Chapter 3: The Aftermath

"Frisk, are you ok?" Asked Sans as he sat down next to Frisk and hugged her. Instead of answering, Frisk just pulled Sans closer and sobbed into his jacket. "It's alright kiddo, just tell me what happened." Said Sans

"He attacked me… he hurt MK." Whimpered Frisk.

"So, you gave him a bad time huh? Well don't worry, it sounds like you did the right thing." Said Sans.

"But MK is still hurt! And I don't even know why he attacked me… maybe I could have stopped him another way." Said Frisk.

"Whoa! Don't do anything you might regret." Said Sans. "You, MK, and even the guy who attacked you are all still alive. There's no need to reset." Frisk thought for a moment then nodded in agreement. I'd better call Tori. Thought Sans.

"I'll be back you hear me! This is not the last you've seen of Dell Damon!" Yelled Dell as he and his assistant were put into the back of a police car.

"Actually sir, you're not scheduled for a return in this story." Said Dell's assistant.

"Ok your highness, we've sent a unit to protect your ambassador, and the recording you got of Dell's confession should be enough to put him away for a long time." Said the police chief to Asgore.

"I still can't believe he thought that flimsy door could trap us." Said Asgore.

"We still need to call Frisk and tell her there's an assassin after her." Said Undyne. "Papyrus call her."

"I WOULD LOVE TO, BUT MY PHONE IS DEAD." Said Papyrus.

"I didn't bring my phone." Said Asgore.

"Uh-oh" Said Undyne.

"Oh, my child!" Cried Toriel as she kneeled down to hug Frisk, after having used her healing magic to restore MK. Soon enough a police car arrived. "That's peculiar, I haven't called the police yet." Said Toriel.

"We can explain officers." Said Sans in his usual relaxed demeanor.

After a quick explanation, one of the officers said "Well, then I suppose that man was the assassin we were sent to catch."

"Assassin?" Whimpered Frisk.

"Yes, a few of your friends overheard a plot to assassinate you and we were sent here to protect you. But it appears you took care of the problem on your own." Replied the police officer.

As the officers put Simon into the back of their squad car, Sans asked "Hey Frisk, I've got a question for ya. Where did you get that knife? From what you said that guy only had two and they're both over there."

Frisk hadn't noticed it before, but she had no idea where she had gotten the knife that she had used to fight Simon. Picking the solid red knife up off the ground, Frisk said "I'm not sure."

Knives aren't allowed on this campus, so it couldn't have just been lying around, and why does that knife remind me of Chara so much? It doesn't even look like the one she used against me. Thought Sans. "Well, we should probably give it to the police as evidence." Said Sans

After that Toriel had Sans use one of his short cuts to take Frisk home while she stayed to handle the school and explaining what happened to MK's parents.

Later

"Well, I'm relieved to hear Frisk is ok." Said Asgore, who was talking to Toriel through Papyrus's recharged phone.

"I wouldn't go so far as to say she's ok. Seeing Monster Kid gravely injured and fighting for her life, that's a lot for anyone to process. Frisk wouldn't even eat dinner tonight." Said Toriel.

"Don't worry Toriel, Frisk is a tough kid. She'll be fine." Said Undyne.

"AND I HAVE TO ASK, WHAT HAS SANS BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE TIME?" Asked Papyrus.

"Sans has been trying to cheer Frisk up, that's where he is now." Replied Toriel.

"Chin up kiddo, I know you're a little rattled right now, but everything going tibia ok." Joked Sans. "Remember, Mettaton asked me, you, and Papyrus to be on his show next week, that will be fun right?" Asked Sans.

"I guess, but…" Remembering her dream from the previous night, Frisk decided to go ahead and ask "Sans, we're friends, right?"

After a short pause, Sans replied "That's a good question. We both remember the whole… genocide incident." Frisk inwardly cringed when she heard that. "But I promised myself I would forgive you for that. I'm not sure if we're real friends or not, but I am willing to try."

"Thank you, Sans." Said Frisk.

I feel bad for not being able to call the kid a friend, but I can't shake the feeling of Chara just being an excuse for the genocide, or maybe Frisk just being Chara's way of getting us to lower our defenses. Thought Sans. If only there was a way for me to learn more about the two of 'em.

Later that night, while Sans slept in his bed, Toriel was up finishing some paperwork for her school, unaware that someone was approaching her from behind. "Mom?" Toriel heard Frisk call from nearby.

"My child? What are you doing up so late?" Asked Toriel.

"Well, I couldn't sleep, and I thought I could ask you; do you think more people will be sent after me?" Asked Frisk.

"Oh, my child, you have nothing to fea-" Toriel paused when she noticed something odd. "Why are you holding that letter opener?" Asked Toriel.

Frisk was confused at first, but then looked and saw that she was in fact holding a letter opener. "I'm not sure." Replied Frisk as she put the letter opener down.

"Well, you have nothing to fear my child. You are strong, and you have many friends to protect you." Said Toriel as she hugged Frisk. "Now get some sleep dear." As Frisk walked up the stairs Toriel couldn't shake the feeling she had seen some red in Frisk's eyes. Well, she's been crying all day. Of course her eyes are red. But why was she holding that letter opener? If I had hugged her while she was holding it, she could have- No, I need to be reasonable. It was a letter opener, not a weapon. Frisk hates hurting people. Why can't I shake the feeling that something weird is going on? Thought Toriel.

Toriel walked through the underground palace looking for Chara. "She was in quite a hurry." Said Toriel to herself, she came to a stop outside of Chara and Asriel's shared bedroom. "We have a lot of space in this palace, I still don't understand why Asriel and Chara were so insistent on staying in the same room." Thought Toriel, the door to the room was open and Toriel heard Chara muttering to herself inside. So, she hid behind the door and listened, while viewing the scene through the gap between the door hinges. Chara was staring down at a letter with a murderous glare.

"Ha, do they really think I would go back? Hahaha, I don't think so." Chara chuckled insanely as she began to tear up the letter. "I hate humans and I'm glad I don't have to be around them anymore."

"Howdy Chara!" Greeted Asriel as he entered the room.

"Hi Asriel!" Cheered Chara as she put down the remains of the letter and ran to hug Asriel.

"No matter how bad a mood Chara is in, seeing Asriel always brightens her day." Thought Toriel. Asriel and Chara then left the room and walked off. Taking her opportunity, Toriel entered the room and looked at the remains of Chara's letter. It was from Chara's father; he had thrown a letter into the underground hoping he could convince Chara to return. Chara had come to live with the Dreemurr family a week before, hadn't been formally adopted, and she never once mentioned wanting to go home. "It's strange." Thought Toriel, she walked to the window at the end of the hall and looked out at Chara and Asriel while they played together. "Those two are too close to be siblings." Thought Toriel as she saw Chara and Asriel hugging again.

"Hey Asriel, want to see a neat trick." Toriel overheard Chara saying to Asriel.

"Sure Chara." Replied Asriel.

Chara raised her right arm and pointed it straight out while opening her hand. Then suddenly a solid red knife appeared in Chara's grip.

"That knife! That's the one Frisk had!" Thought Toriel as she realized she was dreaming. The world faded to black, leaving only Toriel and Chara.

"You're my best friend Asriel." Said Chara seemingly to no one. Chara then turned to face Toriel, revealing her left eye was now solid black except for a red pupil and blood red tears running down from it. "And we'll be together, forever." Finished Chara as she threw her knife at Toriel.

Toriel woke up clutching her chest with tears in her eyes. It was just a bad dream… but, that knife Frisk had… Chara really did have one like it that day. Thought Toriel.

Meanwhile

"Ugh, why is he always late?" Asked Flowey to himself as he waited in the bed of golden flowers by the entrance to the Ruins, before a large shadowy figure entered the room. "It's about time you showed up."

"My apologies, did you locate Chara's soul?" Asked the shadowy figure.

"OF COURSE NOT!" Snapped Flowey. "That goody two shoes Frisk is still the same as ever! You must of have made a mistake about her soul being connected to Chara's."

"Hmm, Well, keep watching Frisk and let me know if anything changes." Said the shadowy figure.

"What!? I already told you-" Flowey stopped speaking when a blast of fire magic flew past his head, burning off one of his petals.

"I'm not asking Flowey." Stated the shadowy figure.

"Hehehe, HAHAHAHA! You know, Frisk may be the same, but your definitely not who you used to be." Said Flowey. "I wonder, is it really possible for people like us and Chara, to be who we were before? Ah well, I guess it doesn't matter, because fighting change… That's a wonderful idea! HAHAHAHA!"

As Flowey disappeared into the ground, the shadowy figure looked at where the flower had been and said, "Golly, that is one freaky flower."
