NCIS and SHIELD part 4 The ripple effect C2
Sam was sitting at her desk at the Triskelion not focusing on the screen in front of her, Ellie was currently working undercover both Izzy and Natasha were supporting her, the only reason Sam had been sent in was to handle NCIS. She was the one that had followed NCIS to the warehouse and had saved their lives…again. She had been briefed about all her interactions with NCIS, after the whole incident in the gym her pack had been keeping an annoyingly close eye on her. She had argued with Maria for several hours wanting answers and Maria had let her speak her mind but she had not given her the answers she had wanted. There was still tension amongst them and she could feel the strain amongst the pack and as much as she wanted to role over and forgive her she found that she couldn't. She still listened to Maria and followed her orders but that was it, part of Sam was expecting to be transferred but Maria had kept her close. Kept her at the Triskelion, Bobbie stayed with her for most of it although she had been sent on a couple of missions with Barton leaving Sam alone for a few days while they completed the mission. Sam knew during those days she had been a little bitchy towards the others. She had kept herself in the labs choosing to stay away from the pack.
"Have you finished your report on the shoot out?" Bobbie asked bringing her back to the present.
"Yeah, already sent it through." Sam replied turning to look at her mate she could see the concern there once again causing Sam to sigh. "I am fine." She stated
"I didn't say anything." Bobbie pointed out
"You did not need to I can feel you remember." Sam stated
"You know Gibbs will want answers."
"Probably." Sam agreed turning back to her computer screen she leaned back in her chair. She could hear Bobbie typing something and felt the need to move so shut down her computer she got up ignoring the look from Bobbie.
"Sam?"
"Going for a drive." Sam waved her off "You have your own reports to finish." Sam told her besides its not like she could run away, initially after the confrontation in the gym Sam had been kept strictly in the pack wings, when she was allowed back to work she stayed within the Triskelion it was only when NCIS became active in their case that she was allowed to leave but she had to stay within the state. She liked driving alone, it helped clear her head although she knew she was never truly alone even now as she walked towards the garage she could feel Maria across the link not that she said anything. Right now they were keeping things professional but Sam knew this was not going to last forever sooner or later she would be told to sort through it and once again be all happy families. For now she got to drive. She had only been out for half an hour when she got the call.
"NCIS is going after Noah." Natasha told her
"Ellie?"
"Still active."
"Okay then." Sam changed direction Natasha had sent through the location. Sam chose to walk down the street instantly recognising the two NCIS cars. She climbed into the seat next to Gibbs, he was surprised to see her but his reactions became masked.
"I need you and your team to fall back." Sam stated
"Not going to happen, we have…"
"I know all about your case." Sam interrupted "If you take Noah you will blow our case." Sam told him.
"Your case? The O84?" Gibbs asked looking at her with a strict expression, Sam tilted her head not helping to compare him to Maria. "He has been selling…" he began
"I know your case." Sam repeated she could sense Ellie was walking down the street now so started moving again. She heard McGee's voice over the radio she didn't look back knowing they would not intentionally blow Ellie's cover. She made it back to her car and saw as Gibbs drove off she couldn't stop the smile, he was easier to read then she thought. She once again looked down the street at where Ellie would be, she could sense Izzy was close by but knew she would not see her unless she wanted to be seen so Sam drove off her job was done. She drove around for an hour after that not wanting to head back to the Triskelion. She found herself out side the Lincoln memorial and chose to go out for a walk. Looking around she saw that she would have half an hour of light left not that she cared if it got dark, the temperature started dropping as she strolled through the park, it was Autumn, winter would soon be on them the nights were definitely getting colder not that the cold bothered her thanks to a certain serum, but she still had to act the part. Her phone went off and she looked down and saw Bobbie's name.
"Hey." She greeted
"Hey," Bobbie retorted using the same tone Sam used "May and the others are back, we're going to do diner together." Bobbie informed her surprising Sam, if she had wanted to tell her that she could have just informed her over the link. That meant Bobbie was not yet in the pack wing but still working.
"I'll be…"
"Sam?" a voice called behind her and she turned to see Steve and Bucky walking towards her
"Steve?" Sam greeted still holding the phone up to her ear
"Steve?" Bobbie asked
"And Bucky." Sam informed her "I'm going to have to call you back." She stated
"Sam…" Bobbie called but Sam hung up the phone. She turned her attention to Steve and Bucky, she could feel Maria in her head and Bobbie across the link, she couldn't push either of them out so she chose to ignore them.
"Out for a run?" Sam asked noting their clothes
"Yeah, we have a meeting with Fury in the morning." Steve stated he watched how Sam was looking at Bucky, he remembered Stark talking about her and everything he said pointed to him being impressed and it was hard to impress Stark. "We saw you walking, you looked a little…" how was he to say it, Steve saw her across the water and she looked down.
"Lost in thought." Sam stated "I was just clearing my head."
"Are you okay?" he asked and Sam tried not to show her agitation at the question he was Captain America after all.
"I am tired." She replied honestly, he seemed surprised at her answer this made her smile. "Did you think I was going to lie?" she asked him
"You usually hold it close to the chest." He replied with a shrug looking down a little embarrassed. "Have you met Bucky?" he asked indicating Bucky.
"Not officially," Sam stated looking over at Bucky she just knew he was assessing her the same way she was assessing him. Everyone had heard his story, how he had been taken by Hydra and experimented on. He had been hidden away in a cryofreeze, he had been brainwashed by the remaining Hydra and when they had tried to rise back up SHIELD managed to stop them or more accurately the Packs, they had found the leak, the names and had dealt with the traitors, the Avengers also took part they came across Bucky at a hydra facility. "Sam." She introduced holding out her hand he shook it, Sam looked at his metal arm even though it was only a small part visible under his sleeve, he was wearing gloves. "Sorry, just curious." Sam stated showing her own hand, at first he did not get what she was saying until she took it off.
"It looks so real."
"Its not made of vibranium but it comes in handy." She stated smiling at her own pun. Steve groaned at her attempt but Bucky smiled. "You know…" she stopped because her phone was vibrating she looked at the caller and made a face. "Duty calls." Sam stated it was Maria that was calling, she wanted her back.
"You should come to the tower." Steve stated at this Sam raised an eyebrow at her
"Why Steve I am flattered but I am in a healthy relationship." She teased his face went red.
"That's not what I meant, You and Bobbie should come." He clarified at this Sam smiled
"Next day we have off I will see about us heading to New York." Sam replied waving her hand before answering her phone, missing Maria's call would not be a wise choice.
"I need you to go to NCIS headquarters." Maria stated as a greeting.
"Hello to you to." Sam could not help responding that way, seeing Steve and teasing him had put her in a good mood she just wasn't sure why.
'It's how you normally act around him.' Bobbie informed her. 'You and Natasha worked together trying to find him dates.'
"So why am I going to NCIS?" Sam asked Maria
"You're going to read them in." Maria told her this did make Sam miss a step, lost in thought, she wanted her to read them in onto this case, did she also mean Ellie?
"For now stick to the basics." Maria told her so she didn't want them sharing that piece of information just yet. "Director Vance has agreed." Maria continued
"Are we making our move?" Sam asked wanting to know more details about Ellie's mission but they had been rather vague when they spoke with her. The only thing she knew for certain was that they were chasing leads that will lead them to an O84.
"Need to know." Maria replied annoying Sam, here SHIELD wanted her to bring NCIS into the loop but keeping her out of the current information, how was she meant to… "Sam they are growing more ambitious, they plan to go after him again in the morning." Maria stated knowing that their phones were secure but she was still not giving specific details over it.
"Fine." Sam sighed hanging up and headed back to her car, if she took her time maybe she could get out of the pack diner.
