Erialynn was now two months old and thriving. She was watching everyone and making lots of noises. Emery started back at school the very next day and she was so ready to be with her peers instead of the people that were her family. Cody came from work to pick Emery up to head to school that day. She was so excited to get back in the swing of things. Her plan was all lined out with what needed to be done that day. "Mom takes Erialynn to Aunt Natalie at 7:30, Cody and i leave for school at 8, we leave school at 3, I get dropped at work and Cody gets to come home and sleep since he works thirds." She read out loud.
"Em I did this with you. I got this. Go get ready." Erin says.
Emery runs upstairs to get dressed. Then she dresses the baby and packs her bag. She heads down stairs with her daughter in tow. Erin was waiting by the front door with her car seat.
"I love you baby girl. I'll see you later." She says strapping her in and kissing the tiny baby's head.
"I love you. Have a good day!" Erin says hugging her daughter and kissing her cheek.
"Love you too mom." She said as they went out the door.
Cody and Emery got to the academy at 8:30. They took their seats and waited for the instructor.
"Glad to see your back. I was beginning to worry." Carmen Taylor said.
"Was just taking care of my daughter." Emery said sort of bubbly to upset Carmen.
The two girls hadn't gotten along at all the entire program and it was because everyone thought a lot of things were handed to Emery because of who her family was but in reality she had to work harder than anyone there. The only girl classmate Emery could stand was Lily. Emery texted Natalie to check on Erialynn shortly before class began.
"Babe she's fine." Cody says, grabbing her hand.
If looks could kill Emery would have been dead because all the girls looked at her and cringed.
"Alright guys we are headed to the range today so we can qualify time for you to get your pieces. Lindsay, can I see you for a second please." Instructor Samson said.
Emery walked up to the front where she was handed back all her work that she had emailed in over the past two months.
"Even with a baby at home you managed A's. Well done. Now let's see if book smarts is all you have." He said.
They all headed to the range. Emery got to go up against two girls who she knew despised her because of her last name.
"You're in imminent danger. Go for the kill. Empty your clips."
Emery did exactly what her dad had taught her; she emptied her clip in his chest and forehead. Double tapping just to show her level of expertise.
"Alright bring your targets forward."
Everyone was shocked at her groupings and that she did so well. By the end of the whole group, Emery's target was the best out of her whole class. "Good job babe." He says smacking her butt gently so the instructor wouldn't see.
They all broke for lunch around noon, Emery headed straight for the bathroom to call Nat to check on the baby but as her phone rings. She hears people walk in and quickly hangs up.
"Can you believe how she gets everything handed to her just because of who her mom and grandpa are?" She hears Taylor say.
"She took leave for a baby that isn't even hers. Now she's got Cody and all his yumminess mixed up in her mess." She hears Amanda Brooks say.
"She wants everyone to feel sorry for her. Look at me I'm Emery Lindsay I adopted my crazy ass friend's baby she abandoned. Also everything is easier for me. Yeah she can hit a still target, let's see how she does in the field training." Taylor says snobby.
Emery calmly walks out of the bathroom stall and washes her hands as they just stare at her in shock.
"First of all I get nothing and I mean nothing handed to me just because of who my family is. I have to work so much harder than any of you will ever know because my family has a reputation in the business. Second of all, stay the hell away from my boyfriend, got it. Most importantly keep my daughter and anything about her out of your mouth because if you don't next time I won't be as nice. Stop acting like stupid little highschool bitches." She says standing in front of the door.
Their faces went completely blank and that's when Emery knew she got her point across. She walked calmly back to where Cody was sitting and told him what had happened and then called her aunt to check on Erialynn. She told Natalie about what had gone on. Little did Emery know that her aunt called her mom who then called instructor Samson. The rest of the day Emery was upset but tried not to let it bother her. They went to the field training, where there were moving targets and you learned how to clear a room. Emery again was the top in her class at that.
"Everyone needs to take a page from officer Lindsay's book. Also if there is any more problems caused by certain members of this group you will be suspended from this program am I understood. This isn't a sorority, drama is not allowed. No the individual that it happened to didn't come forward. So no one needs to talk about the person behind their back." He said.
Emery was instantly embarrassed, because she knew that everyone was going to talk about her regardless. Cody and her stayed after everyone left to talk with him. Emery had already made sure Cody wasn't the one who told him so she was very confused on how he knew.
"I heard them in the corridor as I passed. I corrected them and that's when they went into the bathroom. Where of course you heard them."
"Yeah but how did you know that?"
"Your mom called, Emery, I've known you for longer than you think. I went here with your mom. I've known you since you were little."
"I'm going to kill Natalie. You know how immature it is that my "mommy" had to call. I had it handled."
"Lindsay, you do realize they are jealous of you. You have Cody which by the way young man keep your hands to yourself when in training. You have a beautiful baby girl and you are the top in your class for street and book smarts. Your mother just wanted me to be aware of the situation. She was just like you when she was here. Young mom, top of her class, and had Voight backing her. She made a name for herself. Just like you're doing. People talked about her constantly. I was her Cody except we weren't dating, we were just friends. I protected her. I'm going to do the same for you but nothing will ever be handed to you don't worry. Now go get your daughter because I know you miss her and get your butt to work before your grandfather kills me."
"Thank you. Have a goodnight!"
Emery picked the baby up and talked with her aunt then headed out to work. Cody dropped them off and as soon as she got in the building Platt stole Erialynn.
"I'll bring her up in a minute, let me love her for a while first." She said.
Platt was a hard ass but Emery and her had always gotten along. She was like a grandmother she never had. I mean Bonnie wasn't any sort of prize and Camille died when she was so little. Emery headed upstairs to her desk.
"Hey baby, how was school?"
"Mom I know you know. Did you have to call Samson though?"
"Why didn't you call me?"
"Because I knew you'd over react. Like you did."
" I'm sorry." She says kissing her head.
"Where's my granddaughter?" Voight says coming out of his office."
"I'm right here pops."
"Not you, I meant the little one."
"Not funny."
"Come here." He says pulling her in for a hug.
"But seriously where is Erialynn?"
"Platt has her." Emery says with a giggle.
Ever since Justin had died and Olive left with Daniel. Erialynn, Erin, and Emery became his whole world. Everyone knew he was still grieving. I mean it was a difficult thing to go through. Bonnie was back and threatening him with whatever she could and was confusing him about the true paternity of Erin. Emery knew the possibility of him actually being her mothers biological father because she had overheard their conversation at the precinct. Emery had a plan but she didn't know how she was going to pull it off quite yet.
