A month later Teddy and Owen walked into Mercy West to see Carly.
"You okay," Owen asked.
"I really want to hold Cienna," Teddy said.
"You were in surgery all night and didn't get much sleep," he argued.
"It's Sunday," she said, "we're off. Go see our niece then home and relax with a movie on the couch."
"Movie is code for a nap," he teased.
"Maybe," she smiled.
The found the room where Carly, Josh and baby Cienna were. Teddy knocked softly at the door.
"Teddy," Carly called.
They walked into the room Teddy immediately going to the bassinet where the baby was sleeping.
"Carly she's gorgeous," Teddy smiled stroking the baby's cheek with her finger.
"She is," Carly agreed.
"May I," Teddy asked.
"Hold her and bring her here," Carly said.
Teddy gently picked up the baby and cradled her close smiling at the little face. Owen watched her hold the baby and saw the tears in Teddy's eyes.
"You okay," he whispered putting a hand softly on her back.
"Excited for ours," she replied.
"Me two," he smiled at the baby.
"Teddy are you okay," Carly asked.
"Yes," Teddy answered, "why wouldn't I be?"
"I haven't seen you cry since mom," Carly replied.
"Happy tears," Teddy said, "and I'm not in control of my Emotions. Are you okay?"
"I can't take my eyes off her," Carly smiled.
Teddy sat on the edge of her sister's bed carding the baby.
"Josh got dizzy the blood did it," Carly said, "will Owen be okay?"
"He's a trauma surgeon," Teddy said, "blood is something he deals with every day."
"You," Carly looked skeptical.
"We'll see. But he's seen his sister injured and had to work on her," Teddy said, "it was minor but he still sewed up Megan's back."
"He has a sister," Cary asked.
"Two," Teddy said, "Megan we lost 18 months ago then Amanda you met shes 15."
"The kid you were babysitting," Carly asked.
"Staying with and driving," Teddy corrected.
A resident ran into the room, "de Altman we need you in the nicu."
"I'm off today," Teddy said, "Kepner page the on call cardio."
"The baby isn't responding," April panicked, "on call is 45 out and your here. I saw you come in."
"Teddy go," Owen urged.
"I have to go," Teddy said putting Cienna in carlys arms.
"Teddy," Cary asked.
"Paitent," Teddy said.
"You did this with dad," Carly whined.
"You will be fine and I'll come back as soon as the patient is stable. Dad I was working extra shifts, running the emergency room and doing extra on call time to get his bills down," Teddy snapped, "every extra shift I worked gave us another day with him. Every Time I lived at the hospital for a week got him another treatment, another chance. Now I'm going to go give this baby a chance."
"Kepner tell me everything," Teddy commanded as she followed April out of the room.
"Did you know," Josh asked Owen.
"No," Owen said, "I remember her relief when she didn't have to deal with the hospital over his bills anymore. I didn't know she worked extra time and ran the emergency room as an attending for extra money. That's a resident thing."
"The prisoner that came for her," Josh asked.
"Resident," Owen corrected, "doctor specializing in surgery. Teddy has talked about Kepner."
"They can do that," Josh asked.
"Teddy is their head of cardiothoracic surgery so yes," Owen said.
"So your baby will be born here," Carly asked.
"No," Owen said, "the OB we're seeing has privileges at Seattle Grace where I work. Teddy's contract ends June 30 here and she's due July 18."
"They can just pull her in like that," Carly said, "she was with family."
"They had no choice," Owen said, "I know you don't understand what she does. Teddy is a phenomenal surgeon. She's the best I've seen at what she does. She can take hearts that have been shredded and put them back together, lungs that have been burned and scarred and give the person another shot. She's amazing."
"Why haven't you married her," josh asked.
"Proposing in a war zone wouldn't work," Owen said, "then we were apart for 4 months."
"Why didn't you come home with her," josh asked.
"She had to be medically discharged," Owen said, "there was no incentive for them to end my tour two months early then it got extended twice due to lack of suregons."
"Owen," a woman said walking in.
"I was just leaving," Owen stuttered.
"You know Carly how," the woman asked.
"He's my brother in law," Carly said, "wait Beth you know Owen?"
"We were engaged," Beth said, she turned to Owen, "you don't even look like you. Her brother in law?"
"Carly is Teddy's sister," Owen said.
"The blonde army surgeon, Megan's friend," Beth asked, "where is she then?"
"She works here and got pulled to help a patient. I was going to go find her and see if I can help," Owen said.
"Are you with her," Beth asked.
"Yes," Owen said.
"How with her," Beth pressed.
"We're having a baby in July," Owen said, "I do need to go find her."
"Thanks for coming by," Josh said.
"We'll see you both soon," Carly said.
Owen saw a resident and asked them to find Teddy for him.
"How do you know Dr Altman," the young resident asked.
"We're together," Owen said.
"You're her baby's dad," the girl said.
"I am," Owen said, "can you find her dr…"
"Adamson," Reid said.
"I'm Dr Hunt." Owen replied, "can you find out where Dr Altman is?"
"Owen," Teddy called, "I need you."
Owen jogged to where Teddy was calling him from.
"What do you need," Owen asked.
"I need to put a guide wire in," Teddy said, "I have to be completely steady. Our daughter is kicking really hard."
"You want me to soothe the baby," Owen asked.
"I need you to help me stay steady," Teddy replied.
"Okay," Owen said, looking skeptical.
"30 week baby she's tiny," Teddy said, "we need her to get through the weekend, gain an ounce or two and I can take her into the OR Monday."
"Where do you want me," Owen asked.
"Behind me," Teddy said," arms around my waist and hands on our daughter. Try not to restrict my right arm."
Owen got into position like she told him.
April and Reid looked on watching as their head of cardio was assisted by her boyfriend? In a very unorthodox way.
Teddy finished putting the wire and catheter in leaning back against Owen when she was done.
"Kepner," Teddy directed, "don't leave the baby alone for a second. I don't care if you have to pee, she's not to be left alone. Anything changes, call me immediately."
"Yes, Dr Altman," April replied.
"We're going to go," Teddy said, ripping off her surgical gown.
"See you Monday," April said.
They walked out of the hospital hand in hand Owen telling Teddy what had happened after she had been paged.
"Home, dinner and a movie," Teddy suggested.
"I was thinking I would give you a massage after that," Owen said.
"Six weeks left on my contract," Teddy said.
"That will put you at 38 weeks," Owen said, "relax at home until she comes."
"I promised Amanda I would spend time with her when I'm off," Teddy said.
"Is she doing okay," Owen asked, "her contemporary concerned me."
"It's about her mom," Teddy said.
"I wish she would accept mom," Owen replied.
"She's coming around," Teddy said, "it'll take her some time."
"So home dinner and," Owen asked.
"Your massage idea sounds good," Teddy replied.
They drove home stopping to pick up dinner on their way. Owen walking behind Teddy noticed that she had started to waddle a little bit, not as much as most patients he had seen but in the last couple days as their baby grew she was. He thought it was cute.
"Stop staring at my ass," she teased.
"You know how gorgeous you are right," he asked.
"Please I'm round and I'm walking like a penguin," she said, "and my hips hurt."
"I can fix that," Owen said.
"Dinner first," Teddy replied.
"I know you get grumpy if you don't eat," Owen agreed.
They quickly had their dinner and Teddy tried to get comfortable on the couch.
"Let's try this," Owen said, leading her to their bedroom.
"Try what," Teddy asked.
"You wanted a massage," he said.
"I do," she agreed , "but now I want something else more."
"You could have both," he smirked.
"Could I," she asked, teasing.
"You could," he said, pulling her in for a passionate kiss.
She returned the kiss, her tongue exploring the roof of his mouth.
He returned her kiss and slowly slid his hands down her back and under her shirt. He rubbed her lower back softly making her moan into his mouth.
"Good," he asked.
"Keep going," she answered leaning into him.
He kept up gentle pressure in her lower back as her hands found the buttons on his shirt. She slowly opened each button then pushed his shirt off his shoulders. Owen grabbed the sides of her top and guided it over her head. He switched from kissing her lips to her neck and collar bone. She pushed him towards the bed until he sat on it. She sat on his lap straddling his legs and kissing him.
