Hello, all, it's me, Michael here! The Harry Potter Naming Thread recently surpassed 5000 views! Thank you to everyone responsible for the Harry Potter Naming Thread surpassing this milestone. Much love from Arizona! :)
It was 11 A.M. on Sunday, April 30th, 2000, and at the request of Bill Weasley, Bill's parents and still living siblings had met up with him in the Three Broomsticks.
Arthur, Molly, Charlie, Percy, George, Ron, Ginny, and Bill himself had just sat down and starting sipping on some butterbeers when Bill spoke up.
"I have some big news, " said Bill glowingly.
"What is it, Bill dear?" asked Molly kindly.
"My daughter is due on May 2nd, " said Bill matter of factly.
"You have chosen a name for her, " guessed Charlie with a grin.
"Right you are Charlie, " said Bill matter of factly.
"What are you going to call your daughter then?" Ron asked Bill curiously.
"I have decided to name my daughter Victoire, " said Bill thoughtfully.
"I noticed some thought and care in your voice, " said Ginny observantly.
"Yes, " said Bill slowly, "You see, my daughter is due on May 2nd, 2000."
George suddenly tensed up a bit.
"That's the two year anniversary of The Battle of Hogwarts, " remembered George, sounding both sad and uneasy as he spoke.
"Yes, " ackwoneleged Bill, "I understand that was a very tragic day for our family. But it also marks the end of the Second Wizarding War and our victory over Voldemort."
"That will be a bittersweet day, " said Percy tonelessly, "A lot of loss was suffered on that day, but it was also the day of the triumph that allowed us to move forward."
"it's that second part that I want to commemorate with my daughter's name, " explained Bill meaningfully, "Victoire means victory in French. My daughter is due on the two year anniversary of our victory. Victoire will thus be a very fitting name for my daughter."
"You've clearly put some time and effort into thinking this out and reasoning it, " said Ginny approvingly, "Much respect, my biggest bro!"
"I know from personal experience seven times over that there is no more deeply personal experience than becoming a father, " said Arthur emotionally, "It's a truly special and precious thing."
"Exactly, " said Bill in a businesslike voice, "It was not a decision to take lightly. Some choices demand significant thought and care. For me, naming my daughter is definitely one of those choices that demands thought and care."
"Does anyone else know that you are naming your daughter Victoire?" George asked Bill.
"No, " said Bill briskly, "It's only right that I tell my own parents and siblings before anyone else."
"Thank you for that, " chorused Arthur, Molly, Charlie, Percy, George, Ron, and Ginny in respectful voices, all clearly appreciating the respect towards family that Bill had proven by telling them first.
"While the losses suffered on that day were gut wrenching, " explained Bill, "I see naming my daughter Victoire in honor of our victory on that day as symbolic of moving forward. Of how that victory paved the way for a better life in the future."
"I can remember when you were the newborn in the world, " Arthur told Bill emotionally, "Hard to believe a child I fathered is going to become a father himself."
"I'm very proud and very happy, " said Bill radiantly.
And with that, Arthur, Molly, Charlie, Percy, George, Ron, Ginny, and Bill himself all spontaneously raised their glasses and toasted "Victoire!"
