Thank you to all my readers for the comments. I just wanted to let everyone know I do this as an outlet and love to write. I also need you to know I work 2 jobs and go to school so it's been a little rough finding the time to write but I promise I'll update when I can. I'm not abandoning this story.*
Two months had passed since the night Erin and Jay shared in the house. They were all moved back from New York and Emery was working at the precinct under Platt. Cody was working in a drug unit and Erin simply just transferred to the Chicago division of the FBI. Jay was doing everything in his power to fix his relationship with his daughter but Emery knew something was up. Erin had avoided the subject of Jay and did everything she could to not have to see him. Jay was still with Haley and they continued planning their wedding. He avoided Erin as much as possible as well. They were ashamed of themselves in a way but neither one of them could understand how something that felt so right made them feel so bad.
"Mom you're watching Erialynn today right?"
"Yeah I have the day off so we are going to have a girls day since it's a snow day for little miss here." Erin says, smiling at the little one.
"Ok just make sure she's bundled extra good if you guys go out and play. And…." Emery starts to say and is cut off.
"Bundle her good, make sure her gloves stay on, and make sure to hang her wet clothes when we are done. We got it. I did do this a time or two with you. Remember?" Erin says walking over to Emery and kissing her head.
"Sorry. I love you both. I'll see you tonight." She says kissing the little girl who was eating breakfast.
Emery got to work and instantly got called upstairs to help with a case. She walked upstairs and put her things away.
"What we got this time?"
"CFD needs our help looking into this arson case. Our victim is a 27 year old male. Name is Samuel Owens." Antonio says briefing everyone.
" Emery, you go with your dad and talk to the witnesses." Hank says to his granddaughter.
Emery was kind of dreading having to spend the day with him especially while she was working a case. She knows it was something her grandfather did on purpose.
"Give me the keys. I'm driving." Emery says.
"No, I'm driving."
"Dad please."
"Fine. You're just like your mother. Always have to drive." Jay said with a smirk.
The ride was quiet except for the few instances Jay tried to start a conversation. They got to the scene and interviewed a few people. Everyone had a different story about what happened but what they could agree on was that they saw 2 white teenagers running from the scene. They got back in the car and just as they were getting back in the car Emery gets a call.
"Hi mommy."
"Hey baby are are you having a good snow day with grandma?"
"Yeah I throwed a snowball and hit her."
"Oh you did. Can I talk to her?"
"Hey."
"Hey mom. I got pulled upstairs on a case. Dad and I just got done at the scene interviewing people. I'm not sure how late I'll be."
"Ok. I got Erialynn. No worries. Be careful. I love you."
"I love you too."
Emery and Jay sit in silence for most of the ride back. They were a few blocks from the precinct when Jay asked Emery to pull over.
"What?"
"I want to talk. I need you to understand that I will always be your dad no matter what happens. Even if I marry Hailey. You will always be my daughter."
"Dad, I don't want to do this right now. Can we please just go back to the precinct."
"Emery…"
"Dad enough, it's not the time or place." Emery says cutting him off.
They had back to the precinct and Emery tried to avoid him for the rest of the night. She kept wondering about the fact her dad had said IF he marries Hailey. Something was going on and she couldn't figure out what but she was going to.
Emery got home about 10:30 that night and came into the house quietly. She went upstairs to kiss her daughter who was already in bed and changed into pajamas. She walked back downstairs and stopped in front of her moms door. Emery peered in to see her mom sitting on the bed on the phone.
"Olivia, I don't know what to do. Jay and Emery are so distant from one another. I have avoided even talking to him for months about what happened on Christmas."
"Do you think Emery knows?" Emery can hear Olivia say faintly.
"I don't think she has any idea that we slept together that night and I want to keep it that."
Emery stops and thinks before flying off the handle. She is tangly knew that her mom was why her dad said IF but Emery didn't know whether to be happy or mad.
"You slept with dad?" Emery says slowly entering the room.
"Olivia I got to go. Emery I…."
"Mom, he's engaged. You both haven't spoken in months I should have known. I knew something was wrong but I never thought it was that. How could you?"
Erin just looked at her with the most sorrowful look she didn't know what to say. Emery didn't say another word, just turned around and went to bed. Jay was about to get an ear full from his daughter and Emery was just hurt. She wasn't happy about it at all it didn't feel like they were a family. Everything just felt broken and nothing was normal, she didn't want to accept that this maybe the new normal.
