Day 18: Breezes and Bites

"Harder, Sakura."

Sakura tried, she really did. But Sasuke's neck was too damn thick!

As a new vampire, feeding on her sire should have been easy. Should have. Like a hamster gnawing at a sunflower seed, she tried to drive her newly acquired fangs deeper into Sasuke-kun's neck, but all she got was two measly trickles of blood in her mouth.

Shannaro! You can do it, Sakura! In desperation, she closed her lips on Sasuke's neck and sucked as hard as she could, desperate to draw in more.

Sasuke jerked away from her. Surprised, Sakura cried out as her fangs popped free of his muscle. It wasn't painful, per se, but Sasuke instinctively reached for her.

"I'm okay!" Sakura managed, her eyes watering a bit. "I just… I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this!"

Sasuke knew siring another vampire at his age would be a bad idea. His blood did not move easily, which made him a very efficient terror of the night but a very ineffective sire. But when she'd lain there, bloody and broken, the light fading from those emerald eyes, he hadn't been able to face a world without her.

Funny how she'd managed to work her way into his heart after a few short years - Sasuke had once convinced himself that he'd be able to let her go after a few decades. Now, he knew he'd been deluding himself.

"It's not you, it's me," He finally sighed. "You'll have to try enthralling other mortal men so you can feed off them. Your first feed must be from something sentient. The more powerful, the better."

Sakura instinctively shuddered at the thought, but under his implacable gaze, she squared her shoulders anyways and asked, "How do I do that?"

"Think about something your target might desire, and then think about how you can twist it into something you want. It has to be something they truly want for you to be able to manipulate it," Sasuke explained. "While all humans are different, some desires are common. That's why cis-heterosexual men are the easiest for new vampires who look like women."

"Oh," Sakura looked intrigued. Sasuke tried to ignore the jealousy stabbing his heart like an icepick.

"Then make eye contact and channel your vampire power that we talked about earlier through that connection."

"Something like this?" Sakura met his eyes.

"My mental shields are too strong for a new vampire like you; it would have to be an incredibly powerful desire-" Sasuke started to explain, not wanting her to be discouraged when her first attempt inevitably failed; all of a sudden, his vocal cords would not obey him as he fell into her eyes.

They suddenly flared an unearthly green, more terrifying than the abyss and more beautiful than the stars. For those eyes, he would do anything: take the moon down from the heavens, lay the world to waste, bare his soul for her inspection. A little bit of blood was nothing. Eager to please her, the very blood in his body, stagnant for so long, suddenly started circulating.

"Sasuke-kun? Are you okay?" A light touch against his suddenly flushed cheek. He was better than okay, euphoric even. He'd be better if she just -

Her hand briefly passed over his eyes as she went to feel his forehead, breaking their connection in the process. It brought him back to his senses but also left him feeling oddly empty.

"You don't feel warm," Sakura frowned, unaware of the monumental feat she had just performed on the Uchiha Sasuke, an infamous iceblock in the vampire community.

"I'm fine," Sasuke pulled away from her hand, "Let's try that feeding again."

AN: *cough* Yes I am going to finish this project, why do you ask?

Lol. Well, I tried, but real life gets in the way. Anyways now that SasuSaku month is over, I'm going to be a bit more sporadic on finishing these. Still, I hope you enjoy reading them as I come out with them. Special thanks to DemyxDancer for being both inspiration and beta on this ficlet (I blame you for the vampire bug - we just gotta hope this doesn't morph into more fics).
