In a matter of 12 months not only was Emery living in New York but so was Erin. She got into trouble when she was caught forcing a confession out of a perp. The FBI took her and she was now working there. Cody visited the girls all the time, even though it wasn't the same but he grew to understand why she had done it. Erialynn was 18 months old and oddly looked more and more like Emery each day. She was very smart and picked up on many things way too quickly. Jay and Erin were broken up and Emery had only seen her father twice since she left but they talked on the phone constantly. Their lives were going pretty good until they got a call from Hank late one night.

"Emery."

"Hey grandpa. What's up?"

"You both need to come back now."

"What's going on?"

"They are reinstating your mother. All I can say is that it's an old case that we have to reopen. Mazalo is all you need to tell your mother and she'll know. You have to come back because your father and boyfriend miss you and want you home. Frankly I do too. You officially adopted her. There is no reason for you to stay gone. It's time to come home now."

Emery loved New York but her grandfather was right it was time to come home. The adoption had been finalized a month before and there was no reason to stay gone.

"I have to give my 2 weeks notice grandpa. I can't just leave."

"Actually you can Emery." Olivia said.

"What do you mean?"

"As soon as the adoption was finalized. They were told you'd be leaving soon. I just wasn't quite sure when."

"But what about mom and the FBI."

"I just resigned. She says walking in the room."

"So we're going home?" Emery asked.

"Looks like it. Start packing girls." Olivia says.

"Not until I know what this is all about first. I was just told I needed to come home now. To quit because they are giving me my badge back." Erin says.

"Grandpa said to tell you Mazalo." Emery said as Erin's face went blank.

"Emery give me your phone."

Emery gave the phone to her mom so she could talk to Voight."

"What about Mazalo?"

"He's appealing, someone is copy cating him, they know everything though they had to be his apprentice or something. This guy knows things that haven't even been released. Like the red rose tucked behind the victim's right ear. How he held them captive until he impregnated them and then killed them."

"Nothing's different? Hank you know as well as I do he did it. I still have the scar from it on my leg. You need both Emery and I because you're sending her undercover. It's the same age group isn't it?"

"20-25 never younger or older and always young moms. He takes them in broad daylight. Leaves the baby to be seen by someone who will call it in." Hank states.

"How many has he gotten?" Erin asks.

"Three, we think he's watching them for weeks before in the park where they walk their babies. Three other people they have found in the past have had the same dna found on them but the MO is way different for those cases. This guy isn't in the system." Hank tells her.

"You want me to send Emery and Erialynn back on a plane so she can get started. I'll pack everything then drive home by myself."

"I want all three of you in the car asap. You only pack the essential things you need. I've hired movers to come pack and get everything for you." he says.

The girls both look at each other. Emery was happy, Erialynn got to be with her dad again and she got to be with hers. She was ready to see her family together again. She wondered if her dad would still propose to her mom like he wanted too or not. Since he was hurt so badly by her abrupt leaving.

The 12 hour drive back to Chicago was miserable. Emery drove halfway and then they switched while the other slept. They stopped about 4 times the first half of the trip and since it was dark Erialynn stayed asleep. The second half started getting difficult because the sun was starting to come up and the baby would then start to fuss. They pulled up to their house that Jay had kept when the girls left. Emery used her key to unlock the door. He was already at work, so Erin went to climb into their bed and quickly fell asleep. Emery put Erialynn in her crib and then went and climbed in her room nothing had changed, everything was still the same. Everyone slept for about 4 hours then the baby was up and ready to go for the day. Emery got up and got herself and her daughter ready. She put on a pair of leggings and a warm jacket and also bundled up her baby girl. She then headed downstairs where she found her mom sitting at the table waiting for her drinking coffee.

"Hey baby. Grab something to eat so we can head out."

Emery fed the baby and then herself. They left the house around 1:30. they arrived at the precinct a little before 2. As soon as Emery walked in an instant smile grew across Platt's face she hugged the young mother and then scooped the baby up to love on her. Erialynn knew who Platt was because Emery video chatted her all the time to check on her grandpa and dad. Judy was always honest with her.

"You two go upstairs and get briefed. I'll bring her up in a minute." Platt said carrying the baby away.

Emery nodded and headed for the stairs with her mother close behind. She couldn't get up the stairs quick enough but her mother was very reluctant.

"Dad." Emery yells as she runs and jumps in his arms like a little kid.

"Sweetie why are you here? Where's Erialynn?" Jay asks confused.

"We are moving back, didn't grandpa tell you? Emery asked puzzled.

"No he didnt. Whose we?" he asks.

"Hey." Erin says reluctantly.

Jay tries to hide the hurt that wanted to break out across his face.

"They are moving back but they are here right now for this case. Burgess brief them." Voight says.

Burgess walked over to the white board and started rattling off what they had.

"Alanna Baxter 23, her 1 year old son was found next to a park bench with her keys and phone next to the stroller on the ground. That was 3 months ago, the potroller found her body two days ago it washed up down by navy pier. She was about 2 months pregnant. DNA WAS found but it doesn't match any person in the system but it does match 3 other cold cases where the MO is the exact same. Alanna was the second victim he had taken from millennium park. The very first one Charlotte Hammond was taken from there as well and her 5 month old was found. She was only 22. Stella Parks 21 was taken from Lincoln park. That's where we will be sending Emery. He has a pattern so this should be his next stop. We are going to put you in around the same area as Stella's little girl was found. After he kills his victim he waits about a week after the body is found to strike again. The only deviation is that Nicole Valenti's body wasn't found for almost a year after she went missing; she was 6 months pregnant when she was killed."

"Alright let's do this."

We will head out tomorrow. Right now I want you 3 to go home. You all have a lot to discuss. Voight says looking at Emery, Erin, and Jay.

They all go home and Emery immediately disappears to her room Jay had Erialynn and they were sitting on the couch while he was throwing her up and down in the air. The little girl was laughing and so happy. Cody showed up shortly after and he didn't even bother knocking he walked right in and Emery jumped right into his arms.

"Hey Cody. I'm assuming you want this little one." Jay says handing her over.

Cody nodded and the biggest grin burst across his face. He instantly started talking to her and all she did was laugh.He walked into the kitchen with her on his hip.

"We need to talk." Emery says to her dad.

"About?"

"You and mom. You both are too good together to let your relationship go."

"Em there is no relationship we broke up months ago. She left, she didn't want me."

She hasn't dated or seen anyone since she moved to New York. All she did was work and spend time with Erialynn or Olivia."

"I'll always love your mom honey she brought you into my life and for that i'm forever grateful. The us is done though. I'm going to go look at apartments tomorrow but tonight I'm going to sleep in the spare room.You need to get to bed. We have a long day tomorrow and we need to be prepared for anything." he kisses her head and heads for the stairs.

Cody, Emery, and Erialynn all cuddled up in bed. The baby was asleep in no time at all but Emery had all kinds of thoughts running through her head.

"What's wrong?" Cody asked her.

"I'm just thinking about tomorrow is all. Just a little nervous mostly because Erialynn is there with me. They don't think he will try anything tomorrow. He always watches the walk patterns for like a week before he goes for the woman but he's also becoming unpredictable. He kept the last woman until she was about 6 months a long and he usually kills them way before then."

"Everything will be ok and we will be right back in this same spot together tomorrow." Cody says trying to reassure her and kissing her softly.

They fall asleep entangled in each other. Emery's perfect family reunited, she felt safe, and complete for the first time in a long time. Now if she could only figure out her parents' issues.
