Visitors.

(Chapter Four}

"Now remember Monkey, Bailey lost some of her memory in the car accident so try not to expect her to remember too much about you." Danny reminded his daughter as they walked down the hospital hall to Bailey's room.

"Danno, I'm sixteen. I can remember what you told me happened to Aunt Bailey." Grace replied with a fond shake of her head.

"That's good. I need you to also remember that Uncle Steve is pretty vulnerable right now too. It's not easy having your wife not remember marrying you." Danny told his daughter.

"Oh for god sake Danny. Lay off, Grace is practically an adult she is not going to say something to upset either the Commander or Bailey." Rachael, Danny's ex-wife, reprimanded him.

The others in their group tried to hide smiles or sniggers at Rachael's reprimand.

"I'm just trying to make sure this visit goes as smoothly as possible," Danny said defensively.

"You may be trying a little too hard, buddy." Lou smiled.

"C'mon Danno, let's just go say hi to Auntie Bailey and Uncle Steve," Grace said rescuing her dad and taking his arm.

The group made it to the door of Bailey's hospital room. It was closed so Danny knocked as a courtesy to let Bailey know she had visitors.

"Come in!" Bailey called out as Danny opened the door a crack to hear her.

The group filed into the room and got comfortable on the visitor's couch, chair sitting at the end of Bailey's hospital bed, or just standing.

"Ooo, company!" Bailey said delightedly.

"Getting a little cabin fever, are we?" Rachael asked from the left side of the end of the bed.

"You have no idea. For the last three days, my only company has been an overanxious former navy seal and your ex-husband." Bailey replied shaking her head with a smile.

"Yup Danno's a handful when he's worried." Grace agreed sitting on the right side of the hospital bed.

"You got it, sweet girl." Bailey giggled.

"Hey, hey, hey what is this? I'm here every day with Steve worrying about you, trying to keep him sane and you're ganging up on me with two of the other women in my life?" Danny blurted acting offended.

"Where is McGarrett anyway?" Lou asked.

"Kamekona's. I asked him to go on a shrimp run to get him out of my hair for a few minutes." Bailey confessed.

Tani, Rachael, Grace, and Rene (Lou's wife) all chuckled. Junior, Lou, and Adam smiled. Danny rolled his eyes. Rachael leaned down, grabbed a bag she had left sitting at her feet, sat up, and handed it to Bailey.

"Ooo presents. Thank you, Rachael." Bailey said happily.

"Your welcome, Bailey. I thought it might help to write it down if you…" Rachael trailed off.

"If I remember anything." Bailey finished for her gently.

"Yes, that." Rachael agreed with a blush.

"Nothing to be embarrassed about Rachael. I remember most things and people. It's just parts of the past five years are missing." Bailey said calmly.

"So you remember me?" Grace asked hopefully.

"Yes, your Grace. You're sixteen. The daughter of Danny and Rachael. I do have trouble with memories of you but I remember who you are. I also I remember we met when you were like eleven, eleven and a half just not how." Bailey explained gently.

"So you don't remember all the fun stuff we've done or babysitting me when I was younger?" Grace asked with a slight frown.

"No, I don't. I do remember that we are pretty close and spent time together. But no specific memories sweetie. I'm sorry." Bailey apologized feeling bad.

"No, Bailey babe, you have nothing to feel bad about. You didn't choose to get amnesia. This isn't on you." Danny said rushing to make Bailey feel better.

"That's the thing Danny it is partly on me. I'm the one who didn't wear my seatbelt and now I'm facing the consequence of that stupid decision." Bailey asserted.

"Bailey, honey that could have happened even if you were wearing your seatbelt. Right, Lou?" Rene asked her husband.

"Yeah, it could have but Bailey's right it was a dumb decision." Lou agreed with both women,

"Lou." Rene admonished and smacked him on the arm with the back of her hand.

"Uh-oh, Lou's getting in trouble. What did I miss?" Steve asked entering the room.

"Not much, just your wife beating herself up with some help for not wearing her seatbelt," Danny replied.

"Hey, where's my shrimp?!" Bailey playfully demanded.

"Yeah, I told Kamekona what was going on and he said to hang tight and he will bring dinner for everyone after he closes the shrimp truck," Steve explained.

"So no shrimp for now?" Junior asked.

"Junes." Tani playfully reprimanded.

Bailey laughed and said, "I know how you feel Junior, but don't worry knowing Kamekona he will probably close earlier just so he can bring his Ohana dinner."

"Yeah, but who is footing the bill for that?" Danny cracked.

"Oh for heaven's sake Danny. Do you really expect Steve and Bailey to pay for the meal with everything going on? Don't worry love I'll cover it." Rachael scolded her ex-husband and assured Bailey

"Thank you, Rachael. You don't have to do that." Bailey said gratefully.

"Perk of being married to Stan and he won't care anyway. He's aware of what's going on." Rachael said waving away Bailey's concern.

"Speaking of Stan…" Bailey said.

"Do we have to?" Danny interjected.

Bailey rolled her eyes and continued, "Is he watching Charlie? I was surprised not to see him with you and Grace."

"Yes, we decided to leave Charlie at home and Stan offered to keep an eye on him. We thought it would be better to wait until after you were out of the hospital before he saw you." Rachael said apologetically.

"Good idea. All these tubes and things might upset him. Besides he'd be bored out of his mind. Not much for a five-year-old to do in a hospital." Bailey agreed understandingly.

"That's what we were thinking too," Rachael said with a small smile.

"Okay, so you have more presents here. How about we hand them over to you and you start opening them while we wait for dinner." Lou suggested.

"Ooo more presents. Sounds good to me." Bailey responded happily.

"Thought you could use this," Adam said from the chair next to Bailey handing her a bag.

Bailey opened the bag and found a portable DVD player and some DVDs. She thanked Adam and moved on to Grace who was offering another bag. Grace's bag contained an afghan that Grace had crocheted herself. Bailey tried not to tear up and guessed that she was the one to teach Grace how to crochet. A memory that she desperately wanted back. From Tani, there were some bathroom supplies. Bailey grinned gratefully and gave Tani a hug. Junior handed over a box of chocolates. Bailey thanked him and told him that they would go perfectly with her new DVD player so she could have a movie night. Lou and Rene handed Bailey the largest bag she had received, in it was several skeins of yarn and crochet tools. Bailey clapped her hands in excitement and thanked the Grovers profusely.

"Hey don't think I didn't get you something," Danny said with a grin.

"Okay, Detective let's see it then," Bailey replied.

"Unfortunately you will have to wait, it's a present for Steve too and it's back at your guys' place," Danny told her.

"Thanks a lot, Williams." Bailey teased.

"Anytime babe." Danny shot back.

Steve felt his chest unclench a little. Vi seemed like she was quickly returning to her old self, He hoped that this was a sign that her memories were on their way to returning.

Kamekona walked in the door with several take-out bags. A collective cheer went through the room as the gang grabbed their food and sat down to eat.
