This author note might get annoying if you read multiple of my fics because I'm going to copy/paste it over all updates for maybe the rest of the month.
I really have been neglecting some of my fanfics for about a year and some even two years. I've decided to try to update as many as I can (or as many as I know people want to see). I'm going to be scheduling fic updates but based on the number of hits on the latest chapter (there is a way to see on fanfiction net a huge discrepancy between unique IP visitors and hits and I will make sure that no one is just continually clicking refresh on fics). Right now I am updating fics that have 75+ hits on the latest chapter. That is 49 fanfics at this present time. Once I finish the updates of all of those (hopefully before the end of the month) I will update my stat list (an Excel document) and start again. Hopefully this will explain my updates until the end of the year (although there may be a handful I write just for fun). Thank you for checking out my work. I appreciate every well-intentioned reader. Love the reviews but I still appreciate every well-intentioned reader. Thank you.
Chapter Three
3.1
Already Kurt had felt that he had been waiting too long. He reached out and tested the temperature of the medium drip, still warm. If Blaine didn't make it soon though then Kurt would have to get him another one. He took another sip of his non fat mocha. This was so nerve wracking. He wanted to know how Blaine was immediately and he kept watching the door. He would be able to tell by the way that he looked, right?
As Kurt felt a pair of eyes on him, he looked to the back of the café where he could see Rachel obviously there watching him. He rolled his eyes but as he looked towards the door again he saw his sweetheart. He smiled as he saw the neutral expression on Blaine's face and took a couple of steps towards him. "Subtle isn't she?" he asked as he tilted his head in Rachel's direction.
"Thanks for warning me," Blaine sighed and Kurt placed a hand on his upper arm.
"Do you feel like getting out of here, somewhere more secluded maybe?" he asked. He followed Blaine to the table and once he had sat down, Kurt joined him. "I might have bought the coffee a little too early," he laughed but the fear was in his eyes. "Are you able to tell me?"
"Yes," Blaine said and Kurt's mouth opened, "And yes,"
"You have it?" Kurt asked as tears began to fill up in his eyes, he quickly sniffed and brushed them away. "What does that mean? Are you going to start treatment? Medication?" he asked in a hushed tone so only the two of them could hear. "Baby," he said as he put his hand out on top of Blaine's and squeezed it, Blaine squeezed back. "This doesn't stop me from loving you. We'll get through this. I trust in you to beat it."
"Here," Blaine said as he handed over a manilla folder of hospital papers. "You're the only person I've told."
Kurt scanned the list and saw how extensive the treatment was and that Blaine's cancer was right before stage two. There was a long way to go before it was out of his system but at least it hadn't become worse. He was about to say something before hearing Rachel's footsteps and stuffed the folder between two pages of Vogue.
"Kurt," Rachel snapped, "You shouldn't pass over any notes about Glee club to our opposition. Think of the others on our team and how hard we've worked this year already."
Kurt delivered a sharp look telling her to be quiet. He made sure to place a hand firmly on top of the papers so that Rachel wouldn't be able to snatch it up and learn this extremely confidential information. "First of all," he said clearing his throat a little. "Blaine handed me the paper and not the other way around and don't worry, I wouldn't lack enough class to go trolling for the Warbler setlist. Second, we have barely even started school let alone glee club. There would be nothing to share."
Rachel frowned, "What about NYADA?" she asked with a hand on her hip. "You could tell Blaine all about our secr-" Rachel was caught off by Blaine's laughter and she raised an eyebrow. "Does that word mean something different in the gay community, I have two gay dads so -"
"If you think that the New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts is a secret then you're in for a big surprise. All of the Warblers are informed of it in our third year," he tried to explain and Rachel stared at him. Kurt's jaw dropped a little as he heard that. He had been on the Warblers for a little time during his junior year and hadn't heard of it until now. "Dalton has very good counseling and college preparation services. We're an elite private school," he said and then looked down. "I was planning on auditioning myself but -"
"It's okay to be intimidated by my enormous talent," Rachel said as Blaine's eyes went towards where the paper was that he had just given to Kurt. Kurt reached out for his hand and squeezed it.
"Audition with us," he told him. "I'll help you, we'll help each other. Lead singer of the Dalton Academy Warblers, you should have no problem getting in and I know that you're strong enough to -"
"I happen to be the lead singer of The New Directions," Rachel said with a hand on her heart not understanding the gravity of the situation. When Blaine nodded, Kurt smiled in relief before kissing him passionately.
"I am so proud of you, Blaine," he told him meaning that even though Blaine would be fighting the leukemia, he would be fighting for his future as well. He looked at Rachel who seemed to be getting a little more anxious at the idea of competing with the preppy boy. "How about I go back to your house and we can discuss this a little more," he said and Rachel coughed.
"This is no time for intimacy, Kurt. We have to prepare for the NYADA hopeful meetups in a few days. I mean, I might scare them with my enormous talent but they'll have to have a reality check of what they're in for," she said and Kurt sighed.
"Okay." He told her, "but we're bringing Blaine with us," he said and Rachel's jaw dropped. She hadn't agreed to that.
3.2
"Are you sure that you're going to be fine heating up the leftovers?" Blaine's mother asked him as he returned home. He looked at her with a nod. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Yes," he said as he turned to her. It still made him a little sad that he got along better with her than with his father. His father had never been comfortable with him being gay. On the other hand, until he had started to date Kurt or maybe just before he transferred to Dalton, she hadn't believed him and just said he was trying to steal some of the attention that his brother got.
Cooper was always Mr. Popular no matter where he went. He didn't pay that much attention to his school work and was good at some sports, basketball in particular. He was knows as suave and had dated most of the desired girls from his high school. He was a lot to live up to and Cooper would always remind him of that. Cooper though, Cooper had at least listened to him about liking guys although he had said that because he was smaller and more into theater, it didn't surprise him.
Blaine looked at his mother knowing that she wasn't aware that he had the leukemia. He took a deep breath as he tried to decide whether to tell her now or leave it until he really couldn't lie any longer. He exhaled with a sigh as he chose the second one. He was from a rich family, he had a bank account that had money shoveled into it, he could intercept all of the mail and phone calls from the doctors and health centers.
"Yes, just tired, stressed," he said with a weak laugh. "it's my senior year and I'll be applying to the different schools soon. I thought that I might go to one of the meetings for NYADA," he told her and she smiled weakly.
"New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts," she repeated aloud before shaking her head, "You are so much like your brother," she said which made Blaine shift uncomfortably. He was never going to be Cooper, he wasn't that much like his brother but at least he had always had some of the best grades at Dalton, he had been seen as a leader, someone to look up to. Someone who…probably should at least tell one other person at the school about him being sick.
Blaine was about to turn and his mother reached after him, "You will look at other schools too, right?" she asked him. "Look, I'm not going to stand in the way of you and your dream and although I feel you could get in easily, it would be completely ridiculous to not pick some safety schools. There are a lot of good schools in New York or some that are only outside of the city, You can always learn theater outside of a school setting."
"Because you want me to become an attorney or a software developer or a surgeon," Blaine rolled his eyes and his mother laughed at her.
"Just some options that we feel you'd be qualified for," she told him before seeing how exhausted he appeared. Something didn't seem right with him but she couldn't put her finger on it. She saw him look away but something didn't feel right. "How's Kurt doing?" she asked him and Blaine blinked in surprise. His father felt uncomfortable with Kurt but even with his mother it wasn't as if they had heart to heart conversations about his dating life.
"Kurt is fine," Blaine said slowly and raised an eyebrow trying to figure out what she had meant by saying that. She laughed a little. "He's still at McKinley, we had a humorous conversation really about how we're going to be rivals when it comes to the show choir competition."
"Well, I think that the Dalton Warblers are the better team," his mother said before shrugging. "But if you lose then maybe you can transfer onto the other team so that you can still compete. I don't really know how that works. I feel that even some people who are on football teams can't just automatically switch to whatever team is winning, those show choir rules never make any sense to me but they're important to you which matters."
Blaine looked at her again as he mentally asked himself whether he was sure that he didn't want to tell his mother his secret at that point. She had reached out to him out of a desire to engage him in a healthy and light hearted conversation, if she found out about the leukemia on her own it would really hurt her. Then again. She could be overly protective of him and he didn't want to hear his father make any comments behind his back of 'if he wasn't gay he might not be sick.'
Instead Blaine cleared his throat and looked up the stairs in the direction of his bedroom. "I'm going to work on some homework," he told her thinking about how Kurt had always told him that the homework and classes were harder at Dalton than McKinley, it would be bizarre if someone transferred from Dalton to McKinley and was sent down a grade. "I want to make sure to get it done so I can…check over it."
"You're such a good student. Such a moral person. Such a noble person as well," she laughed and Blaine felt a tight knot in his stomach as he reflected on how he had lied to her and just continued lying. "I wanted to let you know that your brother is going to be visiting soon, he said it was to work on his craft, whatever that means."
"Let me know the details when Coop tells you," Blaine said as he went up the stairs. Hopefully Cooper would be far too invested in himself to see that something was wrong with him. His parents probably wouldn't be able to tell through his lies but when Cooper actually paid him attention he could see through the lies and often announced loudly that he believed Blaine was lying.
There was one trick that Blaine knew to dealing with Cooper though and that was to keep him talking about himself. Just keep the conversation focused on him and nobody would be any wiser to the situation.
