Chapter 4: School for Mutants
My mother ends up leading us to a large, metal...thing. I frown at it before asking, "What is that?"
"What is what?" ice boy asks snobbishly.
"The giant metal thing." I tell him as if speaking to a worm and expecting it to understand.
"You mean the jet?" he asks. "How do you not know what a jet is? They teach about them in kindergarten! What kid your age doesn't know about them?"
"The kind of kid who doesn't know what 'kindergarten' is. Also, I will kill you if you make it sound like I'm an idiot for not knowing something I was never taught again." I sneer at him before turning to my mother, "What is a 'jet' and what does it do?"
"That is a jet, it is designed to fly us to whatever destination we need to go too. This one is one that the group I work with fondly call the X-Jet. We're going to fly to the school I work for in it." she tells me and I frown a bit; I'm not too comfortable with the idea of flying artificially when I have wings I could use instead.
"It looks pretty nice...but can me and Aeolus just fly behind you guys? We have wings and I don't like the idea of flying in that thing." I say while looking up at her.
"Can you keep up?" she asks in a worried tone, "The jet goes very fast."
"When I fly I can travel at the speed of shadows and Aeolus can go at the speed of light. We also will have no problem with Stamina because the lab made us work on that during training." I sneer the word training because that was really just torture disguised as exercise.
She hesitates for a minute before saying, "If you're sure. But you have to promise you'll stay close." I grin and promise immediately. She smiles at me before saying, "Ok, you two can fly back."
"Awesome!" I say excitedly. While everyone else loads into the X-Jet Aeolus and I take off and begin flying around. As soon as the jet is flying off we turn and fly next to the jet. It takes an hour to get to the apparent school. I feel much better now that I'm flying in an actual sky, not a simulation room. It isn't long before I land on the lawn of a large three-story mansion, on the front porch is a man in a wheelchair, a kind looking red headed woman, and a tough looking man in an old looking leather jacket. I walk up to them, my siblings walk up next to me as I stop in front of them, looking at the wheelchair bound man and asking, "Are you the one that found us?"
"Yes, I am. My name is Charles Xavier, I have telepathic abilities. The woman to my right is Jean Grey, she is also a telepath. The man to my left is Logan, he has metallic claws and super healing, among other things. May I ask for your names?" he asks politely.
"I'm Shock'n'awe. To my right is Aeolus, Nightshade, and Jekyll. To my left is Artemis, Apollo, and Hyde. I'm sorry for the chaos I apparently caused." I tell him. "Is it true that the scream was heard all over the world?"
"Yes. It was. The phenomenon was reported on the international news. Thousands of people all over the world heard you when you screamed." he tells me. "Myself and Jane included."
"Sorry." I say, tilting my head a bit.
"No need to apologize. It was really quite impressive and alerted us to several different potential students all over the world." Xavier tells me.
"So, can we get a tour?" Jekyll asks, "Preferably before Shock starts rambling about what her ability could potentially do and whether or not she can use other humans as amplifiers."
"What? It would be a very interesting and useful ability in cases of the enemies having extreme numbers and–" I say but once again get interrupted.
"Let's get a tour before you ramble on, Shock." Hyde reminds me.
"Right." I then turn to Xavier. "Jekyll and Hyde need to share a room. Nightshade, Apollo and Aeolus need to share too. Same with me and Artemis."
"I'll make the arrangements." he promises before turning around and wheeling away. We follow after him and he takes us on a tour before delivering us to a set of rooms. He tells us which rooms are ours and I enter the girls room and see that me and Artemis apparently are sharing with two other students. I take one of the two beds that I'm told are free and sit on it hesitantly.
Once everyone except our two roommates, Rogue and another girl we're told is named Kitty, leave I lay down and feel my back muscles relax for the first time I can remember. I sigh in relief and close my eyes, passing out as it fully registers that I'm free from the lab.
The next morning comes and I sigh, expecting last night to have been a dream before realizing that my muscles aren't tense. I take a slow breath and find that I can breath properly. I sit up and open my eyes, finding the same room from last night, everyone else awake except for Artemis, who the others seem to be trying to wake up.
They notice me awake and Kitty says, "Hey, can you, like, tell us how to wake her up. It's almost breakfast time and we're supposed to, like, introduce you to a few of the others."
"Artemis, wake up, last night wasn't just a dream." I say.
Artemis shifts a bit before stretching and getting up. She looks around before smiling at me and saying, "Good morning Shock. Are you alright now? Because you said you wouldn't be until you were free and you are free now...wait, have you had coffee yet?"
"I'm alright. Haven't had coffee. Let's go wake the others up before the people here decide they've died in their sleep or something, then go get me coffee." I tell her.
I get up and Artemis and I walk into the hall, finding the boys' roommates carrying them towards us. I watch as one of them, the guy who shoots face lasers, looks at me and says, "We can't wake your brothers up."
"Set them down, they'll react violently if they wake up in someones arms." I order with a scowl and the boys get set on the ground gently. "Wake up boys, I need to get some coffee and that can't happen while you're asleep."
The boys all shift around a bit before sitting up and looking around. They register where they are and grin before getting up, stretching and looking at me. I turn and walk to the kitchen, where I find my mother doing something at what they called a stove yesterday. I then spot the coffee pot that is next to her and the line of mugs. I walk over, picking up a chair as I do, and go to her side. I climb onto the chair and grab a mug from the line.
I pour some coffee into it and my mother looks over before asking, "Is something wrong?"
"I need coffee." I mutter as I pick up the mug and take a drink of it.
"Shock's electricity mutation causes an imbalance in her biochemistry that causes her to be volatile. Caffeine balances her out." Hyde explains as I hear someone else walk in, they apparently spot me because a second later the cup of coffee is gone and I'm getting ready to murder someone.
I turn and find a girl with short brown hair putting something in my coffee. I growl and she hands me the cup again. I look in it and find that it's now a different color. I look at her, than at my mother.
"She added creamer to it. It changes the flavor." my mother says and I nod before taking a small drink and tasting a delicious flavor I've never had before, but know as mint from the memories of my minions. I take another drink and sigh before looking at the girl.
"Thank you for adding that. But never take my coffee from my hands again." I tell her before going to sit at the counter with my siblings.
"That's Raine Sinclair." my mother tells us, "Her mutant name is Wolfsbane, she can turn into a wolf. She's going to be trying to help you find things that you enjoy doing."
My siblings and I all share confused looks before I look back at my mother and ask, "But what about our combat training?"
"What do you mean, combat training?" my mother asks in a concerned tone.
"Well..." I say before glancing at Artemis, who nods, "the lab was training and experimenting on us for a reason, each of us has a different one."
"What are the reasons?" my mother asks and we all share looks before looking back at her.
"I keep the others alive." Apollo tells her.
"The rest of us have people we're supposed to kill." I tell her and the room goes silent for a moment, "But I've made it my life's purpose to defy the lab in every way I can, so I'm not exactly planning on going after my target."
"Who is your target?" my mother asks and I tilt my head a bit.
"Magneto." I tell her simply.
