Author's Note: Hiii its me again! I'm back after a while with a new story! This one's based Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba. I recently got into the series and I fell in love with it. But I noticed there were NO sickfics of it on here. So to my disappointment I thought, okay time to take matters into my own hands here! And after a few months of thinking, I got this interesting idea. And I'm aware that the manga confirms that demons can't get sick, but hey Nezuko's a unique demon so maybe she's an exception) It'll be a bit more intense than my usual fluffy fics, this one has a bit of a story arc to it. As usual I hope you enjoy and I hope I do these characters justice or get their personalities right in the writing because I've only been into this series for a couple months.
This may also be my longest fic yet. I have some plans for this one c:
Chapter 7: Tanjiro and the others leave the inn to return to the Butterfly Mansion in hopes Nezuko can be treated.
The sun was finally up and the first to wake up was Inosuke.
He opened his green eyes and stretched his arms out letting out the loudest, most obnoxious yawn you could ever imagine. Then wiping his eyes, he looked down. He looked puzzled as it seemed he felt he was forgetting something.
"Waaait a minute…am I forgetting something?" he asked himself. Luckily, his mind got over things super quickly because he doesn't care to explore a topic that he's not interested in. So, he just brushed it off with a simple "Naaah."
He got up and walked over to Zenitsu who was sleeping peacefully in his own futon.
"Oi, Monitsu! Wake up!" he said shaking the blonde relentlessly.
Startled by the violent shaking Zenitsu let out a scream thinking he was being attacked by a demon. "Waaaah! Hey! Cut that out!" Zenitsu cried out finally realizing it was Inosuke.
"What is wrong with you?! Why can't you wake someone up like a normal person?!" Zenitsu yelled at Inosuke.
"It's not MY fault you're a super slow riser! You always gotta be up once the sun rises, everyone knows that!" Inosuke responded.
The two of them glared at each other growling like a silly rivalry. But the two of them noticed something. Someone of their group was missing.
"Wait where's Monjiro?" Inosuke said.
"Yeah…and Nezuko's gone too." Zenitsu said instantly going into panic mode at his dearly beloved disappearance.
"WAAAAH NEZUKO!" he cried out. "Where did that idiot Tanjiro take you?!"
"Wait a second. Now I remember. That child wasn't doing well." Inosuke said finally remembering what he had forgotten.
"WELL OF COURSE! SHE'S SICK AND NEEDS HELP! GAAAAAH STUPID TANJIROOOO WHERE DID YOU TAKE HER?!" Zenistu said running outside yelling, similar to what he did on Mt. Natagumo.
"What a weirdo." Inosuke said watching him run and then yawning again as he grabbed his boar mask at the side of his futon and put it back on his head.
Meanwhile in another room of the inn, Tanjiro was slowly waking up himself. He could feel Nezuko's warm breathing on his cheek. He opened his eyes and looked down at her. She was still asleep, but her breathing was labored again.
"Nezuko… Are you okay?" Tanjiro said softly to her.
As if she could answer him, she only let out a small moan. Her eyes were still clenched shut. She was not in good shape, and Tanjiro could smell that her condition was even worse. He could smell the heat and sweat emitting from his sister's body.
Then he noticed it was a bit bright through the futon's blankets.
"Oh shoot… The sun's up. I need to be careful moving her…" he said quietly.
He decided the best course of action was to pull the blanket she was wrapped in over her head and face to shield her from the light. As he gently pulled the part of the blanket behind his sister's head over her face, she groaned a bit.
"Oh, I'm sorry Nezuko…" Tanjiro said apologizing. "But the sun's up now, and you usually flee and hide at the sight of it. But you're too weak right now… I have to move you safely."
Nezuko fell silent again. It was as if she could sense her brother was nearby and not causing her any harm. Soon her entire body was covered up like a cocoon.
Tanjiro then got up out of the futon and picked her up and cradled her close to him. He looked at her box and wondered if putting her into it was the best idea when they went back. She needed warmth and the box didn't provide much of it. But she still needed to be protected from the sun.
But another issue was that she was wrapped in a blanket that belonged to the inn. And if he had taken it, surely that would be stealing.
But he had to keep Nezuko restrained while she was still ill, or she'd probably try to attack someone again in her delirium. But he also couldn't tell the innkeeper of the situation. Because Nezuko was a demon.
He wasn't sure what to do or how to proceed, but he knew Nezuko needed help and rest and he couldn't leave her like this and fight. She had to be taken somewhere safe. And the only place he thought of was The Butterfly Mansion back at Headquarters.
He could hear the footsteps of the innkeeper coming towards the room his friends were in. Tanjiro decided to put Nezuko back in her box and quickly move back to the room to avoid any further suspicion. He quickly carried the box on his back and grabbed the futon he slept in. He quickly moved back to the other room sliding the door open.
Inosuke was sitting looking outside before he turned around.
"Oi there you are Monjiro!" Inosuke responded looking at him.
"Hey Insosuke. Good morning." Tanjiro responded putting his futon back where it was before he moved it. He also placed Nezuko's box down and opened it. He picked her cocooned body back up, holding her close.
"Is that kid doin' any better?" Insouke asked.
"No, she's worse now…" Tanjiro said looking down at his sister. He could still smell she was in bad shape and feel her breathing even through the blanket.
"Whatcha gonna do with her?" Inosuke asked also looking down at her.
"I have to go back to headquarters. If anyone has hope of helping her, it's Shinobu-san, Aoi-san and Naho, Kiyo and Sumi." He said remembering the time they stayed and were tended to after the battle at Mt. Natagumo.
"Hang on where's Zenitsu?" Tanjiro asked.
"He ran outside screaming the kid's name after he found out you and she were gone."
"Yeah, that sounds like Zenitsu…" Tanjiro said.
"TANJIRO THERE YOU ARE!" Zenitsu then said charging towards him, eyes veiny and wide with both anger and anxiety.
"Zenitsu?!" Tanjiro responded in shock. "H-Hold on!"
"TANJIRO YOU JERK! WHERE DID YOU GO AND WHERE DID YOU TAKE NEZUKO?!" Zenitsu yelled in his face wanting to grab his collar but then could hear Nezuko in his arms. He restrained himself from grabbing him.
"Zenitsu calm down! Nezuko's right here and she's asleep! You'll wake her if you yell too loud!" Tanjiro responded looking a bit shocked and confused by Zenitsu's rage.
Zenitsu then calmed down knowing Nezuko was okay he had no reason to be upset anymore. He regained his composure.
"Jeez… But where on earth did you go? You disappeared this morning!" He replied.
"Yeah, where were you?" Inosuke followed.
"I just moved to another room. Your loud snoring was making Nezuko restless. She needed a quiet place to rest so I just moved my futon to the room next door." Tanjiro replied.
"Oh. S-sorry… I tried to stay awake but…" Zenitsu said looking guilty.
"It's okay, you deserve to sleep if you need to. I was with Nezuko the whole time, so you don't have to worry."
"Oh. Are we going back to headquarters?" Zenitsu said.
"We have no choice. If Nezuko's in this condition I can't fight, she might get hurt or get worse."
Tanjiro said.
"So….we're abandoning our mission?" Zenitsu asked with a bit of anxiety in his tone.
"You can go if you want to, but I'm not going, I'm going to tear that demon limb from limb!" Inosuke said looking prepared.
"Inosuke, don't be reckless! You can't possibly fight it alone! There's a reason they sent three of us! You'd die if you faced it by yourself!" Tanjiro said.
"Besides its morning, the demon's back in hiding. We can take Nezuko to safety and then come back to hunt it later!" Zenitsu said.
"You guys are weaklings!" Inosuke snapped.
"We are not!" Zenitsu barked back.
Tanjiro looked at both his friend fighting trying to calm then down but then a small sound broke the fight.
"Mmmph…"
A small moan could be heard from the blanket. Nezuko started moving and her lower face revealed itself from the blankets. Her muzzle was visible. The three boys all fell silent. Even Insouke.
"Sorry, we woke you up Nezuko…" Tanjiro touched his sister's cheek.
Nezuko then starting coughing through her muzzle. Tanjiro gasped and quickly placed his hand to it and kept her muzzle in place as it started to fall a bit after the small coughs escaped her mouth. Much as he wanted to release her from it so she could let whatever she needed to out properly, he knew after what happened last night that she could be dangerous and possibly bite him.
"N-Nezuko…" Zenitsu responded looking worried and already crying. "H-Hang in there my love…"
"We need to hurry…" Tanjiro said still holding Nezuko's muzzle as her coughing died down and went back to her labored breathing. He let go of it after she stopped. "Good, it stopped. But she's getting worse."
"Yeah lets go!" Zenitsu responded. "We need to help her get better or I can't take her on a date!"
"Grrr… fine!" Inosuke said. Seemed he felt pity for the small weak girl but didn't want to admit it. "She is my underling too after all, and a leader has to take care of his pack!"
Tanjiro smiled at his friends. "Thank you, Zenitsu. Inosuke. Thank you both so much."
The elderly woman was making her way to the boys to give them breakfast and then send them off. Tanjiro then put the blanket wrapped Nezuko back in her box and closed the lid.
His conscience felt guilt and he wanted to apologize for taking the blanket without asking, but he didn't want to stir any panic from the innkeeper that there was not only a 4th person with them, but a demon for that matter, and one not in the right state of mind that could attack.
Once the boys ate their breakfast, they headed on their way back to Headquarters with the weak, and very ill Nezuko in tow.
Chapter 7 is done! Onward to the Butterfly Mansion!
