLS HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT IS TO RUN A GUILD, AND ESPECIALLY ONE WITH ALL OF YOU GIVING MORE AND MORE REASONS TO THE MAGIC COUNCIL TO COME AND SHUT US DOWN?"

A spine chilling silence set in, with not one of the Mages who had just been wildly brawling with each other daring to utter a word. 'Run a guild? Does..Does that mean this is the Master, Laxus's Grandfather?', Kane thought to himself, looking at the giant with awe and fear, hoping he wouldn't be noticed.

"AND YOU KNOW WHAT I, MAKAROV DREYAR THINK OF THAT?", the massive man asked, before activating-or more correctly deactivating a spell. Shrinking in size until he was barely four feet tall, the old man stood there, decked in brightly colored, yet casual clothing and with a bushy mustache.

"I think that the Council are a bunch of stuck up dolts! Follow your heart, and do what is right. That's what it means to be a Fairy Tail Wizard.", the Master said, before glancing at a bewildered Kane. "I haven't seen you before. Are you new here?"

"H..hello..I'm K..Kane, Laxus told me to come here.", Kane blabbered nervously.

"Ah. You must be the boy who got injured. Pleasure to meet you, young man.", the small old man, decked in bright clothing and a bushy mustache extended his hand. Kane who had no idea what he just saw, slowly shook it. "Laxus went out on a mission, he'll be back in the evening."

"P..Pleasure's all mine, sir.", Kane said, grinning, still a bit jittery.

"Now, you don't have to be so jittery, son!", the old man said with a cheerful expression. "Laxus told me all about it. You're free to stay here as long as you like."

"That's really kind of you, but there's a problem.", Kane replied. "I don't know magic, at all."

"Is that so?", Makarov asked, to which the dark skinned boy nodded, and to Kane's surprise, laughed heartily.

"My boy, Magic just isn't about turning yourself into a giant, or shooting fireballs from your Magic is truly about, is believing in yourself, and forming bonds that last a lifetime. And if Laxus thinks you're welcome, then you're welcome here.", he continued. "And I guess you could always learn a thing or two here."
