It was finally Valentine's Day and everyone had their plans.Cody managed to sneak in some time with Emery and she couldn't have been more happy about it. Erin stayed home with Erialynn and they watched Frozen and ate Portillo's on the couch in their pjs. It was something she used to do with Emery all the time.
"Momma, you look beautiful." The 5 year old says as her mother comes down the stairs.
"Thank you baby. Daddy and I are going out to dinner. You be good for grandma." She says kissing the little girls head.
"You go have fun. We are going to have the best Valentine's Day then we are going to bed." Erin says.
"Thanks for watching her mom. I love you." Emery says walking out the door.
Emery met Cody at a restaurant outside of the city. He was still deep undercover so they had to be careful. She was so happy to see him, nothing else mattered in that moment.
"I missed you so much." She says passionately kissing him.
"Babe you have no idea. I have missed you and our little girl more than you even know." Cody says, squeezing her tightly.
They got to their table and Emery pulled out her phone to show him some videos Erialynn made for him to watch.
"Your daughter wanted me to show you her Balentines videos she made for you." Emery says with a giggle.
"Balentines huh?" Cody says with a smirk.
"That's exactly what our 5 year old calls them. Thank you very much."
Emery played the videos and they talked about life. He told her what he could about his work and she talked about the issues with her parents. It just kept getting later and later but the time flew by. Emery couldn't imagine having to let him go again. She was savoring every minute.
"Hey what do you say we get out of here?" Emery whispers.
Cody puts his napkin down on the table and grabs Emery's hand leading her out of the restaurant. They get in the car and drive to a hotel where Cody had rented a room for the night. Even though Emery couldn't stay because she had Erialynn at home she was going to make the best of the time they had and she felt relief leaving him in a safe space for the remainder of the night as well. When they got to the room Cody passionately pushed her up against the wall and started kissing down the side of her neck. He unzipped her dress and ran his hand up her stomach until he was caressing her breast. As soon as they hit the bed, the rest of their clothes flew off. Being together again was better than either had imagined.
"That was amazing." Cody said out of breath.
"Ehhh it was ok I guess." Emery says with a giggle.
Cody looks at her and shakes his head as he gently tickles her. They hold each other for a few hours and then the time had come Emery needed to head back home.
"I love you."
"I love you too. Give my little girl love from her daddy. Oh and this." Cody says handing Emery a stuffed puppy.
They stood there hugging each other for an extended period of time and finally Emery left. It always hurt a little leaving him but she trusted in her relationship and the strength it gave her. She never imagined she'd be so happy with someone. Emery got home about midnight and she did the same thing as she did after working a long night. She went upstairs, kissed her daughter, put on her pajamas, and headed back downstairs. Emery walked into the kitchen to grab some water and she found her mother laying on the floor.
"Mom. Wake up." Emery shouts.
Erin moans and Emery pulls out her phone to call 911.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"Hi, my name is Emery Lindsay. I'm a Chicago police officer. I just got home from a date and found my mother on the floor passed out. She was here with my daughter. I have no idea how long she's been like this." Emery says panicked.
"Alright ma'am someone is on the way they should be there shortly."
"Ok I have to call someone to sit with my daughter so I can go with her. I'm going to hang up."
Emery hangs up from 911 and checks all her mothers vital signs before calling her grandfather.
"Grandpa."
"Em what's wrong?"
"I came home and found mom on the floor ambulance is on the way. Can you come sit with Erialynn please?"
"I'll be right there."
Hank got there just as they were wheeling Erin out on the gurney. Emery met him on the front porch to quickly fill him in.
"I don't know what happened, I just found her on the kitchen floor. Erialynn is upstairs asleep. I will call with any updates." Emery says.
"Go, I got everything here." Hank says.
Emery sat next to her mother in pure shock the whole ride to the hospital. She couldn't even fathom losing her. She fought with herself on whether she should call her dad or not. Once they got to the hospital Emery was so scared she broke down and called him.
"Dad, I need you." Emery said sobbing.
