Carrie must juggle between helping Allyson and her Grandmother and being loyal to Sue and her family.
Allyson argued with her grandmother after dropping Carrie off, everything she had witnessed made her believe in miracles, she was certain they found Carrie for a reason, but Allyson wanted the vengeful woman to remember that this was a girl and not just a weapon.
"We should bring her back here on the weekend, see what she's capable of. I have some ideas. I just wonder what else she's able to levitate, what size...if it matters."
"She told me she only discovered this power a year ago, she keeps it hidden," Allyson interjected into her grandmother's ranting, she was all around the hidden room she had under the kitchen checking what supplies she had.
"Those days are going to have to be over."
"We still have to consider her family finding out about this."
"Who cares? She's 18, right? She can do what she wants."
"She doesn't want them to worry about her. I mean if more people see her doing that who's to say the government won't show up and take her away?"
Laurie rolled her eyes, "You've seen too many movies."
"I just don't want her to get hurt," Allyson frowned.
"Then why did you bring her here?" Allyson didn't know how to answer that, she watched her grandmother check her box of shells, bullet proof vests and other supplies, "I can't have anyone soft. Look, she seems like a nice girl, probably sheltered her whole life, never got to experience any real interaction until now..."
"Just don't push her away," Allyson said, trying to reason with her elder; she knew she wasn't just the cold-hearted drill sergeant she made herself look like on the surface.
"Either she helps us or she gets out of our way. We're not here to make friends."
Allyson heard how she pushed her mother Karen into training for a fight that might never come against the Boogeyman, but it happened, and it almost ruined their lives.
Carrie gave them an open window to train; she told them she made an excuse to be alone from her family for at least a couple hours. Laurie had the mannequins positioned all around the backyard for Carrie to practice on but those first two days were brutal as Carrie held back from harming the faceless inanimate objects, she would only do so much as give them a slight push with her ability, no stronger than a light breeze. Laurie was patient with, but Allyson knew this was killing her, she'd say, "Ok. Let's try it again", "Not bad", "Almost there". But on the third day Laurie snapped, Allyson was horrified when she got in Carrie's face and yelled at her like a hardened general, she didn't see it but she knew Carrie had to be on the verge of tears. Allyson intervened, she took her grandmother aside and explained she would help her.
Carrie stood there in the middle of the yard with her head down, she jumped when she felt someone come up behind her, Allyson explained that her grandmother meant well but this was very important to her. She helped Carrie aim her hand at one of the mannequins, she let her rest her body into hers; not too bad, it reminded Carrie of snuggling up with Sue, which she had been doing a lot of lately. Carrie felt Allyson's warm breath on the back of her neck, she whispered something into her ear that sounded like, "Release." She could feel her whole body pressed into her back, her breasts cushioned her; she was taller than her, just like Sue, just like a lot of the girls. She acted so brave, so strong but also playful. Carrie felt comfortable, she let go, using her powers like she was taking a breath of fresh air, it lifted one of the mannequins off the ground and summersaulted it into a tree. Laurie checked on it, laughing once she found the head nearly fully decapitated. Not the greatest but a start.
Allyson wanted to take Carrie out, celebrate that they were closer in stopping the curse that shook Haddonfield for over 40 years.
"What did you tell your family you were doing?"
"I said it was community work, mainly just research and painting banners."
"Sounds like something my family would buy," Allyson laughed.
Allyson saw Carrie was a bit on edge when they arrived at the diner they were at previously.
"Are you ok?"
"Yes."
"Hey there's the booth we sat in last time, no one's there," Allyson pointed out from the car.
"Great...," Carrie said, biting her lip bottom lip.
No reason for Sue to be around, she was getting something at the mall and then going right home to study; Carrie just didn't want to upset her, she could feel a knot tie tight enough in her stomach already.
"Hey, what's your favorite milkshake?" Allyson asked just as Carrie sat down.
Carrie didn't want to lie again, "Strawberry."
"Awesome. One of mine too."
Allyson went over to the counter to order, Carrie was going to stop her but decided just let her, she had been so nice to her today, she stood up for her when it was getting ugly with her grandmother. Allyson returned to the booth with a single strawberry milkshake, she looked kind of embarrassed, "Hey, I guess they didn't have enough for two, did you want to share?"
Carrie smiled, "Sure."
Sue had just bought a new top, she knew Carrie would love it, maybe it could be for both of them; all she really cared about right now was getting home to her. She hit the intersection and noticed she could see her and Carrie's usual booth in the diner window; funny it looked like Carrie was sitting in it...with someone else! At first, she thought she had to be seeing things but no there was Carrie sitting in their booth with that girl from Haddonfield again and they were sharing a strawberry shake! 'How dare she!" Sue thought, 'That's our thing!' She had half a mind to go in there and put a stop to this, but she decided to take a deep breath and think this through. She tracked down which car belonged to that priss, the station wagon with the Haddonfield bumper sticker on it was a dead giveaway, she snapped a picture of the license plate, that should be enough but she wasn't satisfied, she wanted to do something to the car but nothing too horrible; wasn't like she had anything on her to slash her tires anyhow, she knew it was stupid and petty but keying her car seemed like it would send the right message. She was quick and ran back to her car, she never felt a rush like that, it felt good but it developed into a sudden sickening thought about Chris being proud of her for that. But oh well, that was over with, she wanted to stick around a bit just to see the look on that girl's face, but she had to prepare herself to confront Carrie later about her afterschool activities.
To be continued!
