I will keep a running list of male to female names as characters are introduced at the end of each chapter.

Harry Potter laid on a bed he had never been on, staring up at a ceiling he had never seen, in a room he didn't recognize. So many things had happened, were happening¸ and he wasn't sure where to even begin processing it.

Riddle's cryptic message, the excitement mixed with sadness as they took the Express, eventually to leave behind friends until the next school year, seeing two people there to greet his sisters, to greet him, the Floo back to their home.

Then it was a whirlwind of unpacking, a brief tour of the house, and finally the boy being left to unpack. He wasn't used to unpacking, never really did so at the Dursley's, and instead placed Hedwigs cage by the window, now opened to fresh air much to her delight, left his trunk at the end of the bed and laid down to stare up at the ceiling.

It felt so wrong, so alien, and yet so right and natural at the same time.

Parents

Sisters

A family

It was all he ever wanted, all he had ever dreamed about, so why…

"Harry?"

A voice ripped into his thoughts, and he was standing in the blink of an eye. James Potter was at the door, a bit of a concerned look in his expression as he watched the reaction. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah!" His response was too quick with too much forced happiness. "I mean… yeah, I think so I just… it's a lot."

The man nodded, "I, well I can't imagine. Your m- Lily might have a better understanding, probably something like going to Hogwarts for the first time maybe. Can I come in?"

It was a request, and it was met with a confused stare from the boy, one that did absolutely nothing to quell the older man's concerns. After a moment Harry seemed to understand, and quickly nodded, "Oh, uh yeah sure I mean it's your house."

"It's also your home Harry, we want you to feel that way, that you belong here just as much as Amaryllis or Harriet do." He took a few steps inside, glancing about as if to make sure everything was the way it should be, before returning his gaze to the preteen. "We furnished it during the school year, thinking you might be back during winter break."

Harry flinched, "Sorry, I just… wasn't ready."

"That's okay, I don't mean to guilt trip you and we certainly aren't angry. This is, well a massive adjustment, I'm sure." He paused, shifting weight between his feet for a moment before speaking once more, "I wanted to talk to you, about what happened with the Dementor."

This time it was the younger of the two who shifted awkwardly, "Sorry, about that. I didn't mean to put myself in the spotlight or anything, especially since it involves Amy and Harriet."

But James merely waved off his apology, "We… I mean your mo- Lily and I, we just wanted you to know how proud we are of you." The statement hit the teen like a bludger to the chest, but the man continued, not realizing the impact his words were having. "Not that you can cast the Patronus, although I have no doubt Lily will be bragging about that to everyone for the next…" he idly checked his watch, "decade or so. No, we are proud because you chose to protect someone, to save a life so naturally. We are proud of you Harry, and I have no doubt that the other James and Lily Potter would be as well."

Harry tried to reply but knew deep down it would come out as broken sobs and so merely nodded instead, wiping away tears with his sleeve.

"… But McGonagall gave me points anyway and suggested I might have inherited some of your talent dad!" Amaryllis excitedly rambled in between bites of food.

Her mother smiled warmly, "That's great sweetheart, what about you Harriet? How did your classes go?" The quieter of the two smiled, though not as largely as her sister.

"Good, I did well in everything, but I think I can improve in Potions and Defense."

This earned a roll of the younger redhead's eyes, "Oh please, you are in the top five of both for Gryffindor, I think only Hermione did better than you in our year."

"Hermione, that was your friend you mentioned, correct?" James inquired, earning an excited nod from Amy once more.

"Yeah, she's great and was friends with Harry in his world too." Her eyes widened, snapping her jaw shut just as Harriet shot her a 'are you serious?' glare.

Both adults stared for a moment, before taking on their own postures that reeked of disappointment, "Amaryllis Lilian Potter, Harriet Lewis Potter what did you do?"

Harry hadn't been on the end of many lectures from a parental figure before, the Dursleys were more of a 'smack him around when he didn't do what they wanted' type, which was why he felt distinctly uncomfortable at that moment. He had witnessed the scoldings given to Ron over the years and they were certainly unpleasant enough.

Plus, they had only acted because of their concern for him.

"It's my fault." He suddenly interrupted, shifting all eight eyes onto him. "I uhm, well I wasn't doing well early in the year, it was tough in Slytherin, and I mentioned Hermione as someone I was friends with from before and who might be able to help them with homework. They only approached her because of me."

Lily sighed, rubbing at the bridge of her nose for a moment before glancing over to her husband, who answered with a shrug. "Thank you for telling us, Harry. Even though we know you are lying about it we appreciate the gesture." The boy's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to respond, how he wasn't quite sure, but was met with a raised hand. "We aren't going to punish anyone, but we need you girls to understand that what you did was reckless and dangerous. If someone had overheard, they could have started spreading rumors and made Harry's life very difficult."

"Yeah, he uhm, well Harry told us that too." Harriet mumbled, with her sister chiming in a second later in agreement, "We won't do it again, we promise."

Their response seemed to alleviate some of the adults' wrath, and the two settled once more before turning towards the third. "So, Harry, how was your year?"

It was such a complicated question that he wasn't sure how to answer it at first. "Good, I guess. I mean my grades were fine even if it feels like I'm cheating since I've done most of this before."

James nodded, "Well that's to be expected, and is unavoidable for now. I trust the professors gave you extra material, so you are learning something at least?"

"Yeah, and it was nice not spending the end of the year in the Hospital Wing after the duel." The last comment was made jokingly but based on the silence it had elicited Harry realized he had said something wrong.

"What duel?" The tone was cold as ice, along with Lily Potter's eyes as she examined the boy, earning a slight flinch. He knew they had been informed of what had occurred, considering they were with him during the Minister incident, but figured they had already been told everything.

Apparently not.

"We were told…" James practically growled, "that you had encountered the thief, and disarmed her without incident. Dumbledore didn't mention anything about a duel."

"I mean…" the boy wasn't quite sure why he was defending the Headmistress, it was partially her fault he had been forced to act anyway, but she had made more of an effort than the male version had. "I went without telling anyone. I figured they would try and steal it but wasn't sure when and I kind of just guessed. I did run into Dumbledore on the way out though, so I only beat them by like… a half-hour, tops?"

The man looked as if he were stuck between wanting to go and murder someone and pull Harry into a hug and never let him go. Lily looked much the same, except there was far more murder in her eyes, undoubtedly aimed at a certain Headmistress.

"You left us"

"You abandoned us"

Harry Potter spun in place, lost in a dark fog, voices calling out from all around him, echoing.

"We needed you and you weren't there"

"We followed you, trusted you and then you disappeared"

He recognized them, his friends.

"You were supposed to be better, supposed to save everyone"

"You couldn't save me, just like you couldn't save your parents"

Sirius and Remus

"Already found a new family, haven't you? Already moved on and forgotten about us, the ones who died for you"

"Abandoned your friends, abandoned everyone just so you could be happy"

His parents

Harry Potter woke up, covered in sweat and out of breath. He was in a room he didn't recognize, in a house that he couldn't remember. Reaching out, he managed to find his glasses despite the room being illuminated only by the moon shining in through a nearby window.

Eyes glancing about he noticed Hedwig sleeping soundly nearby, cage opened because there were no rules about that here.

His heart rate slowed, breath calming.

He was in his room, or at least his temporary one.

Memories returned to him, nightmares began to fade, and tears welled up in his eyes as he brought his knees up to his chest and lowered his head.

The quiet sobs would awaken no one.

***HP:O ***

Despite his nightmares Harry woke early the next day, seemingly before any of the other inhabitants had even stirred. His body moved on autopilot, slipping out of bed, and making his way, silently as had been 'taught' to him by the Dursleys, down to where he remembered the kitchen to be.

Coffee first, it would take the longest to make, then preparing breakfast. Would they rather have eggs and bacon or… "Harry?" The boy froze, half expecting violent repercussions, before his mind reminded him of where he was. "What are you doing up so early?"

The voice was tired, likely just waking up, yet he could still identify it despite the few interactions they had.

"Just… making breakfast."

A silence fell between Harry and Lily Potter, a silence that seemed to stretch on forever and contain so many questions that it would take a lifetime to answer them all. She stepped forward, quietly but with enough intent that she didn't surprise him. "May I… hug you?"

It was a question he hadn't expected, and almost made him break down into sobs. She was supposed to be his mother, was his mother by some regards, and yet she wanted to know if she was allowed to hug him.

Did she understand what he would have given for such a thing in his previous life? What he would have sacrificed for such an opportunity?

He nodded slightly, and a pair of arms wrapped around him from behind, a mess of red hair falling in front of his face as she pressed her own into the top of his head.

"I'm sorry… I'm so, so sorry." She whispered, tears leaking into his messy locks. "I promise you Harry, I promise that your parents never wanted this for you, that they would have fought tooth and nail to keep you from ending up there."

She held him until the sound of footsteps break them apart.

***HP:O ***

"Can we go flying?" Amy practically begged, eyes darting between her two parents as if encouraging one to say yes. Lily glanced over towards her husband, who seemed to be hiding a grin of his own, before letting out a sigh and waving them off.

A cheer echoed through the house as the two bolted for the back yard, followed a bit slower by the two raven-haired children and the older woman. Once outside Harry took in the property that they owned. It must have been Magically enhanced, because the lush green grass seemed to stretch on forever with only a dotting of trees and other plant life. A small wooden shed lay a few meters away, and James Potter had already pulled a few brooms out, handing one to his redhaired daughter who immediately mounted and took to the skies. He approached the others seconds later, and his other daughter took another, albeit with a bit less excitement.

Harry, more on instinct than anything else, took the last offered, before watching the man take off into the air himself.

"James always wanted to play Quidditch," the man's wife explained from next to the boy, "but Hogwarts is rather strict about that sort of thing and not very welcoming to wizards who try."

He merely nodded, thoughts drifting back to his first week at school, both in his own world and this one.

"But he played anyway, didn't he?"

The question brought Lily's attention onto her 'son'. "Yes, he did, mostly with just him and Sirius. They were so excited when they managed to get a full game together, even if it wasn't official."

Harry nodded, "A friend from school, Ron Weasley, he wants to be able to fly and play Quidditch one day. I'm glad it might be possible."

"What about you? Did you ever play?"

Her words forced him to think back through his own years. There had been one game in fifth year, but before that? Fourth was mostly spent worrying about the tournament which really left third. "Not in a long time." He finally answered.

"You should go up with them then, play a bit while it is convenient and easy."

He knew there was still the option of him playing at Hogwarts. He would be skilled enough, but it depended too much on others. Assuming his House would even let him on the team, it then depended on the team captain allowing it and considering the attitudes of the older students he had his doubts.

Sitting on the object he began drifting upwards, his eyes closed as he felt the wind on his face, the sunshine on his skin. He had missed this, the weightless feeling and freedom that came with flying. He climbed up alone, higher than the other three who were passing a quaffle between them.

Up there, high above the world, nothing seemed to bother him. There were no looming threats, no stress about school, no concerns about secrecy or privacy. Up there he wasn't being followed by an obsessed professor, wasn't being relied upon to solve everyone's problems, didn't need to worry about what the future held.

He was just Harry, plain old ordinary, Magical Harry.

His eyes opened, gazing out into the clear skies that stretched on in every direction. He could distantly hear the excitement from the family below, a family that he was both a part of, and separate from. A family that he might never fit in with.

Was it temporary? Were they only sheltering him until he was old enough to move on, fulfilling some vague obligation because of his appearance?

He didn't want to think about that, didn't want to think about anything.

And so, he didn't, instead he leaned forward and dropped.

***HP:O ***

Lily Potter watched her daughters and husband zip around happily and felt her heart swell with pride and joy. Not only for the two girls, but the man as well. He was able to share his gifts with their children, and see the joy on their faces as they embraced it.

Her smile only dipped when she thought about the newest addition to their family, Harry. She knew it wasn't going to be an overnight change, not for any of them, but James and her mentalities had changed faster than she originally anticipated.

Clearing out their seldomly used office for an extra bedroom had been an obvious choice. Their dining room table had already been large enough for guests, so adding on another chair was a simple task. Extra furniture was also easy to come buy during the early months of the school year.

It was only after everything was finished that she realized how natural it felt. It didn't feel as though they were adopting a new child or 'making space', it felt like he was coming home, as if the space had always been his, but he had been absent.

That absence hadn't really struck home until the holiday break, when two girls had stepped off the train looking far from excited as the other children did. Their first meal as a family had been quiet, almost sullen. The two adults had lied to themselves in thinking it had been something school related, that maybe they were missing friends or had a few bad classes before being excused.

But it wasn't true, and the emptiness only grew. They were missing something, someone. Maybe they always had been, maybe there was always a hole in their family that had been covered up with excuses and denials.

When Harry had first arrived, when they had met him, everything had changed and now she wasn't sure she could ever go back. A loud cheer brought her back to the present, and she smiled once more, watching as Amaryllis applauded her sister for catching something that must have required a bit of finesse.

Then she frowned, because Harry wasn't with them. She knew he had gone up, had he landed without her noticing? Did he feel left out still? Were they bringing up memories of his past life, one that she wanted to know everything about and was absolutely terrified at the thought of?

It was at that moment she spotted him, and the woman breathed a sigh of relief, before noticing something that froze the blood in her veins. He was flying fast, too fast, and even more frightening was the fact he was heading down as in towards the very solid ground. Her hand went instinctively for her Wand but came up empty. She hadn't brought it with her, why hadn't she brought it with her!? There wasn't enough time to grab it, he would hit before then. She could only stand watching in panic as he continued closer and closer towards impact.

Far off she heard another shout, her husband had seen as well but he wasn't close enough, none of them were. Her limbs were frozen, she forgot how to breathe, dreading what would happen but being unable to look away.

He pulled up at the last second, maybe even past the last second, and she swore his robes dragged across the grass for a moment before he continued the turn, shifting into a spin in what she could only call 'controlled chaos'. Moments, though it felt like a lifetime, later he slowed before coming to a halt and dismounting as if he hadn't just pulled a death-defying maneuver.

When she had started racing across the lawn, Lily Potter wasn't sure, but suddenly there was a young boy wrapped up in her arms, messy hair underneath her as she pulled him close, nearly crushing him.

He tensed, she knew he did, but it seemed trivial compared to what had just happened, what had almost happened. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

There was no response, and she pulled back, but keeping his arms firmly held as she took in his appearance, looking for traces of pain or bruises, of blood or broken bones. Physically, he was fine, although there was a look of confusion on his face.

"Thank God you are okay, I was so worried."

He continued staring, even as another body landed seconds later behind her, James rushing up as well. "Is he okay? Is he hurt? I'll go grab some potions and…"

"I'm fine." The boy's response hadn't been angry or annoyed, just rushed out as if he had finally found the ability to speak. "I am, promise. I didn't mean to worry you."

Before either could respond the two girls landed nearby. "That… was… AWESOME! Did you see that, Harriet? The way he dove, the way he turned! I didn't even know you could do that on a broom! You have to teach me how to…" Amy's excitement was quickly ended with the two glares given to her by her parents. "Uh… I mean…"

"Maybe some slower pointers." Harry suggested meekly, "I don't want you getting hurt or anything."

"Harry, why did…"

James trailed off, before shaking his head at not knowing what to say exactly. But the younger male seemed to catch the meaning, "I didn't think it was a big deal, I've been flying that way since my first year and no one's ever said anything. I accidentally swallowed my first snitch after all."

Amaryllis laughed, as did Harriet, albeit a bit more hesitantly. Lily forced a smile and when she glanced at her husband out of the corner of her eye, she saw he had done the same.

***HP:O ***

The knocking that echoed through the home was quickly interrupted by the sound of a young girl running, followed by her mother calling after her to slow down. Seconds later the front door was pulled open, "HERMIONE!" Amaryllis cheered in joy, pulling the bushy-haired witch in for a quick hug before dragging her back into the house.

Lily just managed to step out of the way, slightly fearful her daughter would knock her over in the excitement. "Slow down sweetheart, you don't need to pull her around." But the command fell on deaf ears and the two vanished a second later as they went back towards the room that had been setup for them.

Turning back towards the front door, the redhead shook her head before smiling warmly at the two adults still standing there. "Mrs. and Mr. Granger, how are you? Would you like to come inside for some tea?" Smiling, Hermione's mom nodded and the two entered, eying the handful of Magical objects scattered around the house with wonder even as they were led into the kitchen for seating. "I'm sorry about my daughter, she can get a bit excited at times. Luckily, Harriet is upstairs as well and serves as a nice buffer."

The other woman merely shook her head, "Don't be, I'm so thankful for your daughters. When Hermione was young, she didn't fit in very well. There aren't any children her age in our neighborhood and her closest relative is almost a decade older than her. When we found out about Hogwarts, we were hoping this would be a chance, a chance for her to find those she could connect with, make friends with, but we were still scared. When we visited the school though, when we heard about how she was friends with not one but two girls we were just so relieved."

Mrs. Granger pulled out a tissue and dabbed the tears forming in her eyes away, allowing time for her husband to chime in. "We were even more surprised when we heard about your son."

James interrupted as he walked into the room having been setting up the room for the girls' moments prior. "What about Harry?"

The other man quickly amended his statement, "Nothing bad I promise, but Hermione has always been shy around boys, especially those her own age. When she mentioned she was friends with Harry we were just a bit shocked is all."

Nodding, James Potter took a seat in one of the empty chairs, taking a cup of tea that his wife offered without thought. "Yeah, Harry has a habit of shocking people, that's for sure."

"Is he in the other room with them?"

James, however, shook his head at the other woman's question, "No, he's upstairs doing some studying. He wanted the girls to have some time to themselves."

There was more than a little confusion, and a bit of suspicion in the Grangers' eyes, leading to the redheaded woman continuing the explanation. "Harry is in strange situation. He didn't… grow up with us, in fact we only met him last summer."

"Met him? Like through adoption?"

"No, no he's our son but… well it's very complicated. I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'there are two sides to every story'? Well in this case they are the one we told the public, and the real one that we kept private for their safety and privacy."

Looking at each other for a split second, Mrs. Granger cleared her throat before leaning forward for added privacy, "Is he… okay?"

It was a loaded question, and it took all of Lily's willpower not to shake her head. Instead, her husband answered for her. "Some days we aren't sure."

***HP:O ***

The original plan, at least for a certain boy-who-lived, was to give his sisters and Hermione the afternoon to themselves, then after dinner spend some time with them. The bookworm, he knew, needed friends, needed those who wanted to spend time with her and shared her interests.

It lasted for less than an hour before someone knocked on his bedroom door. Answering, he found all three girls waiting on the other side and before he could even ask what was wrong the redhead had grabbed his arm and practically dragged him to the back yard. All the while the other two had continued their conversation while asking for his input as well.

Thus, the four sat on a small picnic table, enjoying the sunshine and warm weather while drinking lemonade. "So, Hermione, how has your summer reading been?"

Said girl immediately perked up and began to explain the books she had already read, and those she had set aside for reading each month. Harriet, naturally, followed on attentively, even making comments and suggestions.

Amaryllis, Harry noted, began to doze off a bit, earning a snort from the boy. During a lull in the conversation, he turned to the redhead and pulled her into the conversation just as she had dragged him in prior. "What about you Amy, what books are you planning to read this summer?"

He had tried to force a serious face, to look completely innocent, but she glared at him in response regardless. "Quidditch Throughout the Ages."

The other two girls frowned, pushing Harry's control over his laughter to the maximum. "Oh? What about the lengthy text on Potion ingredients and their uses that Snape had suggested? That doesn't catch your interest?"

Amy responded as any well-mannered and proper eleven-year-old would, by sticking her tongue out at the boy.

Harriet looked ready to reply, but whether it was to chastise her sister or not she was interrupted by the two adults stepping outside. "There you four are. We spoke to your parents Hermione, and they were fine with you spending the night if you still want to. If not, we can always take you home later."

"Thank you, Mrs. and Mr. Potter, I would love to stay over if that is okay." The adults nodded, Amaryllis cheered, and the two remaining Potters smiled.

The conversations continued, with the two parents sitting outside and enjoying the weather at a comfortable distance from the four, until Hermione asked a question that had been bothering her for some time.

"Harry, you said that we were friends before. How did we meet?"

He blinked, before smiling warmly at the memories. "Well, technically we met on the train our first year, but we were also sorted into Gryffindor together."

"Is that normal? For boys and girls to spend time with each other in your world? It seems sort of rare in ours." Harriet inquired, earning a shrug from the boy.

"It's more normal, I guess. We had about the same number of both in our school. There was also an… incident and we sort of bonded over that."

Before anyone could inquire further, a certain over-excitable redhead made her own guess. "Did the troll show up early for you?"

There was no missing the startled gasps from the adults nearby, nor the shaking of her sister's head along with a muttered, "Seriously Amy?"

"What. Troll."

And even if Harry's mind could race as quickly as Hermione's he very much doubted an idea would come to him fast enough to change the topic.

***HP:O ***

Lily's body was tense, beyond tense, mostly due to the revelations of what went on at Hogwarts. Harry's first year, and despite him claiming it had been considerably better, and safer, in this new universe there were still far too many similarities.

It also didn't help knowing what he had been forced to go through without siblings or parents to fall back on.

Thus, she sat on the bed, staring at the wall across from her while her husband finished brushing his teeth in their attached bathroom. Moments later he walked in, and obviously noticed her distress. "Still thinking about today?" She nodded, and the man sighed before sitting down next to her, "Hell of a lot to take in, isn't it?"

"Is it wrong that I don't want him going back there? That I don't want any of them going back?"

"No," he replied almost immediately, "I think that is the correct thing to want, but I also don't think it is the right decision." A lull in conversation followed which was ended when a small smile crossed the man's face, "Do you remember right before we went shopping with the girls? I was so afraid that Harriet wouldn't be able to make friends, that she would end up sitting alone in her room. I had been so scared she would lock herself away with her books, and you said…"

"That you were being ridiculous and that we both knew Amaryllis would drag her out if she had to. That she would sit with her sister every day at lunch and force her into into her circle of friends if need be."

James smiled, "Then you were afraid that Amy wouldn't take her studies seriously, that she would spend all of her time with friends goofing around and I had to remind you that Harriet would badger her every day until she studied and would go over every topic until she figured it out."

This time it was the woman's turn to grin. "And now we have Harry, who we know would do anything to protect them, and I have a feeling that they would die to protect him as well."

"Not to mention making sure he has friends. I was so worried about that."

Lily gave a quick nod before falling silent once more. Moments later she broke it, "I suppose the one good thing to come out of all of this is that we have the best bragging rights of any parent ever."

The man snorted, "Are you kidding me? 'Oh, your daughter became a Prefect? Well, my son cast the Patronus Charm in his first year'."

His wife spoke next, "What's that Lady Malfoy? Your daughter made the Quidditch team? How lovely. Oh, my son the one you called a failure? He dueled a professor to protect an incredibly dangerous artifact from falling into the wrong hands while he was in his first year… and he won. Shove that up your pompous ass you bitch."

Her words, inadvertently, reminded him of another concern he had been struggling with for some time. "We need to talk about something."

Lily turned towards him, and her triumphant smile fell a bit at his expression. Whatever it was, it was beyond serious.

"With everything that's happened lately, with him being in the paper and probably the talk of Hogwarts… we are going to start receiving inquiries."

Now her mood was sufficiently soured, "They can take their 'inquiries' and shove them up their…"

"Love, I know you don't like certain parts of Magical society and I understand this, really I do, but it doesn't change what is going to happen regardless of our decisions. We need to start thinking about how to respond." He immediately pressed his finger to her lips, somehow knowing that what she was going to say wouldn't be appropriate or productive, "Properly, telling interested parties to bugger off is not going to help anyone, especially our children."

The anger deflated from her body almost instantly, "You're right… and I hate you for it."

"You love me, and you know it."

***HP:O ***

A few weeks into the summer and Harry had nearly finished what little homework he had been assigned. It was during one of those quiet periods when a voice called to him from the front room. "Harry, you have a package in the mail."

The declaration gave him pause, but he shrugged it off as he stood, figuring it might be something from one of his friends or maybe even Sirius, whom he had yet to meet. Making his way into the room he noticed his sisters eying the object curiously, while James and Lily were both smiling as if they already knew what it was.

Then, anxiety reared its ugly head as he got a better look at the package.

Green and silver paper covered a rectangular object, one that had no information on the sender, the same as his mysterious Christmas present.

***HP:O ***

A/N: So, I didn't realize until writing the first section of this chapter, but I doubt anyone ever asked Harry for permission to enter a room he was in before. The Dursley's sure as hell wouldn't have, he never had friends over, shared a room at Hogwarts, and I think the only time he would have had privacy would be sharing a room with only Ron at Grimmauld Place.
