SomeCallMeDrunk: Honestly, those are fair. I kind of forgot about the poison shields and all that so it never occurred to me to use the Hydra as unique skill material. Other than that, yeah, I can see where the chapter was mediocre. I will say that I personally think the Hydra fight is one of the best fight scenes I've written, everything after was kind of rushed. Sorry about that.
The Neckbeard Knight: Well I'm glad you're back! It's nice to know you enjoyed it so far. To more memes!
D3lph0xL0v3r: DK! TACT IS DEAD! (joke) Like I've said before, I only know the series up to the end of the anime's first season, as well as little bits and pieces past that thank to other fanfics. I do not know anywhere near enough to deal with Tact right now.
AnimeA55Kicker: It doesn't really matter how much stat power you have. A clean shot to your head with enough strength and you're out cold. Also yes, that was a motherfucking Shrek reference, thank you for noticing :)
calderoneric758: Yeah the website got really messed up for a little bit because it sucks, but its back to working now, so whatever. Also, I will try to do poses, but there's only so many a character can do that look feasible while not copying the original JoJo poses.
A Shield's Stand
Chapter 10: A Day In Town
The party of now five received some very strange looks as they walked through the streets of Ilmita City, which is understandable considering Naofumi was carrying the semi-naked little girl with silver feathered wings sprouting from her back. Frankly, Naofumi was glad the people here were worried, in Castle Town, someone would probably ask where they could find one of their own, much to his displeasure.
Regardless, the group continued on their merry way, making their way to the church Kane had directed them all to. Like the one in Castle Town, it was sculpted of fine white marble, practically oozing a sort of holy and serene aura about it. At the crest of the building was a glimmering golden shield, the signature lime-green gem shining in the center of the Shield's face. While it was nice to not be discriminated against, Naofumi wasn't sure how to feel about the country worshipping him as a holy figure. Looking back, Rifana and Raphtalia both seemed to be in agreement with him.
"Daddy, the building has your shield!" Silver spoke up again.
While it was nice to see her not crying, she had excitedly pointed out every single thing she had seen in the city. It was enjoyable seeing the little girl (bird?) so excited, the obvious statements did get a little tiring to hear after a while.
Even so, Naofumi gave a small chuckle, "That's right. Apparently in this country, they worship the Shield Hero because one of the past Shield Hero's saved them in a war." That was also something Naofumi would really like to know. The past heroes were also summoned to fight the waves but he never knew what happened to them. Did they succeed or did they die during them? If they succeed, then what? Naofumi already died once and he doubts he can go back to his world, so is he stuck here?
So many questions and barely any answers.
Putting his worrying thoughts aside for the time being, Naofumi walked into the church, his party members following behind him. The nuns inside all rushed to greet him and cater to his needs the second they saw him, which, given the religion, makes sense, but he really didn't need to be mobbed by ten nuns at once.
"Alright! Back off nutjobs!" Elina shouted harshly. "He may be the Shield Hero, but Shieldy can't handle all of you at once, trust me, we've tried."
Naofumi, Rifana, and Raphtalia sputtered, "Elina! You're gonna give them the wrong idea!" Raphtalia shouted back.
Naofumi calmed himself down and spoke with authority, "While I don't agree with my party member's wording, I do agree with her words." The nuns sagged at his words, "If we could have just two of you to help us, that would be wonderful."
The nuns had a quick discussion before they scattered back to their previous duties, two nuns, a slime and rhino demihuman each, remaining to aid the party with their objective.
"What can we do for you, oh Holy Lord Shield Hero," the rhino asks, both nuns bowing before the party.
"Jeez, if you're gonna try and seduce him, try and make him comfortable first," Elina spoke up once more. The nun's visibly bristled at her words.
Raphtalia delivered a quick slap to the giant's head, "One more word out of your mouth, and I will kick you out of here, even if you are stronger than me." Raphtalia's eyes held incomparable strength behind them, one not even Elina could hope to match.
The giant tsked and looked away from the terrifying raccoon, saying nothing else.
Naofumi coughed to gain attention, "Anyway, we would like you to bring us to your Dragon Hourglass. We need to sync for the wave and retrieve our class-ups if possible." A small and timid smile practically glowed on naofumi's face, "And if you could, please call me Naofumi, I'm not all that comfortable with suddenly being worshipped as a religious figure."
The two nuns bowed again, "As you wish Naofumi." The two raised from their bow, staring further into the church's interior. "Please follow us, and if you could, please refrain from any vulgar activities or words."
They all knew who that was directed towards.
The party followed the two deeper into the church, ignoring the stunned looks of the other nuns they passed and answering any of Silver's questions until they finally came to Shieldfreeden's Dragon Hourglass. Naofumi handed off Silver to Raphtalia, the raccoon demi-human looking unsure of what to do as the bird child complained and tried to dart back into Naofumi's hands.
"It'll only be a second Silver, then I'll be back, ok?" Naofumi tried to placate her.
Silver pouted in Raphtalia's arms, "Ok, daddy…"
A quick sigh of relief and Naofumi walked up to the hourglass. Like with Melromarc, a green beam shot from the giant hourglass and travelled into the gem of the shield, and just like that there were two timers that Naofumi could see.
A little over three days… I can't believe we almost missed this.
"Well, Kane wasn't lying, there's another wave in just three days, so let's get those class-ups and be on our way."
Elina was the first of the four to walk up, as she was the most experienced out of all them, having been adventuring and actually knowing what a class-up was at all. She approached the divine hourglass and halted, seeing something that none of the others couldn't, scrolling through a seeming list of options before selecting one. A sudden light overcame Elina's body, enveloping her entirely, preventing any outside from viewing her.
The light shattered off her, leaving Elina looking exactly as she had before, which was a relief to Naofumi. If class-ups changed his member's looks he wouldn't know what to think. A quick pull of Elina stats was enough to confirm that, yes, the class-up had worked, and every one of Elina's stats had gained a decent boost.
Elina returned to the group, speaking her mind, "A quick warning, I didn't get all the options I should have as a barbarian going through a class-up. If I had to guess, it's something to do with Shieldy, but I got the one I wanted anyway, so it's fine for me."
Leave it to Elina to just gloss over something shocking as if it's nothing, but there wasn't much they could do about it now.
Rifana was the next one to approach the hourglass, undergoing the same light enveloping ceremony Elina had. Raphtalia followed after with Silver being the last one to go through after getting Naofumi to go beside her.
After finalizing everything with the nuns and eventually getting them to accept the payment (it didn't matter if he was the Shield Hero, he was gonna pay dammit), the group of five exited the church and made their way to the inn Kane had specified. A quick chat with Nadeen, and the party had been granted two rooms, with Silver refusing to leave Naofumi alone, meaning Elina, Raphtalia, and Rifana would all be crammed into one room together. Joy.
Waking up, Raphtalia stretched, waking up every muscle in her body and hearing the sound of several cracks through her body. She turned right only to meet the wall of muscle that was Elina, her mouth wide open and snoring loudly right next to her. It was then she felt something wet travel down the side of her head. A quick and deep breath and Raphtalia got up from the bed, immediately bolting for the washroom the inn had, slamming the door behind her. The loud band didn't even jostle Elina and Rifana had already been awake for hours, dark bags hanging under her eyes.
After the three had woken up and gotten ready, Raphtalia knocked on Naofumi and Silver's door. She heard some groaning on the other end and five seconds later, Naofumi opens the door, revealing his very tired state, with Silver still sleeping, completely wrapped around him.
Naofumi answers Raphtalia's obvious question, "She refused to let go of me in her sleep and she talks in her sleep. I didn't get any sleep last night."
Raphtalia could believe that. Besides the obvious eyebags the hero had, his hair was also very dishevelled and his looked just a bit paler than he had yesterday.
"Do you want us to take Silver off your hands for the day? We could get everything ready for the wave while you sleep in." Raphtalia offers.
"I would love nothing more than that, but I don't think it would look good for me to sleep in while I made my party members do errands like slaves. Also, if you can rip her off my body, then by all means, go ahead," Naofumi tiredly responds.
The hero had a point. They had just arrived in the country, and even though they hadn't been branded slaves, having Naofumi treat them as such would probably put a lot of people on edge, especially since they already viewed him as some kind of god. Also Silver's defense stat (while not as high as Naofumi's) and attack stat made is so pretty much no one could pry him off Naofumi.
"Besides, I was thinking we could get some more stuff done. We could split up into two teams. Some of us get Silver up to speed on everything, and the others could work on getting supplies for the wave," Naofumi wasn't even looking at her anymore, he was staring holes in the wall.
Raphtalia clapped and Naofumi focused on her, "I really think you should rest, but if you think you can handle it, then fine, you can come."
Naofumi laughed a little and gave Raphtalia a quick head pat, "Relax Raph, I'll be fine. I think I can handle being a little tired." He walked two steps forward and tumbled down the entire staircase, neither him or Silver taking any damage because of their ludicrous defense. Naofumi looked up at Raphtalia from the lower floor, "This proves nothing."
Eventually, the group ate breakfast and gathered outside the inn. Naofumi repeated his idea of splitting up and Rifana jumped at the chance.
"Oh! Oh! I know!" Rifana squealed in excitement, "Me, Raph, and El can get supplies while you catch Silver up on everything!"
Everyone but Rifana and Silver sagged slightly at the idea.
Before anyone could object, Rifana latched on to Raphtalia and Elina's hands, yanking them away into the city.
"Let's go Daddy! C'mon c'mon!" Silver tugged at Naofumi before he sighed in acceptance.
Rifana's plan was foolproof. Nothing could go wrong and if you said otherwise she would deny you completely. Ever since Elina had joined the party, Raphtalia and Elina had been at odds, always getting into little spats over the smallest of things. But this time, it went too far. Rifana missed out on her much needed sleep because the both of them argued into the night before they both passed out and snored loud enough to wake the dead.
So what if they didn't get along? Everyone could, given enough time together, and this time Rifana made sure they would.
The group of women had already gone to the local armory, but failed to find anything they didn't already have. Afterall, nothing could really beat Erhard's work. At least they didn't need to replace their current weapons right now, so that was a good thing for the time being. They also stocked up on some dried meats for when they eventually returned to camping and they even managed to pick up a nice trinket for Naofumi to wear.
Although things were starting a little too tense for even Rifana. Elina and Raphtalia kept throwing each other glares almost every minute or at every single little inconvenience that occurred. Luckily, her plan had almost come to fruition. They were now in the apothecary's shop, the man behind the counter looking ecstatic to have the party of the Shield Hero in his store of all things.
So far Rifana had already talked to both Elina and Raphtalia separately in the other shops, getting all kinds of information on the two since they seemed to be in a spiteful mood.
Raphtalia's main issue was how uncaring, disrespectful, and downright arrogant Elina could be seemingly all the time. Couple this with the fact that Raphtalia still didn't fully trust the human party member, which is kind of understandable given how exactly she had joined the party and the events surrounding the point in time, and you got a solid channel for frustration to flow.
Elina's main issue was how restrictive, bossy, and annoyingly persistent Raphtalia was when she started nagging everyone like she was some sort of authoritative figure. She refused to give the damn raccoon any ounce of the respect she demands until she earns it.
Frankly, Rifana saw how they hadn't already solved the issue since all it would take is a nice conversation between the two… which just so happens to be exactly what Rifana has planned out for the two.
Standing in the apothecary, Rifana suddenly spoke aloud, "Aww shoot! I forgot to get 'Fumi the coat he asked for!" Rifana overdramatically throws her hands in the air, "Welp! I guess I'll go get that right now, you guys can handle everything here! See ya!"
Before anyone could even begin to question the outburst of noise, Rifana charged out the door and off into the streets of Ilmita. Raphtalia rubbed her temples with one hand. It was painfully obvious what Rifana had been trying to do this whole time.
"She really thinks us talking will make us get along? She's not very smart, is she? "
A tick mark showed on Raphtalia's forehead, "And you are?"
Elina glared at the smaller demi-human, "What's that supposed to mean, raccoon?"
"It means you aren't the invincible juggernaut you think you are."
Oh boy… that was a lot of venom, Rifana through from outside the door. This was not progressing well.
"And what the hell do you know about me?"
"I know you're disgusting to be around, careless with your attacks, almost getting not only you but us injured in fights, and worst of all, you don't even seem to care how anything you do reflects on Naofumi!"
"Like I should care what others think about us! Besides, you don't even hold a candle to me! You're bossy, you nag everyone in the party no matter what, and you demand respect when you've done jack shit to earn it. Once you do something a real warrior would, then I'll give a shit about you, damn raccoon!"
The apothecary nervously approached the two feral ladies in his store, "Ladies, please calm down… I'm sure we all have our issues to work out but-"
Both warriors look the apothecary in his soul, "You stay out of this!" They both shout in sync.
Oooooohhhh this was not a good idea… Rifana scrunched down the wall in regret.
Raphtalia jabs her fingers into Elina's chest, "I don't know what the hell Naofumi sees in you, but all I see is another piece of Melromarcian trash!"
"Don't you dare compare me to those idiots…" Elina growled out.
"You're lucky Naofumi is as kind as he is! If you were like this with your last party, I can see why they ditched you!" Raphtalia stormed up to the counter, threw out some silver for the potions and left the store.
Rifana had no time to hide and tried to casually lean against the wall, shakily talking to the infuriated raccoon, "O-oh heyyyyy R-raph! I didn't see y-you there! I just got back from the store and they didn't h-have any scarfs! Crazy right? Hehehe…"
Raphtalia just snatched Rifana's ear, tugging her along down the road away from the shop and ignoring Rifana's cries of protest, pain, and apologies. Still inside the shop, Elina stood silently. She quietly touched her scarred eye before leaving the shop, heading for the city's practice field.
She needed to vent for a while.
Meanwhile, Naofumi was getting dragged everywhere by his sudden bird daughter. He had already tried to tell her about him being the Shield Hero and about the waves and his subsequent duty to defeat them, but Silver didn't seem too intent on listening. For how small she was, Silver had an unreasonable amount of strength, easily managing to tow Naofumi wherever she wanted to go. Anytime Naofumi tried to stop the girl from doing something, Silver started to tear up and Naofumi quickly gave in, just to make the tears stop. By the third store, Silver had already eaten several pieces of street food, and had made Naofumi buy her a tiny cotton doll of a shield she could cuddle in her sleep.
While it was very cute to see Silver get so excited over all this, it was also very tiring, especially for someone who got no sleep last night.
Naofumi tiredly rubbed his eyes as Silver dragged him over to another street vendor, pleading for another piece of food. "Silver, you already had like four things to eat in the last hour. If you keep eating, you're gonna get a stomach ache. Besides, we don't have all the money in the world and I want to save some for the rest of the group."
Silver's lip began to wobble again, but Naofumi tried his best and succeeded for once in standing his ground against the bird child. "Do you not love me?" Silver asked quietly, tears dripping from her eyes.
Hearing the words, Naofumi rushed to assure her, "Of course I do, Silver! I just don't want you to get hurt! I promise I love you!" Naofumi looked around him, seeing several passerby looking at him upsettedly, "Oh Silver, please stop crying, I promise I do love you, more than anything in the whole world!"
"So this is the great Shield Hero?" The street vendor asked, "If you can so readily make a little girl cry, then maybe you aren't the kind hearted person the church says you are." The demi-human scolded the tired man.
Almost instantly, Silver's tears stopped and with a poof of smoke and a loud tear of the cloak, she was back to being a filolial. Except… she was a little puffier than last he had seen.
"Don't talk about Daddy that way! Jerkface!" Silver shouted before delivering a swift kick to the vendor's stand, destroying his cooking station but thankfully leaving the demi-human unharmed.
"Silver!" Naofumi shouted at the now bird, "You cannot attack someone like that! No matter how mad they make you, trying to hurt someone almost never leads to a good result! Now come with me right now, Silver!"
Silver grumbled in protest but seeing Naofumi's stern face, she gave in, transforming back into her child form. Naofumi quickly covered her bare body and they headed off, Silver clutching her plush shield.
They walked quietly for a bit, thankfully escaping any further commotion from the previous scuffle, but it was a stark contrast from Silver's previous excitable mood. Naofumi sighed, "Silver, I'm very glad that you were so quick to defend me, but you need to understand two things." Silver didn't face Naofumi but he could tell she was listening by the subtle shift of her head towards him, "Firstly, and most importantly, you can't attack someone just because they do something you don't like. That makes you no better than them, especially when you can just walk away. Secondly, that situation only happened because you ignored me. I'm not dumb enough to say that I know everything, but I have been alive for e quite a lot longer than you have, so I do know what I'm talking about from time to time, so I need you to trust me when I say stuff like that."
Silver's wings drooped under the cloak, and her face took on an even more downcast expression. Naofumi gave a small smile to the little girl, "Even so, I will let this one go, but only because you didn't know better, ok?"
Silver's face lit up as she saw that Naofumi had forgiven her, "Of course Daddy!" She gripped him in a fierce hug, "I love you!"
Naofumi returned the embrace softly, "I love you too Silver." Naofumi did take a quick look at the cloak Silver was wearing, remembering her transformation back at the stall. "So can you switch between forms whenever you want, or do you have to do something to do it?"
Silver happily trotted along, "I can do it whenever I want, but I like being small better, I get to hug you more!"
As troublesome as she had been so far, Silver had a way of spinning things so they were brighter than they should be. Naofumi smiled at the girl he called his daughter, "Why don't we go see if we can get you some clothes that transform with you. That way we don't have to always replace anything you wear."
Silver thought for a bit before agreeing. The two made their way to the nearest clothing shop (after asking a friendly bear demi-human) and entered the small store. At the front was a female beastman, her fur covering every inch of visible skin, and a long snout coming from her nose and jaw. She looked up from her paperwork to see who had entered before quickly becoming excited at being able to outfit the Shield Hero of all people.
She stood from her chair and rushed over to the two, giving off her standard welcoming (if a bit more dramatic for the hero in the store), "Welcome to fur emporium, where our clothes are as fine as silk and soft as fur!"
Naofumi returned the woman's smile, "Hello! I was hoping you would be able to make some clothes that change with the wearer, if that is at all possible."
The woman's smile did not falter for a second, "Of course I can, I'll just need the wearer to come in and make some magic thread from their mana."
Naofumi spared a quick glance to Silver who was ferociously hugging the plush shield, "Uhh, how exactly do we do that?"
The woman led them over to a spinning wheel with a neat magic gem placed finely on the top of it, wires leading from every part of the machine. The whole contraption looked quite interesting for something that just made a different type of thread, but Naofumi knew nothing of magic, so he couldn't really judge. "All they need to do is sit here and spin the wheel while holding on to the gem. Their mana will be sucked out through the gem and go into the spinning wheel, producing physical thread which I can make clothes from."
Naofumi inspected the machine a little more closely before deciding it looked safe enough. "Silver, I need you to spin the wheel and hold the gem, ok? It might make you tired but you'll get some nice clothes by the end of it." Flashing the girl a quick smile, Silver hopped up and did as he asked. "So how much would some clothes from magic thread cost?"
The woman thought real quick before saying, "1 gold and 50 silver."
And there goes any reserve funds for Naofumi.
The end of the day came quite quickly for all of them as they gathered back at the inn. Elina and Raphtalia refused to even look at each other and both Elina and Rifana had smaller injuries to take care of. Rifana's ear was swollen and Elina's knuckles were bleeding, and no matter how much he asked, none of the three gave any answers as to how they got them. Well, it's just another thing for Naofumi to worry about after a nice nap. The second he hit the bed, he passed out, no tossing or turning, no snoring, just straight up out like a light.
Seeing Naofumi so tired and worn out, Raphtalia put her anger at Elina aside for the moment, instead choosing to nip the bud before it bloomed. Entering the room she was surprised to see Silver's new accessory. Silver was hugging with the plush shield next to the sleeping Naofumi, trying to wake the man up to play a game.
Ignoring the sudden appearance of the plush shield, Raphtalia walked up and softly laid her hand on Silver's wrist, stopping her attempts to wake up Naofumi. The girl looked up confused before scowling at the sight of the demi-human member of their party. Nodding her head towards the door, Silver reluctantly followed her.
Once they had entered the hallway and were no longer at risk of waking up the exhausted hero, Raphtalia spoke softly to the girl, "Silver, you can't keep doing this to Naofumi. He needs a break." He really did. Ever since the bird girl had become a bird girl, she had relentlessly tackled Naofumi at every turn and moment, refusing to let the man from her sight for even a moment.
Silver scowled, challenging the demi-human, "He's my Daddy, not yours. Stop trying to take him from me."
The childish view of Silver wasn't exactly surprising, but her possessiveness over Naofumi was to a degree. Raphtalia had heard of Daddy's girls, hell, the princess was a clear cut case of the worst outcome of being one, but after this short a time, Raphtalia didn't expect Silver to be one. This needed to be approached carefully and properly.
Raphtalia crouched to Silver's height, not letting her annoyance from the day show on her face. "Silver, do you love your Daddy?"
Silver had not expected that question at all, she expected some sort of battle. She collected herself quickly, "Yes! He's my Daddy!"
"If you do, then I want you to take a close look at him, right now." She was young, so she probably didn't know better, but it still needed to be addressed, "but don't wake him up," Raphtalia added as an afterthought.
Silver looked at the door and opened it softly, walking up to the man on the bed. For the first time, she really looked at her Daddy. She saw his pale skin, his eye bags, and the way he didn't even still at how close she was to him. Why was her Daddy like this? How does she fix it?
Raphtalia softly spoke to the young girl beside her, "Naofumi isn't invincible. He needs rest, just like everyone else. Everything that's happened in the last two days hasn't let him get the rest he's needed. So for your Daddy's sake, could you let him rest when he needs to?"
A guilty look developed on Silver's face as she looked down in shame. She was hurting Daddy? She just wanted to spend time with him.
Raphtalia opened her arms up to the girl, who readily accepted them, siffling a little bit in the warm embrace. "It's ok if you didn't know, but we all need some time to ourselves, ok? Besides, don't be too sad, By now, Naofumi probably already forgave you." The two left the room, a smile on the sleeping man's face.
Naofumi didn't know what happened while he was asleep, but he felt amazing right now. All his previous exhaustion was gone and he felt as sprightly as ever. Unfortunately it seemed the rest of his party didn't feel the same way when they ate breakfast together. Rifana's eye bags were worse than yesterday, Raphtalia and Elina refused to even look in the other's direction, and Silver looked really guilty about something. Naofumi prayed she didn't destroy something important.
Luckily, they all had everything they would need for the wave, so they had nothing to worry about in that department. So that left them with an entire day to themselves for once. Elina left to train, Rifana and Raphtalia trailing her since she knew where the training area was (much to Raphtalia's displeasure) so that left him with alone with Silver, who seemed to be far more manageable today.
As they walked back to the tailor to pick up Silver's transforming clothes, Silver tugged on Naofumi's sleeve, drawing his attention toward her. With one hand on her plush shield and another gripping Naofumi's sleeve, Silver mumbled out something Naofumi couldn't hear.
"What was that Silver? I couldn't hear you."
Silver spoke again, just barely loud enough for Naofumi to hear, "I'm sorry Daddy."
Naofumi made sure it was safe to cross and went to the side of the street, kneeling down to Silver's height and seeing the tears in her eyes. "Sorry for what Silver?"
"Sorry for not letting you rest… I just wanted to be with you all the time," Silver spoke quietly.
As much of a handful she had been for the past two days, Naofumi had to remember that no matter what she looked like, she was quite literally less than a week old and had only gained access to her human form two days ago. "It's alright Silver, I just need a little break every now and then, you did nothing wrong."
"But I did!" Silver shouted, "I knew you were tired but I didn't care! Then I made you get all those things for me! I don't deserve them!" As she said this, she tightened the grip on her plush shield.
Silver felt a hand fall on her head. She looked up to see Naofumi smiling at her kindly. "It's alright Silver, really, it is. I knew what you were trying to do. It isn't the first time someone has tried to manipulate me in some way." His thoughts trailed back to Myne before he forced himself back to the present. "The point is, even though I knew what you were doing, I did it all anyway, because I love you, Silver, and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for my family. Just try to be reasonable about what you ask for, alright?" Silver jumped into Naofumi, who quickly caught the now sobbing girl. Naofumi pats her back, "Alright, alright. Why don't we go and get those clothes now, huh?"
Silver exited the changing stall, now dressed in her magic clothes which should, in theory, change with her when she turns into a giant bird. She wore a one piece outfit colored navy blue that exposed a large portion of her collarbone and left her arms bare, all while leaving her metallic wings room to flap excitedly as Silver examined her new clothes with glee (essentially medieval overalls because I thought that would mesh well with her personality and color scheme).
Silver tensed her body for a second before a puff of smoke erupted and she stood in her bird form. The one piece outfit had turned into a harness that covered a large portion of her chest, providing just a bit more defense while she was in the form.
Silver turned to the now comparatively smaller Naofumi, "I love it Daddy! Thank you so much!"
"I'm glad you do Silver."
Naofumi paid the kind (and slightly startled) demi-human woman for the clothes and they left on their way for the inn once more.
"So, were you listening to what I said about the waves and what we have to do tomorrow?" Naofumi asked the bird girl who was once more clutching the shield plush.
Like the innocent child she was, Silver just shook her head, "No, Daddy."
Naofumi laughed before groaning a little into his hands, "It's alright… Silvie."

Notes:
Sorry about being a little late with this week! Midterms suck ;-;
Anyway, lemme explain Silver: My goal with her was to make her manipulative towards Naofumi, but actually kind unlike Malty. She's more prone to her emotions other than happiness unlike Filo, she's far more defensively oriented, and she actually takes into consideration how others feel every so often (Did Filo actually ever do that? I genuinely can't remember if she ever did).
I think I did it correctly, but I have no way of knowing if you guys see it as well, so let me know what you think, of Silver and the chapter please!
