"Nice work," Aizawa said, his arm still wrapped up but overall he seemed to almost radiate health. A nice reminder to Izuku that he had saved the man's life. "You have the next two days of school off to recuperate. I'm sure the pros who watched the festival will want to recruit some of you. We'll look over the draft forms and update you when you return. Get some rest. You still have a lot of training,"
"Yes, sir," the students all replied.
"Oh and I should inform you, Mineta had been removed from the school for sexual harassment. " The entire class broke out into cheers, loud and obnoxious and to Izuku's shock even Aizawa was smirking a little. The man really must have been digusted to allow them such enjoyment of their own classmates misery. "Kaminari, since this is only his first offense, has been suspended for a week. We take harassment, bullying, abuse and such seriously here. We have no place for wannbe heroes who think they have the right to mistreat others. However legally to do anything, these things have to be brought to our attention, which these things were hence why we could deal with it. There are twenty of you per class and several classes, we cannot be everywhere at once so if this happens again, bring it up and will believe you enough to investigate. That is all, your dismissed."
As every student started to pack up and leave at that, Izuku turned to Momo. "Where's Iida? He's no where to be seen."
Her eyes widened and an aura of sadness overtook her. "There was an attack, Ingenium was attacked by a villian but I am not sure by whom. He found out during your fight with Uraraka, left in quite the rush."
"Wow... that's... I'll call him latter, that's terrible." Genuinely worried for his friend, Izuku took in a deep breathe and left the room, feeling Uraraka trailing behind him. "I'm so excited, we finally get to train with Shinso and Mei is going to be decking him out in so many gadgets. Today is going to be a fun day."
Uraraka giggled. "I hope so! I mean not tmore fun then just dominating the Sports Festival, but still fun. Shinso seemed nice."
"He does, doesn't he?"
'''
Shinso wasn't sure what to expect as he made it way to Gym Alpha, having been granted permsission from Midnight at the crux of the Sport's Festival. He knew Izuku would be there and he was looking forward to the training he had been promised. He was still tired from the Tournament, from being healed by Recovery Girl. but that didn't stem his excitment. Having someone, any one, have faith in his and not see him as a villian was a beautiful thing he would cherish.
"Hey Shinso!" Izuku barked at him like a happy puppy as soon as he entered the gym, where he, Mei and Uraraka were all stretching comfortably. He joined them, putting down his bag near the door, and started mimicing their movements. "Always stretch before you train, trust me it will save you a lot of pain."
"I'll keep that in mind."
"Today's going to be easy, so is tommorow. I want to asses where you are physically, see where you need to grow and figure out what fighting style you'll excel most with."
" Fair enough... so how do we start?"
Izuku's evil smirk was not comforting. "How do you feel about another obstacle course?"
"Depends, is it as horrifying as your expression is implying... or..."
"It's not that bad, really. It's not a tenth as hard as the one I use to train myself. It is designed to see where you are, physically, where you can improve and what your strengths are." Izuku smiled, gesturing to the course behind him. "After that we will see if you can take a punch, if you know how to throw on and if you can fall properly. Those are the basics you'll want to master first, trust me. They can and will save your life."
"He's right." Shinso, Mei and Uraraka all jumped at the deep tone that radiated from behind Shinso. Turning, he saw the very tall and scary looking Shoto Aizawa... the Eraserhead himself. "This is a good place to start, especially seeing as you are starting the Hero course when school starts up again."
Air caught in Shinso's lungs, he actually stumble back into a laughing Mei. " Really?" He sounded breatheless, weak and he hated it but damn it this was his life's dream.
Eraserhead smirked. "Really. I would also like to take up your training, at least part of it. You seem like a good fit for my style of combat. Midoriya can handle your conditioning and the like, Mei your combat supplies so your not a one trick pony, and I will handle your combat skills. Sound fair?"
Shinso didn't trust his voice, and so nodded slowly.
Izuku laughed, laughed of all things to do. "Perfect, I was debating on what style to teach him. If your handling his combat, then I don't have to worry about that. We can still spar though, get him some combat experience."
"I will leave him in your capable hands then." Eraserhead nodded to them as a group then turned and left, like a freaking Ninja!
"Wow." Shinso muttered.
Izuku leaned into him. "Yup... now, about that obstacle course? It's not going to run itself..."
"Yeah, Yeah, I'm on it."
He was not, as he said, on it... the damn thing nearly killed him.
"""
Two days later
Excited and happy to be going back to school after two days off, Izuku hoped onto the train with a rare excitement. He wanted to see what the world thought him now that the bias had faded out. He had even restricted his access to his computer and whatnot just to limit the exposure to people's thoughts.
"Hey, you. Excuse me. You're Midoriya from class 1-A! Great job in the sports festival. I rooted for you!" one of the other people on the train said, making him blush.
"You topped the entire festival, right? That's so impressive!" another passenger said. "Especially since you have no quirk, you must have worked so hard."
"Yeah, I can tell you really wanna be a pro one day!" one of the passengers told him.
"Keep trying for it, hero!" all of the passengers said.
With a deep red blush, he nodded. "I plan too. It's all I've ever wanted."
Some Old Lady made a sound in her throat. "Waste of time in my opinion, without those Support items you wouldn't have gotten half as far."
"I could say the same for my opponent's quirks, either way I managed to win the entire damn thing with or without your support." He smirked at her reddening face. "Now, I am going to focus on people more with my effort, thanks."
Several people in the train laughed at his words, mocking the old lady for her cruelty. However it was clear from the eyes of several people that they were not on his side...
That realization haunted him ever so slightly as he left the train.
"Good morning, Midoriya!" Iida's voice made Izuku jump, he turned and saw the boy in question decked out fully in rain gear.
"Ah... Whoa, Iida? You really went all out with the rain gear."
"Why on earth are you walking so slowly? You'll be late," Iida said as he ran by
"Late? But... there's still five minutes until the first bell," Izuku called out, picking up his pace.
"UA students should always arrive ten minutes early, don't you think?" Iida asked as the two ran into UA.
"We need to loosen you up... your going to give yourself a heart attack. Anyway, So, Iida, how is your brother? I heard what happened..."
Iida's face screamed worry, but his words said otherwise. "Don't be concerned. I'm sorry if I made you worry. Everything'll be fine," Iida told him, putting away his rain gear.
""""
"It's so weird that people recognize us from TV. Everyone wanted to talk to me on my way here," Ashido said.
"Yeah, me, too!" Kirishima agreed.
"People on the street were staring at me! It was kind of embarrassing," Hagakure said.
"Sure, but isn't that pretty normal for you?" Ojiro asked.
"You won't believe what a bunch of elementary school brats yelled at me," Sero said.
"Nice try?" Asui aked, making Sero groan.
The door opening revealed one very pleased looking Shinso being led by a very tired looking Aizawa. Their teacher nodded to them. "Morning and please welcome your newest classmate, Hitoshi Shinso."
"Good morning, Aizawa-sensei!" the students replied. "Good morning Shinso." They all said as one.
"Shinso, go sit in the empty seat. We have a big class today on Hero Informatics," Aizawa said as he rubbed under his eye. "You need codenames. Time to pick your hero identities."
"This is going to be totally awesome!" the class cheered, jumping out of their seats.
Aizawa growled, activating his quirk. The students all sat back down, quiet. "This is related to the pro hero draft picks that I mentioned the last time we were in class together. Normally, students don't have to worry about the draft yet. Not until their second or third year, actually, but your class is different. In fact, by extending offers to first-years like you, pros are essentially investing in your potential. Any offers can be rescinded if their interest in you dies down before graduation, though," Aizawa told them.
"So, what you're saying is, we'll still have to prove ourselves after we've gotten recruited?" Hagakure asked.
"Correct. Now. Here are the totals for those of you who got offers. In past years, it's been more spread out. In past years, it's been more spread out. But there's a pretty big gap this time," Aizawa told them, showing them the offers everyone got. Todoroki got 4,123, Uraraka got 3,000 even, Bakugo got 1,150, Midoriya got 613, Shinso has 750, Tokoyami got 360, Kaminari got 272, Kirishima got 280, Iida got 114 and Sero got 14.
"Gah! That's not fair," Kaminari said.
"What about the real star? Moi?" Aoyama asked.
"Todoroki got the most, ahead of Uraraka, Shinso and Midoriya? They had the top spots, so why did he get more?" Jiro asked.
"Yeah, it's the opposite of how they placed in the festival," Kirishima pointed out.
Izuku sighed. "I lack a quirk, people see Shinso's quirk as villianous, and Todoroki is the son of Endeavor so he was going to get requests regardless of his performance. Iida is the brother of Ingenium and did well til I put him out, so he was bound to get some requests. Biogtry is a big deal in our soceity.
"People want us!" Uraraka said as she shook Iida's shoulders. "But it's super gross how few people want Midoriya, he was amazing and kicked all of our butts. He's easily the strongest person in this class, hell I think he could beat some pros!"
Izuku may have blushed at that, shaking his head. " Doubtful, but I appreciate the sentiment." His mind went to the comment he got on the train, reminding him how right Uraraka was.
"Despite these results, you'll all be interning with pros. Got it? Even those of you who didn't get any offers," Aizawa stated, gaining the classes attention once more.
"Oh, so, we're all interning?" Momo asked.
"Yes. You already got to experience combat with real villains during the attack on the USJ facility. But it'll still be helpful to see pros at work. Up close and personal, in the field. Firsthand," Aizawa told them.
"And for that, we need hero names!" Sato said.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" Uraraka said, excited.
"These hero names will likely be temporary, but take them seriously or..." Aizawa started.
"... you'll have hell to pay later! What you pick today could be your codename for life. You better be careful, or you'll be stuck with something utterly indecent," Midnight finished, opening the door and entering the classroom.
"It's Midnight!" the class cheered.
"Yeah. She's got a good point. Midnight is going to have final approval over your names. It's not my forte," Aizawa said, grabbing his sleeping bag and snuggling into it like the adorable catepillar he was. "The name you give yourself is important. It helps reinforce your image and shows what kind of hero you wanna be in the future. A codename tells people exactly what you represent. Take All Might, for example," Aizawa said.
Izuku frowned. 'Who do I want to be, what do I represent... this is hard, I can't just use my old ideas and rip off of All Might. I am no longer just a fanboy or a deku, I am so much more then that... so who am I?'
"Now, students, who among you is ready to share?" Midnight asked a couple of minutes later
Aoyama walked to the front of the room and showed off his whiteboard, saying, "Hold your breath. The shining hero. My name is I can not stop twinkling! Mon amis. You can't deny my sparkle."
Izuku rolled his eyes. 'He may be wierd, but you cannot deny his confidence.'
"It'll be better this way. Take out the I and shorten the can not to can't," Midnight told him, correcting his name on the whiteboard.
"It's stunning, mademoiselle," Aoyama said.
"She likes it?" the class asked.
"Also, you're not really French, are you? That's just an act," Sato asked.
"Okie Dokie lemme go next! My code name: Alien Queen!" Ashido said, walking to the front of the room and showing off her hero name.
"Hold on. Like that horrible monster with the acidic blood? I don't think so," Midnight told her, looking horrified.
"Dang, it," Ashido said as she walked back to her seat sadly.
The adorable Tsu raised her hand. "Ribbit! I think I've got one. Okay, if I go next?"
"Come on up!" Midnight replied.
"I've had this name in mind since grade school. Rainy Season Hero: Froppy!" Asui said, standing in front of the class, showing off her whiteboard.
"That's delightful! It makes you sound approachable. What a great example of a name everyone will love!" Midnight told her.
"Froppy! Froppy! Froppy! Froppy! Thanks, Froppy! Finally, a normal one!" the class cheered, Tsu was pretty much loved by everyone.
"I've got mine, too. The Sturdy Hero. My name is Red Riot!" Kirishima said.
"Red Riot? Interesting. You're paying homage to the Chivalrous Hero, Crimson Riot, yes?" Midnight asked.
"That's right. He may be kind of old school, but someday I wanna be just like he was. Crimson is my idol," Kirishima replied.
"Hm. If you're bearing the name of someone you admire, you have that much more to live up to," Midnight warned him.
"I accept the challenge," Kirishima said and it filled Izuku with even more respect for the other boy.
'Wow, that's so cool. Before I met All Might, I had a couple of names picked out,' Midoriya thought, remembering his past obsession with All Might. 'I am more then just a fanboy now, so I refuse to use any of the past names I've made.'
"Man. I still haven't been able to think of anything that's cool enough," Kaminari said.
Jiro tapped him on his shoulder. "Hey, I've got one. How does Jammingway sound to you?" Jiro asked,
"Ha! Oh, it's like Hemmingway, who wrote 'A Farewell to Arms,' right? Real clever. I like it," Kaminari said.
"No. It's because even though you're powerful, you always jam your brain," Jiro told him, laughing.
"Oh, come on, Jiro. Quit messing with me!" Kaminari said as she got up, walking to the front of the room.
"The Hearing Hero. I'm Earphone Jack," Jiro announced, showing her whiteboard to the class.
"Now that's a good one!" Midnight told her.
"The tentacle Hero, Tentacole," Shoji said, standing at the front of the room and showing off his whiteboard.
"Oh, I like what you're doing with that. A nice portmanteau," Midnight told her.
"The Taping Hero: Cellophane!" Sero announced.
"That's on the nose. Good work!" Midnight said.
"Martial Arts Hero: Tailman," Ojiro said, standing in front of the class.
"No surprise with that one, I guess!" Midnight said.
"I'm the Sweets Hero, Sugarman!" Sato announced.
"Perfect!" Midnight told him.
"Pinky!" Ashido yelled, showing off her whiteboard to the class.
"Make those looks work for you, girl!" Midnight told her.
"Stung Gun Hero. I am Chargebolt. Electric, don't ya think?" Kaminari asked, standing at the front of the room.
"Makes me all tingly!" Midnight said.
"The Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl!" Hagakure announced. "Oh and Midoroiya, thanks for the suggestion to see Mei. They finished my outfit, so I am not naked when using my outfit. They made me a suit using parts of my hair, so it is protective and I am not always naked."
Izuku beamed a smile. "I am glad, I was worried for your safety with the sad state of your old outfit."
He knew she was beaming as she skipped back to her seat.
"I hope that I can live up to this name. The Everything Hero. I'm Creati!" Yaoyorozu announced.
"Creative!" Midnight said.
"Shoto," Shoto said, standing at the front of the room.
"Just your name? Is that it?" Midnight asked.
"Uh-huh," Shoto replied.
Izuku frowned. " Boring, how about Ice Phoenix or Temperment, Half and Half or Steam or Dual? So many great names other then just your actual name." He didn't care if everyone was looking at him, he was almost offended by Shoto's lack of enthusiasm.
The other boy frowned, but his eyes twinkled with something warm. " I... I like Steam, I think. Can I go with that?"
Midnight purred. " It fits."
The bird boy went up next. "Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi," Tokoyami announced.
"Ah, God of the night!" Midnight said.
Koda stood in front of the class, holding his whiteboard that said, "Petting Hero: Anima."
Bakugo walked over to Izuku and kneeled down. "My old name was too violent, do you have any ideas?" His voice was low and soft, his eyes earnest and hopeful. " I want to show, at least in part, that I am changing..."
Izuku nodded and really gave it some thought. "How about Red Dawn? Not every name has to be after your powers. Your trying to overcome a lot of your past, and each dawn brings a new day and new challenges... but it's also a metaphor for change through violence, which is not always a bad thing... so maybe that would be a good idea."
To his shock, Bakugo smiled, making him oddly handsome. "Thanks, I like it." And so he shared it with the class.
Midnight nodded. "I like this, a sign of turning over a new leaf... something almost poetic.
"Okay. My turn," Uraraka whispered to herself, walking to the front of the room. "This is the name I thought of, Uravity!" she announced, showing off her whiteboard.
"I just love that!" Midnight told her.
"Whew!" Uraraka said in relief as she walked back to her seat.
"To be honest, choosing names is going faster than I thought it would. All we have left is Iida, Shinso and Izuku." Midnight announced.
Izuku walked to the front of the class, scribbled out his name, one that had been inspired by what he said to Bakugo. The power of second chances and change... "This name... it's not one that I've given a lot of thought too, all my old names were riffs on others... but this felt right to write. I hope I can live up to it. My code name is simple...because I changed my entire self a year ago, remade who I was, giving myself the chance to be who I wanted to be. The person I never thought I would managed to become. So... here it is. The Changing Hero- Dynamic!
Iida stood in front of the class, showing off his whiteboard that read "Tenya.
"You're using your real name, too?" Midnight asked. A couple of minutes later, she asked, "Well, Shinso , are you ready?"
"Oh. Yes!" Shinso said, his low voice almost trembling with emotion as he walked to the front of the class. "I thought long and hard about the type of hero I want to be... I want to be somewhere between underground and spotlight, doing what I can with my power and making a difference wherever I can. So here is its, the Enduring Hero - Imperium!"
A few minutes later, Aizawa stood in front of the room again, with his sleeping back halfway unzipped.
"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we can go back to talking about your upcoming internships. They'll last for one week. As for who you'll be working with: those of you who were on the board will choose from among your offers. Everyone else will have a different list. You have a lot to think about. There are around 40 agencies across the country who've agreed to take on interns from your class. Each agency has a different specialty that its heroes focus on. Keep that in mind," he told them.
"Imagine you were Thirteen. You'd want to choose a place that focuses on rescuing people, not fighting villains. Understand?" Midnight asked, her tone as approachable as always.
"Think carefully before you decide," Aizawa told them.
"Yes, sir!" all of the students replied.
"I want to fight crime and bad guys in a big city," Kirishima said.
"I just hope I can intern someplace where there's a lot of flooding. Or maybe a lake," Asui said.
"Turn in your choices before the weekend," Aizawa told them.
"We've only got two days?" Sero asked.
"Yeah, so you should start now. You're dismissed," Aizawa replied as he and Midnight walked out of the classroom, closing the door behind them.
:::
Around Lunch time, Class 1A came together to decide where they wanted to intern.
"So, you guys, have you decided what pro agency you wanna go for?" Ashido asked.
"You made it pretty far in the tournament. It's weird you didn't get any offers," Ojiro told Ashido.
"I know," Ashido said.
Izuku knew why and frowned 'I would bet it's due to her mutation, people are awful for image... idiots, she's insanely gifted at martial arts, is extremely athletic and has a badass quirk... morons the lot of them.'
"Hey, Izuku, who's on your list?" Uraraka asked, turning around to look at him.
Izuku smiled. " Mostly underground heroes, since most aren't majorly powerful but are skilled they can admire my particular talents. Eraserhead and Nezu both offered to train me, as did Snipe and Midnight. I have to go through some more, there was a lot of people to sort through... this is going to be tough. I mean, I want to be a spotlight hero, to show that you don't need a quirk to be helpful but I could learn a lot from these underground heroes. I got some from Gunhead, Mirko of all people, and Fatgum but their dated weeks ago... the note says they actually tried to recruit me before, after seeing me fight Midnight... I think I might go with Mirko to bolster my combat skills but Gunhead is pretty amazing, and so is Fatgum,... this is going to be tough."
"I've settled on my pick," Uraraka said. " And we all knew of those last three, Nezu told us during the battle trial but we were so shocked by what happened that we forgot about it."
"Already?" Ashido asked.
"What agency?" Ojiro asked.
"The one that the Battle Hero: Gunhead runs," Uraraka replied.
"A big brawler like Gunhead... what with your natural talent for Martial arts, you could pick up a lot from him." Izuku smirked.
"Yup! He sent me an offer," Uraraka replied, she punched out. "The stronger I am, the more possibilities I'll have. Plus, learning from a battle hero will give me a different perspective. Right? I love martial arts and I want to get better. I did some research on some heroes when you started teaching me judo. His style is similar to judo and I think it would be great for me to learn. Also we get to do multiple internships, so I think I'll occalate between types from combat to rescue. Does that make sense?" Uraraka asked.
Izuku nodded. "It's a wise choice, you will be a real beast." He turned to Bakugo, who looked stunned. "Who do you think you'll go with Bakugo?"
The boy turned to him. "Mirko... she... she wants me to go with her too... Nezu recommended me personally, said I would learn a lot from her... "
Izuku. "We'd be working together, that'd be great. I could beat your ass again, isn't that great?"
Bakugo growled. "Is that a challenge?"
"It's a fact."
They both broke out into laughter that left the class baffled. Ashido, ever the blunt girl, asked. "I thought you hated each other?"
Izuku smiled. "Turns out he needed medical help for his temper, the details are his to share but he is working on it. I get that, and I am proud of his growth. He deserves a second chance, really his first real chance. So I am giving him one. Besides, he could have literally killed Uraraka despite her growth, that he didn't is a good sign I think. Don't you?"
No one really answered, but before they left class, Izuku saw a few kids talking to a stunned and near tears Bakugo... so he realized there may be hope for his old bully afterall.. and from how he was looking at Kirishima was far more telling then all that.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was so much fun to write... We didn't see Shinso's on purpose, you'll see why...
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
