Dear Desmond Sycamore,
how wonderful to receive another letter from you. However, I haven't lost sleep waiting for your reply, since I know, you always reply. A man like you should always have the privilege to be listened to, since the words you speak are filled with so much knowledge and passion. I enjoy a man with a passion, they are more interesting to me then any other man. Also, please address me by my first name alone, I'll do the same, if that's okay with you.
Well, I have always lived in London. My father always made decisions for me, mostly regarding what I can and cannot do. Right now, he dictates who I'm allowed to see and who I'm able to be friends with, which is something I don't appreciate. I'm a woman, I can make decisions like that myself. He excused it by saying that he only wants me to be safe and not stuck with someone who couldn't provide for me. Being from a rich family with kind of strict parents isn't fun, but at least I have you to talk to. My mother doesn't think much about what I do, as long as I'm happy and safe. So if you would ever meet my parents, my father might not like you at all, but he would come around, eventually.
Well, I think I figured out why I don't really like Tulips. When they die, they aren't really pretty, unlike roses or other flowers. Well, I hope we find a way to watch the sunset, maybe you'll enjoy it as much as I do. It's fine that you don't believe in soulmates. It's a silly little trope in fiction that I guess took too literal, but I can see what you mean with 'already having found yours', because I think the same. You don't have to buy me a pet Chinchilla, but it makes me happy to know that you would. You are really sweet, do you know that?
Anyway, I haven't been to a play in years, since my parents and I work so much, but I'd like to see one again. Perhaps something romantic or a comedy, but given how much I work I don't believe I could ever go and watch a play again. It would be nice to go see one together.
I guess the biggest secret I keep from my parents is that I already decided to not marry a doctor, well a physician. I understand that it's tradition to do so in my family but still, I feel like it's something that just restrains me in my own decision-making.
Well, my turn again. Though I understand that I have skipped your last question. I need time to think about it, so please don't be mad or disappointed. You'll have my answer soon. What to ask you though?
Do you think we would've met if the thing with your family didn't happen? Like, do you believe we could've met and become friends if you didn't have the name Desmond Sycamore? I like to think that, if the world wanted us to know each other, than there would've been a way for us to meet, but life works in strange ways.
Do you like to read plays or other forms of fiction? I personally enjoy reading some of Shakespeare's works, like Romeo and Juliet. But I also read other authors. I enjoy romance stories most, even those that don't have a happy ending. Maybe it's an omen? I hope not.
What is your favourite food? I think it can tell a lot about a person knowing what they like to eat most. Not only about their eating habits, but also what kind of person they are. It's quite interesting to know. Of course you don't have to answer those questions if you don't want to.
Anyway, I hope to receive a letter from you again. Those are the best part of my week, receiving a letter from you, Desmond. And one day, when you're famous, I can say that I have known you before than. I hope you won't forget me, once you're a famous archaeologist.
Sincerely,
Scarlett Alister
P.S.: I would love to have dinner with you. Maybe we can combine it with the visit to the theatre for a play, but only if we can afford it. I wouldn't want to impose and have you spend so much money on me.
