"She's late…"
"Be patient, we can't leave without her."
"And just why not?"
"Because she's leading the mission."
"We don't need her to lead when I'm here."
Sagitta sighed and rolled her eyes as he stood across from her cousin. She would be the first to admit that Delphine was skilled, but she could be so difficult to work with sometimes. She had no idea how Aqua managed to put up with her. She guessed it was just her not really caring. She was too wrapped up in whatever book that she was reading to care about their cousin's complaints.
Delphine huffed. "I just think that if someone is going to be leading a team, then the less they could do is not be late. A real princess and leader should be prompt, don't you think?" she asked, crossing her arms.
"It's only been a few minutes," Sagitta argued.
"It's the principle of the matter."
Aqua suddenly closed her book, and then looked up. "She's here."
Both Sagitta and Delphine turned towards the door just before it opened, and watched as a tall figure with long flowing dirty blonde hair walked in. She looked about nineteen or twenty, and was dressed in crimson red armor. There were a number of dimly lit red jewels running up the side of her left arm on her armor.
The thing that stood out most about her however was her piercing blue eyes. It looked like she could kill with a glare. Sagitta smiled, while Delphine scowled. Aqua on the other hand had a look of indifference. "Pray, forgive my lateness. I had an important issue to address with my brother," she said as she approached the three.
Sagitta always felt in awe whenever she was greeted by the sight of the princess of the Johansen kingdom. Scent was considered by many to be the strongest warrior of their generation, and it was hard to argue against it.
She's won so many tournaments as a kid, she'd grown bored with them and just stopped competing. She was easily the strongest warrior in the Johansen kingdom, and led her own small group known as the Valkyries. She was a beauty who had crowds of suitors lined up to court her, though only on the condition that they could best her in combat.
Sagitta had always looked up to her somewhat, even as a kid. She had been the only person in their age group who had been able to best both her older brothers and her cousin in a fight. There weren't many pure blooded mewmans who could go up against titans, let alone beat them, but she had done both and made it look easy.
Her feats on the battlefield had earned her the title of 'The Eikon'.
In a word, she was awesome.
At least if you asked most people anyway. To Delphine she was just overrated. She didn't get why everyone cared so much about and fawned over her. The most beautiful they called her. The strongest warrior they said. Sure, she was pretty, but not nearly as pretty as her. And She would admit she was strong, but it was only a matter of time before she proved she was stronger.
"It's alright. It was only a few minutes," Sagitta said.
"It shouldn't be too much of a problem," Delphine said haughtily. "We'll just have to move twice as fast to make up for the time you lost us."
Scent smiled down towards Sagitta, and the girl felt a chill up her spine. Even when she was smiling she had an intimidating aura about her. "Sagitta. It's nice to see you as always. It's good to have you along," she then turned towards Aqua. "And of course you as well little Aqua. Your magical abilities will be of great use on this particular endeavor."
"Thank you," Sagitta said, blushing slightly. Aqua just nodded back in response. Unlike her sister and cousin, she didn't feel very strongest one way or the other about Scent. She was competent, and Aqua respected her and her abilities, but she didn't fawn over or idolize her.
Delphine looked annoyed. Was she being ignored? As if reading her mind, Scent turned towards her. "And of course princess Delphine. You look well. Have you grown since I've last seen you?" she asked. "Why, given a few more years you're going to blossom into quite the beauty."
Delphine narrowed her eyes at the thinly veiled insult. She was already a beauty! It infuriated her how she acted like she was some child every time they met. "Shouldn't we get going? I don't mean to rush, but I have research to get back to," Aqua said, deciding to step in before things got anymore tense.
Scent hummed. "Yes, I suppose we'll have time for idle chat on the way. If everyone is ready, let's get moving…"
"Is that the place?"
The four royals stood before the fortress that was allegedly filled with malchemist. Despite the best efforts from the kingdoms, they had never been able to completely stamp out the fanatics. Their overall threat hadn't been what it was during their parents time, but every now and then a random group would try to rise and rebel.
There were few kingdoms who had been as eager to stamp out their rebellions than the Johansen's, who had always made it clear that they found malchemy to be nothing but a fake magic for madmen and weaklings. So when word got out that a small group of them were gathering within their borders, Tor sent his daughter to deal with them.
"I do believe it is," Scent said before turning towards Aqua. "Can you confirm?"
Aqua nodded. "It's them." Malchemy had a different feel than the magic most in mewni used. A very distinct one. And this fortress was flooded with it right now.
"So, what's the plan then?" Delphine asked.
Scent stood up. "The plan is very simple. I shall approach them with an offer, and depending on how they respond we shall either end this in a peaceful manner, or…" she let it hang as he began walking off. "If discussions do take an unfavorable turn, you're free to jump in to assist me if you please."
The other three watched as she made her way down, and Delphine scoffed. "What did she mean if we want to assist? If she didn't think she needed our help, why did she bother asking us to come?" she asked annoyed.
Sagitta hummed. "Just in case maybe. Even our dads bring others with them on missions… most of the time anyway." She would admit that sometimes her father would rather handle things himself. But sometimes her brothers were the same way. Maybe it was a Titan class thing.
"It was probably just a formality," Aqua said, going right back into her book. She knew full well that Scent didn't need their help. They were here just to show good faith between their families. Which honestly in her eyes was a waste of time.
Scent made her way closer towards the fortress, and suddenly a number of figures popped out from around her and began closing in. "Oh stump," Sagitta said.
"I knew it wouldn't be that easy," Delphine said, reaching for her sword.
Aqua held her hand up. "Wait. She'll handle it."
The two teens both looked skeptical, but turned back towards the scene unfolding. They could see her saying something towards the one surrounding her, but they couldn't quite make out what. She spoke back and forth with them for a few moments, and then suddenly saw the malchemist reaching for their weapons.
But before they could even get a hand on them, in one swift movement, Scent pulled out a sword and spun around. They saw a red slash shoot out from her blade, and then all at once, the men before her all fell to the ground. "You're kidding me…" Delphine muttered. How in the heck could she be so fast? She barely even saw her move.
Sagitta was wide eyed. How could someone react that quickly? Even she hadn't completely registered what had gone on before it was over. "I told you," Aqua said, closing her book again. "If you want your chance, then get ready. More are coming."
The gates of the fortress opened, and suddenly more malchemist began rushing out, weapons drawn and at the ready. Scent turned towards them, and one of the jewels on her armor glowed. Her sword was suddenly swapped out for a lance, and she smiled deviously. "Come now. If this is to be your final stand, then at least try not to bore me…" she muttered, walking forward.
"C'mon!" Sagitta shouted as she pulled out her scissors blades. There was way more than their info had led them to think. But it wasn't like they could turn back now anyway. Besides, the four of them should have been more than enough for this. Delphine were right beside her, and Aqua casually floated after them.
Sagitta and Delphine panted as they looked around the battlefield. That… had been trying. They'd ended up fighting wave after wave of enemies, and after a while they had honestly wondered if there was going to be any end to them. After they defeated the first way of malchemist, the others had retreated and used some sort of spell to conjure up golems out of the stone and trees around them.
They'd managed to hold their own of course, but without being able to break into the fortress and deal with the ones casting the spell, it had dragged on. Eventually Delphine had pointed this out, at which point Scent leapt into the air and… destroyed the entire base. There was nothing left of it but rubble and dust.
"Well, that was annoying…" Aqua said, frowning. She had never been one for close combat. It wasn't that she couldn't get up close and personal, she just prefer not to. So she had stayed up and out of reach of the enemy, firing down spells upon them from a distance. But if it had come down to just blowing up the entire base, they should have done that from the beginning.
Scent stood in front of what was left of the base, looking bored. There wasn't a single scratch on her, and she wasn't even out of breath. She sighed. How disappointing. She'd been hoping there would be some final ace up their sleeve. But it seemed like all they had were desperate last ditch tactics.
There was no sport in hunting prey like this.
She turned towards the others, her weapons vanishing into thin air as she approached. "Well fought. You managed to hold you down well. I do appreciate the assistance. We may make Valkyries out of you three yet," she said.
Sagitta smiled back. While she wanted to be a scissor enforcer alongside her grandmother for now, the thought of standing alongside Scent and the other Valkyries was a pretty cool thought too. Delphine just rolled her eyes. As if she wanted to join her dumb little group. "We should head back. We've earned a well deserved rest."
Sagitta put her scissors away and nodded. "Yeah, I could use a shower."
"Same," Delphine said, sheathing her sword.
The two walked off, and Scent moved to follow them. But then stopped, and looked up at Aqua. The girl was staring down at her intensely. "Is something wrong Aqua?"
"You already knew the ones hiding inside were controlling those golems. You knew you could destroy the entire base and end it. So why drag it out?" she asked. "Why did you wait until Delphine said something?
Scent smiled back. "Why did you?"
"Curiosity." Aqua had been watching her the whole time. She had only come on this mission to observe her. But what she had seen didn't make any sense. Not to her anyway. She could have ended it single handedly, so why?
Scent laughed. "I suppose I wanted to have a bit more fun. See if they had anything else they'd throw at us. And I just wanted to see if Sagitta or Delphine would notice. They're not quite as sharp as you little princess. This was a good learning experience, was it not?" she asked.
Aqua just kept staring down at her. Scent was a mystery. A puzzle she couldn't quite solve. In both her personality, and her battle technique. It was like she was always one step ahead of her enemy. Like she knew what was coming.
"Would you like to know my secret?" Aqua flinched. "You've always been a curious little thing, so I thought you might wonder. And I trust you with the secret. So, care to know?"
Aqua felt a bit annoyed. She was usually good at figuring things like this out herself, but she couldn't quite pin what it was. And that irked her. Still, she was too curious to turn down the offer. She nodded. "You do know what my magical ability is, don't you?"
Aqua nodded once more. "Scale Impact." It was a magical ability that let her increase the force of the impact on her body, as well as decrease any impact of those around her. With the right timing she could multiply her, speed and the strength of her attacks. And she could decrease even the strongest of attacks into almost nothing.
The first time she had seen it was when she had caught her brother's fist. Lacerta was the physically strongest and sturdiest among them, and she'd blocked, sent him flying, and injured him easily.
"That's right. But, did you also know I have a second ability?" she asked. Aqua's eyes widened. Scent pointed up towards her eyes. "I can look into the future."
"What?!" Aqua asked. "That's impossible!" Only a select few could use that type of magic in mewni, and only two could do it without it taking a major toll on them. Not even she had been able to master that skill yet.
Scent held her hand up. "It's true. It's nothing major of course. I can only see it through my eyes, so any events I'm not involved with are beyond me. And it's only a few seconds. In the grand scheme of things, it's a rather unimpressive ability. But combined with Scale Impact…"
Aqua hummed. If she really could see into the future, even if just for a few seconds, she would always know what move her opponents were making. And with Scale Impact boosting her she could react to it easily. It was no wonder hardly anyone was ever able to touch her.
"Why would you tell me this?" Aqua asked.
"Because you have nothing to gain by telling anyone. And even if you did, it wouldn't really matter," she said simply. "My ability being known won't make anyone trying to best me any stronger, and it certainly won't make me any weaker. If anything maybe it'll provide me with a bit of a challenge for once."
Aqua watched as she turned and walked off. She would have to keep an eye on her. A very close eye. She knew she would get some great research out of it.
Scent just hummed as she followed after Delphine and Sagitta. She would have to ask them how their brothers were doing. It went without saying that the three Titans were worthy sport for her, so she was interested in making sure they were still striving to get stronger. As for their younger sisters, they had potential. They could make worthy allies someday, or even better, worthy rivals...
A/N: Introduction fic for Scent! I wanted to portray her as one of, if not the most badass warrior of her generation. I just thought the idea that with all these titans running around the biggest bully on the block is a regular mewman girl. Her personality is a little different than I initially described, but that happens with a lot of my characters honestly lol.
She's pretty much a laid back blood knight trope. She's got a mind for battle and her abilities and tactics make her almost untouchable, so she got bored really quickly taking down regular opponents. She's interested in Turq, Dorado, and Lars since she gets the best fight out of them. (And she might be sort of romantically in the former) I based her off of Zenos from FF14 if you're looking for a reference.
