A/N I want to apologize for how long it has been. There has been a lot of big changes in my life. In the end they have turned out great but were very stressful at times and very time consuming. I hope I have not lost my readers and will do my best to be better in the future.
I also want to give a very belated thank you to bamadude, Richard76310, SRAM, and guest for their insight and input.
It also seems this story keeps getting longer than I expected.
I still own nothing.
When she had been admitted and they were all sitting in the living room, fortified with drinks, Sheldon took a deep breath and began.
"You are going to find it difficult to believe what we are about to tell you, but I want to assure you it is all true."
"I know you will have a lot of questions, but please let us finish before you ask."
He then proceeded to tell her the whole story. He told her about both worlds and the relationships in both.
Amy listened in amazement. In the beginning, she wondered if this was somehow all a cruel joke. She had been the point of many a joke throughout her life. But as they went on, she realized they were dead serious and was stunned to find she believed them.
Sheldon was finishing up, "Well, that's about it. We do want to say that whatever you think that you will keep this to yourself. We have decided it would not be wise to reveal it to the world."
As they all looked at her expectantly, she tried to get her thoughts together. She was a little surprised to realize that with all she had heard, of how fascinating this was from a scientific point of view, she was most struck by the fact she had been married to Dr. Cooper in the other world.
She had long ago given up hope she would ever find someone. She had accepted that she was not the type to find love. She was further surprised to find she did not find the thought unpleasant. In fact, she was intrigued.
She finally managed to say, "I really don't know what to say. I am surprised to find that I believe you."
She hesitated, "May I ask why you decided to share this with me?"
Leonard and Penny looked at Sheldon. He seemed to be caught a little off guard but said, "I found I wanted to meet an individual I was apparently attracted to, even if in another world." He quickly went on, "I know you are not that woman, but I admit I was curious and researched you. What I found made me believe you were someone with an impressive resume."
Amy smiled, "I have to admit I researched you as well. I was also impressed."
She turned to Penny and Leonard, "So you two were married in this other universe. That must seem awkward. Were you ever involved at all in this Universe?"
Penny was surprised and struggled to answer. Finally, she said, "We did date for a while but then we broke up and Leonard got with Missy."
Wanting to change the subject, she asked, "Do you remember having a date cancelled with Sheldon?"
"No. You have to understand, I was living up to a request from my mother that I date at least once a year. I was often stood up. I didn't really check into anyone. I was just fulfilling an agreement. I knew nothing would ever come from any of them."
She smiled, "I guess I was wrong."
She went on, turning to Sheldon, "I am surprised you remembered."
"Unlike you, it was a one-time occurrence for me. Also, I have an Eidetic memory."
Amy found herself becoming more and more intrigued.
After a period of silence, she asked, "So, what happens next?"
There was an awkward silence, then Penny finally said, "I guess we never thought about that. We just wanted to meet you."
Amy realized she didn't want it to be over. She knew she wanted to know these people better, especially Sheldon Cooper.
"I am glad you did. Maybe we can keep in touch."
Penny quickly said, "We would like that too."
Amy smiled, "Good. Now it is getting late, I should be getting home. It has been wonderful meeting you all."
Penny and Leonard were surprised when Sheldon said, "I have enjoyed meeting you as well." They were shocked when he went on to say, "I was interested in your work. Perhaps we could get together and discuss it sometime."
Leonard stared at him. Sheldon interested in someone else's work? Someone that wasn't in Physics? He smiled to himself; something was going on.
Amy smiled, "I would like that."
Then, she surprised herself by turning to Penny, "Penny, maybe you and I could get together also." She hesitated, "It sounds like we were friends in that other Universe. Maybe we could try it here."
Penny considered what she was saying. She really didn't think they would have much in common but had to admit she was curious about her, and sensed Amy seemed interested in Sheldon.
"I would like that. I have your number; I will give you a call."
Amy smiled, "Good. I will look forward to it."
Then saying goodnight, she left.
As Leonard drove back home, he found it difficult to concentrate on his driving. It startled him when he realized that in planning this get together, he had not considered bringing Missy. Why had he felt that way? He felt guilty when he realized he had unconsciously wanted the four of them to be together; like they were in the other world.
His guilt increased when he admitted he had enjoyed it. He also remembered how he felt when he thought he could see something between Amy and Sheldon.
He took a deep breath. He needed to get his head straightened out. He was married to Missy. Penny was married to Sheldon. He wasn't surprised to find that wasn't changing what he had felt, was feeling.
As Penny and Sheldon made their way to bed, each was preoccupied with thoughts of what had happened. After giving each other a perfunctory good night kiss, Penny laid back and went over what had happened.
She knew it was absurd but she realized that on several occasions, she had felt that she was there with Leonard and Amy was with Sheldon. She knew she should feel guilty about that, be bothered by that, but she had felt natural about it.
Although she had managed to put it behind her, she had always known that her getting with Sheldon had been due to some extent because of what had happened with Leonard. Through the years, she thought she had put those thoughts to rest. But ever since the other Leonard had come into their life, she realized she still had feelings for her Leonard. Those feeling had been there tonight when she saw Sheldon and Amy together. She had sensed there was something between them. She smiled ruefully, instead of disturbing her, she had been intrigued by it.
She sighed, what was she doing? She was married to Sheldon; Leonard loved and was married to Missy. But as hard as she tried, she couldn't get over the feeling that things were changing and she didn't fear those changes as much as she should.
Sheldon was distressed that he was having trouble falling asleep. He hated to have it disturbed. Sighing to himself, he decided he needed to face what was troubling him.
He had been shocked when he and Penny had gotten together. He had always enjoyed being her friend but had never considered a romantic relationship with her. But he had come to be satisfied with them being together. That didn't mean he didn't understand that Penny's actions were affected by what had occurred with Leonard.
He himself had been stunned when Leonard and Missy had gotten together but decided that they did love each other. But even at the time, he knew how deeply Leonard had felt for Penny.
His suspicions had been borne out when Leonard left Caltech. They all knew it was because he wanted to get away from Penny and him.
His thoughts turned to the evening. He had been surprised by his reaction to Amy. It had just been curiosity when he had decided to research her. What he had found had intrigued him and led to him wanting to meet her.
He had been shocked by his reaction to meeting her. He had found her interesting and found he wanted to know more about her. He had wondered if the other Sheldon had felt the same when he met her.
The idea that they were married in the other world had deeply intrigued him. Would the same thing have happened if he had let Raj trick him into meeting her?
He sighed deeper. He had a feeling that this was not over. That as much as he hated change it could not be avoided. He was surprised to find he was not completely opposed to it.
Amy was almost overwhelmed with the emotions she was feeling. She knew she had no right to feel this way. These were married people. She was astonished at how she was reacting to what had happened.
She admonished herself, 'So what that you were married in another world? Those were different people with different past as situations. They have nothing to do with you.' But even as she thought that, she knew she was lying to herself. She had felt something for Dr. Cooper she had never felt before. She smirked to himself; shouldn't she think of him as Sheldon?
The real surprise and cause for her current situation was that she had felt Dr…Sheldon had felt something for her as well. She was scared as she realized how much that meant to her.
What was she going to do now? She knew she should just let it go. She had her life and they had theirs. No, she wasn't ready to do that. However dangerous her thoughts were, she couldn't ignore them.
She was supposed to talk with Penny. Maybe she should see how that would go.
