Chapter 2: Dodge Bullet
"Frisk. Frisk dear, it's time to wake up." Called Toriel as she entered Frisk's room. Frisk grumbled as she woke up. She is a lot of things, but a morning person isn't one of them. "Come on Frisk, you clearly didn't have any problem getting up to eat the pie I left you." Said Toriel as she gestured to the empty plate that had previously held a slice of pie.
"What pie?" Asked Frisk genuinely confused.
"The slice of pie I left out for you last night. The whole thing's gone, so you must have eaten it." Replied Toriel.
Well, that's odd. Thought Frisk, but she decided to put it out of her mind and get ready for school.
Frisk came down the stairs a few minutes later wearing black leggings, blue shorts, a white tank top under her favorite blue and purple sweater, brown boots, and her red heart necklace. "You sure you got everything Papyrus?" Asked Sans "I know you've got a skele-ton of things to carry." Added Sans with a wink.
"YES, I'M SURE SANS. OH, FRISK, YOUR JUST IN TIME. I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAVE BEEN INVITED TO A PRESTIGIOUS EVENT AND I WILL BE GONE FOR A WEEK." Said Papyrus.
"Oh, well… I'll miss you Papyrus." Responded Frisk as she hugged Papyrus.
"I WILL MISS YOU TOO FRISK, BUT DUTY CALLS." Said Papyrus, with that he went outside and loaded his luggage into his red convertible. Then he waved goodbye to Frisk, Sans, and Toriel once more before he left.
After that Toriel drove herself, Sans, and Frisk to school. Sans would have preferred to use one of his 'short cuts' but that didn't work with three people. "Be good my child. I will see you at the end of the day for your magic lesson." Said Toriel as she hugged Frisk goodbye. The magic lesson she was referring to was that she had been teaching Frisk to use fire mage.
"I love you mom; I'll see you after school." Said Frisk as she made her way to class. The day started out fairly normal for Frisk: math class taught by Alphys, where she learned about probability, Science class taught by Sans, where Sans spent half the class asleep, and then English class taught by Toriel, where they read a book called 'The Soul Eater of Ebott' and Frisk found herself unusually mortified by it. But after lunch, things started to take an unfortunate turn.
Meanwhile
Asgore, Undyne, and Papyrus entered the large room where they were scheduled to meet with Dell Damon. "Ah, you've arrived." Said an old man with a handlebar mustache, wearing a formal suit and a top hat, as he shook the hands of the three monsters.
"IT'S A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU MR. DEMON- I MEAN DAMON!" Corrected Papyrus nervously.
"Please, call me Hel- I MEAN DELL!" Corrected Dell "Please have a seat, the meeting will begin shortly." Said Damon as he stepped outside.
"Asgore, something seems fishy about that guy." Whispered Undyne.
"Ha-ha, Undyne you worry too much." Replied Asgore.
"Is our assassin in position?" Asked Dell to his assistant.
"Yes sir, Simon will approach the monster's ambassador any minute now." Replied the assistant.
"Good, no matter how this goes down the monsters will be returned to the underground." Said Dell as he laughed menacingly.
"Now do you believe me!?" Yelled Undyne.
"WOWIE, THAT WAS REALLY SMART OF YOU UNDYNE. PLACING THE SMALL VOICE RECORDER ALPHYS GAVE YOU ON DELL WHEN HE SHOOK YOUR HAND." Praised Papyrus.
"We have to warn Frisk!" Yelled Asgore, but when he tried to open the door, he found it locked. "Uh-oh."
Frisk was now in P.E. and with Undyne being gone, Sans had volunteered to teach for the day. "Heya everyone, as you know coach Undyne isn't here today." Said Sans, gaining a disappointed 'aww' from Monster Kid. "So today, we'll be playing my favorite game… Dodge ball." As Sans finished his sentence his left eye burned blue with magic and a line of dodge balls levitated up behind him. Within minutes half the class had been hit by dodge balls and the fat kids were on the verge of tears… so all things considered a rather good gym class. "Wow, you kids must be even lazier than I am. At least I move when someone tries to hit me." Said Sans as he saw the whole class had either been hit by dodge balls or passed out from exhaustion… except. "Well, well, Frisk, it looks like you're in for a rattling bad time. I feel it in my bones." Joked Sans as he saw Frisk still hadn't been taken out, she was in a fighting stance staring down Sans with her amber eyes. "Nice glare, but it will take more than that to get under my skin." With that Sans waved his arm and sent a flurry of dodge balls at Frisk, but she dodged them all and gave Sans her signature flirting look. "Not bad, but don't get too coccyx." Joked Sans as one of the dodge balls came flying back towards Frisk's tail bone. Frisk noticed in the nick of time and jumped out of the way. Things continued this way for a while, both Sans and Frisk were exhausted, but the Frisk slipped and hit the ground. She thought she was about to be hit by dodge balls, but then noticed that Sans had fallen asleep.
"Do it." Whispered Chara.
Without thinking Frisk grabbed a dodge ball and threw it at Sans, only for him to sidestep it. "What? Did you think I was just going to stand there and take it?" Asked Sans as he threw another dodge ball at Frisk and knocked her down.
"Hehe, why don't you get some water? You look bone dry." Suggested Sans.
Frisk stepped outside to the water fountain, but while she was drinking, she heard a familiar voice behind her. "Howdy Chara!" Cheered Flowey the flower as he emerged from the ground behind Frisk.
"Asriel, I keep telling you, I'm not Chara." Replied Frisk.
"Yeah, and I'm not Asriel." Replied Flowey. "I guess we both like talking to the people we wish were here and not the ones who are."
"I guess you have a point there." Said Frisk. "So, what brings you up to the surface?"
"You won't believe it!" Cheered Flowey "Last night, I felt Chara's presence here on the surface, stronger than ever before. I've been searching for what could have caused Chara to come back but couldn't find anything. Then I remembered how similar your soul was to Chara's and figured, maybe if you did something like what Chara would do, your soul would have become even more like hers. So, I suppose I came to see if you realized the world is kill or be killed yet."
"Sorry Flowey, but if that's what you're here for, then you've come all this way for nothing." Replied Frisk
"Oh really, well while I was watching you in your English class, I noticed you got really upset." Said Flowey.
"So, it was a very moving story." Said Frisk
"You might feel that way, but that's because you don't understand the true nature of that story. Golly, I bet your wondering what I'm talking about, so let me tell you the real story, of the 'Soul Eater of Ebott'." Suggested Flowey.
"Yo Frisk!" Called Monster Kid as he stepped out from the gym. "Sans is waiting for you."
"Tell him I'll be right there, MK." Replied Frisk, MK being the nickname she had given Monster Kid. Frisk then looked down and noticed that Flowey had disappeared to avoid being seen by MK. As Frisk began to make her way back towards the door to the gym, a large man in a leather jacket approached her.
"Hey, are you Frisk Dreemurr?" Asked the large man as he approached Frisk.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" Asked Frisk
"Well Frisk, my name is Simon. I have a question for you about the monsters." Said Simon.
"Ok." Responded Frisk unsurely.
"Are all those monsters really as nice as you make them out to be?" Asked Simon.
"Of course, they are." Replied Frisk with a smile. "They may have their quirks, but they can be a lot more accepting than most humans if you give them the chance."
"That's another thing, why do you spend all your time with monsters? Wouldn't you rather be around your own kind? I'm sure you have some human family out there, right?" Asked Simon.
"No! Toriel is my mother! And I spend all my time with monsters because they're my friends." Replied Frisk, suddenly feeling unusually angry.
"You seem to be holding something against humans… why is that?" Asked Simon as his tone became a little more sinister.
Why do I feel so hostile towards them? Wondered Frisk. "It's not that I hold anything against humans, I just don't like how they treat monsters." Explained Frisk.
"Heh, you have a good heart kid. It's too bad I have to rip it out of ya." Said Simon as he pointed a gun towards Frisk.
"Wait!" Yelled Frisk, but Simon pulled the trigger, and only because of years' worth of training with Undyne, Papyrus, and Toriel was Frisk able avoid the bullet in time. As much as Frisk hated fighting, she couldn't resolve this if Simon was trying to shoot her. Creating a fire ball, just like Toriel showed her, Frisk blasted the gun out of Simon's hand. Simon hissed in pain from the burn on his hand, then pulled out two hunting knives and swung them at Frisk. However, now Frisk had no trouble avoiding Simon's attacks and she quickly moved away from him.
"You know Partner, if you let me take control this would be a lot easier for you." Said Chara.
Not happening Chara. Thought Frisk. "Simon, you don't have to do this!" Called Frisk as she dodged another swing from Simon's knife.
"Talking doesn't seem to be the answer." Narrated Chara
Frisk easily side-stepped another swing from Simon's knife. "Is that all you can do? I know little girls who can use a knife better than you. Or at least one anyway." Taunted Frisk. This only made Simon angrier and caused him to slash at Frisk even more.
"Your taunting made Simon mad. What did you expect?" Asked Chara sarcastically.
Frisk now stood between Simon and the door to the gym. Frisk gave Simon her signature flirting look, making him throw one of his knives at her. Frisk easily avoided the knife, but at that moment, MK came running out of the gym door. "Yo, what was that noi-" MK was cut off when Simon's knife struck him in the side. The little stegosaurus like monster let out a cry of pain and quick used his ice magic to freeze his wound closed, so no more of his dust would spill out of it.
"Your refusal to fight got MK injured. Maybe you should have listened to Flowey." Suggested Chara, but she very quickly realized that Frisk wasn't listening. "Alright, we'll do it my way then."
Simon approached Frisk from behind as she watched MK fall unconsciously to the ground, but as Simon prepared to stab her, he suddenly felt the air get heavy. "Do it Frisk." Said Flowey as he watched the fight from a safe distance away. "Show him it's kill or be killed."
As Simon felt the air return to normal, he prepared to strike at Frisk again, but before he could he received a very powerful blow to the stomach and was sent staggering back. H-how did she do that? Wondered Simon, before he looked at Frisk and saw her eyes had changed from amber to red. Simon raised the knife in his right arm and prepared to strike a Frisk again, but this time he froze as he heard a loud slashing sound. What happened? Wondered Simon before he looked and saw with horror that his right arm had been severed from his body. "AAAHHH! MY ARM! MY RIGHT ARM! YOU'LL PAY! YOU'LL PAY FO-" Simon was cut off when he was stuck in the side of his head.
"Hehehe, after all that big talk you sure went down easy." Said Chara as she stomped her foot down on Simon's neck. "But do not worry, I won't kill you yet. I feel like toying with you a bit more." As Chara finished talking, she lifted her foot, before quickly stomping on Simon's neck once more.
What's going on? Dell said she wouldn't even fight back! Thought Simon. She's acting like a completely different person. And why did her eyes change color? Chara then stomped on Simon's neck once more before he finally lost consciousness.
"Oh, you lost consciousness. That's too bad, I wanted to hear you scream when I took out your heart." Said Chara, before she raised a blood red knife and prepared to stab Simon. However, Frisk finally realized what was happening and as her eyes returned to their normal amber color she curled up into a ball and sobbed by the entrance to the gym.
"Frisk, what was all that noise!?" Asked Sans worriedly as he came out of the gym. Sans froze and gasped with horror at the scene, the first thing he saw was Frisk sobbing, then the gravely injured Simon, and finally Monster Kid on the ground with a knife in his side. What am I going to tell Tori? Was the first thought on Sans's mind.
"Well, that was a letdown." Said Flowey to himself as he snuck away from the scene. "Frisk fought back, but still didn't kill anyone. I should let the other guy know that Frisk still isn't anything like Chara."
