Emery woke up Christmas morning to a very excited 5 year old. She walked down the stairs to find her mother and grandfather at the table.

"Poppa, Santa brought me presents." Erialynn says running over to him.

"No, I think Santa brought all those presents for everyone but you princess." Hank says bending over to pick her up and wincing in pain.

"Grandpa, you can't lift her yet. Let Cody carry her." Emery says.

Cody grabs the little girl and carries her into the living room. Just as Erialynn grabs the first present there is a knock on the door. Erin walks over and opens the door. Jay was the one standing on the other side with his arms full of presents.

"Hey." Erin says grabbing some of them.

"Hey. Thought I'd bring these by for little miss." Jay says.

"Grandpa. Grandpa." The little one says, launching herself into his arms.

Jay wraps the little girl in a tight hug. They all sit around the tree and open presents. Erialynn of course got everything she wanted plus more. Emery was just happy her family was together even if it was just for one day. Her parents were talking and laughing. Emery soaked in every moment that morning.

"I didn't get you a gift but I have a whole day planned for us before you head back to New York." Jay says to his daughter.

Emery just smiles and nods. The one thing she wanted for Christmas was so far from happening it wasn't even realistic at that point. Her dad was engaged and her mother alone. She just wanted them back together.

"Erialynn, tell your grandparents thank you for the gifts they got you."

"Fank you." The little girl says running to all of them and kissing their cheeks.

At 5 she spoke pretty well but she did struggle with her th words more often than not. They sat and played cards and kept Erialynn entertained with her doll house and kitchen set. They always had more of a lunch rather than dinner so they ate about noon that day and Jay left shortly after. Emery tried to take her mind off of her parents by throwing herself in to her own little family for the rest of the day.

"Hey. I love you." Cody says kissing her cheek.

"I love you too."

"I know that your parents not being together is really getting to you. Just know they both love you."

"Cody I'm not his, he's building a whole other family that I have no business being a part of." She says starting to cry.

"He loves you more than anything. He would never do that." Cody says hugging her tightly.

Erin was standing in the kitchen listening to the conversation and she finally understood why her daughter was hurting so badly. She knew she had to do something but she wasn't quite sure what exactly that would be.

"Hey we need to talk. Meet me at our house about 9." Erin says.

"I'll be there." Jay says.

Emery took Erialynn upstairs about 8 to get her ready for bed. She ended up falling asleep with the little girl curled up in her arms. Cody sat down stairs with Hank and they talked about work and the plans Cody had for their life in the next few years. It was about 8:45 when Erin went to leave.

"Where are you going?"

"I'll be back in a little while."

Erin left and got to the house right at 9. She walked up onto the front porch and waited for Jay. He was there within 2 minutes.

"Why are we here?"

"I bought it back when it went on the market earlier this month. I was going to surprise Emery with it but then Hank got hurt and it just wasn't the time."Erin says unlocking the front door.

They walk in and there is some furniture already in the house. They sit down on the couch and there is a long silence.

"I had some stuff moved in earlier this week."

"Why'd you buy it?"

"This is where she called you dad for the first time. The place she brought home our granddaughter. Where I got pregnant with our son. This house has so many good memories."

Jay just nods and has a small smirk on his face. He sits and thinks about all the good memories in that house.

"You're right. I'm glad you bought it back, but does that mean you're moving back?"

"Yeah I figured it was time I think Hank's accident just confirmed how much we needed to be here."

"I'm sorry that I let you go. I should have gone after you all those years ago."

"Jay that's the past. It is what it is but I need you to promise me no matter what you won't forget about our daughter."

"What do you mean?"

"She's acting the way she is because she's afraid that you are going to build a family with Hailey and forget all about her. She thinks she's losing her father all over again. 25 or not she's hurting and we did that to her." Erin says as tears start to fall down her cheeks.

"That's ridiculous. She's my daughter, I would never leave her no matter what. Blood or not she's mine." Jay says becoming upset.

"You need to tell her that Jay. She thinks you getting married is the end of you being her dad."

"You know if this was 5 years ago we'd be engaged and she wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this."

"Well it's not five years ago Jay. We both made different choices and we moved on."

"Do you know how long it took me to start seeing other people Erin?" Jay says starting to get upset.

Erin shakes her head and tries to hide the hurt that she was feeling.

"It took me a really long time. Hailey came around and filled that void for me but everytime you come to town I have to deal with those feelings all over."

"I don't have to listen to this." Erin says walking towards the door.

"I came to the house. The night you went back to New York, I came here and you guys were gone already."

"That doesn't change anything. You could have come after us."

"I didn't know how to stop you from leaving."

"How about I love you, I want you to stay. Our family means the world to me….. that would have been a good start Jay." Erin said tears streaming down her face.

It's silent for a few minutes and Erin again turns to leave. Jay quickly grabs her arm and pulls her in to him.

"Stay. I love you." He says kissing her.

Erin kisses him back and what started off as a massive fight turned into pure passion. Nothing but the two of them mattered in that moment. Jay pushed Erin against the wall and then carried her into what used to be their room. Their bodies didn't miss a beat; it felt as though nothing had ever changed. The love they had for one another had never left. They knew they had just made a bigger mess out of an already bad situation but they'd deal with it later.
