Emery woke up the next morning and went directly to the hospital to see Faith. She was resting but the doctors said she'd be just fine. Emery waited about an hour for the girl to come too.
"Hey. You don't know me…." Emery starts to say.
"You're the one who saved me." She says.
"Yeah. My name is Emery I'm a detective with the Chicago police department. My dad and I found you on that boat." Emery says.
"Thank you for saving me."
"No problem at all. How are you?"
"Sore, tired, they told me I'm pregnant super early and that I have options."
"Yeah you do and that's completely your choice. You have a 6 month old who I'm sure would love to see you."
"What if he doesn't remember me?" Faith asks about to cry.
Emery sits there and thinks for a minute.
"My daughter isn't biologically mine. My best friend was raped and gave her to me at birth. My biggest fear was that she wouldn't connect with me because I wasn't biologically her mother but I realized that fear was simply that a fear. My daughter was actually terrified of her mother the first time they met. All he will see is that you love him and missed him very much. It may be rocky at first but your his safe place." She says.
"Thank you." Faith says grabbing her hand.
Emery left and headed home to get Erialynn from her mom. They had both decided since he was captured there wasn't much else for them to do. Erin had already called and cancelled the moving trucks and Emery didn't know what to do at this point.
"We are leaving Friday night. I have to report back to work Monday morning."
"That's in 2 days mom." Emery states very upset.
"Emery we have work we have to get back." The mother tells her upset daughter.
"I thought when we left New York it was suppose to be to come home for good." She says.
"We have a life there now."
"What if I don't want to go? Grandpa needs us. We are all grandpa has since Justin died mom. " her daughter says.
"I'm going back Friday. You can come or you can stay." Erin says.
"Running away from your problems like always." Emery says upset.
Just then Erialynn woke up and Emery went to get her. She sat upstairs and snuggled with her daughter for quite some time. She sat there just trying to figure out how to fix it but she knew that wasn't an option. Emery knew that her mother had gotten Cody an amazing job but leaving her grandfather and father was really not something she wanted to do. Emery called Cody and asked him if he would come get her. After Cody picked the girls up they went back to his apartment and Emery shut her phone off just to ignore the world for a bit.
"I don't want to go back but I don't want to be away from my mom either." She says to her boyfriend.
"If you want to stay we can."Cody says.
"My mom is going back no matter what. I can't lose her again Cody."
"Emery your mom is in a good place she won't relapse just because you aren't living near her."
"Are you ok with moving?"
"I'm fine with whatever as long as I'm with you and my baby girl."
"I have to tell dad and grandpa. You mind staying here with little miss while I go to the precinct."
"Of course not. We will play and have snack. Dads got this huh Princess?" Cody says to the little girl.
"Bye I love you." She says kissing them both.
She drives to the precinct, thinking about what she's going to say the whole time. She knew that it was going to break their hearts that yet again they were leaving. She walks into the squad room and looks at her dad, she bobs her head to motion him towards Hank's office.
"We need to talk."
Jay shuts the door behind him. They both look at Emery and can tell what she was about to say wasn't easy.
"We are going back to New York on Friday. Mom cancelled the movers and we are going back. She thinks it's best for right now. Cody is coming with us." Emery says clearly upset.
Jay and Hank just look at each other neither of them knowing what to say. Jay doesn't say anything but he walks over to her and hugs her tightly. He knew this decision was hard for her but he also knew she needed her mom. Dylan messed with Erin by keeping Emery from her so the young woman had a very hard time being away from her mother.
"It's ok. We will be ok. Go with your mother. We will always be here." Hank says while Emery hides her face in her dad's shoulder.
Jay spent the next 2 days with his daughter. He couldn't imagine letting them go again but he didn't know how he could stop it without hurting Hailey. Friday morning came and Jay went to work like always. Emery reluctantly packed up her room yet again. And wasn't happy about going but also liked the life she had in New York. They all went and got lunch so Cody could say his good byes to the girls. He had to stay in Chicago and tie up a few loose ends before heading out himself. The day went on like any other and Emery just sat there and prayed her father would stop them. They packed up the car and sat down to eat dinner before hitting the road.
"I don't want to go." Emery says.
"We've already discussed this if you want to stay you can but I'm going."
"Mom you know I can't stay here with out you."
Erin just looked down at her plate and continued eating. She was finding it harder then she thought to leave again too.
"What about grandpa? And dad? Because I know as much as neither of you want to admit it you still love each other."
"He's moved on that's as much as I'm going to say about it. Finish eating so we can get going." Erin says cleaning up her plate.
Emerys only hope was that her dad realized and got home in time to stop them. As the minutes ticked by and it was getting time to leave. She became more and more worried.
"Alright time to go." Erin says.
Emery takes one look around the room and then heads out the front door one last time. She couldn't even explain the hurt she had felt in that moment. Just after 7 pm they were gone. No sign of Jay, and Emery just had to accept that it was time to move on just like her father had.
Jay comes running in the house to find it empty. He had just missed them. Heartbroken he sat down on the couch and broke down. He knew he had yet again lost the only two people who loved him unconditionally. He wasn't going after them. He knew it was best to let them go live their lives and had to let them do that without him. Emery calls her dad when they arrive in New York. Neither of them mentioned to each other how heartbroken they were nor did Jay mention that he tried to stop them. Life moved on like normal. Emery had her long distance relationship with her father and visited whenever she could. Erin avoided anything that had to do with Jay, if she wasn't working she was with her family pretending everything was fine.
