Jia had never been to the forge before. Mostly because she never had a reason to before now. When she showed up to mewni, she usually just went to wherever Breeze, Nia, or Astro was. Today's events were happening because it had been the ladder. She was supposed to be doing some sword sparring with the prince.

Breeze was her mentor, but when it came to swordsmanship, Astro was said to be unmatched. She had asked for him to show her her technique and a few pointers, and curious to see her own style of swordsmanship, he had agreed.

Things had been going pretty well until… well…

She knew Ocean's Kiss was tough. She'd heard it was made of a special crystal. And whatever that crystal was was clearly stronger than her sword's material, because it shattered her blade like glass.

Jia had been sort of stunned. It wasn't like she was overly attached to her sword or anything, but she just hadn't expected it to be broken like that. Astro had quickly apologized and gathered up her broken weapon, telling her that it could be fixed by their blacksmith, and led her to the forge.

The girl noted just how hot it was. Everyone they passed looked like they had walked was sweating bullets, and she could see heat waves pretty much everywhere she looked. The only reason she seemed to be fine was because Astro was using a spell to cool down the area around them.

"Alright, just to let you know, Puff is very particular about his workshop," Astro said as he approached the door. "Make sure not to touch anything. If you start meddling around I won't be able to keep him from kicking you out."

Jia nodded. "Got it." She hadn't seen this Puff guy, but Breeze mentioned he was an oddball. She figured it was best to let Astro handle this. The prince knocked on the large metal doors and then stepped back. A few moments later, they opened, and Jia looked up wide eyed at the towering armored figure before them. "Whoa…"

This guy looked like a boss in some kind of medieval themed video game.

Astro waved towards the behemoth. "Hey Puff. I hope you aren't busy. I was hoping you could do me a favor," he said before gesturing towards Jia.

Jia flinched as the goliath turned towards her. She couldn't see any of his face from under his helmet. Just a faint glow in the eyes slots that she assumed were his eyes. She waved back at him shyly. "Uh, hey… sort of had an accident with my sword. I hope you don't mind helping me out," she said.

He stared at her for a bit longer, then grunted before pushing the rest of the door open. Astro patted her shoulder and nodded towards the entrance, and Jia nodded back before making her way inside. Puff's workshop was filled with weapons and armor that hung along all the walls.

There was a large table with a stone slab in the middle, and a number of tools hanging on a rack up above, a raging fire off to the side, and… magma? "Jingren. This place is awesome," she said looking around. Sol chirped before flying off of her shoulder and towards the fire place. He landed and settled into the flames, making himself comfy.

Puff let out a low growl, but ultimately decided to just ignore the bird. "The sword," he said gesturing towards Jia. The girl lifted the bag that Astro had gathered the pieces in and dumped them on the table.

"Yeah, it's in pretty bad shape. I don't know if you can forge it back together or…?"

Puff reached down and picked up the largest piece of the blade. He looked over it closely. "It's made of an earth metal," Astro said, already knowing what he was thinking.

The blacksmith scoffed. "I'm not repairing this," he said bluntly.

Jia frowned. "What? Why not?" she asked, stepping forward. "Look, I know it might be a pretty hard job but-"

"This isn't worth reforging. I'm making a new one…"

The girl looked wide eyed. "Wait? Really? Like brand new?" she asked.

Puff nodded before turning around and opening up the front of a large cabinet. Astro whistled. "Lucky you. Not everyone gets a personally made custom sword from Puff," the prince explained.

"Wow, thank you," Jia said. A sword from the supposed best blacksmith in mewni. She hadn't expected that when she got up today, but she wasn't about to turn it down.

Puff just grunted in response. He honestly wouldn't have bothered if Astro hadn't asked him. When the prince asked him for a favor, he delivered. He began gathering everything that he needed. A hilt, some pieces of ore, a red crystal, and a number of other things. Jia watched closely. Interested in seeing just how he worked.

He took another glance at what was left at her old sword, and then grabbed a slab of metal along with a knife. He started carving away at it, and Astro hummed. "Sure you want to wait down here? It's going to take a while," he said.

Jia smiled. "I'm fine. This is pretty interesting." For such a big guy, he was pretty delicate when using his tools. It was almost like he was painting or something.

They watched as he slowly and carefully kept carving at the weapon, and soon enough Jia could make out a lotus shaped forming. Was that the cross guard?

After a while, Puff moved on, grabbing a sturdy looking bucket and scooping up a bit of the magma that had been flowing through the corner of the room. He set it on the table before grabbing the pieces of ore. He broke them apart, staring at them closely to measure them, and then dumped a certain amount inside.

He then reached down and grabbed one of the red crystals on the table. Jia watched, wondering just what he was going to do with it. Then looked surprised when he crushed it in his hand. "Fire crystals, from the Underworld. Very rare," Astro explained. He wondered just when Puff had managed to get his hands on those.

"If they're so rare then why is he crushing them like that?" Jia asked. Puff sprinkled the crystal, which was now a red powder, into the mix of magma and ore. "Oh."

He got ready to start to mix the combination together, but suddenly Sol chirped. They all watched as the bird flew from the fire and perched on the edge of the bucket. "What's he doing?" Astro asked, confused.

Puff groaned in annoyance and tried to shoo the bird away, but he hoped over his hand and right to the other side of the bucket. Sol reached back and then plucked one of his tail feathers off. It dropped it inside of the bucket before hoping down onto the table. "Is it… is it trying to help craft the sword?" Astro asked.

"Pretty sure, yeah," Jia said nodding.

Puff stared at the bird, and then down at the bucket. The feather melted into the rest of the mix, sizzling as it vanished. The goliath had no idea just what this was going to do to the weapon. It wasn't as if he'd ever added phoenix feather to a mix before. But… it seemed stable, and he had a feeling this wasn't just some dumb bird thing.

He grabbed the bucket, mixing it carefully before pouring into the metal slab he'd carved out for the blade. The liquid was red hot, but Jia could already make out the shape of it easily. "Wow… so are we waiting for it to cool down?" Jia asked.

Puff shook his head. "We're just getting started…"

Jia and Astro watched as Puff continued working. He repeatedly heated up the blade, sticking it inside of the small coke forge he had. Rather than heat it up with the fuel he had, Sol would shoot a blaze of fire at it. Puff seemed somewhat annoyed, but let it slide. It saved him some fuel at least.

When he started hammering away at the metal, Jia winced. As delicate as he was earlier, he was showing off his brute strength now. It was clear he was still aiming and being careful, but she could feel the force behind each swing.

It seemed like it took forever before he finally seemed satisfied, and dipped the sword into the quenching bucket. Steam shot out from the bucket, and after a bit, Puff pulled the freshly forged sword up and held it into the air. "Ready to test it?"

Jia smiled as she swung the sword through the air. It felt so light in her hands. But from the way she had sliced through the training dummies earlier, it was even more sturdy.

"How's it feel?" Puff asked.

She turned towards him and nodded. "It feels great. It's almost like I'm holding… a plasma sword or something." She could feel the heat coming off of it, but it didn't bother or burn her. Maybe that was because of Sol's little contribution, or maybe Puff just really knew what he was doing. Either way, this was cool. It felt like she could cut through anything.

"When Puff makes a sword for someone, he knows just how to perfectly suit it for him," Astro said as he watched her jab as another dummy, poking straight through it's chest.

Jia turned around and sheathed the sword. "It sure feels like it. Thanks again for this. I really owe you one," she said bowing towards Puff.

He waved her off. "Your Queensguard. You owe nothing," he said. Sol landed on his head and chirped, and Puff grunted. He was gonna let this slide just this once since he helped him with the sword.

Astro walked towards Jia. "So, what's its name?" he asked.

Jia looked towards him curiously. "A name?"

"That's a sword crafted with some of the rarest materials in mewni, by the greatest smith in mewni. I think it's worthy of a proper name," Astro said.

She looked down at her and hummed. "I guess you're right… but I can't think of anything right now," she said before smiling. "But when I do, you two will be the first to know."

A/N: Another commission from Laylaylamode featuring Puff crafting a brand new sword for Jia! I wasn't very descriptive with the sword and didn't name it since I figured she could design and name it herself (I feel like I'm a pretty good writer, but Callyie, Laylaylamode and the others are way better when it comes to character designs)

Also I admittedly don't know much about blacksmithing. I looked up the process and some of the tools used, but still not sure just how accurate I got it lol. So don't take this as the standard for smithing. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed!
