On July 4th, 2010, Euan Abercrombie attended a Fourth of July fireworks show by himself.

Euan enjoyed fireworks and was just planning to enjoy his Fourth of July celebration.

Little did he know that attending this fireworks show would inspire the biggest decision of his life.

As Euan watched the beautiful and patriotic red, white, and blue fireworks light up the night sky, a light went off in Euan's brain.

As spectacular, as awesome, as patriotic, as beautiful, as bright as these fireworks were, they would not be the brightest thing in Euan's life that July.

Euan was due to become a first time father in a week and his insides glowed at the thought of welcoming his daughter into the world.

"There is nothing that can bring brighter light than fatherhood, " thought Euan to himself, "My daughter will be my brightest light from the nanosecond she comes into this world. But how shall I name my little girl?"

Euan thought to himself.

"I'd like for my daughter to possess a name that reflects the fact that she is going to be my brightest light ever, " thought Euan, "How can I represent that within her name?"

Simply naming his daughter "light" or "bright" was out.

Those would be awkward names to for a child to bear.

The good news was that Euan had done his research.

As soon as he knew that his baby to be was going to be a daughter, Euan poured over volume after volume about girls' names and their meanings.

Euan racked his brains to see if he could remember any girls' names that meant "light".

A few raced through his mind. But his face glowed brighter than the fireworks he was watching in the sky when his mind landed on one particular name.

'HELEN!" cried Euan to himself.

As it so happened, Euan was a Quidditch junkie. His favorite professional Quidditch player was Helen Help, a Chaser for the Montrose Magpies known much more for her passing than for her goal scoring.

"It's a win-win, " thought Euan radiantly, "I can name my daughter after my Favorite Quidditch player AND still give her a name with the meaning I want. Helen means "light, bright. Any father would consider his child(ren) the brightest light in his life."

This was PERFECT.

Euan could honor his Quidditch hero, Helen Help, while still being true to the meaning he wanted his daughter's name to have.

His insides glowing, Euan contently watched on as the fireworks show played itself out.

This had been Euan's best Fourth of July ever.

It had started with Euan, a bona fide fireworks lover, just looking forward to that night's celebration.

As Euan left the fireworks show after it had ended and returned home, the glow on his insides blew the glow of the fireworks he had seen that night out of the water.

As bright as those fireworks, were, they paled in comparison to what was to come for Euan.

As he went to bed that night, Euan's last thought before falling asleep was, "Helen Abercrombie, my heart is sparkling at the anticipation of you becoming my brightest light."
