The Compound

Evening
Josh picked up a sleeping Sara and held her in his lap as Aiden covered them in a blanket. There were in the courtyard of the Compound and the party was mellowing.
Elijah was keeping a sharp eye on everyone and making sure that no one got too drunk or loud.
Hayley was sitting on Jackson's lap on one of the wrought iron chairs. They had sent a car to pick up Mary, Chris, and Sara, who had stayed behind during the battle earlier in the day.
Chris was talking a mile a minute to Jackson, as Emily dozed on another couch.
Marcel sat down by Hayley, "I thought maybe you wanted to stay over? You guys can sleep in your old room. You had kinda a rough couple of days."
"That's a major understatement!" Josh said.
"You guys did an amazing job today. I just feel so bad about Mason. I didn't know him for long, but he seemed like a great guy," Hayley sniffed. "I feel like I need to talk to his nephew when the time is right. He had a lot of regrets about that Kathy."
Marcel groaned, "Don't get us started about Katherine Pierce. Isn't that right, Uncle Elijah?"
Elijah smiled sheepishly, "In all honesty, my brother hunted her for 500 years and never caught her. That's pretty impressive. And she did help by posing as Elena for a time. She survived a lot."
"Like a cockroach," Marcel went on.
Elijah sighed, "Hayley, if you are feeling up to it tomorrow. I'll like to go out to the school site with you. Then, I have to head back."
"Sure. If this whole experience has taught me anything, it's that none of us here can survive alone. Maybe if this Katherine had the kind of support I have, she wouldn't have become so...deceitful," Hayley finished.
"You have a lovely way of looking at things, young lady. Now, if it is okay with Mary, I'll like to invite you all to stay. These children, with the exception of young Christopher look exhausted," Elijah said. "The staff can assist you with anything you need. I sent someone for groceries so we can have a nice breakfast. Oh Marcel, remind me to get your father some beignets before we leave. That always perks him up."
"Ah, sure. I better go give Rebekah a call," Marcel said.
Vincent was standing by the bar, he caught Elijah's eye.
"Excuse me. Please make yourselves at home. I'm going to speak to the Regent," Elijah said smoothly.
Vincent downed his drink, as Elijah approached.
"So far, the barrier is holding strong," Vincent reported. "But we still don't really understand what we are dealing with."
"Indeed. Your help was invaluable today. I know my family hasn't always had the best track record with witches, but I hope that can change," Elijah said, getting a bottle from behind the bar, and refilling Vincent's glass.
"Yeah, well, there are reasons for that. Those Strix witches, two of the Sisters, who are sisters, are gonna need some help. They want out of the Strix. I don't know the story but if they are really siphons, they won't be accepted around here. Do you think you could ask Hayley to take them into her school?" Vincent asked.
"I don't see a problem. Two of my nieces and one of my nephews were Gemini siphons. They have become vampires and are doing well. From what I know of Hayley, she will not shy away from tough cases," Elijah said, sipping at his own drink.
"That's good to hear. There might be a few other witches who could use a good home. Ah, looks like you got company," Vincent said, taking his drink and pointing to the entrance way.
Tristan de Martel was standing there. He could not enter without a invitation, Elijah walked over.
"Tristan? Trouble with Aurora already?" Elijah asked archly.
"Elijah, we have dosed her with her medication and it seems to be working. However, she is, not herself. Can you invite me in?" Tristan asked.
"Not a chance," Elijah said, stepping closer. "However, I may have a solution. Free the two red-headed siphon witches from the Strix and I will see if we can take Aurora off your hands for a time."
Tristan's face showed relief. "You are the only one who can help. Compel her to behave and she shall have no choice. Your foundation is doing the kind of work you always dreamed the Strix would do, does it not."
"It's in the early stages, but yes," Elijah answered. "Now that we are no longer on the run, we can give back to this community and others. But I do have one more question for you?"
"Yes," Tristan asked uncomfortably.
"Why were you going to trap my siblings and me in the Serratura? I could compel you to tell me the truth, but I've no doubt you are on vervain. But there has to be a reason," Elijah pressed, leaning against the wall slightly.
"Alexis, the seer, said she saw something. However, whatever happened today changed that prophecy. I wasn't always sure it was correct as Alexis is not one of the Sisters, she is Lucien's witch," Tristan said in a careful voice.
"And what is dear Lucien up to these days? Do you even know?" Elijah inquired in a deceptively light tone.
"Havoc. He's trying to acquire land for his Kingmaker corporation. He has scientists and witches working day and night. On what, I have no idea," Tristan replied.
"Interesting," Elijah stated. "Look into that further, if you can. You have Aurora here?"
"Yes, she is in the car. I'm afraid we had to restrain her somewhat as she may have ran off a bit. I caught her and we got her dosed again. She is immune to vervain but Lucien had a serum worked on that seems to be working," Tristan shared.
"Does Lucien know you are turning over Aurora to us?" Elijah asked.
"Not yet. He left after she rejected him again. I'm sure he'll come looking for her soon enough. I was thinking you could have her cloaked? Wasn't that the Regent I just saw you speaking to?" Tristan asked, looking behind Elijah.
"Yes, Vincent is now a friend. I will take care of Aurora. Have her brought in. This is a show of good faith that you will keep an eye on Lucien," Elijah stated.
"Yes, well, thank you," Tristan said. He turned to his lackeys and snapped his fingers. They brought in Aurora on a stretcher, wrapped in chains.
"The medications are in those chests," Tristan said, he leaned over and kissed his sleeping sister on the cheek. "Goodbye, my dear."

Compound
Ollie brought Chris into Emily's room on his shoulders.
"He still wants to sleep in your room," Ollie said, tossing the small boy on the bed.
"It's time for bed, Chris. You need a bath," Emily chided. She was putting her almost white blond hair in a ponytail.
"Ollie, one more time!" Chris yelled, bouncing up.
"Shh, folks are already sleeping. You don't want Grandma coming after you when you are supposed to me in bed. Believe me. I'll be right in the next room 'with Jackson," Ollie laughed. He winked as everyone knew that Jackson would be spending the night with Hayley.
"Thanks," Emily said.
Ollie turned, "Hey, how come you ain't stuttering no more. What happened in that water today?"
"I, um, better get Chris to bed," Emily said. She wasn't sure how she felt about turning into a mermaid earlier. She didn't know if it was the words or the herb or both.
"Well, whatever happened, watch that kid in the bathtub," Ollie grinned.
Emily got up. "Yeah, that's a good point."
Everyone, including her, was celebrating Hayley's return, but Emily knew that their grandfather was still out there. That scared the hell out of her.
Courtyard
Marcel came out of his office and saw his nightwalkers holding Aurora's stretcher. Josh had taken home Aiden and Sara. Vincent and the witches had also left.
"Oh hell, no," Marcel said to Elijah.
"I made Tristan a deal. Lucien is up to some of his old tricks and they can't control Aurora," Elijah stated matter-of-factly. "Tristan is going to look into Lucien's plans and we shall be in charge of the dear lady on the stretcher."
"We have a house full of people. What if she goes nuts and kills all of us, myself included?" Marcel vented.
"Marcel, we'll put her in a cell until we can be sure it's safe. I'm going to compel her not to feed or harm anyone. She can't fight against my compulsion," Elijah assured him.
"But you guys are always going on about how dangerous it is to compel someone...," Marcel snapped.
"It is. I'll be careful. Tristan left her a trunk of medications that we can sedate her with," Elijah said.
"Are we taking her back to Mystic Falls?" Marcel demanded.
"Ah no, that wouldn't be a good idea. Niklaus would probably...get angry. I thought she could attend Hayley's school," Elijah proposed.
"Oh, you are out of your mind! She's 1000 years old. What if your compulsion fails and she slaughters the whole school?" Marcel yelled.
"Marcellus, my compulsion never fails. We'll have a witch cloak her and yes, she might be a little bit of a handful at times, but it will be fine. Trust me," Elijah said.
Marcel kicked a nearby metal chair, breaking it.
Elijah turned calmly to the nightwalkers standing there.
"Gentleman, take Miss Aurora down to the dungeon and chain her up. I'll be down shortly. Be careful, she is strong," Elijah warned. "Marcel, let's chat in your office."
Marcel kicked the table and Elijah clamped on to his upper arm and dragged him back into his office.
"You can march yourself to the corner for a time out, young man," Elijah said in a firm voice.
"What? Are you fucking serious? You just said you weren't going to treat me like a kid anymore," Marcel roared.
"I did and I will not, unless you behave like one. You have some valid concerns, but you are being disrespectful and throwing a tantrum out there," Elijah said.
"Screw this. I'm going to bed," Marcel said.
"Marcellus, I'm going to count to three. If you are not back in the corner, I'm going to take down your trousers and use the ruler," Elijah threatened. "One..."
"I need a drink," Marcel hissed, trying to stomp past Elijah.
"Two," Elijah said slowly.
Marcel got to the hallway as Elijah said, "Three." He vamped to him and dragged him back into his old office.
"You have been drinking a bit too much for my liking. Maybe that is the problem here," Elijah said, he shut the down, and grabbed a hefty ruler from the desk.
Whack!
Whack!
Elijah cracked the ruler over Marcel's tight jeans. He steered him in the corner and pulled them down along with Marcel's boxer briefs.
"Come on," Marcel whined. "We just got Hayley back. And you are going to put her life in danger?"
"I would never do such a thing. I'll compel Aurora, we'll have a witch do a spell, and medicate her. Plus, there might be two siphons attending, regular siphoning will decrease Aurora's power," Elijah shared.
Whack!
Whack!
"Two siphons! Are you out of your fucking mind?" Marcel screamed, turning to try to look at Elijah. Elijah pushed his nephew into the corner again and swatted his now bared behind with the ruler, paying close attention to the back of his thighs.
Whack! Whack!
Whack! Whack!
"Owwwwww," Marcel gasped. It had been a while since he felt the ruler like this. And he suspected the ruler was coated in vervain.
"Are you ready to start your time out?" Elijah asked.
Whack! Whack!
Whack! Whack!
"Yeah, I mean, yes, sir," Marcel yelped. "I'm ready."
"Good. When I hear your heartbeat calm down, we'll discuss. Then, you can get your spanking and go to bed," Elijah said.
"Spanking! You already lit me up," Marcel cried out.
Whack! Whack!
Whack! Whack!
Elijah laid down four more cracks with the ruler on the fullest part of Marcel's backside. He shifted his feet and tried to squirm away, but Elijah held him firmly by the arm.
"I got to three, young man. Keep arguing and I will paddle your insolent behind for you before breakfast tomorrow," Elijah threatened.
Marcel sucked in his breath and determined to get this over with. He wasn't going to cry, just because Elijah was being mean and unfair. He didn't drink too much. He was a vampire, it went through his system faster, Marcel fumed to himself.
Elijah sat down behind the desk that was once his, a hundred years ago. He used the desk phone to call Vanessa and ended up talking to all three of his children. It was a bit late, but it was also summer, so he was just delighted to speak to them.
"Hopefully, we'll be home soon. Yes...Marcel and I are just chatting. Hayley is fine. Oh, you spoke to Rebekah? Yes, Tyler's uncle was killed...I know. We'll do something. Okay, then, I'll let you get them in bed. I love you," Elijah finished. He hung up and paged through the file on the desk. Elijah was troubled by the message the angels had said several times today. "This isn't over." They knew that Hayley and possibly Father Sean and others could smite them, but was that the extent of it. Marcel let out a soft cry of frustration and Elijah realized that his nephew was waiting. He got up and stepped near him.
"Are you ready to come out of the corner?" Elijah pressed.
"Yes, sir," Marcel sniffed. "I'm ready, I guess..."
Elijah knew he had to follow through.
"Leave your pants at your knees and come over to the couch," Elijah said. He sat down and patted his lap.
"Can't I just lean over the desk?" Marcel begged.
"That is fine if you want me to go cut a switch or get the yardstick," Elijah offered. In truth, these days he wasn't even sure where he would get a switch. They used to have much more vegetation around the property which was now covered in sidewalk. The courtyard was where they kept their horses...
Marcel's rough voice cut through Elijah's recollection. "No, this is fine."
Marcel placed himself over Elijah's knees and the older vampire lifted his leg to expose more of Marcel's rump. He didn't plan on going easy on him.
"So, do you trust me to place Aurora in the new school? Or do we need to talk about it more?" Elijah asked, tapping the ruler on Marcel's behind. Tap. Tap.
"I trust you," Marcel muttered. Whap! Whap!
"Good. I will take full responsibility for her," Elijah added. "Now, let's talk about you?" Whap! Whap!
"Ah, there is nothing to talk about!" Marcel said through gritted teeth. His bottom was already becoming tender. His left hand shot back and Elijah stopped spanking.
"Keep your hands on the floor. You know better than that," Elijah determined. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack.
Elijah was swatting from the crown of Marcel's bottom down to his thighs.
Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack.
Marcel found himself drumming his toes into the floor and shifting, but Elijah just pulled him in closer and then SMACK! SMACK!
He gave him two whacks on each sit spot. SMACK! SMACK!
As Marcel's rear burned and ached, from the heavy ruler and some from the vervain, Marcel finally let the tears come.
Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack.
Elijah finished up the spanking and rubbed Marcel's back.
"Let it out, Marcel. It's been a long day. Have you learned your lesson?" Elijah asked.
"Yes, don't be disrespectful and throw a fit when I don't get my way," Marcel blurted out.
"And?" Elijah pressed.
"Don't drink so much because it makes me act like a fool," Marcel admitted.
"You are not the only one. I'm going to cut back myself a little," Elijah confided. "Anything else we need to talk about?"
"No, I'm sorry for not trusting you," Marcel continued. Elijah helped him up and waited until Marcel carefully pulled up his pants, though he winced a bit. Elijah stood and hugged Marcel gently. After a few seconds, Marcel returned the hug, realizing he had brought that on himself, at least partially.
"Come on, let's get you to bed. I'll replace your ruler," Elijah smiled.
"Oh, that's Josh's ruler. I never covered anything with vervain like that. Guess I know now how he got those daywalkers whipped into shape so fast," Marcel grumbled. "That shit stings."
Elijah laughed and gave Marcel a little swat on the thigh.
"Language. And don't forget to brush your teeth," Elijah joked.
"Don't forget to chain down Aurora," Marcel retorted, as he rubbed his still stinging behind openly. He had gotten much worse punishments, but this one had stung his pride also.
Elijah gasped in mock horror, "Oh no, it slipped my mind."
Marcel rolled his eyes and went up to bed as Elijah slipped down to the cells below.
