Chapter 17: Megalovania
"Undyne! Undyne!" Screamed Mettaton as he struggled to lift the fallen column off his ally.
"Mettaton?" Whispered Undyne as she slowly regained consciousness.
"Undyne! I can't lift this myself. I need your help." Cried Mettaton as he struggled to lift the column again.
Undyne noticed Mettaton's injured leg and how trying to lift the column was damaging it further. "Mettaton… leave, go stop Chara." Said Undyne.
"Not without you!" Yelled Mettaton. "You're the only hero here. My whole life Alphys has been telling me about how great you were. I was designed to be a human elimination robot, but I knew I would never compare to you. That's why I moved on to being a celebrity. Come on, Undyne. Be the heroine I've always believed you were." Something in Mettaton's words stuck Undyne deeply and she felt a powerful burning in her soul, until she found herself lifting the column and throwing it aside. As Mettaton saw Undyne's undying form for the first time, he said "That's more like it."
"Yeah, but for some reason this form feels… kinda underwhelming." Replied Undyne.
"What do you mean by that?" Asked Mettaton.
"I'm not sure, it's like it isn't at full power or something, but it should be enough to stop Chara." Said Undyne, and with that the two of them set off towards the ruins.
Undyne snapped back to the present as she saw Chara devouring her best friend's heart in front of the robot who had saved her life. With a mighty roar Undyne charged at Chara again.
"Y-you've… seen this… BEFORE! WHEN!?" Cried Sans as he charged at Chara with a pink bone in hand.
"What do you mean?" Asked Chara, feigning ignorance.
"DEMON! TELL ME!" Cried Sans as he used a short cut to appear right behind Chara. "WHEN DID YOU RESET!" Finished Sans as he thrusted the pink bone at Chara's head.
Chara smirked as she leaned to the side, making Sans's bone miss her and collide with Undyne, who had been approaching from the front. "I think the better question would be, at what point did you assume I hadn't already reset?" Asked Chara as she cut out Undyne's heart and devoured it the same way she had done to Alphys's. The light left Sans's eyes as he saw what he had caused; and he barely heard Chara's next comment. "Let's see how well it worked." Commented Chara, before she flicked Sans with one finger and sent him crashing into the cave's stone wall, where he was then buried under a pile of rubble. "Too bad, I guess that's what I get for getting over excited." Said Chara as she began walking towards the remaining monsters. Asgore threw several fire balls at Chara, but she easily deflected them with her knife, until she made it to the king and killed him the same way she did the others.
"P-please." Begged Toriel fearfully, before she too was killed by Chara.
"Well Papyrus? I've killed all your friends and family. What do you have to say about me now?" Asked Chara.
"I say… I'M SORRY I COULDN'T HELP YOU!" Cried Papyrus.
"What!? If you're trying to reach out to Frisk, it's not going to work!" Yelled Chara.
"NO, I'M SORRY I COULDN'T HELP YOU, CHARA." Apologized Papyrus. "I TRIED TO HELP YOU, BUT ALAS, I HAVE FAILED AT MY DUTY OF BEING YOUR COOL FRIEND. STILL, I'M GRATEFUL THAT I HAD A CHANCE TO TRY AND HELP YOU, AND FOR ALL THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO SPEND WITH YOU… EVEN IF YOU WERE TRYING KILL ME THE WHOLE TIME."
Though only Chara could see her, Frisk fell to her knees sobbing. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? I just killed your brother! And all your friends! Do you not care?" Asked Chara.
"WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT? OF COURSE, I CARE." Replied Papyrus. "BUT I KNOW THERE IS STILL GOOD IN YOU CHARA, AND THIS I SAY TO BOTH YOU AND FRISK, I FORGIVE YOU, AND I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU!"
"Shut up!" Yelled Chara as she made her creepy face and sliced Papyrus's head off.
"Well… honestly, I saw that coming, but it doesn't change a thing." Said Papyrus weakly as Chara devoured his heart. "You can still do… a little better." When Papyrus finished speaking, Chara stomped on his skull, reducing it to dust.
Chara began walking towards her body when someone grabbed her ankle. "Wait…" Said the illusion Asriel weakly.
"I'm done waiting." Replied Chara as she pulled her ankle free of Asriel's grip and he completely faded away. Chara walked up to her coffin and opened the lid. While her body was undamaged, the flowers she had held were decayed and her clothes had deteriorated from age. "Finally, let's end this." Said Chara. "Frisk, take my body to the pause menu and put the clothes I brought on it. It'll take a while before I can use it again." When Chara finished, she opened a doorway to the pause menu and pulled out the clothes she had brought from the items menu. Without a word, Frisk took Chara's body and clothes into the pause menu, which shut behind her.
Chara walked out of the ruins; unaware she had left a certain skeleton alive.
"The demon has destroyed your first soul fragment." Said the River-person as he approached Hyper-death Asriel from behind.
"I know." Replied Asriel, without turning around.
"And have you reached your decision?" Asked the River-person.
"I have…" Started Asriel before he turned to face the River-person. "I will take Chara's soul, and I will make sure we're never apart again." Stated Asriel.
Chara entered the judgement hall and was surprised to see a familiar face waiting for her. "Heya, this seems familiar, doesn't it?" Asked Sans, Chara didn't respond but instead held her knife at the ready. "Listen, I hate asking for promises as much as I hate making them, but… can you promise me one thing?" Asked Sans, Frisk watched the scene from inside the pause menu and gasped as she heard Sans's question. "Promise me when you kill me this time, you won't reset." Asked Sans.
Chara placed her hand onto a nearby save point and saved, before saying, "Hehehe, why would I reset? After I kill you and get Asriel's soul, I won't have any reason to reset anymore."
"What!?" Cried Frisk.
"Good, then for the last time; it's a beautiful day outside, birds are singing, flowers are blooming…" Sans's left eye burned blue with magic as he finished. "On days like these, kids like you, should be burning in hell."

"You know I've been thinking, about you and me. Was this preordained, was this meant to be?" Sang Sans as he pulled out Papyrus's scarf and put it on. "Somewhere deep down I, thought that you could change. Fighting means nothing, but I'll fight anyway." Sang Sans as Chara started to charge at him.
"There's not a bit of good inside, you follow the path of genocide, you're gonna have a bad time." Sang Sans as he fired two Gaster blasters at Chara, which she easily dodged. "Here I stand I must prevail." Sang Sans as he used his telekinesis to throw Chara back down the hall. "You're not gonna like what happens next, you step forward you're gonna get wrecked. For everyone I could not protect, here and now I'll end this tale." Sang Sans as he pointed his left arm at Chara and sent several bones flying at her. "Jumping all through space and time, following your own design, stopping, starting, crossing lines, 'til everything ends." Sang Sans as Chara destroyed the bones he had launched and charged at him again.
"Your determination fell, you're filled with LOVE I can tell, sold your soul and came from hell." Sang Sans as he fired several Gaster blasters at Chara. "KILLING YOUR FRIENDS!" Chara struggled to keep up with the speed the Gaster blasters fired at but managed to avoid getting hit. "I know there's no point to life, if all of this can be reset. Living day by day, but the next we might forget." Sang Sans as he lifted his arm and caused a wave of bones to shoot out of the ground, towards Chara. "No point trying to escape, the surface holds no more appeal." Sang Sans as Chara used her special move to destroy his wave of bones. "Have you ever wondered if you still are real?" Sang Sans as he used a short cut to move away from Chara when she swung her knife at him. "I've seen what comes next, paid my last respects." Sang Sans as he launched more bones at Chara. "It's long past time for, us to end this game. Guess I will fight for, the few that remain." Sang Sans as the speed of his bone attacks increased. "I will break your will, you keep fighting still, hoping for the kill." Sang Sans as he dodged a swing from Chara's knife, then pushed her back down the hall with his telekinesis. "Here I stand, here I'll stay." Sang Sans as he raised his arm and was raised into the air by a pillar of bone that came out of the ground. Sans then raised a wall of bones beside his to stop Chara from passing and summoned several bones and Gaster blasters. As Chara charged at Sans again, he launched the bones and fired the Gaster blasters. Chara dodged most of the attacks but was burned on her arm by a Gaster blaster; she then drove a red knife into the base of the bone column Sans was standing on and used it to launch herself up to the top. "Swing that thing around," Started Sans as he dodged a swing from Chara's knife and used a short cut to move back to the ground. "But you know, you're going down." Sang Sans as he used his telekinesis to throw Chara to the ground.
"Once you saw the light, once there was no fight, once you did what's right. ONCE I CALLED YOU FRIEND!" Sang Sans as he prepared more Gaster blasters. "I know somewhere you remember, they said that you could be better, that hope is a dying ember! You just want to see this end! See how far you can descend!" Sang Sans as he unleashed waves of bones and fired all his Gaster blasters. "Now we can never make amends! Kill for the sake of play, deny us light of day!" Sang Sans as Chara avoided the bones and blast then charged at him again. "So, I stand in your way, guess we're doing this the hard way. You are never gonna smile, you are heartless, you are vile. Well goodbye then fallen child, know you never had a prayer." Sang Sans as he dodged several slashes from Chara. "You are never gonna make it, your will, I am gonna break it. I will not stand there and take it." Sang Sans as he moved away from Chara panting heavily. "I can't afford not to care. I gave up hope long ago, not much point in dreams you know, when they stopped, we start this show, once upon a time." Sang Sans as he used a Gaster blaster to shield himself from Chara, then fired it sending her flying into the pillar of bone he had made earlier. "Now we stand here face to face, defiling this sacred place. I WILL NOT LET YOU ERASE, ALL SPACE AND TIME!" Sang Sans as he fired four Gaster blasters at Chara, as she barely managed to dodge them. "I hate making promises, I know that the endings the same, every single time you reset fight again." Sang Sans as Chara avoided another wave of bones he had sent. "Take it from me kid, it's time we stop this child's play." Sang Sans as he used his telekinesis to throw Chara into several walls, then blasted her with three Gaster blasters as she tried to use her knife and left arm to shield herself. "Time you learn to stop, and that day is today." Sang Sans as the smoke cleared and Chara emerged with her left arm severely burned. "Why do you still fight? Do you think you're right?" Sang Sans as Chara charged at him again. "No more bloodshed and no more violence, at the end of the day, there's just silence. You made your mistakes, simply feeding your mania." Sang Sans as he used his telekinesis to suspend Chara in the air. "But now hell awaits, when I stop Megalovania." Sang Sans before he sent Chara flying towards the right wall, but before she hit it, he used his space bending powers to put her back at the left wall. Sans repeated this several times while making walls of bones that Chara had to smash through with her knife. "So long child of man." Sang Sans as Chara finally hit the wall. "Tell them hi from Sans." Sang Sans as he fired every Gaster blaster he could make at Chara, only to have her dodge them. Sans then began rapidly throwing Chara into the walls, floor, and ceiling while singing, "You're not gonna like what happens next, you step forward your goanna get wrecked. For everyone I could not protect, here I stand I must prevail, I'm not going to turn tail. Time to stop this blood trail, here and now I'll end this tale!" When Sans finished singing, he dropped Chara from the ceiling and fell to his knees.
Chara and Sans both slowly staggered to their feet. Chara began limping towards Sans with her knife in her right hand, while Sans panted heavily, barely staying conscious. Chara swung her knife at Sans only to have him sidestep again. "Did you really think you'd be able to-" Sans was cut off when Chara changed her attack and swung the knife at Sans with her burned left hand, only to have him sidestep once more. "-get me with that same attack twice?" Finished Sans.
"You… seem pretty… mad." Panted Chara. "Do you… not care about… Frisk anymore?"
"Frisk, huh, that would be pretty convenient, wouldn't it?" Said Sans. "Do you know what I think? I think you're just a kid with a seriously messed up mind, who uses others as an excuse for your actions. I think there is no Frisk, or Chara. Whatever you are, whoever you are, I'm not going to take it easy on you, because you're not my friend."
"Wow, that's pretty dark for you." Commented Chara, but when she tried to take a step towards Sans, she realized Frisk was holding her back.
"Please Chara, just let him go! You've won!" Cried Frisk.
"Well, someone has to stay realistic. But why are you talking to me now? Normally you would just attack while I couldn't defend myself." Said Sans. Chara didn't respond, but instead seemed to be struggling to move, making Sans realize, "Wait a minute, you can't move." Sans began trying to summon a Gaster blaster to finish off Chara but found he didn't have enough power left. Tears began running from Chara's cheeks, though unlike before, these tears seemed to be washing away the blood on her face instead of making more of it. "Really, again with the crocodile te-" Sans stopped talking when Chara looked up at him, revealing the amber eyes of Frisk.
"I'm sorry Sans." Was all Frisk could manage to say, before she drove Chara's knife into her heart.
