Chapter 21: Megalo
"Howdy! It's me! Your best friend, Flowey the flower!" Cheered Flowey in greeting as Sans approached.
"Nope, sorry bud, don't know ya." Replied Sans in his usual laid-back demeanor.
"Hee-hee, that's right, you don't remember, do you?" Asked Flowey, chuckling under his breath.
"Oh, you must be my bro's secret admirer. Hate to break it to you, but he's not really into-" Sans was cut off when Flowey began to speak in a much darker tone.
"'Just give up, I did', 'I can't afford not to care anymore', 'It's hard to give it my all'." Said Flowey, quoting phrases Sans had said during the genocide run. "Oh yes, I know what you hide in that sad little soul of yours. I've heard you bare it to me more times than I can count. You see, I once had that ability, to reset. Seeing the same old friends again and again; and killing the same old enemies over and over. Soon, you just start letting time go on without you, just hoping something new will happen. I mean just look at you," Flowey had a flash back to one of the times he faced Sans in the judgement hall. "You've made me reset more than anyone… but, even you got depressing after a while. You have such a bleak outlook, even though you barely remember, it's like some sick joke. How stupid can you get?" Chuckled Flowey.
"Well, uh, everyone runs out of material sooner or later buddy, it comes with the business. Seems like some people can keep up, but as for me, well I'm no good at encores, I guess I'm just too lazy." Replied Sans as his eyes once again began burning with magic. "You see, I'm more of a 'read the audience' type of guy. Faces say a lot, and yours… well, I'm not gracing it with a description." Spat Sans. "To be honest, I only have one question for ya. If we've done this whole song and dance before, then why not just get to the point?"
Flowey seemed taken aback by this for a moment, but quickly returned to his dark yet happy demeanor. "Hee-hee, because now," Frisk was then lowered from the ceiling, with vines wrapped around her wrist keeping her suspended in the air. "There IS something new." Finished Flowey.
Sans stared up in horror at the state Frisk was in, there was a large slash on her back, her left hand was badly burned, and she was covered in many cuts and bruises. "You know, for a guy who claims he's given up on the world, you sure do care a lot about the people in it." Said Flowey. "You idiot, you've seen this world die a hundred times, and for you it's like nothing ever happened. You don't get it!" Yelled Flowey as he remembered Chara. "Only one other person gets it. And she'll have her turn, no matter how long this cry baby stalls her reset." Said Flowey, referring to Frisk. "After all, that's why you're here isn't it? To find the 'anomaly', to keep your 'promise'? Or maybe, you really do care about the brat? Even though she's just like me. HAHAHAHA, What an idiot! Well too bad, now that the comedian of this timeline has it all figured out, loading won't cut it anymore. As long as she thinks she can save everyone, even if it's someone like you, or me, she'll reset. And this time, when she does-" Flowey was cut off when Sans ripped him out of the ground with his telekinesis.
"Wow, you are one freaky flower." Said Sans. "Look, I get it, even with your new power, this isn't your call anymore, is it? It's all up to the kid. And if she thinks you're worth saving, heh, well I won't judge her for it. But it does mean that whether I take you out here, or just give up on this timeline, it won't matter. If one of us is doomed to, heh, bite the dust, it doesn't matter who it is. We're going back either way, right? So technically, I CAN afford not to care." Said Sans. "But uh… the thing is." As Sans looked up at Frisk, Flowey began rooting his stem back into the ground. "The expression that kid is wearing right now, a face like that doesn't forget." Flowey continued to grow, much bigger than before. "Buddy, get what I'm saying?" Asked Sans. "Maybe it won't change anything for me, but the thought of looking her in the face again after giving up on her… heh, I guess Papyrus is a good influence on me after all." Flowey grew into a miniaturized version of his omega form. "So, let's just get to the point. It's a beautiful day outside, kids are laughing, birds are singing, on days like these, weeds like you…" Sans raised both his hands and summoned a large Gaster blaster. "Should be growing straight to hell."
Sans's new Mega-Gaster blaster then fired a large blast of improperly mixed red and blue energy at Omega-Flowey, who responded by firing his own laser at it. Omega-Flowey's blast collided with Sans's, however it only made the red and blue energy separate, so the blue energy hit Omega-Flowey's right arm, and the red energy hit his left, making him roar in pain. Omega-Flowey then swung his left arm and sent several thorny vines flying at Sans, but Sans used a short cut to boost himself high into the air, where he pointed with his left arm and sent several bones flying at Omega-Flowey.
Omega-Flowey held up his right arm to block all the bones that were flying at him, then he swung it sending a wave of fire up at Sans. Sans summoned a Gaster blaster and used it to shield himself from the fire. Omega-Flowey then fired a sharp vine through the Gaster blaster, which then shattered to pieces, revealing that Sans was no longer behind it.
Omega-Flowey then felt something on his left arm and looked down at it to see Sans waving at him. Sans then brought his arm down and fired five Gaster blasters which hit the side of Omega-Flowey's face. Omega-Flowey then swung his right arm and tried to swat Sans, but Sans used another short cut to move back in front of Omega-Flowey. Holding out his right arm, with the power of Frisk's soul, Sans was able to summon a pink bone in almost an instant. Sans then threw the pink bone into Omega-Flowey's left arm, and when it fully activated it cut the arm clean off.
"OK, NOW I'M MAD!" Yelled Omega-Flowey, before he was hit in the forehead by another pink bone. "Ok, now I'm… dizzy." Was all Omega-Flowey could say before he collapsed to the ground.
"Now that's unbe-leaf-able." Joked Sans with a wink and a rim shot. Sans then launched two bones to cut the vines around Frisk's wrist, then he caught her with his telekinesis and lowered her to the ground.
When Sans released his telekinesis, Frisk's necklace returned from blue to red, then she fell to her hands and knees in front of him. "Heya kiddo, liste-" Sans was cut off when Frisk burst into tears and hugged him tightly.
"It's all my fault Sans! All of it! It's my fault Chara's here! I'm the one who started genocide!" Confessed Frisk as she continued to sob into Sans's shirt. "I thought I could save Chara and Asriel. I tried everything; but that stupid day in Waterfall- Sans, I'm sorry! I won't try to make excuses. I'm the one who started the genocide run."
"Hey, everything is going tibia alright kiddo." Joked Sans "To be honest, I knew you were the one responsible for the genocide run before I came here, but I still saved you, because I know that you're a good person at heart, and the fact you confessed to starting the genocide run proves it."
"But how could I have done that!?" Cried Frisk. "I care about you all so much, how did I bring myself to cause you so much pain? How do I know it won't happen again?"
"You know Frisk, I lose most of my memories after twelve resets, but I can keep memories of important events, like the first time we met." Explained Sans. "The very first time you left the ruins, when I told you to turn around and shake my hand, you broke down crying. You'd never seen a talking skeleton before, and I had to tell every joke I had to calm you down. Every part of your journey was filled with such emotion, not just determination, but as time went on, and you repeated events over and over, those emotions started to fade. You can appreciate something every time it happens, but nothing will compare to what you felt the first time. I guess what I'm saying is, resetting so much made you numb to the pain you were causing, if you don't want this to happen again, just stop resetting. Believe me, I know how great it feels, but it's not really worth it in the end."
Frisk hugged Sans tighter and her crying slowly stopped. "Thank you, Sans." Said Frisk.
"No problem kiddo, after all, we are friends." Replied Sans, making Frisk smile.
"WELL GO BE FRIENDS IN HELL!" Screamed Omega-Flowey as he finally regained consciousness and fired his laser at Frisk and Sans.
As the burning hot laser neared the two of them, Frisk realized that there wasn't enough time for Sans to use a short cut and she knew she didn't have enough power left to create a flame shield. "Thank you, for being my friend." Was all Frisk had time to say, before she quickly pushed Sans out of the way of the laser.
"Frisk!" Screamed Sans as he watched Omega-Flowey's laser completely consume her.
Chara walked through the streets of Ebott town looking for Flowey, when suddenly she felt her locket pulse. "Huh?" Wondered Chara, her locket then pulsed again, and Chara turned to face Mt. Ebott. "Oh, so he went back to the mountain, did he? How nugatory." Chuckled Chara.
Papyrus continued to search the large flower field at the base of Mt Ebott, when he suddenly felt a horrible pain in his left eye. "SANS!" Realized Papyrus, he quickly pulled out his phone and called Undyne.
Frisk felt Flowey's attack consume her entire body, she felt like she would be torn to pieces at any second, but deep in her soul, she heard a young boy's voice whisper, "Sacrificing yourself to save Sans, fills you with Justice."
Frisk felt a sudden boost of power, and when Omega-Flowey's laser had stopped, she found herself standing exactly where she was before, no more injured than she had been when the fight started.
"Frisk… You're still here." Realized Sans.
"Of course, I wouldn't want you to feel bonely." Joked Frisk.
"Heh, that's pretty humerus." Replied Sans.
"Telling jokes with Sans, fills you with Kindness." Said the voice of another young boy, making Frisk's smaller injuries begin to heal.
"THAT'S NOT RIGHT! YOU SHOULD BE DEAD!" Screamed Omega-Flowey.
"I'm sorry Flowey, but someone has to stop you." Said Frisk as she charged at Omega-Flowey.
"Standing up to Omega-Flowey, fills you with Bravery." Said the voice of a third young boy, making the slash on Frisk's back heal.
"I WON'T LET YOU WIN!" Yelled Omega-Flowey as he raised his right arm to try and crush Frisk. Frisk quickly threw up a wall of fire between herself and Flowey but was surprised when Omega-Flowey changed his attack and hit her in the side, sending her flying into a wall. Frisk struggled to her feet and charged at Omega-Flowey once again.
"Getting up after falling down, fills you with Perseverance." Said the voice of another boy, sounding slightly older than the rest, making the burns on Frisk's left-hand start to fade.
"STOP TRYING TO WIN!" Yelled Omega-Flowey as he raised his right arm to try and crush Frisk again.
Wait for it. Thought Frisk as Omega-Flowey brought his arm down. Now! Frisk then threw up a wall of fire and burned Omega-Flowey's arm
"Waiting for an opportunity to strike, fills you with Patience." Said the voice of a young girl, making the burns on Frisk's left-hand completely heal.
"JUST LET ME WIN!" Screamed Omega-Flowey.
"I can't do that Flowey, I know deep down, you're still worth saving." Replied Frisk as she used her fire magic to jump high above Omega-Flowey.
"Refusing to compromise your ideals, fills you with Integrity." Said the voice of another young girl, slightly older than the last one.
Summoning all the power from her soul traits, Frisk dove at Omega-Flowey and hit him with all the power she could. Sans had to turn his head to shield his eyes from the blinding light that came from Frisk's final attack, but as the light faded, Sans saw Frisk standing in front of an injured Flowey, but not finishing him off.
"Really? We're here again?" Asked Flowey. "At least finish me off this time." Said Flowey, but Frisk refused to attack. "What? Again? No. I don't want your mercy." Said Flowey, but Frisk refused to attack, and walked back over to Sans. "You're turning your back on me?" Asked Flowey.
"SANS!" Cried Papyrus as he ran into the room with Toriel, Asgore, Undyne, Alphys, Mettaton, and Miss Muffet right behind him.
"Heya." Greeted Sans.
Papyrus sighed in relief and asked, "SANS WHAT HAPPENED? I FELT LIKE SOMETHING BAD HAD HAPPENED TO YOU AND CALLED EVERYONE TO COME HERE."
"Well, I found Flowey and Frisk dunked on him." Replied Sans. "So, nothing to serious."
"Frisk!" Cried Toriel as she ran up and hugged Frisk. "Don't scare me like that."
"Sorry mom." Replied Frisk as she hugged Toriel back.
"Hey Mettaton, when did you get repaired?" Asked Undyne.
"And why is the Spider Bakery owner here?" Asked Alphys.
"Oh, Miss Muffet here had her spiders repair me, then she agreed to help me find Flowey." Explained Mettaton.
"Chara." Muttered Flowey, mostly to himself as he watched Frisk talk with her friends and family. "I won't let you go." Said Flowey, the group still not hearing him. "I won't let you take her." Said Flowey as vines began to emerge from the ground. "I won't… let you take… MY CHARA!" Screamed Flowey as he made his vines lash out at random. Frisk managed to avoid the vines, but the others were all tied up by the vines and being swung around the room.
"Uh oh, this is a pretty tight situation." Joked Sans as the vines squeezed harder.
"REALLY SANS? YOU'RE MAKING JOKES NOW?" Asked Papyrus.
"He's right Sans, this situation is far to F-risky." Joked Toriel.
"MY LIFE IS STILL AGONY!" Cried Papyrus.
Using her fire magic, Frisk created a flame sword and cut the vines that were holding her friends, before turning to face Flowey. "Saving your friends, fills you with Determination." This time, Frisk recognized the voices as those of the fallen children she had freed.
They're all here. They're all cheering for me. Realized Frisk as her soul filled with energy. Frisk gripped her flame sword tightly and created a flame shield on her left arm.
As both Frisk and Flowey prepared to attack, a blade of air suddenly cut through the middle of the room. "What's with that look? You dorks didn't forget about me, now did you?" Asked Chara with a chuckle as she stepped through the hole in the wall she had created with her special attack. "I have to give you credit flower, this trick room of yours was hard to find." Said Chara as she started walking towards Flowey.
"C-Chara!" Screamed Flowey.
