Daniel Dobbs loved the rain.
Not torrential downpours, but Daniel Dobbs LOVED light rain showers.
On Monday, April 4th, 1994, Daniel Dobbs got a pleasant light shower in his part of town.
Daniel put on his scarlet swimming trunks and golden slide on sandals and opened his back door to let himself outside.
Closing the door behind him, Daniel was immediately hit with a soothing round of rain showers.
The cool rain was very pleasant on Daniel's skin, and he started to take a leisurely paced walk around his yard.
The rain shower had put Daniel in a very good mood in a very calm way.
There was a certain purity to taking a solitary stroll in a light cool rain.
The calmness and happiness that was flowing through Daniel just as much as the rain was flowing onto him gave him a very clear head.
Daniel hadn't stepped outside thinking he would be making an important decision in the rain. He just to enjoy getting a little drizzle on him.
But. in his calm, peaceful, and happy state, and without the presence of other people to distract him, Daniel's mind naturally turned to one of the most important decisions of his life.
Daniel had a daughter due in two weeks.
He hadn't yet given much thought to how he was going to name her.
Even now, he wasn't fully thinking about that just yet.
His mind simply settled on the fact that he was looking forward to becoming a proud papa in a couple of weeks.
Without even thinking about the fact that he still needed to choose a name for his daughter, the name "Emma Dobbs" came trotting into Daniel's mind.
But, as soon as the name Emma Dobbs planted itself into Daniel's mind, he knew was going to name his daughter Emma.
Emma meant whole and universal.
Daniel knew that when his daughter was born that she would become his whole world.
As such, it felt appropriate to Daniel that his daughter would bear a name that meant whole. Emma meant whole and Emma Dobbs was going to become Daniel's whole world.
He also was taken by the fact that Emma also meant universal.
Daniel was an avid world traveler who had visited over thirty countries on six different continents.
Daniel prided himself on being a person who knew about the whole world, not just his own country, and he hoped that his daughter would grow up to be the same way. Daniel now realized that he would be introducing Emma to world travel when she was a very young girl.
Daniel spoke English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Finnish, Chinese, Turkish, and Japanese. He had sampled a wide variety of foods, both meal foods, and snacks, from countries all over the world. He had listened to music from all different cultures.
This is what he wanted Emma to grow to be. A person with awareness and appreciation of the vast globe and not just her native land.
This was why Emma Dobbs was the perfect name.
Emma would become Daniel's whole world, and like Daniel, she would experience the vast world.
Settling on his naming decision with ease, Daniel kept pacing around in the delightful light cool rain.
Here in the light cool rain, Daniel Dobbs was contently thinking about the upcoming arrival of Emma Dobbs.
A/N: Emma Dobbs is a name very briefly mentioned during the sorting in Goblet of Fire, though we don't know where she gets sorted to. The chapter quickly references that the hat was "now sorting Emma Dobbs" but it's decision on her is never revealed and she is never mentioned again.
