This is a different account and an entirely different post? fanfiction? Document? whatever you call it.
Well thing is, I broke my phone like immediately after stating things were getting troubled in my life. And with that phone, I lost the email address that I used for the account I published the original Re:different on.
So, here I am on my new account publishing a new and hopefully better Re:different. Yes, this will be a complete remake as the last one kind of sucked. It was just a retelling of the original story, with some things ever so slightly changed. Though yes it was true to the premise I never really took it anywhere. So this time around, we're gonna change things up beyond some different checkpoints.
So then, I hope you enjoy the newly recreated remake of Re:different, by yours truly the original creator. Have fun (I hope)

(Quick editors note: I realized how much this might seem as a Subaru x Felt fic, which it is not. So uh, yeah, just keep that in mind- oh and because Lugnica's currency is wonky and weird lets say each coin is 100 to one, so 1 holy coin would be 100 gold coins. Just so its easier for me.)
(Another editors note: Ok, so, went through the entire document again on phone. I am pretty sure I fixed every typo and broken sentance, so this SHOULD be the best version of the chapter. I hope.)
"this is how they get you hooked? Seriously?"
Said a certain 17 year old boy in a gas station, flipping through the pages of a random manga he had chosen through the assortments of various manga. It was an isekai, the generic power trip story of a guy who gets teleported to a different world, gifted with some super power and then given a harem of women who love him for no real reason. According to a friend from... a long time ago the way they get you hooked is by the magic system and the world... But, this is just some generic magic system and world. The main character can use all magic types even though they're supposed to be restricted to two so what's even the point of the restriction in the first place?
He thought as he placed it back into the slot it was in before he had taken it out. He looked out of the window Infront of him..
"Gosh its dark"
He noted to himself, he couldn't even see anything, there was a street lamp but it was barely working and it was flickering. Nothing was outside either, or he just couldn't see whatever it was that was outside. He turned around and looked at the contents of his bag, cup noodles, some chips and a bottle of water. Was there anything else he needed? Maybe a manga that doesn't suck? He dismissively shook his hand as he thought no, he could just order something that he specifically searched for at home.
He walked up to the counter, not saying a word to the cashier as he placed the plastic bag and all of its contents on the register. They said their generic forced greeting, a hello, wishing you a good day and smiling. Something about the forced smiles people at restaurants or cashiers would be forced to do always put him off, it made him feel.. nostalgic, even though he had never forced himself to smile or show an emotion he didn't felt. Whether it were for worse or better. He sighed as he heard them tell them how much it costed, he nodded and handed over a couple of bills and took what small sum of coins were handed back to him. He put the coins away into his pocket before he grabbed the plastic bag from the register and left. Just ignoring whatever forced farewell the worker was needed to say.
He walked over to the two automatic sliding doors, the doors opening with a small chime as they did. He walked outside, taking small glances to his sides to check for muggers.. As if he had anything someone wanted. He chuckled to himself as he turned to the right and began making his way to his bus stop. Looking at the cars that would drive by, he wondered why people would even be driving at such a late time. Maybe it was the same reason he had... to go "grocery" shopping at a gas station? No, definitely not. He sighed as he made it to the bus stop, he took out his phone and looked at the time, then at when the bus would arrive. Just 2 minutes, seems like he's in luck. Now hopefully the bus isn't late, all he can do for that is hope unfortunately. And it seems his wishes were granted as he saw the bus from a far distance, so he waited the minutes it would take for it arrive.
Looking up from the ground when he heard the loud screeches of the bus slowing down to stop for him. He stood up and walked over to the front doors, waiting for them to open. With a loud release of gas or steam, he wasn't sure which, the doors opened. He took one step up to get inside the bus, but unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you view it, that boy would never make it home on that fated day. No, for this is the story of a lone boy sent to a different world with nothing but a grocery bag and a phone. And the hell that world would put him through.
Dawn of the first day
He would be blinded by a bright flash of light as he stepped into the bus. He would trip a little, as when he stopped his foot at the elevated height he wouldn't rest that foot on the metal ground of the bus, no, instead he would fall Infront of himself a little as he exited a dirty and dark alleyway. He stopped for second, staring at his hands, then behind himself at the alleyway, then up at the sky which was bright. He brought his hands up to his eyes and rubbed them with his fists. He then looked again, and over his shoulder. Nothing changed, no bus, no night, no bus stop or road. He rubbed his eyes again, still, nothing at all had changed.
"WHERE AM I?!"
A couple of children were looking at him through the windows of their houses. He was making a scene, even if he was in a mass state of panic and worry he should probably try to divert attention and not bring attention to himself. He went back into the alleyway of which he came from. He then sat down on the ground and tried to collect his thoughts. 'Where am I? Well, I'm certainly not in japan anymore. The buildings around me don't look very modern, they actually look run down so... Maybe its not the modern era?' He sighed as he pulled his hands across his face. Why wasn't he more worried? Everything he knew is gone! He won't get to see his home, or read the rest of those mangas or finish that visual novel... He won't get to see his parents.
He reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out his flip phone and went through his contacts, as if he would ever get anyone else's number than his parents. He looked at the pictures on their contacts, this phone has a limited battery source.. He probably shouldn't use it a lot otherwise he'd forget his parents. Would he seriously forget his parents? There's no way he'll just sit in this world like last time and forget his parents.
He stood up from the place he had sat on in the alleyway 'Best thing to do in a foreign environment is check your surroundings.. I think' He thought as he looked around, he took a peek at the way he had just went, two kids were still staring at him. Peeping through the broken windows of their house. He's not going down that path again. He went the other way looking around it looked like more of the same. Run down and dirty houses littered about as he looked around. Out of all places why was he put into the slums of the country? He definitely wasn't getting a job here, though, the people might be desperate enough to hire a man without a resume or identity. Maybe just maybe, but maybe isn't gonna do much. Is he gonna have to steal from others to live? He could sell the stuff in his bag but he needs the food and water... maybe his phone? No. Completely out of the question there's no way he'll put it up for sale.
Though, it's still a good idea to see how much his items would go up for. After all, maybe since they're one of a kind they'd be sold for a super high price and he'd be rich... 'Who are you kidding..' he sighed as he closed his eyes as the silence was broken by someone speaking up.
"Hey, you look lost. Least ya don't look like you belong here. Take the wrong turn while heading to the castle or something?"
He opened his eyes quickly and looked over, a man who looked rather relaxed had just asked if he was lost.. which he definitely was. But the last comment is what peaked his curiosity, why would he be going to a castle? That's what royalty and nobility would do, he certainly doesn't look like either... Right? Another thing, the guy had, two big cat ears on the top of his head... 'Is he wearing.. cat ears?'
"Cat got your tongue or something? I swear I'm not that dirty!"
"Oh, sorry about that. Uh, as it seems I actually am lost... I'm not from here, or anywhere near this kingdom."
"Really? Where are you from?"
"Cant exactly say, what's important is that I can't go back and that I need a way to get money."
"Slow down friend, you're in the slums. fifth district of the great kingdom of Lugnica.. Great my ass. Anyways, it sounds like you're pretty much out of options huh?"
"Yeah, please tell me you have something I could do!"
"Hmm, nah, out of luck it seems brother. Though you could probably sell some of your items away at old man Roms shop."
"I can't do that it's just food and some water. I'll die without it!"
"Then you really are out of luck brother, maybe try your luck around the place?.. You could always steal, this is the slums after all. It's what they expect of us!"
"Sure.. I'm gonna head the other way and see if someone has a way for me to get money. Have a nice day-"
He said in a hurry as he ran into a nearby alleyway, seems like hiding in alleyways are gonna be a reoccurring thing huh? He sighed as he facepalmed again, dragging them across his face as he thought of ideas on how to get money and not sleep on the street like the homeless person he is. Maybe he should steal? But these people are probably just in as bad circumstances as him... Well, actually, probably not.. but close enough. 'Stealing will be the last thing I try..' if things come to worse, taking from those as unfortunate as you may be the only way to live. Thankfully he was taken out from his depressive thoughts as he heard a bunch of quick steps nearby. He opened his eyes and looked at the end of the alleyway where the footsteps were coming from.
He watched a tiny girl stop a full sprint by the alleyway and dash into the alleyway he was in. She had short yellow hair with a ponytail at the top of her head tied by a small bow. The rest of her clothes looked ragged and torn, especially towards her legs, I mean one of her legs just isn't even covered by clothes and she just has a little strip of black clothing across her chest as a bra. Is this what poverty looks like? Poor girl, probably has to work for a livi-
"Haha! Sucks to suck~ look at all this!"
Said the small girl in a happy and prideful tone as she looked at a small bag full of assumedly stolen goods. She took out one of the jewels which confirmed that she probably stole them. She looked at the jewel putting it up to her hand. A diamond shaped ruby with gold around the sides of it, he could see it shine and sparkle in her hand. Even though it was rather dark, it still sparkled. It would definitely sell for quite the large sum of money, but hearing her tone she probably hadn't gotten them through any legal means. Unless this kingdom let's people just steal things then it'd probably be fine.
"Now, I'm just going out on a whim here"
He said as he took a step towards the girl. The girl going "eep" as her body recoiled backwards. He probably startled her, but she steals for a living she probably wouldn't be scared of much. Well... maybe she would be scared of a stranger talking to her in a dark alleyway but hey what's the worst that could happen right? He was now Infront of her, his hands on his sides as he gave the girl a stern look.
"I don't suppose those belong to you, right?"
"...That's all? Haha! What are you some run away noble? Hey, how about this, you go away and I don't steal your goods too!"
He stared at the girl. 'Was I this rebellious at her age? There's no way, definitely not. And what's with everyone thinking I'm a noble?! Are nobles shut ins in this kingdom or something?! Whatever, back to the matter at hand.'
"I'm not a noble, I'm probably poorer than you! I'm flat broke, actually. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna go around stealing from people! You should give that back."
"And I should do that why exactly? So the higher class can keep stepping over all of us in the slums? You live in the slums too don't you? Everyone here hates the upper class because they hate us too"
'Ah, the classic tale of robin hood. Though uh, this time its some kid that probably isn't giving it back to the poor any time soon.'
"Compelling story, but do you think stealing from them is gonna fix anything long term? They'll just hate "us" people in the slums more if we start stealing all their things."
"I- ugh, alright dude I'm not here to hear life lessons from a stranger in a dark alleyway. We live in the slums and this is how we make money, there's no jobs here for other people that aren't super shady or sketchy that'll get you or someone else killed. This is the best way to make money, because its the only way. No one hires people from the slums, and you know that. And, don't compare me to the people here. I'm gonna make it out of this place."
'No I didn't- craaap am I really gonna have to steal to live? This girl has quite the compelling story here.. Well.. She probably isn't lying.. is this the only way?'
"I suppose you have a good point, maybe that's why I'm flat broke.. well I apologize for before. Now, well, uh you wouldn't mind maybe letting me help so I can get a bit of money and not starve to death? I don't have anything I could sell to anyone, it's just food and some water."
'Not all of that was true.. gotta keep up the façade of me living here..'
"Haha see who's down on their knees begging for help from the very person they were harassing!"
"But I'm standi-"
The girl put a finger up to her lips and went "ab bab bab!" you know the sound- anyways she said it with a cocky grin and look on her face.
"You want that job don't you?~"
She said in a cocky tone as he sighed out of frustration. This girl was so full of herself, but the boy had just been trying to tell her to stop doing the thing that he now wants her to let him help her with. So some cockiness is allowed in these situations, unfortunately for the boy, that is. He crossed his arms and looked down at her.
"Yes, I do."
"Good, then be quiet and follow me, I gotta go back to old man Roms shop and hand him the goods. Then we can go take what we deserve!"
"Do we deserve i-"
"Hey! What did I say?"
He quieted down, the girl giggled happily and contently with a cocky grin as she began walking, the boy following close behind while grumbling, arms still crossed. Welp, not even an hour in and he's already lost all control of the outcome of his life. Well, you've gotta do what you gotta do to get money. And unfortunately, this is what he has to do to make money. The girl turned around, walking backwards with a small smile on her face as she held her hands behind her back, she looked up at the annoyed boy.
"So, what's your name? If we're gonna be working together we should know each other's names right?"
"I'm glad you asked! My name is Natauki Subaru, I am flat broke and now I'm stealing for a living!"
Ah, Subaru is his name. Oh right, Subaru did a little cheerful pose with a smile at the end of the introduction. The girl laughed for a good couple seconds before looking back up at Subaru.
"Haha! Don't say it like that, you sound even more hopeless that way! But its nice being acquainted with you Subaru, my name is Felt and I, I... I, uh, hm. I steal from the rich and keep it for myself!... Not as funny as when you did it."
Said Felt with a bit of a disappointed pout as Subaru now laughed at her poor attempt at introductions.
"Nah, it was great! Don't beat yourself up over an introduction. Also, are you friends with old man Rom? I haven't actually met him myself. Otherwise I'd probably know who you are."
"Mhm, he's the only family I've got left! Parents siblings whatever, they went ahead and either died or left me behind so I care about old man Rom a whole lot, so you better not annoy him or you'll deal with this!"
Before Subaru could realize suddenly the girl was Infront of him, with a small short sword or some sort of dagger pointed at his neck. Subaru took a step back and choked on air from surprise as he put his hands up.
"I won't annoy your old man-"
"good."
With a small "hehe" Felt went back to walking, and Subaru went back to following her next to her. When the hell are they gonna make it to that damned shop and where did she hide that sword? Oh wait it's on her hip.. Subaru you're Blind. He was knocked out of his thoughts as she turned around yet again, another question?
"So what's with the looks?"
"..What?"
"You say you're here from the slums but you certainly don't look like it do you? You aren't dirty, and you don't look like you're poor. So, where are you from Subaru?"
'Wow, she saw right through me. Am I that bad at lying?'
"Well, uh. Would you believe me if I said I'm from the west most country?"
'Everything else has been similar to that stupid manga, this better wor-'
"Lugnica is the most West kingdom though."
"EAST! I meant east, yes, I'm from the east."
"You're from Kararagi?"
"Yup."
"I guess that'd explain the clothes and the looks. But, how can you be flat broke? Kararagi is famous for their finance."
[Insert glass shattering sound]
"Well... Would you believe me if I said I spent all my savings on a bad deal that got me into here and I spent the remaining money on the food inside this bag?"
"I would... but now that you're saying it like that, not so much"
"W-wait believe me please I'm not lying- I wouldn't lie to my employer!"
"Haha I'm just kidding, are you that easily Flustered Subaru?"
"No definitely not. Whatever, uh, when are we gonna be there? At your grandpas shop or whatever he is to you."
"Well it's right down the corner, and stop being so impatient we've only been walking for 5 minutes. If you're this lazy I might have to fire you, there's a lot of running in this job."
"Hey, don't threaten me like that. I know what you're trying to do!"
'No the hell I don't-'
"I'm just teasing you Subaru, I'm teasing you haha"
She said as she turned the corner with a laugh, Subaru sighing and turning the corner as well. Felt had ran over to a rather large building at the end of a pathway. She was smirking, her arms crossed as she waited by the doors. She waved at Subaru when he turned the corner.
"Over here! Come on slow poke!"
Turning around, while waiting for Subaru she knocked on the door. Subaru made it over to the door next to her and just when he made it over and next to her, he took a breath as if he was about to talk but he was cut off by a voice coming from behind the door.
"For a rat?"
"Poison"
"For the white whale?"
"A harpoon"
"To the noble dragon, we are?"
"Shitbags"
'That's uh, quite the title for yourself huh? Well, least I'm not the only self demeaning one. haha.'
The door opened, a rather big old white haired man opened the door. Felt walked in casually and right before the guy closed the door Subaru put his hand between the door.
"Hey wai- OW AHH"
He ripped his hand out from the space between the door, maybe this is the reason why people don't use their hands to stop doors. The door was opened again, just enough for assumedly old man Rom to peek through.
"And who are are you?"
"I'm Natsuki Subar-"
"I meant what you're trying to do here."
"Oh, I'm here to work with Felt."
The door closed, he could hear the faint sound of two voices bickering at each other before Rom opened the door again, fully. Enough for Subaru to walk in, he also stepped to the side so he could well, you know, walk in.
"Come on in then boy."
Subaru walked inside, staring at the hulking man that was old man Rom. With a title like that he was more so expecting a small and frail grandpa like guy.. Not a God damn ogre! But well, it was rude to stare. He also looked away because he gave him a scary look, he's not trying to die and Felt also did the other threat of slicing him in two with that sword of hers so haha no.
"Rom! Rom come look at what I got!"
She said excited as Rom got behind the bar counter, grabbing a small glass of milk and handing it to her. Subaru sat next to her and looked at her kind of confused while she downed the milk. Rom looked through the bag of jewels she had stolen with a small smile of excitement on his face when he saw the gemstones and gold.
"You really landed us quite the jackpot didn't you Felt."
"Mhm! And now I have a worker that'll do half the work for me for free!"
"For free?! Hey I'm doing this for money so I don't die! Nothing here's free young lady!"
"Teasing, teasing! I'm honestly shocked you keep taking me seriously."
"R-right-"
Subaru looked at Rom again, who was looking at the jewels. Laying them out of the bar counter as Felt drank milk and waited for him to do something. Subaru wasn't quite sure so he should probably as-
"I appraise all of these to at the very least 7 gold coins each. This'll bet us quite a good amount! Too bad we don't have a buyer for them immediatly."
"Whatever, long as we can sell em thats loads of money! That lady didn't even see me coming!"
"you're right on that one, so anyways, where ya come from kid?"
Rom had grabbed the now empty glass of milk and had started cleaning it, while in the process of doing so he had asked Subaru where he was from.
"Oh Subaru's from Karara-"
"Kawawagi."
"Kararagi."
"I meant Kararagi!"
Rom gave him an odd look as he sighed and shrugged, putting the now cleaned glass away in a small shelf of several other glasses.
"I've believed worse."
"So anyways Subaru, lets get some general things over with! We're stealing from people, that means you can't feel bad for people. Well, you can feel bad but don't act on your emotions. Just take and leave alright? Simple as that, secondly we usually take orders from people who want something specific. These jewels were an exception they just looked... so pretty-"
'I can't think of a single way this'll end up bad! Ugh.'
"And lastly, if you're not good enough and get caught, that's the end of our Affiliation. Understood?"
"Yeah, makes enough sense for me."
"Good! Then we're off!"
"Wait wait wait you have an order already?"
"Yeah, the guy won't be here till nightfall so I was just spying the area out."
"Oh, that actually makes sense."
"Good you understand, now let's go already!"
"Right"
Said Subaru with a nod as he stood up from his seat, Rom looked at him and Felt for a second before just sitting down and pouring himself a drink. Subaru opened the door for Felt but noticed a small note on the ground, he picked it up and opened it..
'I can't read any of this!- Language barriers... ugh-'
"Hey Felt, mind reading this for me?"
"You can't read or something Subaru?"
" Not in particular no"
" Wow you really are down on your luck, well, what would you have done without me?"
She said confidently with a smile as as if to say "praise me" Subaru just exhaled sharply and handed her the note. She opened it and looked at it. Reading it before smiling widely.
"20 holy coins! Haha! 20! Oh my god!"
"What's it say Felt?"
"We have to steal an insignia from a long silver haired lady at the third district. We have till tomorrow to get it before the buyer comes. And they'll pay us 20 holy coins for it! 20!"
"So we're going now, right?"
"No way, we still have until tomorrow! We'll just find her on the last day and get the insignia"
"Wouldn't it be better to just do it now? We might not he able to get it in one day."
"You think we aren't good enough to get it in one go? Or is it just that you don't think I'm strong enough to do it in one go?"
"No, its just concern and worry is all because if we don't get it in one day we don't get paid.. or worse."
"Then there's no need to worry Subaru! We'll get it and go in one day. For now, we have to go steal a couple of gems from someone."
"Even more Jewelry?"
"Yeah, but its 10 gold coins for each gem so we should hurry. The buyer's actually gonna be here in a couple hours so we should be off!"
And with that Felt was out of the door going to their destination, shouting "Come on Subaru!" Subaru followed in suite, it'll take a while for them to get to wherever they were going to so Subaru had a couple of minutes to think to himself as he followed Felt closely from behind. and he would also use this time to think about how he would survive in this world after getting enough money from stealing to stop stealing and go get an actual job.
'This world is definitely magic, there wasn't some cute girl who teleported me to this world to give me an adventure. I've met this kid and now I just got a job, which is stealing from others but Felt definitely wasn't the girl who summoned me here, least I hope not. It doesn't look like I have any cool super powers and all I have is the food that I.. left at old man Rom's shop.. I swear to god Rom if you eat my food! Well anyways, maybe I should work on finding who put me in this world first and then ask them how I can get out of this world... If they will even let me get out of this place that is. Another topic, should I tell anyone if I'm from this world or not? It might not end well if I tell people I'm from another world, burn the heretic and all that. I think it's best I keep the truth hidden for now, but maybe it could benefit me to tell it to some people...'
A bustling city, a completely different area from the slums he was just in. Stalls of food, weapons, armor, accessories, shops full of clothes, magical items and things Subaru had never even expected of this world we're all around. This part of the kingdom was bustling, Subaru was mouth open eyes wide at the place as he looked around, people were everywhere music was being played the whole lot. The slums being called the slums was an understatement when compared to this. Suddenly Subaru was yanked out of his wonder as he was pulled backwards by Felt, who was angry at the fact that Subaru had just wondered off in the opposite direction of the jewelry shop.
"Subaru! Hey! The shops in that direction! Have you never seen the city before or something?!"
"N-no- this is the first time actually. From the slums I didn't think much of this kingdom actually."
"Be more serious Subaru, we're working right now. Don't forget that!"
Said Felt as Subaru nodded while putting his hands up to his chest as a way of saying "sorry" as he followed her to the jewelry shop. They stopped a few blocks to the right of the jewelry shop as Felt turned to Subaru.
"ok, normally I would just grab the item that needs stealing from the person and run for it but I want to get more than two gems so instead, you go distract the first person that leaves the shop with jewelry while I sneak up behind them and steal whatever it is they bought! How about it?"
"I still feel iffy on stealing from others.. but, it doesn't seem impossible. I can probably distract them."
"Great, then we wait!"
And so they did. Course eventually after a few minutes a lady left the shop, looking happily at a small little green gem similar to the one he saw Felt take out of her bag of stolen jewels. Felt gave Subaru a slap on the shoulder to send him over to them. He sighed and walked over to her, seeing her put it in her purse before she began walking.
'.. Right, it's them or you Subaru. This is what you have to do to get home. You've got this!..'
He sighed as he pulled out a coin but, upon further inspection.
'A grooved edge coin. That's a keeper'
Even if it wasn't usable money he still wanted to keep it, because why not? It's a symbol of his home, his world. So he reached into his wallet again and took out a different coin before putting the wallet back and tapping the lady on their shoulder.
"Hm?"
"Excuse me ma'am, but you dropped this coin here! Thought you may want it back."
"Oh! Thank you very much, you're so kind!"
Said the lady with a smile as Subaru noticed Felt had somehow in that small exchange of time gotten behind the lady and already had the purse in her grasp. She smiled, quickly did a thumbs up. And just when she did the lady reached to grab something from her purse.
"Here I'll give you a little reward for your generosi- Huh? M-my purse!"
"Subaru! Run for it!"
Felt pushed past the lady, grabbing Subaru by the wrist and pulled him with her into an alleyway before letting go of him and running. Subaru, in a panic heard the lady shout for guards. His heart beat twice as fast as he followed Felt.
'She so fast! I'm gonna die! Oh God please don't let any Guards chase u-'
And just like that Subaru looked behind himself as he noticed a rather menacing, short purple haired knight running at him.
'OH GOD'
Felt ran into another alleyway, Subaru followed, nearly running face first into a wall as he turned the corner... it was a dead end, for Felt this was no problem as she jumped up on a wall and then WALL HOPPED all the way up the building to the roof of it. She looked back down at Subaru.
"In the house! Subaru! Go in the house! Follow where I go!"
Subaru was breathing heavily, his heart pumping faster than it had ever. To the point he could nearly hear it! Subaru grabbed the door and just like that it opened! Why a door here wasn't locked and he could just go through it? He didn't care! The sound of footsteps were getting louder by the second so he just swung the door open and dashed inside, he was in a kitchen. A lady was cooking some sort of food, chopping vegetables as three kids we're at a dinning table. They all stared at Subaru but he didn't have time for this! He ran to the nearest window, grabbing it and pushing it upwards before vaulting through it and landing knees first on the ground.
"Fell goa!"
He heard as a burst of hot wind and fire shot through the window. Subaru on his hands and knees looked at the flames in terror as he stood back up and bolted, seeing Felt on the top of another building waving at him before running again.

He looked behind himself, seems like the knight isn't running through the window! He just bought himself some time! Haha! Subaru you're amazing! He continued running, following Felt who was just so fricking fast Subaru couldn't really believe it! He continued running, turning the corner as he had to start going uphill. His knees felt like they were gonna give in and his throat hurt from the amount of air he was inhaling and exhaling in such a short amount of time as he saw Felt jump off a building and land on the ground. From here he could see the slums. They weren't so far away! But he still felt like he was dying so this wasn't that great in all honesty.
He took a look behind him as he saw the purple haired knight again, he was far away but god if he wasn't gaining fast! How's he gonna lose this guy?! He has a flamethrower or something like that! He's gonna look like burnt food if he tried to fight him! Subaru just continued running, following Felt as far as he could. But eventually the knight would catch up, and when he did Felt was out of view. Subaru looked behind him and saw that the purple haired knight was only about three meters behind him! He choked on air as his heart stopped for a moment, he tripped as he went face first into the ground and rolled across the ground.
"What is this lazy display? Are you trying to break my morale?"
Mocked the knight, Subaru got back up on his own two feet. His knees hurt a lot and he was pretty sure he's gonna die now. All because of that stupid kid! He looked at the knight as he unsheathed his sword, pointing it at Subaru. Subaru put his hands up in the air.
"Please! Don't hurt me! I had no other choice, I'm flat broke and have no way of getting a job! I-it was a choice between dying and stealing! Forgive me!"
"Do not plead with me, you dirty rat. I will wipe scum like you out of this world. My name is Julius, you deserve no proper introduction."
'I'm so dead! If I have any secret powers or something like that this would be the part to show it, what'd he say before, fell, fell goa! Lets try that!'
Subaru in a last ditch effort tried to do the weird flamethrower magic attack this knight had done before, he stretched his hand out and in a very non confident tone went.
"Fell goa...?"
And nothing, no fire, not even a feeling as if fire was gonna go out from his hand like in avatar. Just nothing, seems like this is when the end comes for Subaru. Subaru counted the seconds as Julius slowly approached, before he suddenly heard.
"HEEEEELP ME, GUAAAAAAAARRRDS!"
A feminine voice screamed from behind him, and conveniently there was an alleyway behind him.
"W-wait! That sounds like a woman's being robbed or even worse! I just stole some stupid jewel even if you killed me I'm not the guy who has it! I-If you waste your time on me that lady might get killed or used! S-so you should probably go!"
"...Leave. Now, before I change my mind. and if I see you again I will have dealt with the more important problem, you will not live."
And with that Subaru was off, he looked behind himself again, seeing Julius run into the alleyway. He sighed out of relief and looked for Felt, who was long gone already actually. Subaru didn't blame her, it's his fault for being so damn slow after all. He just continued running until he made it to a bridge over a river, he couldn't see that damned knight Julius anymore so he began walking at a slower pace. Man, Subaru is not meant for this world.
After making it to the slums and asking around for directions to old man Rom's shop he made it to the door. Out of breath he stood there for about half a minute before knocking on the door. Soon enough he heard some loud footsteps and the sound of floorboards creaking.
"For a ra-"
"Just open the door Rom! It's Subaru."
Subaru faintly heard "you're no fun" from the other side of the door as Old man Rom unlocked the door and opened it for Subaru as he walked inside the shop and sat down by the counter. Sighing loudly as he looked at Felt.
"Haha! You're actually not dead! That's a surprise slow poke!"
"Yeah yeah whatever, when's the buyer coming? We might be able to try aga-"
"They should be here by now.. that wasn't worth it at all!"
"Well, what if we just sold the jewels you got today?"
"Wait, Subaru! That's a great idea! And its more profit! Haha! Old man Rom go get the jewels before the buyer comes!"
"Yeah yeah, I'm on it you little brat"
Old man Rom went in the room behind the bar and came back with the bag of jewels, handing them to Felt. Subaru took his plastic bag that he had left on the table earlier today and opened a bag of potato chips. Of course this was after he drank half his water bottle in one go.
"What's that?"
"Hm? Oh they're potato chips, they taste good. Want some?"
"Sure! Gimme"
Subaru held the bag above her hands and dropped a good amount of chips in her hands before he began eating the rest, all that running made Subaru extremely hungry and this was his first "meal" since last ni-
"These are great! Give me more! Now!"
"Woah woah slow down hang on"
He gave her another handful, but he quickly ate the rest of the potato chips as to not have to fork over more of his food to the Felt. He sighed and closed his eyes, resting his head in the bar counter. His legs felt all tingly, like a bunch of bugs we're crawling on the inside of his skin. Yes very disgusting I know but his super short break was cut short by knocking on the door.
"That's for us!"
Said Felt with a smile as she stood up and walked over to the door, Subaru stood up too but he just stayed leaning against the bar counter with his arms crossed as Felt opened the door and a rather professional man wearing glasses walked inside. Felt sat down by a table, the man sitting down on the opposite seat to her.
"Well then, show the goods."
Felt nodded and put the jewel she actually got from the shop along with the 8 jewels she got earlier today on the table. The man smiled and took out a couple of small bags, placing the jewels each in their own bags for safe keeping before putting the bags away and clapping.
"Work well done, and for that you get paid."
He said as he took out and placed a holy coin on the table, quickly standing up and leaving the shop. Felt stared a bit dumbfounded but was happy enough, she grabbed and pocketed the holy coin.
"Wonder why he didn't just buy them at the shop."
"Maybe I'll ask him if I ever go buy from his shop."
Subaru said with a shrug as he watched Felt stand up from her seat and walk over to the bar counter, sitting down on the bar stool next to Subaru with a refreshed sigh. Subaru looked over to Felt, Rom placed down a cup of milk and a cup of water for Subaru.
"Oh, thank you old man Ro-"
"This taste like butt what'd you do to it old man Rom?!"
"I give you milk out of the kindness of my heart and this is how you repay me? How disrespectful."
Rom and Felt giggled as Subaru stared kind of baffled at the whole situation, course he drank the water which was very nice. He looked out one of the windows, it was about to be evening. And he hadn't slept, remember he was at the gas station during the night before he was supposed to sleep.
"Hey Felt, do you sleep in this shop?"
"No way! I sleep at my own hut. You don't got a home do you?"
"Nothing, all I have is the clothes on my back and what's left of whatever is in this bag."
"You're not sleeping with me!"
"Figured, not like I wanted to sleep where you sleep. Rom, mind if I stay the night here? I'll just sleep on a chair or something, I promise I won't bother you!"
"Eh, do what you want. Just don't go into my room when I'm sleeping, or I might bash yer head in on accident."
"I'll make note of that-"
'Jeez that's one way to make someone feel unsafe in your home-'
"Well, Goodbye old man Rom and Subaru! I'm gonna go home and sleep."
"Don't get mugged on the way!"
"Bye Felt"
Said Subaru with a wave as Felt stood up from her chair and left the shop. It was just Subaru and old man Rom. An awkward silence hit the room as Subaru kind of just stood up and walked over to one of the empty sets of tables and chairs. He watched old man Rom grab the two cups and clean them. Subaru laid his head on the tables he tried to get comfortable. He pulled out his phone, flipping it open and then looked at the pictures of his parents one last time for the day. He hoped that he'd get to see them again one day. Good night.
Noon of the Second day.
Subaru woke up, the sun was shining in his eyes. He stood up and rubbed his back, seems like sleeping while sitting down wasn't too good for his body. Subaru rubbed his eyes as he looked around the shop... He sighed. He was hoping he'd just wake up the next day and he'd tell his parents of the strange girl in his dreams. Or the weird knight that chased him and nearly killed him. But no, alas this is a cruel reality.
"Wait.. I DIDNT GET PAID"
Subaru face palmed out of his own stupidity while he leaned back in his chair with a loud and long groan. He'd just have to ask Felt to pay him whenever she comes around. Subaru stood up from his chair, walking over to the bar counter and sitting down. Either old man Rom wasn't awake or he didn't care enough to come over to the bar at such a time. Even though Subaru had no idea what the time was.
'Probably shouldn't leave.. Otherwise I'll get lost and Felt will do the job without me, and then I won't get paid twice!"
There was a rather loud set of knocks on the door. He didn't hear old man Rom say anything, so the old guys probably still asleep. Nonetheless Subaru stood up from his seat and walked over to the door, shouting just loud enough for whoever was on the otherwise of the door to hear him.
"For a rat?"
"Poison!"
"For the white whale?"
"A harpoon!"
"To the... uh, great.. dragon(?), we are?"
"Shitbags!"
Subaru chuckled a little as he grabbed the door handle and turned it, opening it for Felt who was on the otherwise of the door. Felt walked happily right on in and took her seat by the bar counter. Subaru closed the door and sat next to her again.
"..So uh, who is the white whale?"
"You don't know what the white whale is?!"
"Yeah"
"How?! It's like you're from a different world, the white whale is one of the great mabeast. It's a giant white whale that can fly, magic does nothing to it and no one's been able to kill it before! I don't even think anyone's tried yet! It's terrifying!"
"That.. is definitely terrifying."
"Yup, but I didn't come here to chit chat with you Subaru. Half the days already gone and we have until evening to get that insignia. So we should get a move on, before it's too late!"
"You're the one who made us wait until today when we could've done it yeste-"
Felt put her finger to her lips with a cheeky grin, Subaru stared at her with a poker face before sighing and crossing his arms. Felt giggled and stood up from her seat before walking over to the door and walking outside of the shop. Subaru followed in tow.
"So, where is she again?"
" The capital, or the third district. We'll find her, all that's important is that she wears a green gemstone around her neck and that she has long silver hair. It shouldn't be too hard!"
"Yeah, you're the one who can run across the world twice in a second! I'm not as fast as you! I don't think anyone is!"
"Sounds like you're just a slow poke!"
And so the two continued bickering back and fourth the entire way, annoying anyone and everyone on the way to the third district, or the capital. I'm actually not sure because this is super confusing.
Once again they returned to the capital, Felt was up on a roof looking for the girl while Subaru was on the ground also looking for the girl. But eventually, after passing by a rather loud green haired apple salesmen calling them "appas" He found a girl who was pretty much completely matching the description, she had the necklace with with the green gem and had long silver hair. Subaru looked over at Felt and got her attention one way or another.
"IM GONNA GO FOR IT!"
He shouted to her from the ground, getting some peoples attention as he did. Luckily not the person whom he was stealing from's attention. He walked over to her, walking at the same pace as her as he got to her side. She seemed to immediately notice, wait, she has long pointed ears.. Elves exist in this world too? Man, what doesn't exist in this world.
"D-do you need something?"
"Oh! Sorry about that, actually, could you stop for a moment? I've got a question for you."
The lady stopped, good. Subaru kept eyeing upwards to the left watching Felt as he opened his mouth to speak.
"I'm actually lost, I'm not from this kingdom. Do you know anywhere I could go for help? I come from Kawa- Kararagi."
"Oh, you're from Kararagi? Well you're in the capital. I could take you to the guards, they could probably take you to wherever you need to go."
"Yes that'll be really helpful, please do!"
".. Hey, Lia. I'm getting a bad vibe from this guy, he might be lyi-"
And just before the weird small flying cat thing could finish its sentence, Felt had jumped down from the ceiling of the building she was on top of and had ran at the woman, or well, Lia. She ran straight past her and had snatched her insignia from her pocket. She smiled and waved at Subaru, to make him go. He nodded and pushed past the woman running right behind Felt..
'And here goes another chase! That lady still hasn't called any guar-'
Subaru's trail of thought was cut short by the flying icicles that had just barely narrowly missed hitting him. They shot right past his head.
'Another magic user?! Seriously?!'
He thought as he saw Felt run into an alleyway. She was a bit further ahead so it took him a couple seconds to get into the alleyway as well. But when he got inside he was soon to be stopped by three thugs in said alleyway. He got in there with just enough time to see Felt jump up to the ceiling.
"You with the brat? If you wanna get out of here you best cough up all you've got. Otherwise we ain't got no more good intentio-"
"Out of my way!"
Subaru said as he punched the rather lanky and tall one straight in face before he continued running, he rubbed his hands while he did. Hearing the shouts and footsteps behind him as he ran.
'That's the first time I've punched someone! My adrenaline is surging!'
He thought as he turned once he got out of the alleyway, nearly tumbling over due to the sharp turn, as he took a step Infront of himself he heard and saw more icicles shoot past him from the alleyway.
'Jeez that lady won't give up will she?!'
Subaru saw Felt again, she was running on top of a bunch of buildings. Luckily Subaru could still see where she was, so he continued following, taking occasional glances at the lady who was STILL following him! Persistent as ever, maybe there'd be some way of him distracting her so Felt could get away!..
'Really? Is that the only way?'
Subaru sighed as he intentionally tripped, landing rather lightly since he got the freedom of choosing where he'd get to fall. Felt better pay him a lot for this! Subaru laid face down on the ground, hearing the footsteps get slower and close before coming to a halt.
"Get up! You're telling me where that girl is and where she's going at once!"
Subaru peeled his face off the ground, turning around and standing up. Dusting off his arms and his legs before looking at the lady.
"I'm sorry, but I don't even know her name! She just asked me to distract you and that she would do the rest. See?"
He said as he pulled out the small pouch of 20 gold coins that Felt had given him earlier today. He said all of this while sounding rather apologetic, scratching the back of his head with a smile.
"He's lying, I can sense it."
"No I'm not! You odd.. furry flying thing! And because I'm not lying I can't tell you anything else!"
The lady looked annoyed, frowning at Subaru.
"F-fine! If you won't say anything then I'll just find her myself! Go away b-before I do something drastic!"
".. I apologize, I shouldn't have taken the offer knowing I'd be taking from others.. Here, it's all I have and I know money isn't how you get forgiveness but you should still have it."
He sighed, putting it into her hand before quickly leaving before the lady could say anything. This way, even if she was still angry he wouldn't have to feel as bad as he did. Well, he's still getting paid for what he's doing so he's not losing all too much. He still felt bad about it, but what's that really worth in the long run? Oh well, Subaru began walking his way back to the slums.. Though again he had no idea where he was so he'd have to ask around again to find Rom's shop.
It took Subaru actual hours, all because Felt could wait up for him. Or well, because Subaru was too much of a slow poke. Eventually he made it to Rom's shop, he went through the stop pass codes and had gotten inside. Just to nearly pass out when he sat down on a chair by the bar. An unknown amount of time later Subaru was woken up by Felt shaking him awake.
"Subaru! Someone's knocking, go get the door!"
"Huh- Why.. why me?"
"Cause if they try to kill me they'll kill you instead!"
"...Ugh, fine.. You're paying me extra if I get hurt."
Subaru stood up, he yawned and stretched. As he walked to the door he rubbed both his eyes with his fists. When he made it to the door he grabbed it by the handle and opened the door. Just to be met with the same silver haired elf from before!
"I'm here for my insi-"
Subaru closed the door in her face and backed up against it as he looked at Felt.
"Was it the seller?"
"It's the lady! you know! The one with the necklace!"
"Oh- Uh, maybe we can talk with her?"
Subaru slowly and hesitantly opened the door again. But just barely enough for him to peek through and see the elf again, who had a pouty look on her face with her hands on her sides.
"Do not shut the door on me! Let me inside, if you peacefully hand me my insignia back I will forgive you!"
"H-here you go-"
Subaru opened the door fully for the lady, stepping out of the way so she could enter. She gave Subaru a stare of disappointment as she entered the shop.
She then pointed a finger at Felt.
"You! Return my Insignia at once! You don't realize how important that thing is!"
"And why should I?"
"It's the right thing to do! And if you don't I'll have to use magic!"
"Wait, wait wait, you're a magic user and you have long silver hai-"
"It's a coincidence! Only brings me troub-"
"My my, look at the situation here~"
Said a new voice, Subaru looked over at the woman who had just entered... And of course you already know what the first thing that came into his mind was.
'Who the hell is she?!'
haha.
"I'm sorry lady, but the buyer is already here. If you want your insignia back you'll have to discuss it with her!"
Felt pointed to the new lady, before crossing her hands. The silver haired lady looked at the new lady and I'm saying lady too damn much.
"I just want my insignia back, I don't understand why and what you would use an insignia of it's purpose for but I know it's better that I keep it."
"What type of business is this you're trying to run here? I thought this would be a one on one interaction, but it seems you've failed horribly, as the original holder of the insignia is here.. My contractor told me, that whether it goes right or wrong I am to kill everyone in the building. And that is what I intend to do~"
'WHAT'
Subaru absolutely did not believe what he was hearing. And before he could react the purple haired lady was gone, she was Infront of Felt.. Luckily, Felt ducked down and the lady, no, the murderer hit the glass bottles of various alcoholic drinks that stood on the bar counter behind Felt slicing all of them cleanly in half. Felt quickly got away from her.
"Ah, it appears you have been blessed by the world. How lucky you are~"
Said the murder as the other lady had already begun shooting icicles at her. The murderer, somehow swiftly dodging every single one of them. Old man Rom, who Subaru had honestly forgotten was even here took out a massive bat from under the bar counter and got into the battle as well. Subaru, being the unfortunate weakling he is stayed the hell OUT of the fight.
The murderer jumped backwards to a wall before jumping off that same wall at the lady, the lady making an ice shield that was strong enough to block the murderers attacks. Old man Rom charged at the murderer while she tried to kill the lady, hitting the murderer in her side, but somehow she had managed to get away from the bat a split second after being hit, swinging upwards and shoving her sword straight up into old man Rom's head. Killing him, in an instant.
Subaru held his hand over his mouth as he heard Felt scream in terror, old man Rom's blood splattering all over the room. The lady pulled her sword out of old man Rom's head and dashed backwards, away from the lady. Said lady looking at the freshly made corpse Infront of her. The murderer was licking the blood off her fingers.. disgusting.
"Ah, the beauty in death."
She said as suddenly Felt ran at her with her sword, Subaru wanted to say something, to do something! He wanted to help, tell Felt to stop and just run for her life! But no.. He was too much of a coward to even move his tongue. He watched as the murderer dashed towards Felt, landing behind her. Felt fell down on the ground, hundreds of cuts all over her as her body gushed out blood like a sprinkler.
"A blessing wasn't enough for her... will it be for you?"
Subaru watched as the murderer as she went back to hacking away at the lady, dodging every single attack flawlessly as she kept connecting hit after hit on the ice shield.. It wouldn't last much longer.
'W-why isn't that cat helping?! Where is it?! Why didn't anyone hear this, where are the guards?!.. Why can't I help? Move your damn legs and do somethi-'
But even then, Subaru heard another body.. no, another corpse hit the floor. Terrified, he slowly looked up at the murderer, she was standing before the corpse of the silver haired elf.
"Are you the type who likes to watch?"
Suddenly she was Infront of him, looking at him with a disgusting grin. Subaru recoiled, trying to take a step back but he was up against a wall. The murderer looked straight into his eyes as she grabbed him by the throat, shoving him against the wall she got closer to his face.
"I can't wait to see your insides~ I saved you for last for a reason dear."
Subaru took in a deep breath of air, he wanted to say something to try and convince her to stop. But before he know it a surge of pain came from his stomach as she cut open his stomach with her sword. Letting go of Subaru, he hit the ground and held his stomach in pain as it got colder, and colder. He began bleeding out. He tried to scream, to get up and run or fight back but he couldn't even muster out a scream. Broken sounds left his mouth ad he writhed in pain.
The murderer croucged down next to him, reached her hands inside the cut in his stomach, grabbed several intestines sith her own hands and pulled them out of his stomach. The feeling was disgusting as the putrid smell of his own guts filled his nose.
"How beautiful!~ How I envy you, this is truly remarkable!"
She kept rambling on, Subaru eventually couldn't hear her as he stopped moving and closed his eyes.. Suddenly, it got warm again. The cold disappeared and he opened his eyes again.
"Hey, how about this, you go away and I don't steal your goods too!"
"Felt?"
And with that we conclude this chapter. This was fun to write, and I hope this continues for many many more chapters.
This chapter took me roughly 3 days to write in total. Probably could've done it in one sitting if I wasn't so lazy haha. It was very fun to write so I hope you had fun writing it.
