Chapter 10

The pieces shift

Sansa

Sansa returned to her rooms with her head still in the clouds. She had just been for a walk with Prince Tommen around the walls and they had discussed what they would do if they were not highborn. Sansa would be a singer or maybe work somewhere selling books and Tommen, after some prompting, admitted he would like to work on the ships. Sansa was imagining him arriving back to their house covered in sea salt and sweeping her into his arms but was jolted out of her daydreams as when she turned, she found her sister stood in the middle of her room with her clothes strewn everywhere.

"ARYA." Sansa shouted but before she could get anything else out Arya's hand was on her mouth.

"Shhh. Listen, Sansa, listen. The Queen took father. She arrested him on some stupid fake charges because he was nice to the demon king. We must leave." Arya said all of this very quickly and quietly.

"The Queen arrested father?" Sansa said slowly.

"Yes, and we must leave. Keep up Sansa, we are in danger." Arya hissed. "I have packed your essentials I was just waiting for you to arrive."

"Arya, why would we be in danger? We have done nothing wrong." Sansa said.

"The Queen seemed to imply it to father, I was listening in the walls, Sansa we must go now." Arya began pulling her towards the fireplace.

"Arya I can't leave. I just can't." Sansa cried thinking of Tommen all alone again.

"Here I found this." Arya grumbled thrusting a note in her hand, Sansa recognised the hand immediately. Father.

Arya in case I have not been imagining and you have been visiting I believe we are in trouble. Take Sansa and go North. Go to Rob and your mother. Sansa go with her. I love you both.

Sansa gasped and allowed Arya to pull her into the hole in the fireplace that appeared as Arya pushed the back of the fireplace. It was pitch black before Arya lit a candle and began walking the tunnels as if she knew the way.

"Arya – "

"Not now." Arya hissed. "They may hear."

They walked in silence for many moments before they came upon a large opening filled with the skulls of gigantic creatures with teeth as big as swords.

"We should be safe here for a few moments, catch your breath." Arya said kindly.

"How do you even know of these tunnels?" Sansa asked.

"I found them our first day here." Arya smiled. "I have been exploring ever since."

"That sounds like you." Sansa sighed. "Arya, how will we leave the city? We have no food, no water, no money, and no horses."

Arya stood still for a moment before nodding.

"I will go to the kitchens and get us food and water and I have gold with me. We will go to the edges of the city before buying two horses and riding North hard and fast. You will need some proper riding clothes sister so we will stop somewhere for those too." Arya looked around as she spoke. Seemingly finding what she was looking for she picked up the bag she had set down in a dark corner behind the largest dragon skull.

"Sansa. I need you to stay here and I'm going to have to take the candle. I move faster alone, and we need to leave this castle before they notice we are gone." Arya said sounding very much the older sister.

Sansa, although afraid nodded and sat behind the skull without comment.

"I'll be as quick as I can." Arya said.

With that Sansa was alone in the dark.

Tommen

Tommen was walking around the courtyard around dusk trying to avoid his mother. Since she had come back from her banishment, she had been insufferable, not to him of course, but she had been storming around the castle trying to exert power. Joffrey was, for once, disagreeing with her and he knew that they were currently in the family wing screaming at each other. Tommen didn't care about what. He just wanted to be left alone with his thoughts of Sansa.

Sansa.

The only person who had ever looked past his family, past his brother, to see Tommen. She also tried to help him and to give him purpose. Sansa was even the only person who truly understood the complex emotions he had about his father's death.

It was just then when he saw two shadows skirting around the edge of the courtyard, quite obviously not wanting to be seen. He was about the shout to the guards when he noticed a lock of hair fall from one of the hoods. It was bright red. There was only one person who had hair like that in the red keep. Why was Sansa sneaking around? And with who?

Tommen, bravely, approached and before he could speak, he found a small knife pressed into his side.

"Arya!" He heard Sansa hiss. "Leave Tommen alone, he's my friend!" His heart sped up at the admission.

"He's one of them!" Arya said.

"What does she mean Sansa?" Tommen asked looking directly at her.

"Tommen. Your mother. She." Sansa stuttered and her voice dropped off.

"Your mother took our father from his sick bed! She was going to take us too." Arya said the anger in her voice palpable.

Tommen gasped. "I swear I didn't know. Sansa, I swear."

"I know Tommen I believe you. But I can't stay. Arya and I are in danger here, so we must leave. Please. Please don't tell anyone you saw us." Sansa begged him and as he looked into her eyes, he knew what he had to do.

"I'll come too. I can't stay here without you. I can't be alone again. Please take me with you Sansa." Tommen said quickly.

"It's bad enough trying to get us two out." Arya grumbled.

There were a few seconds where they were all looking at each other until Arya sighed. "I suppose having you might help us get out of the castle and you can keep Sansa safe when I need to go forage. We need to go now though and there is no time to get anything for you."

"I have everything I need." Tommen said and Sansa smiled.

They headed towards the gates and as soon as the guards saw the prince, they let him, and his companions pass without question.

Tommen looked back and saw his old life. The life of the least wanted child, the least wanted prince and the bullied little brother. Sansa slipped her hand into his and pulled him forward. To the future then.

Cersei

Cersei stormed into her rooms in a rage, flinging a goblet at the walls as she threw herself into a plush overstuffed armchair. How could her son, her golden lion, dare to question her?! She had moulded him into the perfect king but who would also heed his mother's advice. After all she had been raised by Tywin Lannister, the greatest hand of the king. If she had been born with a cock, she would have been Lord of the Westerlands.

Joffrey had dared to question and even demand answers as to why she had arrested Ned Stark. He even asked for proof! As if her word wasn't good enough. Joffrey really wasn't the same boy she had left when her cunt of a husband had sent her back to her father's castle.

The thought of her husband brought a smile to her lips. The first since their wedding day. Cersei had planned to kill her husband soon enough, but the oaf went and did it himself. She needed Joffrey to be ready but too young to take on the duties. It seemed she was wrong. The short time Joffrey had been without her had taken a toll. Cersei had to correct this.

Joffrey had taken Ned Stark out of the cell Cersei had placed him in and into a confined room. As she was his regent, she did still have some power, but nobody would outright defy the king.

Cersei sighed and tried to put this awful day out of her mind. She was practically ruling Westeros now. Her husband was dead. Jamie and herself were back in the same place and she knew as soon as he was able, he would come to her rooms to give her a proper welcome back.

The thought of Jamie had her fingers heading towards her slit instantly, it had been a lonely couple of months back at the rock. Sure, she had fucked a few servants, but nothing would ever match the passion she had with her twin. He was her with a cock, he was her other half. She felt herself grow wetter as she pictured them side by side ruling Westeros as it always should have been. Cersei was born to rule and soon everybody would know that.

It was not long before Cersei was lost in her fantasies when she was interrupted with a knock on the door. She quickly hurried fixing her skirts and washing her hands in a bowl of water left on her cabinets.

"Enter." She finally said trying to not sound breathless.

"Your Grace." Pycelle said as he shuffled into the room.

"Pycelle it's late." Cersei said annoyed.

"It is most urgent, your grace." Pycelle simpered. How she hated this man. "You instructed me to bring all correspondence to you personally before the king."

"Hand it over then." Cersei snapped.

Pycelle passed two scrolls over both with a seal she hated with a passion. The stag.

She quickly scanned the first scroll and her face darkened even more. Cersei tore open the other and screamed in fury.

"Out! Get out!" She shrieked at Pycelle. Pycelle quickly complied.

Cersei walked over to the tapestries on her walls and with a tug she pulled and pooled around her feet. Not yet satisfied she upturned the tables in the room as she continued to yell.

When she was spent, she sat in the middle of her destroyed chambers clutching the two scrolls, which she knew had gone to all major keeps in Westeros, it was war. Both Baratheon brothers had declared themselves king. Even worse was Stannis, that fucking stone faced cunt, had declared her children bastards. Born of incest. It was true and Cersei knew it but now it was out there for everyone to know.

Her mind slipped to the prophecy Maggie the frog had told her all those years ago and she knew the time was ticking. Now the world knew of her children's origins they were in danger and so was she. She needed to get rid of the Valonqour.
