Chapter II - Growing Pains

Beacon Academy Dorms, Kingdom of Vale

(Song: Stardust Crusaders - The Off Unexpected Prophecy)

Team JASN, a group of somewhat interesting individuals. Lead by a young man with an interesting hairstyle who will have to admit, has no idea what he's doing. Josuke Higashikita was only 17 years old and now he was tasked with learning how to keep himself and three other people alive as he learns.

So having woken up early and dressed in the assigned uniforms. Also having his pompadour ready, obviously the most important aspect of getting dressed. At least that's what he keeps telling himself. Josuke addressed a wild card, an anti social teen and a confused faunus.

"So, team meeting." Josuke said awkwardly. He then cleared his throat and did a heroic pose, "So then, we're a team. A group of guys who work together to survive." he continued to say.

Everyone just gave him an impassive stare, "And?" Squall being the first to speak up, had asked.

"And, I promise that when this is all over. We will all still be alive and not at each other's throats." Josuke answered with a smile.

"I like that plan." Adam said.

Mainly due to not wanting to be a part of a riot or kicked out of the academy for that matter.

"So to do that we…" Josuke trailed off as he literally had no idea what to say or do. When he had run out of ideas, a lightbulb appeared over his head, "We will kindly listen to suggestions from each one of us and decided. What to do next." he said.

"You mean a democracy when you're already a leader?" Squall asked.

Josuke sweat dropped, "Yes but I just want everyone to know that they're free to speak up if they want." he answered.

Naruto raised his hand, "So should we focus on teamwork before or after we're late for class?" he asked as he could sense the wave of tension leaking from Josuke.

"That? Well obviously… crap! Let's go!" Josuke says as he notices that it's a quarter until nine.

Naruto kicked open the door, "Grab on boys! I'll get us there fast!" he says as Adam puts a hand on his shoulder.

Josuke grinned, "Sweet! I almost forgot he can borrow someone else's semblance." he said.

"I can try dragging all of us towards class or I can do this teleport thing I'm still figuring out." Naruto said.

"So either fly at ultra speeds or hopefully teleport." Squall said still sounding doubtful as ever.

"Yup, just put your hand on my shoulder." Naruto said as the other two did as instructed. "This technique is called Shunshin but it roughly translates to, Body Flicker." he says before disappearing with his teammates in a swirl of leaves.

When suddenly Ruby ran into the room, "Big brother, I need to borrow…" she started to say frantically before noticing the leaves. "Aw man, we're going to be late." she said sadly.

She really wanted Naruto to take her team to class using Shunshin. Even if it was experimental and potentially dangerous.

At Professor Port's class

Just as the doors were open and students were about to enter Port's class. Team JASN suddenly appeared in midair and crashed onto the ground where the entry to the class is. Only to slowly stand up from feeling the painful crash.

"Hey it worked." Josuke said despite wincing in pain.

"It felt like he shot us out of a cannon." Squall said.

"Well Professor Caffeine Addiction threw us over a cliff. So at least I guaranteed that we would live." Naruto argued.

"You never said that last part." Squall said with a glare.

Naruto's eyes widened at the realization, "Oh yeah… don't guys we won't die if I use shunshin!" he said as if it mattered despite how late he said it.

"Let's just get this is over with." Adam said already inside.

Naruto made a mental note to actually speak up when it came to warning that might involve putting people in danger. Then again, Josuke could heal people so that was a plus side to his leader. So unless he and Josuke suddenly loathe each other out of nowhere, he might be able to use his semblance as well since the pompadour wearing teen can't use his semblance on himself.

After finishing his thoughts on potentially injuring his new allies, Naruto took his seat. Only to find some fists hitting his back about a couple minutes later.

"Ow! Ow! Ow! Ruby!?" Naruto asked.

"You left! I was going to ask you to teleport us and you left!" Ruby yelled as she kept hitting her fists against his back.

Naruto sighed as he stood up to calm the girl down, "Ruby are you angry I left without out you or did you forget to eat breakfast again?" he asked.

Ruby blushed but turned away, "I drank my milk." she responded.

"Well at least you did that." Naruto said he lead her to her seat.

Completely ignoring the aura of hostility around Weiss. Though it felt more like envy and frustration rather than anger or embarrassment of having Ruby, an immature brat, being her team leader.

'Someone has issues.' Naruto thought.

One boring story later

Though there was some merit in the story explaining past experiences. Peter Port spent most of his talk explaining his past life rather than teaching. When that long winded story ended, he attempted something unique compared to most classes that rely on lectures.

Professor Port, tried the practical approach.

"As you can see students, this is a Boarbatusk. Now all Grimm are threats in this world. So don't believe one is weaker than most because of it's size and capabilities. However, this one is easier to contain in a controlled space." Port explained as he points at a caged Boarbatusk. "May I have a volunteer who embodies the traits of a huntsmen?" he asked.

Weiss, who was trying not to glare at Ruby who was acting like a goofball, raised her hand.

"Oh good, time to face your fear Miss Schnee." Port said as Weiss changed into her regular clothes.

Josuke then looked over to his teammates, "What's the point of these stuffy uniforms if we need to keep changing back?" he asked.

All three of them shrugged as Josuke sighed. He really didn't like the outfits. They were too much like stuffy suits and the capes made him feel like he was in some fantasy novel.

Back to Weiss, the Schnee Heiress was currently taking an offensive stance. As she pointed her sword at the cage holding her Grimm opponent. Port slammed down his axe rifle hybrid weapon to break the lock on the cage. Only for the Boarbatusk to surprise Weiss as it ran past her.

"You got this Weiss!" Ruby yells out.

"Shut up Ruby!" Weiss yells as the Boarbatusk runs past her.

"Weiss, the Boarbatusk doesn't have any armor under it's belly! Also, with how tough and fast it is, it's still super clumsy!" Ruby yells.

"I know what I'm doing!" Weiss asks as she takes the hit.

While many could blame Ruby for yelling out things during a fight. Especially as it would seem that she's being controlling. Weiss herself is also to blame, as her discipline and serious demeanor makes her exceptional at as a team member. However Weiss is too stubborn to realize the conflict caused by this.

She's a perfectionist and immediately locks up. Making hesitance a constant barrier that Weiss faces. Her mind being narrow and focusing on maintaining a certain position and expecting the enemy to take another position for her to achieve victory. Rather than relaxing and focusing on the timing and position of herself and her foe to determine speed and style best suited for her.

Weiss only surviving by managing to let the clumsy Grimm spin at her and crashing into the wall. With it landing belly side up, Weiss stabbed her sword into it's gut and finally killing it.

"Splendid work Miss Schnee, though you could do without the hesitance." Port pointed out.

Weiss glared at her leader, "I could do with a better leader." she said making Ruby look sad.

After class

As class ended and everyone had their brief few minutes of intermission between classes. It appeared that Ruby approached Ozpin while Weiss approached Port. Both being given a small lecture as to what makes a leader and why Ruby deserves the title while Weiss lacks it.

To be fair, one of Port's biggest points was Weiss being fairly easy to anger and losing focus. Her response was raising her voice at Port showing off her anger, something he already expected and pointed out. Meanwhile Ozpin explained the scary world of Remnant along with his own experiences of betrayal and other hardships. Basically using this as a chance to explain to Ruby that there will be many people against her, but she needs to overcome this or learn how to make these people cooperate with her.

Leaving Ruby wondering how to earn Weiss's respect or at least some common ground with her.

Though everyone else had their own opinions on what happened, "Looks like the ice queen isn't perfect." Josuke commented.

"Well the kid should have just stayed quiet." Squall said earning a glare from Naruto.

"I get Weiss didn't want help, but she that doesn't mean she shouldn't shut others out." Naruto replied.

"Then that Weiss girl should have accepted the fail and learned." Squall said not caring about someone else's pride.

"But hey, at least we get along right?" Josuke asked.

To be fair, while Team RWBY has a stubborn perfectionist. Team JASN has someone who's very anti social.

"Whatever." Squall said.

"How about we focus on class. Without teleporting I hope." Adam suggested.

Naruto sighed, 'What's wrong with Shunsin?' he asked as if the technique wasn't full of concern.

Later, sparring arena

This class or session or whatever you wanted to call it looked interesting enough. Glynda Goodwitch herself would be overseeing the students testing their combat abilities. In hopes of seeing where everyone's strengths and weaknesses lie. So after a few rounds of various students fighting. Glynda moved onto Cardin Winchester, who looked smug as usual.

"Please select your opponent Mr. Winchester." Glynda said.

Although Cardin did look annoyed for a brief moment. He really wanted to pick Jaune Arc on the account he started picking on him and enjoyed it. The reason he couldn't choose said boy was because everyone could only have one fight. Jaune already picked someone in the crowd earlier and lost… badly to say the least.

However he turned his eyes to Naruto who looked really bored. Making Cardin believe that he was a slacker and someone who likely doesn't take things too seriously. An easy win in his opinion. Mainly due to not having seen his extraordinary abilities and cooperation within his team under Josuke's management.

"Him." Cardin said pointing to Naruto who looked a caught off guard.

"Me? I guess it had to happen at some point." Naruto said as he stood up and wobbled towards the arena.

"You got this big brother!" Ruby yells.

"No showboating!" Adam yells.

"You got this man!" Josuke says as he claps his hands.

Squall just remained silent and paid close attention. Either because he didn't care enough to cheer for his teammate or get a better glimpse of who he's working with. Once Naruto arrived and stood before Cardin, Glynda raised her crop in the air.

"The fight between Cardin Winchester and Naruto Belmont may begin." Glynda announces.

Cardin smirked as he raised his weapon, the Executioner, "This is the part where you lose." he said.

(Tekken 7 OST - Mishima Dojo)

Naruto popped his neck and stretched his arms, "The part in real life or in your head?" he asked.

"Real life!" Cardin answers as he swings his mace.

Naruto backs away a few times. Avoiding the club with ease but being cautious of the force being applied. After a few more swings, he made a single hand seal.

"Earth Style: Trip." he muttered.

As Cardin ran up to Naruto's face. He tripped over a piece of the earth being raised from the ground. The surprise and fall caused Cardin to drop his mace. Leaving him disarmed as Naruto kicked it far away.

"Come on, I thought I was supposed to lose." Naruto said mocking him.

Cardin growled as he stood up and rushed at Naruto with his fists. Though his style of hand to hand combat was much worse than his style with his mace. Leaving Naruto with ample time to find the opening in each strike as Cardin relied on force and not speed.

"I guess this is the part where I win." Naruto said with his own smirk.

"Wha?" Cardin quickly found a strong punch landing on his cheek.

Cardin briefly felt disoriented but recovered quickly and returned to throwing punches. Once again giving Naruto a pattern of openings. Landing several deadly punches on chest, face and ending it with a kick to the chin. The last blow sending Cardin flying a few meters away from him.

Glynda then called for the match, "The Winner is Naruto Belmont!" she announced as Cardin's aura meter went into the red.

Naruto raised his hand into the air to wave at the crowd that clapped for him. Chuckling at the easy win as he made his way back where his teammates patted him on the shoulder and Ruby congratulated him. Though he didn't see it, he could sense Yang's negative emotions aimed directly at him.

'Someone's angry.' Naruto thought before Glynda moved onto the next match.

"Weiss Schnee, please select an opponent." Glynda said as Weiss didn't take more than a minute.

"Ruby Rose." Weiss said with a light glare.

'Someone else is also angry.' Naruto thought as he could sense the hostility leaking off of the Schnee.

Ruby frowned at the anger Weiss was holding back. Either she thought fighting Ruby would be a good stress reliever or it would be a good way of "putting her in her place" as Weiss thinks. No doubt Ruby would have to help Weiss let go of her anger and help her relax.

Putting on a bright smile, Ruby stood up, "Ok Weiss." she said before whispering something into her brother's ear.

Naruto blinked several times in surprise, "Overkill don't you think?" he asked before she whispered again. "How is it not overkill when you use everything you have without hurting anyone?" He asked her.

"Please?" Ruby asked.

"Fine." Naruto said as he gave Ruby something.

As the two left to meet each other in the wrong. Many were surprised two people on the same team would face each other. Then again, they weren't breaking any rules. There would be later classes where fighters would be in a free for all or fighting a handicap match. As this whispers and murmuring went on, Josuke scooted closer to Naruto.

"What did you give her?" Josuke asked curiously.

"My sister wanted to borrow another whip." Naruto answered.

"What's wrong with the one she has?" Josuke asked.

"It's closer to a normal whip with a few modifications. Though the one I gave her is special and belonged to my family. Since I adopted Ruby, I've been letting her use it whenever she wanted." Naruto explained.

There was one thing that caught Josuke off guard, "So she's not your real sister?" he asked earning the attention of Blake and Yang.

Both listened in as Naruto answered, "No, but she is family." was all he said as the match started.

Though some of the future huntsmen had various thoughts. Blake was starting to wonder more about the tension she noticed between Ruby and Yang. Yang didn't completely believe Naruto as she was slowly loathing how close this stranger was with her sister. Josuke just wondered if there's more too it, but decided that maybe that's enough personal information and he should respect his teammate's privacy.

Finally there was Squall, something Naruto said made his face soften. Almost like he showed emotion outside of his angst and blank stares.

Ruby and Weiss fight

Once again, Glynda raised her crop into the air, "The fight between Weiss Schnee and Ruby Rose may begin." she announces as the two start.

(Castlevania OST - Bloody Tears)

Weiss quickly took her stance but started to feel stressed already. As she felt very sloppy from moving her foot and arm at a random angle. It didn't matter that she rushed her perfect stance as Ruby was already in combat mode when she pulled out a cudgel.

Only to watch Ruby spin it in the air as it revealed a long chain, 'Another whip?' Weiss thought.

Though as Ruby swings the weapon around, the chain itself started to glow. Almost as if it could heat up on it's own. Weiss dropped her stance and started running after Ruby slammed the ground where she once stood. Creating a small explosion upon impact.

'The whip can create explosions?' Weiss thought incredulously as Ruby pulled back the chained whip.

Ruby used Weiss' shock as an advantage and ran at her at full speed. When Weiss had come to her senses, she found herself hesitantly raising her sword to block the whip as it returned to cudgel form. Ruby smiled at Weiss' surprised expression.

"I'm going easy on you this way Weiss." Ruby said unintentionally making Weiss think she was mocking her.

"Don't mock me, dolt!" Weiss said angrily.

"I'm not!" Ruby argued as she jumped back.

From there, Weiss adjusted the dust in her blade and fired various blocks of ice at Ruby. Who avoided each attack before extending the whip once more and hit Weiss from a far. The Schnee heiress grunted as the attack slammed into her chest and made her crash into the wall. Briefly looking up to see that she was close to hitting yellow.

At this point, Weiss was sure a change of weapons wasn't enough for Ruby's advantage so far. So she quickly took her stance once more. Channeling her control of her aura and summoned a glyph. Within that glyph, slowly came out a small armored arm with a sword. Just as Weiss smiled at her progress, the glyph fell apart.

Leaving her wide open for Ruby to wrap the chained whip around her arm. Causing Weiss to be pulled in the air and closer towards Ruby who rushed tackled her once she was close enough. During the moment of impact, Weiss caught a glimpse of her meter going deeper into yellow. Weiss sneered as she kicked Ruby away and picked up her sword again.

This time using her close distance to attack Ruby. Only for her attacks to be blocked by the whip's cudgel form. As Weiss applied more speed and pressure into her attacks. Ruby's face turned into one of curious then to worry.

"You're slipping Weiss." Ruby told her.

"Shut up! Don't think you can distract me!" Weiss responded angrily.

"You need to let go of your frustration." Ruby said to her.

"Don't tell me what to do!" Weiss yells as she adds more force before jumping behind Ruby in attempt to strike her back.

Ruby managed to block the attack in time. Though being forced into the defensive as Weiss started to get more intense. However, she did have one advantage despite the more pressure Weiss was putting in. As Ruby continued to block and dodge every slash and kcik. She noticed Weiss was becoming less graceful in her attacks and with all the effort she put in, she started to pant.

"Weiss, your burning your stamina!" Ruby yells only to be kicked in the side of the head.

"I got you!" Weiss said she slashed at Ruby's chest and kicking her into the floor.

Catching another glimpse of the board, Weiss's eyes widened at how little Ruby's aura meter went down. Only encouraging her to use more force to attack Ruby. Thinking she could weaken her with a blitz of sword slashes.

When Weiss was about to land another slash at Ruby's downed form. The Rose caught the fencing blade in between her palms. A mere inch away from her body before using her legs to twist's Weiss's arm and knock her onto her back. This time Ruby looked at the aura meter and saw how dangerously close Weiss was to landing on the red.

But as she said, she was going easy on Weiss. For not to mock the girl, but to see her potential. For Ruby could have just ended the match as Weiss struggled to stand and pick up the sword she dropped.

"I'm not finished yet." Weiss said as she took another stance.

Another glyph appeared under her. Ruby stared in curiosity as more glyphs appeared around her just as Weiss dashed at her. Before she could realize what her opponent was planning. Ruby found herself in a barrage of attacks by Weiss who used each glyph to jump around and enhance her speed. Unfortunately while Ruby did still go on the defensive, a match of speed wasn't a good tactic to use on her. Especially now that Weiss started to look visibly exhausted.

"I'm sorry Weiss, but I win." Ruby said.

"What are you…"

Before Weiss said anything, Ruby disappeared in a blink of an eye. The tables had turned on Weiss as Ruby's semblance gave her speed superior to Weiss. Now finding herself trapped in a barrage of strikes that Weiss had no chance of blocking or avoiding.

'How?' Weiss asked herself before feeling the cudgel land a final blow onto her back.

"You were too eager Weiss. You wanted to fight, but you felt too stressed during the fight and got too tired." Ruby said just as Weiss landed on the ground.

The final blow dealing enough damage to the point where Weiss was in the red.

"Winner, Ruby Rose!" Glynda announced as the crowd cheered.

Ruby put the whip away as she helped Weiss over her shoulder, "I'll help her get to the infirmary." she said.

Infirmary

As the matches continued, Ruby managed to help Weiss into a bed as they waited for the medics. As they waited, Ruby noticed a guilty look on Weiss's face.

"Something wrong?" Ruby asked.

"Why did you help me? After everything I said?" Weiss asked.

Ruby smiled, "Because I want to be your friend Weiss." she replied. "I was excited when you picked me to fight you. Since I thought it would be a good way for us to bond over our strengths." she continued to say making Weiss look surprised.

"Well you beat me." Weiss said now sounding bitter.

Though Ruby still looked happy, "And now you need to learn." she said surprising Weiss again. "Weiss, you shouldn't get mad or disappointed because of one loss. My brother says that if you have something to fight for. Then you will have a reason to win." she explained.

"So you're saying I didn't have a reason to win?" Weiss asked.

"Well, you were all angry and anxious. So I guess maybe you were being selfish. No offense by the way." Ruby said making Weiss reflect on her words.

Weiss sighed knowing she was in the wrong, "Maybe you're right Ruby." she said now realizing that Port was right. She still glared at her, "But don't think you'll always be the strongest! I want to fight you again and things won't turn out the same!" she said proudly.

Ruby giggled, "I want a rematch too Weiss, but on equal terms." she said having just achieved her first friendship.

Later, Cafeteria

After the matches were over, it was time to rest and enjoy some food. Along with everyone getting a chance to get together and know each other better.

"So, I see everyone survived about half day. I guess that means I'm not the worst leader." Josuke said happily.

Then Squall ruined it, "I'm not praising anyone, but Team CRDL's loser literally started losing after tripping on a rock." he said remembering Naruto subtly using an Earth style technique.

Naruto shrugged, "If there's no outside help. It's not breaking the rules." he said.

"At least Squall is admitting that he pays attention. I think someone is warming up." Josuke said with a grin.

"Whatever." Squall said as he looks away from his teammates.

"All that matters is that we're willing to cooperate." Adam said.

At least it looked like Squall was somewhat willing to agree to that statement. Before they could continue to talk about the concept of understanding each other and working as a team. When Cardin decided to be a jerk by pulling on the ears of a faunus. This was Velvet Scarlatina, an upperclassmen who's teammates just happened to not be here.

Squall looked away at the stupidity in annoyance while Adam just glared. Josuke also looked a bit peeved by the sight.

"I think that asshole needs another lesson." Josuke muttered as discrimination annoyed him.

"Hold on Josuke, if me kicking his ass didn't teach humility. Someone doing the same won't help." Naruto said as no one noticed him summon a clone.

As the clone discreetly escaped the cafeteria on Naruto's orders. Blake from Team RWBY glared holes at Cardin who's abuse of Velvet had yet to seize.

"I hate that." Blake said with disgust.

"I know, even at an academy delinquents are free to reign as they wish." Weiss said feeling disgusted as well.

"That too, but I meant abuse against faunus. This always happens and no one ever does anything. Just look." Blake said as everyone either just stared at Velvet's abuse or looked away as if nothing was going on.

Ruby looked sad as she saw this, "I know, it's messed up." she said in agreement.

Another couple of minutes passed on Cardin pulling on Velvet's ear with no one doing anything. The rabbit girl started to whimper in pain, but at the same time Blake was right about no one doing anything. Yet she was also a hypocrite as well as she had this big talk but didn't do anything herself. Like everyone else, she sat there as another spectator of this unjust abuse.

"What is going on here!?" everyone snapped their heads to see Glynda had arrived at the cafeteria.

With a look of pure disappointment on her face. Along with a Naruto who was standing next to her. Ruby briefly looked back at Team JASN's table in confusion before remembering something.

'That's my big brother.' Ruby thought proudly.

Glynda then approached Cardin who already looked sheepish as he had let go of Velvet. This would not end well for Cardin as this was already a bad first day so far.

"Mister Winchester, I think you should learn some early humility with Professor Ozpin and I." Glynda said as Cardin hanged his head before walking with Glynda to Ozpin's office.

Velvet slowly approached Naruto's clone, "T-Thank you." she said.

"It's cool, I could have kicked his ass again but I don't think he would have learned with a second beating." The clone replied before turning into smoke.

Velvet looked around in confusion before noticing the real Naruto wave his hand. Velvet smiled as she picked up her food and went to her own table.

"You went with the simple approach." Adam said.

"Like I said, a second beating wouldn't have helped." Naruto replied.

"At least you did something. Unlike us and everyone else." Josuke said with a sheepish smile.

"I raised my little sister on my own. So it's not like I wanted to sit and do nothing." Naruto said as he finished up his lunch.

Weiss then looked at Blake, "So why didn't you do anything Blake?" she asked.

Blake remained silent for some reason. Most likely because she did have vigor in her words, but her actions were nonexistent. For someone who is passionate about a certain topic, Blake didn't exactly due anything to stop the injustice she had claimed was happening. While quite observant at such things happening, Blake never noticed the stare that Squall was giving her.

Adam noticed the stare, "Something wrong?" he asked.

Squall closed his eyes and shook her head, "Nothing." he answered.

End of day

Naruto stretched out his arms as his team left the last class, "You know Adam, I don't want to sound mean. But Cardin did have a point about training animals." he said.

"What the hell is the matter with you?" Squall asked.

"It's fine, I know what he means." Adam said interrupting Squall. "Animals are easier to train. Because Cardin is stupid to follow directions." he said with a smile.

Josuke and Naruto laughed at the response, "I knew I my ways were getting onto you!" Naruto says as he puts an arm around Adam's shoulder. "Anyways, jokes aside. Does anyone want a ride anywhere?" he asked.

Everyone shook their heads, "I'm good and I guess the other guys are too." Josuke said before they bid their farewells.

All three of them promising to meet back at their shared dorm room. Leaving Naruto alone and wondering what to do next. Only to quickly find Ruby jumping on his back.

"Big brother let's go! School is finally out!" Ruby said excitedly.

Naruto chuckled at her positive energy, "You just started school for the first time Ruby. How are you this happy?" he asked.

"Classes are boring and Weiss is still being uptight." Ruby whined.

"Fine, let's go Ruby." Naruto said before using a shunshin.

Leaving quickly just as Yang was running at them. Her hopes of trying to reconnect with Ruby again had failed. Leaving the blond girl to grit her teeth as an aura similar to flames surrounded her body. While it sounds like a comedic anger, this was the sign of Yang tapping into her semblance.

With the pseudo siblings

Ruby looked around in confusion as Naruto took her to an office, "I think you went the wrong way again." she said.

Naruto sighed, "Give me a break." he said before noticing where he was. "Is this Professor Ozpin's office?" he asked.

Ruby's eyes widened, "We need to leave!" she said in fear of getting in trouble again.

The two then proceeded to run out the door. Only to be in the biggest shock of their lives. Something so unexpected, so big, so unique and something Ruby will never forget along with the many other things she saw in her life when Naruto adopted her.

"Oh my Oum/Kishimoto." the siblings said.

Ozpin turned his head and turned pale at the realization that someone was staring at him. Committing his guilty pleasure to an extreme level. One that would likely put him into questioning if he's worthy of being headmaster of Beacon Academy any longer. Experience and wisdom be damn once the council and other headmasters see this.

"It's not what it looks like." Ozpin quickly said though very nervously.

Ruby took a quick photo with her scroll, "Run big brother!" she yelled as Naruto grabbed her and escaped in a shunshin.

Ozpin sighed, "Damn it Leon, I never taught you magic. Yet it mutated into something else. Something that will hurt me in the future." he said.

For what Ruby and Naruto had witnessed. Was Ozpin drinking straight out of glass from used for the coffee machine. Ozpin refused for anyone to say anything about his addiction, no, his passion! Coffee is his passion! Coffee is love!

A few days later

Ozpin had yet to steal that scroll and delete the photos. For he lacked the legal path to take away the scroll and destroy the evidence. Fortunately enough, neither teen had uploaded the photo to the internet and no one appeared to laugh or make any remarks of him. So it was safe to say Ruby hasn't revealed the embarrassing photo of Ozpin's addiction to caffeine. At least he hoped so.

However today was not about Ozpin and his attempts to hide his mental issues revolving around caffeine. Today, Naruto was sitting by his lonesome after finishing up a training session with his team. Mainly working on taijutsu, as Josuke was surprisingly the only other person with a brawler type of fighting style. Leaving him with better learning as to how fight armed enemies,

Adam sure needed the help and Squall didn't want to admit it, but he also lacked some capabilities without his gunblade. So with help in unarmed combat as well as trying armed combat. The team looked like they were preparing for even the most unconventional fights. Likely from Naruto's experience of not having a weapon in the beginning of his life and having to teach Ruby to defend herself. Then again, he was lucky things didn't go so bad when Ruby was surrounded by Grimm after Yang abandoned her.

"I hope Ruby is making some strong bonds." Naruto said as he pulled out a bag of food. Except he put it away once he felt his instincts scream into his head, "What the hell?" he asked as he jumped away.

When suddenly, the bench he was sitting on no more than a second ago exploded. Not like some kind of action movie explosion. Rather, exploded from the impact of an angry red eyed girl covered in flames having destroyed it.

"What did the bench do to you?" Naruto asked Yang who just leaked furious.

"What the hell did you do to my sister!?" Yang practically screamed.

"You mean besides raise her when she had no one else?" Naruto asked with his arms crossed.

Yang growled as she tried to punch his head off. Naruto avoided the attack and quickly found himself having to avoid more wild and animalistic attacks. Despite how wild Yang was being, she was more focused and disciplined compared to Cardin. A lot stronger too considering the idiot likely can't break trees or shatter benches.

"You're taking advantage of her! My sister wouldn't be that cold!" Yang yelled.

Her reference was to Ruby having purposely tried to ignore her since they became a team. Only interacting with Yang when asking general questions or working together during training sessions and class. So it was almost like Ruby treated like Yang was covered in a disease.

"Well a real sister wouldn't abandon her!" Naruto yelled back.

Yang gritted her teeth, "I made a mistake!" she yelled as her flames became hotter.

"You did and its something you can't undo!" Naruto yelled back as he avoided each attack.

"Stop moving you bastard!" Yang demanded.

Naruto ignored her demand and continued to run back to a more open area that wasn't filled with people. Soon enough, he realized he was close to a fountain.

"Water Style: Gunshot!" he calls out as he shoots a ball of water at Yang who crashes into the ground.

Though this only further infuriates her as she continues to run at Naruto. Making him lucky that she didn't have Amber Celica by her side. Otherwise she would have had a better chance to fight from a distance.

"Give me back my sister!" Yang demanded.

"Ruby isn't some item you can trade!" Naruto yelled angrily.

"I'm not letting you have her!" Yang yells as she starts to sound like she's losing any form of rationality.

Naruto parried Yang's hits as blocking didn't seem like a good idea. Though this proved to be as risky as Yang was less predictable than he imagined. Leading to him eventually taking a punch to the head that made him crash into the fountain. Luckily not breaking it or any part of his body. Except for when Yang jumped in and crashed into the fountain.

Naruto rolls away Yang nearly punches him in the head again. Using this time and momentum to kick her in the chin, sending her out of the broken fountain. Where he proceeded to create several clones to surround Yang. However the appearance of his doppelgängers only seemed to infuriate the girl as she quickly ripped them apart despite taking some hits. The only advantage here was Naruto was able to briefly blind the girl with the smoke that appeared after each clone was destroyed.

Giving Naruto and one more clone a chance to land a punch to Yang's chin. The momentum was enough to send her about less than a meter into the air. Allowing the two Naruto's to kick Yang around in the air before landing a hard kick that sent her crashing back into the ground.

Naruto let out a sigh as he landed and dispelled the clone, "Had enough?" he asked.

Yang only jumped back up, "The more you hit me the angrier I get and the more pissed I am, the harder I'm going to hit you!" she growled.

Naruto sweat dropped, 'Ok, I doubt crazy girl is invincible or gets super powers. But maybe hitting her adds to her fighting spirit.' he thought as he avoided another series of hits. Then proceeding to move behind Yang and pulling her into a headlock, "What is your problem with me?" he asked.

"My problem is you stole my sister!" Yang answered angrily as she reverse head butted his face.

Naruto let out a loud groan before finding himself being grabbed by the shirt. Where Yang proceeded to dish out the blows to the face before tossing him away.

'Reminder, never try to talk things out with crazy people. Talk no jutsu, is not a real jutsu and it won't work in a realistic setting.' Naruto thought before Yang landed another punch.

Except this time, Naruto was replaced by a log, "What the hell!? Where are you!?" Yang demanded.

"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" Naruto shouts from behind causing Yang to fly into several trees.

Yang stood back up only to clutch her shoulder, "I'm not losing to some bastard who steals family." she growled out.

Naruto balled his fists hearing that, "I'm not the one who left her to the mercy of the Grimm!" he yelled as his eyes turned red and black again.

The two blonds proceeded to run at each other with the intent actually deal everlasting pain. With Yang letting out her inner animal as her aura started to burn out quickly. Naruto on the other hand, had two energy sources with his only concern being able to control both. Yet at the same time, there is no control at all if he lets his emotions run rampant.

With that, Yang punched the ground where he once stood. Then finding a foot to her face as she was kicked in the head and then in the stomach. Yang sneered as grabbed Naruto's foot and tossed him against a tree. Where she hoped to continue her attack before Naruto used all his strength to pull her down by the leg.

"Give me back sister!" Yang yelled.

Naruto ignored her demand as he strattled Yang and started hitting her while she was down. Slowly noticing that a part of her face started to bruise up. Meaning that Yang likely does receive power from hits, but isn't immune or resistant to the damage she takes. However this backfired quickly as Yang flipped him back and started to hit him back harder.

Eventually Naruto had enough when he thought he heard something crack.

"Wind Style: Air Bullet!" he yells out as a giant ball of air sent Yang flying away and into a bush.

"I won't ask again… give me back my sister!" Yang screamed as she was far from done despite clear signs of exhaustion.

"Ruby isn't an object!" Naruto shouted as he slammed his hands onto the ground. "Earth Style: Hiding Like A Mole!" he yells as he suddenly drills into the ground.

Before Yang knew it, Naruto's hand appeared and dragged her into the ground. Burying her deep up until nothing but her head was above the ground. Naruto eventually crawled out of another hole while gasping for air.

"Are you done?" Naruto asked as his eyes turned back to their normal blue color.

Yang continued to growl as she tried to dig herself out. With no luck as she was too exhausted and likely all out of aura. As her semblance finally deactivated and left her panting for air.

"Just… give… me…" Yang's head fell forward against the ground.

Naruto coughed as he stood up. As he tried to recover using his own aura. He sensed more negativity from Yang. Only instead of anger, he felt… depression? Naruto looked at Yang again and noticed tears hitting the ground.

"Please… give me my sister back." Yang pleaded as she revealed that her eyes had turned blue.

A few minutes later

Naruto dug Yang out and placed her on a bench that was intact. Before cleaning himself and Yang up. Though he decided to use the excuse that he tried to hold back Josuke when someone mocked his hairstyle again. Seeing as the guy enters a berserker state when someone disrespects his giant pompadour.

Settling with that being his alibi. Naruto grabbed some ice for Yang's bruises.

"So why did you do it?" Naruto asked as he finally got to the point.

Seeing that she had no room to fight again let alone win. Yang took a deep breath and told the truth. Yang admitted to her stupidity by letting Raven coax her into joining her tribe. A tribe of murders and thieves and possibly other disgusting things Yang likely didn't notice. At first, Naruto didn't really want to sympathize with Yang when she explained Raven's terrible conditions that she forced Yang to live under. Since at first, it does sound like she just wanted a more comfy life.

Yet as Naruto sensed her sorrow and regret. It did take time for the Belmont to realize what did happen. Deep down he hated what Yang did but can slowly see that as a naive child, no one would want to live in the conditions of living in some tent and being fed by whatever she took for herself.

"And the only good part was my uncle Qrow finally arriving." Yang said.

Flashback

2 years after Raven took Yang

*SLAP*

Yang crashed into the ground as Raven hit her. Yang sniffled as tears were threatening to fall down her face. You would expect a mother to have a good reason to hit her child or at least look hurt as well when it came to resorting to physical violence. Instead, Raven just looked at Yang with great disappointment. That stare would forever be stuck in Yang's mind. That the woman she was looking for, the woman who birthed her, a close friend of Summer Rose and ex-wife of Taiyang Xiao Long was not a real mother.

Raven treated Yang as if she were the embodiment of shame and saw her as a disgrace.

"When will you learn Yang? You can't expect things to be fetched for you." Raven said as every word hit Yang like a large stone. "10 years old and you still hesitate. Do you want to starve to death?" she asked sounding more annoyed by the minute.

Yang sniffled as she cradled her cheek, "It's wrong mom. I don't want to hurt people." she said.

Raven snarled, "You aren't going to learn by being nice Yang. I'm not going to save you if you can't help yourself." she said only further scaring Yang.

"I wanna go home." Yang muttered.

"What was that?" Raven asked with an eye twitch.

"I wanna go home! I wanna go home with Ruby!" Yang yelled as tears fell down her eyes.

Raven's fists tightened, "Ruby is gone Yang. Face it, there is no way for a child as pathetic as her to survive on her. If anything, the Grimm probably found her before she made it out of the forest." she said.

"Your wrong! Ruby is alive and she's waiting for me!" Yang yelled only further infuriating her incubator.

Raven was done, she was filled with regret and that regret was having to raise a child. Before she said anything else. The Madara Uchiha cosplayer looked at the sky to see a bird flying over her camp and going behind a tree. Where her brother, who she assumed was dead, arrived. And he did not look happy.

"Look who came back from the dead." Raven said sounding sarcastic.

Qrow only needed to gaze at Yang for a second to know that his older sister once again ruined someone's life. Yang wasn't living like a normal child should. Her clothes were dirty and torn and no doubt not the same ones Taiyang left her before he disappeared on his mission with Summer. Even worse, the girl had bandages on one leg and on her arms. Malnourishment is also another detail to easily notice, Raven likely wanted to beat the mindset of stealing into Yang but the girl was too honest like her father.

"I'm taking Yang away from here!" Qrow said angrily.

Raven rolled her eyes, "Fine, take her. She's been a waste of time." she said as Raven ran up to Qrow and cried onto him. "I made a mistake by not taking the other girl." she said only further hurting Yang's self esteem.

Qrow snapped back at her, "The only mistake here is Tai picking you over Summer first." he said as he took Yang by the hand. Only looking back once to see the fire in Raven's eyes, "Another mistake was Summer ever calling you her friend." he added before punching her cabin.

Raven scoffed as she walked towards her cabin. The ruthless woman didn't show it, but if Qrow's words were like punches. Raven would have been on the ground missing some teeth. Though a part of her was happy that she didn't have to worry about raising Yang any longer.

The downside of this all was her cabin suddenly fell apart. Many would say this is bad irony. When Raven knew this was just a bad case of misfortune.

"Vernal, are you ok?" Raven asked as she knew the young girl was moving things into her cabin.

"Yeah but I think I broke…"

"Good, now get up and help me fix my cabin." Raven said not sounding one bit concerned for Vernal's injury.

End of flashback

Yang wiped her tears away, "I know you think I'm selfish. That just because I had a bad life, I thought Ruby would want me back and that being with her made it less painful." She said.

Naruto did not confirm or deny this. He opted to stay silent. Letting Yang to continue her story.

"So after that, Qrow brought me back to Patch. Where we thought we would find Ruby." Yang said. Gripping her shorts as she continued, "I horrified, scared out of my mind that Ruby was a charred corpse. I… didn't want to… didn't want to bury my little sister… all we found… were the bits and pieces of her little cape…" she said as she wanted to sob.

Naruto closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he let all that sink in. So far, his senses couldn't sense any form of a lie or any negative emotion outside of sadness. A few minutes of letting her vent out and Naruto decided to speak again.

"Ruby burned that house." Naruto said.

"W-What?" Yang asked as she wiped her tears.

"Ruby waited several days for you and this Qrow person. She gave up and packed her things. After that… she said that she knew what that old building you found in the woods was." Naruto answered.

"What was it?" Yang asked.

"Ruby thinks it was the house that your dad lived in when he was married to Raven. So he burned it down because he wanted to abandon all the suffering he went through. So he built the new house for aunt Summer and you before Ruby was born." Naruto explained.

Yang's eyes widened at the explanation. She did ask Qrow about the old house but he kept changing the subject. So Yang gave up on pestering the man any longer about it.

"Ruby burned it because she knew her parents were gone. She assumed her uncle was gone too. Her sister left her alone. The house was pretty much a hollow shack to Ruby so even when I tried talking her out of it. Ruby said there was nothing left for her." Naruto explained as he sighed again. "At the very least, I told her to let me do it. Not just because it was the home her parents built for her, but because I wasn't letting a smaller kid accidentally burn herself." he said finishing his story.

Yang couldn't believe what she heard. Her emotions ran wild and for a moment she just wanted to punch Naruto in the face and claim she was lying. Only to realize it was just her denial trying to talk her into doing irrational things again. Leaving her to slump back in her seat.

After another moment of silence, Yang spoke again, "Do you think by chance, you can help me talk to Ruby?" she asked nervously.

Naruto sighed yet again, "I can't." he said.

"W-Why not?" Yang asked.

"I meant I can't right now. I think Ruby still needs more time to adjusting with you being here. Ruby is still hurting from what you did and she can't detect lies like me." Naruto explained.

"But can't you reason with her?" Yang asked.

"Ruby is too stubborn. If I told her to speak to you, let alone forgive you now. She would think you did something to mess with my head and get angrier." Naruto answered as it wasn't something he wanted Ruby to do.

Truly, Naruto was still disappointed with Yang too but he didn't want Ruby to give into hate or even ignore Yang as if she was a threat on her life. It wasn't healthy and with everything they had been through together. The last thing he wanted to see was his little sister become hateful and think everyone betrayed her.

"For now, all you can do is wait. Hopefully you can get her to speak to you first before rushing into things." Naruto said as he didn't want Ruby to outright forgive Yang.

Naruto wanted to see if the two can at least communicate and see what Yang is willing to do for forgiveness. At least Yang understood that too.

"Okay, but… would it be cool if we met again later? I mean, just to talk things out. I don't want to let my feelings make me do anything stupid." Yang asked.

"It's cool, just give me your scroll number." Naruto said as Yang blushed.

"What?" Yang asked.

"Your scroll number, what do you want me to do? Use carrier pigeons? If you want a poor communication system, you can go to R-Mobile." Naruto said as Yang stifled a laugh. "What now?" Naruto asked sounding curious.

"Sorry, dad always told bad jokes. Uncle Qrow said I inherited it from him." Yang answered before giving him her number.

Just as the two exchanged information. One more thing came to Yang's mind.

"By the way, you called Summer your aunt, but your last name isn't Rose. So what's your relationship to Ruby?" Yang asked.

"Summer is my mom's cousin. So that technically makes Ruby my distant cousin." Naruto answered before he left.

He didn't have the photo of Kushina and Summer as he gave it to Ruby. So he doubted the girl would show it to Yang. Especially since Yang stopped referring to Summer as her mother during the last time the sisters spoke with each other.

Neither noticed Ozpin and Glynda watching form a distance.

"As I told you Glynda. The children can work things out by themselves." Ozpin said as Glynda still looked unconvinced.

"They destroyed a lot of property." Glynda argued.

"Structures break and fall. They can be replaced and put together. Relationships however, can either break or strengthen one another." Ozpin said spreading his wisdom. Until he frowned, "We do have a problem on our hands." he said.

"What would that be?" Glynda asked sounding concerned.

Ozpin raised his mug. Glynda stared at her superior in confusion for a few minutes. Only did she realize what he meant that she frowned.

"That caffeine will be death of you." Glynda said as she left.

"It's caffeine that empowers me." Ozpin said as he tried licking the dry coffee stains in his mug.

The next morning

Once again, it was time for class. The usual routine was something the boys at Team JASN were getting used to. However it appeared that Naruto was stubborn today. Josuke held back a chuckle as he grabbed a cup and filled it with water. The teen tiptoed towards his sleeping teammate and raised the cup over his body.

"You snooze, you lose!" Josuke yelled as he dumped the water.

Only instead of Naruto jumping out and trying to attack Josuke. The bedsheets were thrown away as a girl kicked Josuke hard enough in the chest to make him crash into the wall. Then Squall proceeded to dodge every attack that the bedroom intruder had until he and Adam held her down.

"Ruby!?" Adam asked.

Ruby started panting before realizing where she was, "Oh hey guys!" She said just as Naruto got up from bed.

"Damn Josuke, why did… Ruby!?" Naruto asked.

Josuke groaned as he stood up, "Dude, what is your sister doing in your bed?" he asked as he clutched his chest.

Naruto stared at Ruby which made her nervous, "I got lonely." she said.

"Ruby, shouldn't you be sleeping in your room?" Naruto asked.

"I don't like it there. I never slept there and I won't start now." Ruby said.

"Wait what?" Naruto asked with a shocked face.

When suddenly they heard the door knocking. Squall opened the door very slowly, as if he was being cautious for some reason. When he did, he scowled seeing Blake and Weiss for some reason.

"Is Naruto here? Ruby went missing again." Weiss asked only to see Ruby.

"Hey guys!" Ruby greeted.

"Ruby what are you doing in here?" Blake asked.

"Big brother keeps me warm." Ruby answered bluntly.

Naruto sighed, "Okay Ruby, you have some explaining to do." he said.

Then Weiss crossed her arms, "Yeah she does. She doesn't come to the room before we go to sleep and she's not there by morning either." she said.

Ruby shrunk down as she saw Naruto glare at her, "I don't like it." she said.

"Have you been sleeping in trees again?" Adam asked as he already started changing.

"Sleeping where?" Weiss asked.

Naruto groaned, "When you're on your own in the wild. You have to adapt. Ruby learned to find comfort in sleeping in trees, but I guess she decided to sneak in here." he answered.

"And apparently hurt anyone that wakes her up. Damn, what are those reflexes?" Josuke asked.

"I'll explain later, for now. Go to your room Ruby. We have class." Naruto said as Ruby whimpered and followed her teammates back to her room.

"I'm glad I don't have siblings." Josuke muttered as he also started changing into his uniform.

"You get used to her." Adam said having been with the pair for a few months.

"Also, what kind of guy dumps water on a sleeping guy?" Naruto asked with a glare.

Josuke laughed it off, "It was a joke man!" he said as he was ready to run out the door.

This is basically another day for Team JASN. Maybe next time they'll interact more with Team JNPR.

NOTES: R-Mobile is a pun on T-Mobile. Bad pricing, service… depends, but not so good in my opinion.
