"Oh man, I can't wait for this."
"I know right!"
"Hmm… do you think the cookies were a good idea? I mean they'll like the cookies right? Maybe I should have made a few different batches in case everybody doesn't like chocolate chips."
Nenet rolled her eyes at the back and forth between her brothers. "JJ, there isn't anybody who doesn't like chocolate chips, and we're not here to eat cookies," she said balling her fist up and smiling. "We're here to get some training in." She had been waiting for this ever since Astro had invited them.
There weren't really any other titans on earth aside from her family, so that really shrunk down the list of people she could cut loose again. But mewni had plenty of them, and she couldn't wait to go toe to toe with them. "I know, but I want to make a good impression. And everyone likes cookies," JJ said smiling.
He was just excited to meet some other titans. It was cool knowing that there were others like them in mewni, and he was eager to get to know them.
"I'm just hoping to find some secrets on being a titan," Nico said, pushing his glasses up. He planned on becoming a titan at some point, and he thought it would help to observe actual titans besides his siblings. At the very least it couldn't hurt anyway. Maybe he could ask Astro if there was some way to help the process.
Nenet smirked. "Yeah, watch and learn little bro. And JJ… you be careful. I really only know about Lars and his buddies, but I heard titans from mewni can be pretty rough." She had confidence in her little brother but… well, he could be on the clumsy side. Like a lot actually. She didn't want him getting hurt.
"Don't worry, I got this," he said.
As they approached the gates of the castle gates, they could hear sounds from the other side. When they got closer, they saw two figures rushing at one another. Dorado and Turq both swung their sword, the sound of metal against metal ringing through the air as their blades clashed.
Turq smirked as she tried to push his younger cousin back, while Dorado had a look of laser focus in his eyes. "You've been practicing…" Turq said chuckling.
"Never stopped," Dorado said before the two began swinging at one another. Nenet hummed as she watched the sparks fly, while her brothers looked on in awe. They had never seen such skilled swordplay before.
The two jumped back from one another, both looking ready to charge right back in, but then noticed the three siblings approaching. Dorado lowered his sword and then turned towards them. "Ah, you made it," he said, sheathing his sword. "I was worried that I may have had to come and find you."
Nenet laughed. "You kidding? I've been here enough times to know my way around. So what's up Dorby? Been trying to keep your brother in line?" she asked.
She suddenly felt a smack on her rear, and looked over her shoulder to see Lacerta. "Nobody keeps me in line, kitten. I'm too much of a monster for anyone to handle," he said. Dorado and Turq both rolled their eyes as the others who had been watching them began to gather around.
Nenet punched Lars arm and smirked. "You sure about that? I think I can handle you pretty well, in a lot of fucking ways," she said. Dorado and Turq both grimaced as she turned towards the rest of the King's Crew. "What's up guys?"
Raza waved back at her. "Hey Nenet," he said.
Pavo offered a nonchalant wave, while Dagon… looked towards her, and then her brothers. He grunted. "Who're the small fries?" he asked, making both JJ and Nico flinch. "One of them looks weak, and the other one isn't even a titan. Why are they here?" he asked, looking slightly annoyed.
A hand suddenly smacked him in the back of the head, and he scowled back at his sister. "Don't be rude," Ravana said, popping her gum.
Nenet looked at the new face curiously. She had never seen this chick hanging out with them before, but it seemed like she knew how to keep Dagon in check. "These are my brothers, JJ and Nico. JJ's here to get some training in with us, and Nico wants to be a titan someday, so he tagged along too."
She then turned towards her brothers. "Guys, this is Lacerta and his flunkies. The big cute one is Raza, the little psycho is Dagon, and fabio over here is Pavo," she explained before getting to Ravana. "And… sorry, I don't know you."
"We're not flunkies!" Dagon shouted angrily.
"It's Ravana," she said simply. "I'm the psycho's older sister."
"Cool."
Nico stepped forward. "Sup, Prince Lars. My sis has straight up told me about how you and your crew keep it real. How you guys be poppin' with some funky monster rep in your step. Mad props," he said holding his fist out.
Lars looked at him confused. He caught most of that, but chunks of it sounded like a bunch of that earth slang stuff Nenet would spit out sometime. Raza leaned forward and bumped his fist. "Uh… thanks I guess," Lars said looking towards Nenet, who just smirked and shrugged.
JJ then stepped forward to introduce himself as well. He took a deep breath, and Nenet sighed. She already knew he was about to go on a ramble. Always did when he got super nervous about something.
"H-Hi! I'm JJ. Nice to meet you. I mean, I've actually met Lars already but it's my first time meeting the rest of you. It's amazing that there are so many Titans on Mewni. There's only about five on Earth but they're part of our family so… not to say our family isn't strong?! Or that you guys aren't strong?! It's just-"
The boy suddenly tripped, but without missing a beat, Nenet caught the box of cookies and then caught her brother by the back of his shirt.
"...I brought cookies…"
Dagon burst out in laughter, while Lacerta smirked and turned towards the others. "Kid has a hard time staying on his feet huh? Isn't there an earth expression with cats about that or something?," he asked amused.
He was suddenly stuck in the back of the head, and scowled towards Nenet who was holding up Daybreaker. "Yeah, there's also another expression on Earth. It's 'Keep talking shit about my family and I'm gonna punch you so hard in the dick that it reverses your puberty, Lizard Boy'. You hear me?" she asked glaring.
Lars sighed. "You're way too protective of them. They're gonna turn out to be wimps," he said as he and Dagon began reaching for the box of cookies.
Nenet slapped both their hands. "You can have a cookie when you stop being dicks. And I'm not overprotective just because I don't pick on them you asshole," she said holding them out towards the others.
Dorado took one and smiled. "Thank you," he said, taking a bite. "Mm… these are delicious," he said, impressed.
Turq nodded. "Yeah, not bad." This could give Jez a run for her money when it came to the baking department.
Ravana grabbed her own cookie, then quickly pulled it away from Dagon's reach. "Get you own you little insect," he said, shoving him away.
Pavo walked over and grabbed Nico by the shoulders. "I understood about half of what you were saying. I would suggest trying to cut down on the slang a bit for everyone else's sake. Or at least taking it a bit slower. Preferably with big words so Dagon can keep up."
"Hey!"
"Oh…"
"Alright, quit picking up my brothers already," Nenet said scowling. She then shoved Dagon back, who'd been hovering over JJ and giving him a strange look. "Personal space dude. You seriously need to learn it."
Dagon grunted. "He doesn't have instincts like you. Is he really a titan?"
JJ frowned and was about to answer him, but then heard a heavy noise coming their way. A large shadow loomed over the group, and the siblings turned around and grew wide eyed when they saw Fum walking towards them. "Oh shit…" Nico said, shocked. It was like a walking skyscraper was headed towards them.
"Hey guys, we going to get started soon?" the giant asked looking towards Dorado. He then noticed the others. "Oh hey, you must be Junji and Basteta's kids. I heard the captain was inviting you. It's nice to meet you. I'm Fum."
Nenet whistled, while JJ and Nico both kept staring up in awe. He was so tall. They'd heard about giants from their parents, but to see them up close and personal was amazing. "Yes, we're about ready to start I think." Everyone looked over and saw Astro approaching. Azalea was walking beside him, holding his hand.
"Hey uncle Astro!" JJ said, waving.
Astro smiled and waved back. "Hey there. Glad you three could make it. And Nico came too I see," he said looking towards the boy.
"Hope you don't mind," Nico said.
"Not at all. The more the merrier."
Azalea let go of Astro's hand and made her way towards Nico. She looked over the boy, and then her eyes stopped on his book. "You're not a titan, but… you have a lot of magic. And that book is mystical," she pointed out.
Nico smiled and held the book up. "Oh this? It's the book of Thoth. It has a whole bunch of pretty cool spells, and I can even do summoning magic with it," he said.
"So you can't even fight on your own? You gotta summon pets to do it for you?" Dagon mocked. Ravana once again smacked him in the back of the head. "Ah! C'mon!"
Azalea hummed. "My mama and I aren't physically strong among titans either, but our magic is really strong," she said, making a small bed of flowers suddenly sprout from the ground. "So I think that's fine."
Nico smiled, feeling a bit more confident that someone acknowledges his magical talents rather than his physical ones. "She's right," Astro said. "You may be monsters but your skill sets are different. Even among the titans our abilities and skills all vary," he said. "You all need to learn what your strengths are, improve them, and cover your weaknesses as well. And we do that, through training…"
Nenet gave a devious smile, while Nico and JJ shared a glance. "Call Wisteria and Scent and tell them we're ready to get started."
Nenet flipped back as Wisteria swung her spear at the girl. She smiled as kept dodging as she stepped towards her, spinning it around at blinding speed. "Not bad beastkin girl," Wisteria said smiling. "Looks like some people on Earth know how to throw down after all."
"Oh, I'm just getting started!" Nenet said, shooting a blast of fire at her. Wisteria's whole body turned into slime, and split apart to avoid it. Nenet kept firing at her, but the slime was moving about quickly, dodging each blast. The pieces slipped behind her and Wisteria reformed her body, then swung at her again.
Nenet turned around and countered with her own weapon. "Now this is pretty fun, don't you think?" Wisteria asked, amused.
"Hell yeah."
Wisteria apparently wasn't an actual titan. Something about her biology and being slime or some stuff that she tuned out halfway through Dorado's explanation. But she was strong as hell, and you couldn't really tell the difference between her or any of the others. This was a blast. "Hope this isn't all you got though…" Wisteria said.
Nenet laughed. "You kidding? I'm just getting warmed up," she said, eyes glowing slightly. Her magical power spiked, and Wisteria's smile grew as she felt the air around them begin to heat up.
"Nenet, don't use that form…" She looked over her shoulder towards Astro, who was watching over some of the others. "I'd like to keep the courtyard somewhat intact, and if I let you all just start going wild it's going to be ruined." He knew what happened whenever she and Lacerta got serious. She and Wisteria wouldn't be much better.
She pouted. She'd been hoping that she and JJ would get to show off their other forms, but it looked like that was off the table. "Well, that sucks. I wanted to see the ace up your hole," Wisteria said. "Guess we just have to make do."
Meanwhile, JJ was matching up against Raza. He kept up the force field around him as the goliath pushed against it. He had gone from polite and docile to… well, downright terrifying. "Break, break, break!" he shouted as he kept charging forward. JJ saw a few cracks forming in the force field, which surprised him.
Until now his shield had been… well, unbreakable. Not even his sister could break through them. But Raza was so strong. He was really putting him to the test. "You need to focus JJ. if you lose concentration your shield will begin to shatter," Dorado called from the side.
"He's too soft," Lacerta said with a yawn. "To green. Not like his sister."
"Nenet is used to fighting other titans thanks to you and the others. He isn't. Give him some time. I'm sure he can adjust," Dorado said.
Raza lifted his arms up and then swung down, smashing through the shield. JJ rolled off to the side and avoided it. Raza charged at him again, and JJ growled before raising his arms and creating another force field, this time around Raza. He gripped his fist and the force field began closing in, trying to pin him down.
"Hmm, impressive…" Dorado said.
Lars narrowed his eyes. "No way that loser can hold down Raza…"
Raza pushed against the shield, and then let out a shout as he flexed his whole body, shattering it again. JJ slid back, but quickly balanced himself. He was smiline. "This is… pretty fun," he said holding up his hands again. He'd sparred with his sister plenty of times before, but this was different. He was being pushed in a whole new way.
Raza charged at him and swung, but JJ leapt up into the air. Raza looked around confused, but then heard flapping and looked up to see him flying in the air, now in his dragon form. He took in a breath before shooting a blast of fire at him.
"That's new," Dorado said. "Looks like he's a lot tougher than you pegged him for."
When the flames died down, Raza let out a breath, and then looked up with an even wider smile. "This is fun," he said rolling his shoulders back. "This is really fun!"
JJ nodded. "Yeah…"
They charged at one another, JJ flying in close but avoiding Raza's blows, while the goliath continued to swing at him wildly, shaking off his attacks. "He's alright," Lars muttered. Maybe Nenet wasn't as soft on her brothers as he thought.
Astro chuckled at his sons back and forth before looking over towards Nico. The boy was standing next to Pavo and Azalea, who were both holding balloons in their hands. "Focus kid. You have a lot of magic, but your control of it is too… linear," Pavo stated. Between both his parents he'd had years to perfect his own magical abilities. And Azalea was a natural from the start.
The balloon in Nico's hands popped, and he sighed. "Man, this is way more tricky than I thought…" he muttered. When Astro told them to inflate the balloon with magic without popping it, he figured it'd be easy. Pavo and Azalea made it look easy anyway. But if he put even the tiniest bit too much, or didn't go at the right pace, it popped in an instant.
"Don't try to regulate it based on what you think. Just let it flow at whatever your natural pace. Use your instincts," Astro said. He could tell the boy had an aptitude for light and dark magic. A rare trait. But he was going to have to learn how to balance them if he wanted to be able to switch between them without wearing his body out.
Nico nodded, and let out a breath, trying to let his magic flow naturally. The balloon was still shaky, but was more stabilized than before. Astro grunted and turned towards JJ again. Turq was slowing things down for the kid, which he was thankful for. He could tell he had instincts. He just hadn't honed them like his sister yet.
"Why are my kids all fighting on some school playground type shit?"
Astro looked over his shoulder and saw Basteta walking towards him, a scowl on her face. He grunted. "I'd really been hoping you were headed somewhere else when I sensed you. Unlucky me," he muttered.
Basteta flipped him off. "Yeah, yeah, a pleasure as always king asshat. Now again, what's up with all the fights going on between the kids?" she asked.
"I'm trying to help them get in touch with their instincts. I know there's no inoffensive way to say this, but you're kids are soft… except the girl," he said as he watched Nenet kick Wisteria back. The other girl tumbled to the ground but rolled back up to her feet before charging right back at her. "She can hold her own. The others have potential. They just need it brought out."
Basteta narrowed her eyes. "Well excuse the hell out of me for not trying to turn my kids into child soldiers. Nenet is better at fighting cause she likes fighting. The others have their own things going on, and I let them do it," she said crossing her arms. "What is it with mewni and teaching all their kids how to fight? Don't ya'll have other things ya like to do around here?"
Astro rolled his eyes. "Mewni isn't like earth. These kids are monsters, titans. Things are better than they were before but… they still have to learn to defend themselves," he explained. There were still people who were afraid of them, and who targeted his family in particular. "I sort of envy you. Earth is far less hostile for you and yours."
Basteta clicked her tongue. "Yeah well… we got our own issues to deal with," she said. She knew the way mewni worked was way different than Earth. For the most part her family was pretty covered when it came to protections. She looked towards JJ. Dorado and Turq were trying to give him some advice on his stance. "But, them learning how to defend themselves ain't a bad thing I guess… you know my kids are totally gonna whoop your kids asses eventually, right?" she asked, smirking.
Astro scowled. "Oh for fucks sake…"
