Kane found himself seated against the two Rune Knights who'd interrogated him the previous day. He didn't utter a word, wondering what the first question was going to be. He wondered if the previous interrogation was just them trying to get under his skin. And if it was, then it had worked. Because even though Kane appeared cool and collected, he was terrified, even though he couldn't explain why.
"I hope you didn't face any issues here, Kane?", Kinley, the older, more experienced Rune Knight said. "No.", Kane shook his head. The Rune Knight grinned, seemingly sincerely, before taking a more formal tone.
"Is it true that Master Makarov Dreyar took you in, given you have no memory of where you're from?", he asked, kindly yet sternly.
"Yes.", Kane replied, not knowing where this was going.
"I believe that you must have met, or interacted with Makarov's son, Ivan?"
"No, not much. Ivan didn't get along a lot with the Master, so he had his own place, and anyway he didn't stay in Magnolia long."
"We did some digging of our own, given that's our job.", Kinley laughed at his own joke. "We found that you left Fairy Tail only a month after Ivan Dreyar did."
"I left on my own terms. Ivan was excommunicated, and I barely ever knew him.", Kane said, agitated by the accusation. "And we weren't buddies."
"I see."
And even though Ivan was a figure much disliked not just by Kane, but almost everyone else at Fairy Tail, Kane owed him. And that was because Ivan, although indirectly got him into Fairy Tail.

More than a month had gone by, after Porlyusica's diagnosis. Kane had come to terms with it, but it still stung a little. And he certainly didn't make things any better after taking a job at Fairy Tail, although he was working in the library. The guild members didn't show up much, but he still felt stuck there, watching them go on all the adventures he could have, if he wasn't the way he was. But it was the only one he could get, and even though the master doubted he could pull it off, Kane managed to convince him.
Often, Kane would ask them what they did, and while some would just give him a brief version, most would go on for minutes, about the places they visited, the monsters they fought, and the fun they had.
It did not make him feel better about himself.
And although the blue haired boy, perhaps only eleven or twelve years of age was extremely unqualified for his job of being a librarian, especially one as massive as this one, he was relieved to know he didn't have to run around making sure all the books were accounted for. And he didn't care much for the books either, unless they had some racier content, an opinion he shared with most of the other men and boys who came there.
And just like every other day, Kane was sleeping on the job when a man he had never seen before walked in.
"I don't think you're paid to sleep, boy!", he gruffly said, as Kane opened his eyes.
"Oh, sorry, I.. did you have something to issue or what?", the boy said, still half-asleep. The man was not amused, and shook him awake. Now that his eyes were wide open, Kane looked at the man. He was probably in his mid thirties, and had black hair and tanned skin. But what stood out most about him was his beard.
"I hope that's all you need to wake up. Now listen, and listen good. What I have brought here with me, is a very, very valuable possession.", he said, revealing a small book, with a black cover, and an lined with gold. "The information in it is highly confidential, and nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody should know this book is in this library. Do you understand?"
"Okay.", Kane said. "Is that like a magic book, cause you probably will need the master's permission for that." The man just looked at Kane and scoffed, as he left with it. Kane was about to go back to sleep when he saw Laxus walk in.
"So, how's it going? Being the official Librarian of Fairy Tail, and all?"
"I have no clue why Master gave this job to me.", Kane said with a grin. "I mean, it's better than working in the kitchens, and you guys probably use Magic to make that stuff anyway."
"No, we actually don't.", Laxus said, laughing. "It tastes better when you make food normally."
"But yeah, it's boring but it's easy." Kane said. "Some jerk just walked in rambling about something, he's probably still inside. Over there.", he said, pointing to the bearded man, who was walking back, probably after having kept his special little book back.
"Dad?", Laxus said, immeditely recognizing the figure. The stranger was surprised to see the young Lightning Mage as well.
"DAD?", Kane exclaimed, as he realized that the visitor was Ivan Dreyar, Makarov's son and Laxus's father. But in all fairness, Ivan didn't resemble either of them. And the lack of resemblance just wasn't physical. Laxus and the Master were welcoming, as compared to this man, who was a bit creepy.
"Hello, son.", the man said, with a wolf like smile, before turning his gaze to Kane. "You know this kid?"
"Yeah, this is Kane, he's been living with us.", Laxus said, as his father raised an eyebrow. "Kane, this is my dad, Ivan."
"I uh, wanted to join as a Mage, but couldn't.", Kane shrugged his shoulders, trying to hide his shame. Ivan looked dismissively at the boy, before muttering. "Tough luck."
And with that, he walked away.
"My dad's a man of few words.", Laxus said. "But he's always been that way." Kane nodded, but he could tell there was something fishy about the elder Dreyar. However, he wasn't going to bother sticking his nose into matters that didn't concern him.
Later that night, Kane shut the library, and walked back home. He disliked the job as much as he was unsuitable for it, but everybody was kind, and he felt that this is the least he owed to the Dreyars. He couldn't remember anything about his own family, and this was probably the next best thing, so he wanted to make them as proud as he
When he knocked on the door, there stood Ivan. Shocked, he took a step backwards. As opposed to the intimidating aura he had in the library, Ivan was much more relaxed here. But Kane still felt intimidated by him.
"Ah, Laxus told me that you lived with us."
"Yeah."
"So what about your own family?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"Yeah, I just don't remember anything before the past month or so.", Kane replied. "So can I come in?"
"Sure."
"Where are Gramps and Laxus?"
"They'll be here shortly. So tell me about yourself, Kane."
"I don't know anything at all, sir. Just woke up in a hospital bed, and there I was."
"So you didn't try to find anything about your old life?"
"Well, I tried for a couple days, then I gave up, and being a Mage seemed to be a lot more fun than whatever happened to me.", Kane said wistfully.
"If you wanted to be a Mage, why aren't you one? My father will take in almost anybody."
"I can't use Magic. Porlyusica told me there's something wrong with my body, and Magic can't flow through it or whatever. I guess I'm just glad to be a part of Fairy Tail, as insignificant as it is."
"I guess my-", Ivan was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Thinking it was Laxus or Makarov, Kane rushed to open it, even as Ivan tried to stop him. When he did, standing in front of him were three people he'd never seen before. A thin, nearly emaciated man, a woman and a much larger man, all in dark cloaks.
"Who are you?", he asked.
"Friends of Ivan's.", the thin man said, as he looked at Ivan, standing behind the boy. Kane turned around to see the older Mage, who looked rattled to see the visitors.
"There must be a mistake. I don't know any of you.", Ivan replied, as he clenched his fists.
"We just met in Opal, Ivan. And you took something I own. What sort of friend does that?"
"I have no clue what you're talking about."
"Yes, you do."
"Get out of my house."
"I'm running out of patience, Ivan."
"Get out of here, Rhett. Now."
"I tried to play nice. Clearly you don't appreciate that. Last chance. Where's the Testament?"
Ivan looked angrily, as Kane opened his mouth to ask who the people at the door were. He was a bit weary of Ivan himself, and these strangers showing up clearly didn't help. But before he could say anything, he was grabbed from behind by the large man.
"What the- Let go!"
"Give us the book, right now, or the kid gets it."
Kane looked desparately at Ivan, as he realized what book they were talking about. Was it the same book from that very morning? It had to be, given the circumstances. But Kane had bigger problems, such as how to escape the giant's grip, as his fingers dug into the blue haired boy's neck. He screamed, as he tried to get away. But Ivan refusued to give in.
"You think we're bluffing?", the big man said. "I don't want to do this."
"Then don't. You don't have the guts anyway.", Ivan finally spoke up. Kane's eyes widened, as he looked at the man grin almost sadistically, daring the group. He felt the giant's grip loosen.
"You're right, Bjorn doesn't. But I do.", the woman spoke up. She was wearing a dark cloak, and as Kane could see, she had dirty blonde hair. But before he could see anything, she simply whispered. Before he could react, a strong gust of wind sent him flying, and as he flailed around frantically, he was brought crashing down to the surface. Kane groaned in pain, thinking he had probably lost a tooth.
"Suzanne, you didn't have to do that."
"Didn't I? Seems Ivan does realize I'm serious finally, although at the cost of this poor kid."
