Introduction
All Omega creatures can be male or female. It does not matter what magical being or creature they are. Omega females are more common than males. Whether you are Omega or not typically depends on your personality. Like with Beta creatures Omegas don't release Pharamones as Alpha creatures do. But Omega creatures are highly receptive to them. However, it is for the ALphas benefit that after age 14, Omegas and Alphas don't room together.
Omega creatures are all looked after under the OSS no matter what their magical gifts are. This is due to the approach needed to look after them medically. Omegas are more likely to be sensitives or have trouble being treated with magic. As such, the OSS treats everyone the non-magical way. However, if they can, they do try to use magic where possible. To help with grounding Omegas and helping them when they need it most. Healers or doctors who treat Omegas are Alpha creatures. But this doesn't mean Humans, Betas or other Omegas can't. It just means they will need an Alpha medi-guard to do so.
The one downside to being an Omega many will agree is the OSS. They are the most hands-on organisation. The OSS is very strict about medical care and making sure everyone under their purview is kept healthy. No matter the department you are registered under. The only downside to this is that some Omegas or humans will avoid medical treatment. There could be multiple reasons for this and not just the OSS themselves.
To assist with getting omegas treatment, some schools have rules in place to help. One such is Magere Akademi. Magere does not stipulate which magical beings can attend. As such, they have some who attend with low immune systems. To make sure these students education is not compromised Magere demands that all sick children go to the infirmary no matter who or what they are. This ensures that growing up the Omega students get the correct treatment and allow the procedure to happen. This teaches all Omegas to accept medical help when it is needed.
Not all schools have this system. In this case, to protect the Omegas, the OSS takes a more active role. This means that all Omegas no matter where in the world they are, get the appropriate health care. The main reason for this is that Omegas are more likely to be abused and taken advantage of. So learning to accept and seek medical help at a young age is needed. Due to the OSS's approach, they have the highest success rate at spotting abused children. Their system also means that if someone comes into their creature inheritance and are rejected, then they get the care and support they need.
The children who are rejected can suffer from feelings of abandonment. Or worse have been taught they do not deserve medical treatment if they have been abused. These children need extra help, support and counselling. However, with this support, most do not suffer problems in later life.
Grounding
Grounding is an act of calming yourself or having someone assist you in doing so. It is often needed in those who have trouble calming their emotions or who bottle their feelings up until they spill over. Grounding is necessary for all magical creatures and magical beings. No matter if you are an Alpha, Beta, Omega or human.
Omegas almost always need help when grounding. This is due to them internalising their emotions until they spill over. This isn't just feelings of being unworthy that they will over time often grow out of. But any emotion such as stress, worry and in some cases, even happiness. This does not mean that Omegas can't deal with their feelings at all. They can, after all, get their emotions out by doing something they enjoy, such as art, music, flying or another activity. But for big emotions, Omegas can't handle them.
Another thing Omegas struggle with is feeling wanted and accepted. Omegas like to be surrounded by friends and family and are deeply hurt when someone says they hate them. This does mean that an Omega can be deeply hurt due to being rejected. This rejection can happen due to their creature inheritance or for some other reason. The Omega will then be at risk of going into a deep depression.
Due to their feelings of wanting to be accepted, Omegas will at times change their behaviour if someone says they find it distasteful. This is more prominent for family members. However, if a friend or even just someone they meet makes a big enough impression. It could be anyone triggering their behaviour change. This can sometimes cause friction in mateships. Here the mate must step in to stop the behaviour, especially if it is causing them harm. But it will take a lot of convincing to get the Omega to see that their family is causing them harm if it is a family member. Although if it is the mate that doesn't approve of that behaviour. Then there is nothing on Earth that will stop the Omega from changing it. Sometimes this is impossible, and the OSS will have to step in and help the couple.
The ways Alphas will need to help Omegas in grounding are different for each Omega. Some will just need a hug. Others will fight against the grounding and need to be held firmly. Some Omegas also find talking easy. While others don't like doing so and will need to be forced to talk about their problems.
Humans
Some humans who are at high risk of coming into a magical inheritance can present Omega traits before that inheritance. It does not guarantee them to develop a creature inheritance as an Omega. But it does increase the chance. These children are treated under the OSS. This is to decrease the likelihood of them needing to change which organisation they are under. It does, however, depend on the school how these children are sorted, housed and treated medically.
These humans are affected by Alpha Pharamones the same as any other Omega. As in they are highly susceptible to them. This means that after the age of 14, Humans and Alphas should not room together. There is, however, no reason why Humans and Omegas can't dwell together. However, they would not be able to help Omegas ground. But they could get help if needed.
These humans will need to ground themselves as all magical beings and creatures do. They could do this through music, art, writing or sport. Something to watch out for, though is the inability to ground themselves. This is a sign of an impending creature inheritance as an Omega. Humans such as this do struggle with internalising emotions. They also just want a family and to be accepted by people.
Humans that do have issues with grounding themselves will need help. But this doesn't guarantee that they will go through a creature inheritance. In time these Humans will learn to release their own emotions and will be able to empathise with Omegas. This can give the Omegas comfort due to that shared experience. That someone gets it. The humans who don't go through their inheritance will, in time, learn the control needed to ground themselves. They will also have an easier time controlling their emotions as an adult.
When it comes to feelings of wanting to be accepted, these feelings will either reduce to just family or fade away. In time the human can become so comfortable in their own skin they don't worry about peoples opinions of them anymore. Sometimes these feelings do persist through into adult life. In these cases, counselling is offered. This can help. But sometimes the human just has to learn to live with the feelings.
OSS
The OSS or Oxford Support Service, as stated in the introduction chapter, has three departments catering to various humans and magical beings. There is the Creature Department, Gift Department and Family Department. The OSS is primarily responsible for the medical needs of those who fall under their care.
However, if the family is unwilling or unable, they are also responsible for assisting with the person's various needs. This usually happens when the child becomes the responsibility of the school or government. However, it can happen to some children who live with their parents for various reasons.
Under these extra responsibilities, the gift department is the one that generally ends up arranging tutors if the parents can't or won't. To assist with this, the OSS keeps on a couple of staff specialising in the gifts that fall under their responsibility. They also go to the other organisations to tutor those there. But they also have to arrange for people from those organisations to mentor someone under the OSS as necessary.
The Creature Department is also responsible for educating someone about their inheritance or race. Again this is only if the parents are unwilling or unable to. This typically only happens in a few circumstances. These are the child being an Orphan. The child being abandoned by their parents for that Creature inheritance. Or the child being forced out of the country by their Ministery. This is due to some countries banning particular magical creatures from being within their borders.
Education can involve tutoring in their magical abilities. But also information about their new biology. In some cases, it can include helping them adapt to a new Organisation and way of care. Especially important with the OSS. But someone also might need teaching about what it means to be an Omega. And what their roll in a family would be.
The Family Department has the least extra responsibilities. In fact, those additional responsibilities are shared by all the departments. This is to watch for those that might be registered under the wrong organisation. Such as someone who should be under the BCS but is registered under the OSS. Some would think that this is no big deal. But as stated in the introduction chapter, this is dangerous.
The OSS is the best equipped to deal with sensitive children and adults. This is due to the fact many sensitives are Omegas. Omegas are also most likely to be affected when cared for magically if they are sensitive. So when the Care organisations were set up, the OSS declared they would look after all sensitives. Due to this, there have been times when the OSS has taken over care for a Beta or rarely an Alpha. This is due to them being a sensitive to magic in a way that affects medical care. This can be just for medical care or permanently. But it is an executive decision made by all parties involved. It must always be what is best for the child.
When it comes to spotting those that have been registered under the wrong organisation, the OSS is the best at doing so. This is due to the standard medical checks that the OSS does. It is also expected to their hands-on approach to anything health-related. They do not wait for their omegas to come to them. Instead, they put all Omegas and humans under their care into a set medical rota. But they do try to let people have a chance at telling them when they are ill. You get two opportunities, and if you fail, then the number of medicals you receive is increased. It takes a lot of work to earn that trust back and get your medicals decreased again.
Another reason the OSS is so successful is that they are the smallest of the three organisations. But despite being the smallest, they are the most organised. So the care you receive is consistent across the world. One of the reasons the OSS is so small is due to most purebloods preferring male children.
However, one barrier the OSS does face is that in England, it is seen as invasive to test a child for their organisation twice. This means it is particularly challenging to catch if someone is registered wrong. Often these children are enrolled under the family department. It is only as they get older and start showing particular gifts that it can be caught. Not the easiest when people can have gifts over multiple organisations. In such cases, the spell to see what organisation you should be under can be cast twice.
How the OSS catches these children is by seeing which gift is the strongest. But they also regularly do checks to see what a child's gifts will be. They then place the child under the organisation where they will get the best care and training. The old fashioned way of doing things before the spell. Only the British Ministery frowns on this, but they have not yet brought in a law to stop it.
The last responsibility all share is to look out for abuse. Abuse can happen in any race of creatures. Though it is more common in some than others. When anyone working at these Organisations sees someone being abused, it is their responsibility to monitor and report it. The OSS is particularly good at spotting abuse. This is due to all their medical checks. But that doesn't make it easy. Magic can, after all, be used to hide the abuse. Mental abuse also remains difficult to spot and is the most common in the magical world.
