Casper Sloper's heart was fluttering.
The clock had just turned to midnight on October 31st. That meant it was Halloween.
Simultaneously as the clock had struck midnight, Casper Sloper's son had been born.
The timing of his son's birth gave Casper goosebumps.
Casper himself had always been a HUGE Halloween fan.
Casper had grown up absolutely loving everything to do with Halloween: Trick or treating, costume contests, haunted houses, scary movies, and Jack O Lanterns.
"OOH!" thought Casper to himself as he went through everything he loved about Halloween in his own mind.
Up to this point, Casper hadn't chosen a name for his son yet.
But, as he reminisced about Halloween as he witnessed his son being born on Halloween, Casper was struck by a sudden idea. A perfect idea really.
"I shall name my son Jack Sloper, " said Casper glowingly, "My son, who was born on Halloween, will be called Jack. How fitting. Jack O Lanterns have always been my favorite part of Halloween and that's coming from someone who's a Halloween junkie in all aspects and then some."
Casper grinned broadly, his face glowing.
Casper was thinking about how his entire family had loved Halloween for decades and how Halloween themed names ran in his family: His parents' names were Pumpkin and Boo, his paternal grandparents' names were Spider and Batty, his maternal grandparents' names were Gore and Spirit, and his wife's name was Autumn. He even had a pet black cat named Spooky.
Jack was the perfect addition to the list of first names used by the Slopers.
Casper thought now that the fates had worked in his favor.
He hadn't given any thought to naming his son until his son was born. By only making this decision upon his son's birth, and by the fortuitus occasion of his son being born exactly as Halloween hit, the most perfect idea came upon his brain at exactly the right time.
Becoming a father was an immense joy in and of itself.
Casper's joy at fatherhood was enhanced by his son being a Halloween baby.
But then, to be able to give his Halloween the name of Jack, that was it man, that was perfect. It all came together so nicely.
Casper thought about how he was going to raise Jack to be a Halloween lover and his insides radiated at the thoughts of what would come in the years ahead.
Casper salivated as he imagined what it was going to be like when he first took Jack trick or treating, when Jack tried on his first ever costume, when Jack experienced a haunted house for the first time, when Jack saw his first scary movie, and especially when Jack carved his first Jack O Lantern.
Casper knew that over the years to come, he and Jack would have loads of father and son bonding time related to Halloween every October.
Jack Sloper was truly a Halloween baby.
Perfect.
This upcoming Sunday is Halloween! Happy Halloween everybody! BOO!
