Chapter 5

Dam it. Dam it all

First Tommy, and now Wilbur? I swear to god, If Techno decides to-

"Phew- Breathe Phil. Calm down, They're probably fine." Probably? But what if they're not? Wilbur might be doing decently fine- But Tommy? Oh god- I can physically feel my blood pressure going up…

"Hey, dad-" The familiar voice brought me back to my senses.

"Wilbur! Where in God's name have you been?!" I rushed up to him, encased him in a hug, and then pulled him by his ear all the way to the bonfire that Techno was tending to.

"Ow ow ow ow ow-"

When I released him he began rubbing his ear frantically.

"Okay-i'll admit... I deserved that." He cringed and looked at me. I crossed my arms and began impatiently tapping my foot on the ground. Not only did he not find Tommy, but got himself lost for hours. Sundown was hours ago! What could he have been doing for so long that he completely forgot that his younger brother was missing and that we're currently homeless? I glared at him, waiting for some kind of response or explanation, But all I got in return was a sheepish neck rub as he stared at the floor. I stopped taping my foot and Wilbur looked up.

"Well? Ya gonna tell me where the actual fuck you've been?" He flushed, hard, and then nodded slowly. Wilbur put his hands in his pockets and began swaying slowly on his feet.

"So- um… I met someone…"

He-what? I rubbed my face, tired.

"Wil...son, I'd love to tell you that that's great and all but I can't. Not right now. We're homeless, Tommy's missing, and I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen to us next. We don't even know how long we're going to be here for."

"I know, I know, Believe me, I Know. The timing couldn't be any worse...But this girl- oh my god! She understood my Shakespeare quote. Shakespeare!" A girl in this era who understands a William Shakespeare quote? My god, they are made for each other. Even though I was slightly upset by our situation I let him gush about her for a while. We need some hope in these times. Wilbur spoke and told us all about how they just talked for hours about both everything and nothing. Quoting poetry and novels every so often. Wilbur has always had a way with words, to hear that he finally found someone else whom he could share his passion for literature with sounded absolutely astounding. He describes things in such detail that even I was able to picture how exactly he had come to meet her. As Wilbur gushed on and on about Sally, Techno's ears perked up to the rustling in the bushes nearby. We all went quiet. Not so long after a very tall demon peered through the leaves and pushed some branches aside to get to us.

"Are you sure it was here?" He spoke and we all stood up, on pins and needles, readying ourselves in case we had to run.

"Yes! I've told you like a bajillion times already Bad! I have very good senses and memory! Just trust me, if we keep going this way then eventually-" Tommy's voice rang out from behind him. Upon further inspection, I caught a glimpse of Tommy on the creature's back. Tommy simultaneously noticed me and tugged on the demon's hoodie.

"Put me down Bad, that's my dad!" The demon slowly grabbed hold of Tommy and lowered him to the forest floor. Tommy ran up to me, and I gladly obliged the embrace. I put him down and ruffled his hair before starting his lecture about running off in some unknown area.

"Good lord Tommy, Just where have you been? You could have gotten yourself in so much danger. You've been gone almost 10 hours!" I scolded him for a good 5 minutes before finally addressing the demon in the room.

"Speaking of which- " I looked up and made eye contact with the tall demon who nodded in response.

"It's not my fault! I fell into a stupid trap and then these soldiers guys were after us so Bad took me back to their hideout until it was safe. This guy can run really, really, fast too!" He made his hands into fists to help exclaim just how fast the tall demon, Bad, could run.

"Yeah it was actually my fault he's been gone for so long, I'm really sorry about that. But actually, it's really dangerous out there. He was lucky I found him before the hunters did. They'd have him turned over to the capital and god knows what evil they do there!" The tall demon crossed his arms as his tail swung anxiously behind him. Tommy looked at both of us before speaking again," Well, actually dad, about that- Bad and Captain Puffy agreed that'd prolly be best if we went and stayed at their camp. At least until we can find someplace to live, ya know?" Tommy's being rational? What has the world come to? Both Techno and Wilbur turned towards me, awaiting a response. I rubbed my temple as I thought over that idea. I pinched my nose while thinking, Once I came to a decision I crossed my arms and looked up at them.

"Alright. We have to pack our things and gather materials for the journey then." Techno, notably agreeing, stood up and started to gather some items. Wilbur, on the other hand…

"Wait- Right now? But- But he just got here! And how do we know we can even trust them? For all, we know this could be some sort of trap." Techno rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, "Loverboy doesn't want to leave his new girlfriend." Wilbur flustered.

"I-That- I didn't-" He grew even redder. I chuckled, How I love my idiot sons. Wilbur looked up at me with pleading eyes, how I wished I could grant him this- But not now- Not in the middle of a war. I stood my ground and shook my head. Wilbur dropped his eyes to the floor and sheepishly fiddled with his coat, his eyes began to water. I hated when they cried. I hated when my sons had to go through anything that they didn't want to. To compromise, I thought that I should at least let him say his 'farewells.' I put my hand on his shoulder, " We leave at noon, you'll have until then to say your goodbye." He looked up at me and gave me a slight nod, understanding the severity of our situation. When I looked up I was met with a pair of midnight black eyes, Bad, the demon, shook his head.

"Staying here any longer is seriously pushing it. The hunters and soldiers could be here at any moment." I put my hand up, considering his advice, I chose to ignore it. "My boys have been through enough, I'll let Wilbur at least have this." Wilbur gave me a slight smile and Bad looked at me with disappointment.

"Alright then… I'll stay with you guys tonight in case anything happens."

"Footprints- Someone was here recently." The masked man in a forest green cloak knelt down and pressed a few fingers on the muddy footprint

"What? Don't look at me, I didn't do anything!" The shorter, brunette, on a white steed, shrugged, guiltily.

"Yeah, but if you didn't decide to slack off and take a nap we would have gotten the sighting earlier and have caught them." The slightly taller, black-haired man quipped back.

"Shut up Sapnap." The short man retorted.

"Both of you just- be quiet, I'm focusing…." The masked man in the cloak stood up and inspected the forest area around them before putting his hands in front of him and starting conjuring up a seeing spell.

"Wow, so now he wants us to be quiet." The short little man rolled his eyes

"George!" The cloaked man broke concentration and frustratedly turned around.

"Sorry." George apologized and rubbed his neck. After a few minutes of silence, a large blue wave of light engulfed them for a few seconds and the green cloaked man turned back to his friends.

"...Found them."
