"Mental talk with Duel Spirits"

"Announcements/ messages"

Jaden was leaning on the railing of the ship that was taking him, Erina and the rest of the students over to Duel Academy. The ocean breeze was caressing his face as he shuffled through his deck, trying to calm down the excitement that was building up. He's been waiting for this day for a long time. He was hoping that there would be some strong duelist he can face, or at least interesting ones, but if not, he took solace that there was at least one person there who'd give him a challenge.

'Can't wait to meet him again.' Jaden thought to himself as he put his deck back in its case.

He turned around and observed the people he'd call classmates from now on. Jaden's eyes stopped at a beautiful blond girl with hazel eyes, she was talking with two girls who he presumed were her friends. He was staring at her curiously, wondering why she looked kind of familiar.

"Oh? Getting a crush already?" Yubel's teasing brought him back from his brainstorming and Jaden gave her a glare.

"It's not that, Yubel. For some reason she reminds me of someone, but I can't figure out who."

"Hmm… I don't recall seeing her till now, but her duel energy is slightly familiar." She mused.

At that moment Erina came over to him and dramatically leaned against the railing as she sighed in exasperation.

"'Sup?"

"These people are so boring!" Erina groaned. "Everyone I've talked with here, with the exception of Syrus and Bastion, are so boring! They are so full of themselves, arrogant, smug and they think they are above everyone else."

Jaden gave her a sympathetic smile. "Cheer up, I'm sure not everyone is like that."

"I hope so." She grumbled. "Or I'd have a really hard time not punching some of them."

"Also…" Erina gave him a teasing smirk. "You should be careful with the faces you make when you are 'alone'. Not everyone can see Duel Spirits like us, so you might just look like a loony to them."

Jaden rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever you say, your highness." He emphasized with a smirk.

"Call me that again and I might consider punching you!" She snapped with a glare. She hated when he called her that. They pretty much grew up together and he knew that nothing was handed to her on a silver platter. Her father lived by the motto 'You get what you earn.' and the same applied to her, of course her mother made sure it wasn't as harsh as Kaiba made it out to be, but still, she worked hard for almost everything. So any remarks like that from him stung a lot.

Any jab that Jaden had was halted as the loudspeakers crackled to life.

"Everyone, may I have your attention. If you look ahead of us you will see your new home away from home."

Both of them turned around and looked at the island. Far away, they could see the island was covered by a green forest and… a volcano? Seems unsafe. But the main attraction was the giant building in the centre. It had four domes on top of it, the largest being white followed by blue, yellow and red and it was surrounded by four brownish-yellow monoliths.

Erina and Jaden shared a grin. They arrived.

"Welcome to Academy Island, kids!"

All the freshmen were gathered in a large auditorium, talking amongst each other as they were waiting for the introduction. In front of the room was a large screen with the Duel Academy logo on it. Eventually, the logo faded away and a bald middle aged man with a goatee and a maroon blazer appeared.

"Welcome students!" He greeted with a pleasant voice. "I am Chancellor Sheppard and you are the best and brightest duelists to have applied at our prestigious Duel Academy! I encourage you all to study hard and give it your all. Who knows, maybe one of you will be the next King of Games?"

A murmur went through the crowd of students, all of them determined to try their best. Jaden and Erina gave each other a challenging smirk accompanied by fire in their eyes, their rivalry sparking even more.

"The academy is separated into three different dorms. I hope you all enjoy your living arrangements, depending on how you've placed of course." The Chancellor chuckled as the screen cut out.

Everyone left the auditorium to collect their welcome packages. Which contained their uniform, Duel Disk, class schedule and an academy issued PDA.

Syrus was standing in front of one of the stone decorations that lined the walkway to the academy, waiting for Jaden. He was wearing the Slifer Red uniform. Syrus knew that he would be accepted into the lowest Dorm of the three.

He was snapped out of his moping when he heard Jaden call out from behind him. Syrus turned around and saw them walking his way and went wide-eyed. His eyes stopping first at Erina, she wore the traditional Obelisk girls' uniform, but she added her own small flair to it. She wore black thigh high socks and kept her jacket unbuttoned, revealing a high-collared tank top underneath it.

He rubbed his eyes, trying not to ogle at her and quickly looked at Jaden. Upon seeing him, Syrus was shocked. Jaden was wearing red and black sneakers, dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt that hugged him snuggly, but the most shocking thing was his jacket. He was wearing a red unbuttoned jacket, which means he belonged to the Slifer Red dorm.

Syrus snapped out of his shock. "Wait, what!? Jaden, how are you in the Slifer Red dorm?!"

Jaden shrugged his shoulders, while Erina next to him looked pissed. "I asked myself the same thing! He should have been at least Ra Yellow given that he mopped the floor with Crowler."

"Don't you think that's exactly why I'm Slifer?" Jaden said as he turned to her. "I wounded his pride too much, and apparently he's the Vice-Chancellor. This is his sorry excuse for revenge, I guess." Jaden shrugged.

Erina's eyes lit up with an idea. "I could talk to dad, if you want? One phone call and you'll be where you really belong!"

Jaden, hearing this, shook his head. "Nah, I got an idea. I'll prove that the best student in this school is in the lowest dorm and I'll climb to the top on my own." He stated, his thumb pointing at himself with a confident smile on his face. "Plus, I really like the red jacket." He grinned sheepishly. Erina laughed, thinking this is just like him.

As they stood there and talked, Bastion noticed them and jogged to them. "Hello everyone, how are you all?" He then saw Jaden and stopped in his tracks. "Wait, Jaden? How are you at the bottom dorm?" Bastion was looking at him, thinking this had to be a mistake.

"Let's just say this was the work of a man with a fragile ego, and leave it at that. But hey, you are in the Yellow dorm, nice work!" Jaden said as he looked Bastion over, who was wearing the academy issued yellow boots and the jacked buttoned up.

Bastion nodded in thanks. They talked a bit more and then separated, going in the direction of their respected dorms.

"This isn't a dorm! It's an outhouse with a deck!" Syrus exclaimed in shock and disappointment. Their dorm looked like an old, decrepit two story shack, ready to fall apart.

Jaden however, was looking out over the cliff and onto the ocean with a smile on his face. "Are you kidding, Sy? Check out the view! I highly doubt the other dorms have one like this." Syrus just shrugged and they headed to their room.

"Huh, this is our room? It's a bit small, don't you think?" Syrus commented with a sullen look as they entered the room they'll be sharing.

Jaden looked over the room, it had a triple bunk bed, three desks, a large closet and a small kitchenette. "Well you're a pretty small guy, Sy! Besides, I kinda like it. It'll make a sweet pad for our first year."

"Yeah, it's kinda weird meeting at the entrance exams and now we're roommates?" Syrus said with a weird grin on his face. And speaking of weird, he began to imagine him and Jaden in some Egyptian garbs. Jaden as the pharaoh and Syrus as the Guardian Seto. "Think we were connected in some kind of ancient life?"

Jaden stared at the short boy, weirded out by his question. But, he was also fighting back the irony of being a reincarnated person from an ancient past.

"No offense, Sy, but that's kind of lame." Jaden said. "I mean, they would've broken the mold when they made us…"

"Yeah, for different reasons..." Syrus mumbled under his breath.

Jaden then put a hand on Syrus' shoulder causing the small boy to look up. "We gotta work on your confidence, Sy. You have the talent, you just have to believe in yourself."

Syrus stared at Jaden in shock. Jaden believed he had talent? Syrus suddenly smiled, thankful that he found a friend like Jaden.

"But before anything else, let's brighten this place a little." Jaden said as he walked towards the curtains and opened them.

"Those were closed for a reason, you know?" A voice from seemingly nowhere said. Jaden and Syrus looked up at the top bed and saw someone lying there.

Jaden closed the curtains slightly so it was darker in the room. "Sorry, we didn't see you there."

"Well do you see me now?!" The cover pulled back, revealing an angry heavy set boy whose face resembled that of a koala. Syrus suddenly screamed in fear and hid behind Jaden, while he just stared at the big boy above him. He's seen and experienced scarier things. "Will you stop screaming?!" The portly boy covered his ears. "Who are you and what are you doing in my room?!"

Jaden smiled. "Sorry, where are my manners? My name is Jaden Yuki." He then pointed behind him. "And the girl cowering in fear behind me is Syrus Truesdale. We are your new roommates." Syrus glared at Jaden for the comment, a red blush from embarrassment on his face.

The boy's eyes widened at hearing Syrus' last name, but quickly turned onto his back again. "I can see you guys are new here alright. Given how positive you are about being here. Just to be nice, I will tell you the most crucial rule here." He muttered, trying not to wake up so he could go back to sleep.

Syrus blinked. "Like when parent visits are?" Jaden rubbed the back of his head. The last thing he'd want was for the whole school to know that he's the son of the King of Games and start pestering him over it.

"Duh, like how the whole color thing works. That's more important than anything here." The boy turned around in his bed and looked at the two.

"There are three colored dorms here. Each named after the Egyptian Gods." They nodded and the portly boy continued. "Right, there's the Obelisks, the Ras and the Slifers. The Obelisks are the top students here. Most of them got into the school either by having really good grades or connections. The Ras are the middle ones, the ones that have a lot of potential. And then there's us, the Red Wonders."

Syrus got interested in that last part. "Wow, the Wonders! That sounds pretty cool." He said excitedly.

The boy snorted at his excitement. "Yeah right, more like, 'I wonder how these losers and flunkies ended up here?'. We are at the bottom of the food chain, the lowest of the low, the outcasts. Almost everyone hates us here. Oh and the name's Chumley Huffington, by the way." The boy lazily turned around and tried to go back to sleep.

Jaden looked to his side and saw Syrus with a depressed look on his face. He put his hand on his shoulder and pointed at the door, telling him to take a walk with him.

Jaden looked up at Chumley. "Well, we're going for a walk, nice meeting you, Chumley." They left the room, but not before Jaden grabbed his duel disk.

Jaden and Syrus were walking back towards the Academy building. Jaden had suggested they check it out to get familiar with the place, he looked down at Syrus when he heard him sigh. "Come on Sy, don't be so down."

"But you heard him, Jay! We're the outcasts of the academy, our journey to the top ended before it even began!"

Jaden's big brother instincts kicked in once again and stopped right in front of him. "Listen to me carefully, Syrus. Even if we're in the worst dorm, you passed your exams and made it here. That means that you have talent and you only need to believe in yourself to unlock it."

"Really?" Syrus asked in surprise. He got a small smile as Jaden nodded his head. "Thanks Jaden."

Jaden patted him on the shoulder and turned around to continue walking. "Anyway! Let's go and check this place out. I've been eager to see this place for a long time now."

"What do you mean?" Syrus asked in confusion.

"Well, about… two years ago? I met this guy who was then a freshman here. He told me all about this place and I couldn't help but be excited from all the stories and duels he told me about." Jaden recalled with a smile on his face. "This is gonna be quite the adventure. I'm gonna see if I can find him tomorrow."

Jaden and Syrus were walking along the hallways. They had checked out a couple of the class rooms, found the card shop, the Chancellor's office and finally arrived at a big arena, where two Obelisk boys were just wrapping up their duel.

Both of them looked around the arena. It was massive! A giant duel platform with rows upon rows of spectator seats. "Wow, this looks like a first class duel arena." Jaden said with stars in his eyes. The two Obelisk students noticed and walked toward them with irritated expressions on their faces.

"I can only think of how amazing it would be to duel in here." Syrus said as he was looking around.

Jaden smiled at him. "Then how about we find out, Sy? Wanna throw down?"

"A-against you? But- do you think we're even allowed to?" Syrus stammer out in nervousness. After he watched Jaden beat Crowler with ease, he didn't really want to duel him.

Jaden shrugged. "Of course, we are students here after all and this is our campus, right?"

However at that moment he heard someone say something to him. "Wrong, this is our campus!" Both Jaden and Syrus turned forward and saw two Obelisk boys one with spiky brown hair and the other with glasses and blue hair.

"And you two are?" Jaden asked in confusion.

The boys growled at him for not showing them respect. "The name is Taiyou Teriyaki." The blue haired boy introduced himself before the one with spiky hair.

"And I'm Raizou Mototani and you Slifer slimes aren't allowed here. Look at the crest behind you, losers."

Jaden and Syrus looked where Raizou was pointing and saw a symbol of Obelisk's head on the wall, symbolizing that the arena belonged to the Blue dorm.

Syrus looked back at them a little scared. "S-sorry, we were just looking around to see how this place looked, but if you don't want us to be here we will leave, right Jay?" He stammered out, trying not to get into trouble.

Jaden was looking at the two Obelisks with a disinterested look. "Well, I think we should stay a little longer and…" He pointed at the two boys. "One of you should duel me!"

Syrus looked at Jaden, wondering if he's crazy. However, at that moment Taiyou's eyes widened as he recognized Jaden.

"Wait! I thought you looked familiar, you're the guy who beat Crowler in one turn."

Raizou looked up at the spectator seats. "Hey Chazz, that punk who beat Crowler is here!"

Jaden and Syrus looked up at where he was looking and saw a boy with spiky raven hair looking at them with narrowed eyes.

Jaden smiled at him. "Sup, my name is Jaden, and your name is… Chuzz?"

Chazz gritted his teeth at Jaden for getting his name wrong, while the other two boys glared at Jaden before Taiyou spoke up. "You should show him respect slacker! His name is Chazz Princeton and he was the top duelist at Duel Prep School, meaning he's the top duelist of the first year."

Jaden rolled his eyes at hearing that, clearly unimpressed.

Raizou then spoke up. "Yeah, and one day he'll be the next King of Games once he dethrones Yugi Muto and takes his title."

"Yeah right, good luck with that." Yubel scowled, appearing behind Jaden, irritated by the obnoxious attitudes these boys had.

Jaden glanced at Chazz, while he crossed his arms. "That's impossible." Jaden showed his confident smile and pointed his thumb at himself. "It's completely impossible for him to be the next King of Games. Because yours truly will have that honor!"

The two Obelisks looked at him for a few seconds before they began laughing like crazy. they then glared at him. "A Slifer reject the next King of Games? I'll believe it when I see it. In fact, let's prove how wrong you are right now, by crushing you in a duel." Taiyou said.

"Quiet both of you!" Chazz shouted at his goons. "Who knows, he might be right. He did beat Crowler in one turn, so he must have at least some skill."

Jaden looked up at him with a confident smirk. "You got that right, Chazz. At least you have a brain, unlike your lackeys here."

The two Obelisks growled at him. Chazz got a mean smirk after Jaden said that. "Or you might be some punk who got lucky? I guess there's only one way to find out, slacker."

Jaden's smirk grew bigger as did Yubel's. She will enjoy seeing Jaden put this snobby brat in his place. Any new banter was interrupted by a new, pleasant voice intervening.

"Well isn't this a motley gathering?"

They all turned to the voice and Jaden saw the blond girl from the boat. She stood there with her arms crossed over her chest.

Syrus stared a little at her then he leaned to Jaden. "Who is she?"

Jaden then heard Chazz address her with a flirtatious tone. "Hey Alexis! Did you come to see me mop the floor with my new friend Jaden here? The duel will be short, max three turns, but it will be entertaining."

Alexis glared at him. "The only reason I even came here is to tell you that the welcome dinner will start soon and you three are late!"

Chazz got a disappointed look on his face as he began walking away, his two goons following behind him. He gave Jaden a sideways glance. "Don't think you're off the hook, slacker."

Jaden and Syrus looked at them as they walked away, while Alexis came towards them. "I'm sorry if Chazz gave you a bad impression, not all of us Obelisks are like him. Sure there are some who might look down on others from the lower dorms, but he's just cruel, especially against Slifers."

Jaden saw how ticked off she looked at the cruel treatment Chazz and his friends had given them. He couldn't help but feel touched. "Don't let it bother you." Jaden said with a soft smile. "It doesn't bother me. He's just a spoiled rich kid, who doesn't know the word 'no'. I won't let someone like that bother me."

Alexis was caught off guard by his easy tone and that he didn't even seem at the least bothered. She smiled. "I saw your duel against Crowler at the exams and let me tell you, I was very impressed. You're really talented."

Jaden's smile grew bigger. "Thanks. I hope we get a chance to duel each other soon."

She nodded. "Same here... Also, I would hurry up if I were you, the Slifer dinner will start soon."

"Well, I guess we should get going then." Jaden began to jog, but stopped suddenly. "Oh, I almost forgot." He turned and looked at Alexis. "What was your name again? Alexis…?"

Alexis smiled slightly. "Yup, I'm Alexis Rhodes and yours was?"

"The name's Jaden Yuki. Nice to meet you Alexis and I guess I'll see you around!" Jaden then took off running.

"Hey, aren't you gonna introduce me?!" Syrus complained as he ran after him.

Alexis looked at them as they ran off towards their dorm while she was smiling. 'Jaden, huh? It will be an interesting year with you around.' She stopped for a moment as it hit her. 'Wait… Jaden Yuki? Huh, could he be the same one?' She wondered as she began walking to the girls' dorm for the welcome dinner.

The two Slifer boys were running towards the Red dorm for their welcome dinner. Syrus looked at Jaden as they ran. "Aren't you a fast one, hitting on a girl you just met?" He teased.

Jaden looked shocked. "I wasn't hitting on her! I was just being friendly." Jaden tried to defend himself.

"Really? So that's why your heart rate went up, huh?" Yubel appeared next to Jaden with a playful smirk on her face. Jaden just shot her a glare as he continued running.

As they were running, Jaden's eyes suddenly widened. Syrus looked at him as he heard him gasp and could have sworn he saw his eyes turn golden for a split second before they turned brown again. Jaden stopped and looked around with narrowed eyes.

Syrus looked confused, Jaden seemed on edge for some reason. "What's wrong, Jay?"

Jaden suddenly remembered Syrus was there, he smiled sheepishly at him. "It's nothing Sy, I thought I heard something, that's all."

Syrus gave him a suspicious look, wondering if he was telling the truth. He was also wondering if he just imagined Jaden's eyes turning golden, but before he could ponder longer, Jaden took off running again and Syrus ran behind him. Unaware to him that Jaden had a worried look.

'I can't have felt what I did, right? I mean, how can a power like that be here on the island? I also should have felt it the moment I stepped on the island.' Jaden thought to himself troubled as he and Syrus were getting close to the dorm.

While the Obelisk and Ra students were having fancy dinners. At the Slifer dorm the students were a little disappointed since all they got was some sauce, sardines and rice. Definitely not what one would call a well balanced meal.

"Is this our big fancy dinner?" Asked one of the students.

"Forget about the dinner, our headmaster's a cat!" Said another student while pointing at a fat, brown cat lying on the table the headmaster sat on.

But at that moment, the door opened and a tall and skinny man with black jeans, a white shirt with a tie, black hair pulled back in a ponytail and glasses appeared. He picked up the cat. "Greetings, students. I'm Professor Layman Banner and I'm your headmaster. Now, before we dig in, I would like it if you all tell us a little about yourselves and…" He however got interrupted by Jaden.

"This is delicious!" Everyone looked back at where Syrus and Jaden were sitting and saw Jaden stuffing his face.

Syrus looked a little troubled. "Jaden, we are supposed to say something about ourselves..." He tried to stop him.

"Well how about this, I'm starving!" Jaden said with his mouth full.

Syrus saw Banner coming towards them. "Jaden, seriously, he's coming here. He's…" He warned him, but couldn't finish as Banner stood right in front of them.

Jaden looked up from his food when Syrus got quiet and saw Banner right in front of him and got a little nervous. But then the professor smiled. "Well, since it seems some of us don't feel like waiting... Let's eat instead!"

Everyone nodded and began eating, shocked at the fact that their food was quite good for how it looked.

After the Welcome Dinner, Jaden and Syrus were back in their room, enjoying some tea. They tried offering some to Chumley, but the boy was still displeased that he had roommates.

Jaden had his deck sprawled out on the floor, trying to form new strategies, while he drank his tea. Syrus had decided to leave him alone as he was doing something on his desk, while Chumley was trying to go back to sleep. As Jaden was collecting his cards, his PDA went off. He opened it and saw that he got a message from Chazz.

"Don't think you're off the hook, Slifer Slime! Tonight at midnight, be back in the arena and I'll show you that I'm superior. Winner takes the loser's best card."

Jaden smiled as he pocketed his PDA. "Sweet, I guess I will be dueling him after all."

Chumley turned over in his bunk and looked at him. "You know this could be a trap to get you in trouble, right?"

Jaden shrugged. "Come on, if he wants to throw down, then I'm game!"

Syrus looked shocked. "W-wait a sec, Jaden. You're not serious about this, are you?"

"I'm dead serious, Sy. I never back down from a challenge."

"B-but it's against the rules to duel with an ante!" Syrus was worried that his friend might get in trouble. "If you get caught, you'll be expelled. Plus, I don't think we're allowed at the arena this late."

"You might be right about that, Sy. But I'm still going, you don't have to if you don't want." Jaden said as he picked up his Duel Disk and was heading for the door.

"Wait, I'm not leaving you alone! I'm coming with you." Jaden smiled as he heard Syrus say this and they left the room, heading for the arena. But not before he shot Erina a quick message.

When they walked in the arena, they saw Chazz standing on the stage with his two friends sitting in the stands. "You actually showed up, huh? I figured a slacker like you would have ran scared."

Jaden rolled his eyes as he walked up to his side of the arena.

"I don't back away from a challenge, Chuzz." Jaden said his name wrong intentionally and could see a vein pop up on Chazz's forehead.

"It's Chazz, you slacker! Chazz Princeton! And I'm going to make sure you remember it the hard way." Chazz activated his duel disk and drew his starting hand, Jaden responded doing the same.

Jaden: 4000

Chazz: 4000

"Get your game on, Chazz!" Jaden smirked.

"Don't tell me what to do! I draw!" Chazz said through gritted teeth.

"I summon Reborn Zombie in defense mode!"

A rotten carcass rose from the ground with tattered clothes and white hair, it went down on one knee with its arms crossed. (ATK: 1000/ DEF: 1600)

Chazz slipped two cards into his Disk. "I place two cards facedown and end my turn."

"Not bad, Chazz. But I like to go big. My draw!" Jaden drew his card and scanned his hand.

"I activate Polymerization!" Jaden declared and held up two cards. "I fuse together Elemental HERO Avian with Elemental HERO Burstinatrix and summon my favorite hero! Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!"

The two heroes jumped into the vortex. From it flew out a green skinned male hero. He had a red, dragon head arm, a long red lizard tail and one white feathered wing on his back. (ATK: 2100/ DEF: 1200)

"You're so predictable! I knew you'd fusion summon from the start.' Chazz smirked as his facedown turned over. "I activate Chthonian Polymer!"

Jaden frowned, while Syrus looked confused. "What does that do?" He asked and was startled as he heard a new voice behind him.

"Why am I not surprised that you're already dueling before we've even officially started the year?"

Syrus spun around on his heel and saw Erina walk in the arena with Alexis in tow.

"As for your question, Sy. It takes Jaden's Wingman as long as Chazz sacrifices a monster from his field." Erina explained as they stopped next to him.

Jaden and Chazz also heard them come in. Jaden gave them a smile and waved, while Chazz was shocked to see the two best female freshmen walk into the arena.

"Erina Kaiba and Alexis Rhodes? You girls arrived just in time to see me mop the floor with this slacker." Chazz said full of confidence. "But, how did you even know we were here?"

Chazz's Reborn Zombie shattered to pixels and a flame enveloped Flame Wingman, teleporting him to Chazz's field.

Erina rolled her eyes. "Jaden sent me a text asking if I wanted to watch." She gestured with her thumb at Alexis. "And I was hanging out with Alexis at the time, so she tagged along."

Chazz's eyes bugged out. "Wait a minute?!" He turned to Jaden. "You know her?!"

"Well yeah, we've been best friends for years." Jaden revealed with a shrug. It really wasn't a big deal to him.

"You and Erina Kaiba are best friends?!" Chazz's jaw dropped to the floor.

Jaden rolled his eyes and sighed. He was getting tired of Chazz having a mental freakout. "Well, yeah…" He grinned. "You know how it is... It followed you home so you decided to keep it."

"Fuck you, Jaden!" Erina flipped him off, making Jaden grin even wider.

"Alright, enough chit-chat." Jaden said, bringing their attention back to the duel. "Since I still have my normal summon, I summon Winged Kuriboh to the field!"

Jaden's fuzzy companion appeared on the field, his hands brought together, signifying he was in defense mode. (ATK: 300/ DEF: 200)

Erina squealed upon seeing the adorable fuzzball for the first time. "Jaden! Why didn't you tell me you had him!?" But just at that moment Chazz let out the most mocking laugh he could let out.

"That's your back up plan?! What a joke! What's that rat supposed to do?"

Chazz suddenly stopped laughing as he felt a cold chill run down his spine. He looked to the side and saw Erina glaring at him with such intensity that it could kill.

"If you dare insult him again, I will hurt you." She warned in an icy calm voice, making Chazz fear for his life.

Jaden shook his head in amusement as he plucked a card from his hand. "I throw down a facedown! Your move, Chuzz."

"My turn!" Chazz drew his card. "I activate my trap card, Call of the Haunted and bring back my Zombie."

The lanky zombie rose up from the earth. (ATK: 1000/ DEF: 1600)

"And then" Chazz placed a card on his Disk. "I tribute him to summon, Chthonian Emperor Dragon in attack mode!"

A large green serpent dragon with black armor and wings appeared on the field. (ATK: 2400/ DEF: 1500)

"That's not all! I play Double Summon! In order to activate his gemini effect. Now I attack twice with him! Attack! Hellfire Blast!" The dragon roared as it channeled a blast of fire and shot it at Winged Kuriboh, destroying him.

Chazz laughed maniacally. "Now, you're wide open! Hellfire Blast!" The dragon unleashed another fireball straight at Jaden. Syrus called out in worry as the blast connected and caused an explosion.

Once the dust settled, Chazz looked on in disbelief. "What? How did your life points not change?!"

Jaden smirked. "Well, when Winged Kuriboh is sent to the graveyard, I take no battle damage for the rest of the turn."

Chazz gritted his teeth in irritation. "Fine! Make your pathetic move so I can finish this duel.

"Here goes something!" Jaden confidently drew. "I play Pot of Greed! With this, I can draw two cards!" Jaden drew his extra cards and smirked.

'He just won.' Erina grinned to herself as she saw the telling smirk he always got before winning.

Alexis suddenly turned her head to the entrance, a worried expression started to make its way on her face. "Um, guys, we got company! Campus security! If we get caught, we'll be in serious trouble."

"What!?" Syrus yelped.

"Why? We're all students here." Jaden was confused as he looked back at them.

"No dueling past curfew, Jay. You and I will be fine, but not everyone else." Erina motioned to him to get going.

Jaden sighed and walked down from the arena as did Chazz. "Saved by the bell, Chazz!" Jaden grinned, causing the boy to scoff.

"I saw all I needed to." Chazz sneered. "You beating Crowler was a fluke and nothing more." Chazz said as he and his goons left the arena.

"Alright, let's get going." Erina said as they left and avoided the guards.

After masterfully navigating and avoiding security, they made it outside. Alexis looked to Jaden as he, Erina and Syrus followed after her.

Jaden smiled appreciatively at the blond. "Thanks for showing us the back way out."

Alexis smiled back. "No problem. Sorry, you didn't get to finish your duel though."

Jaden shrugged. "It's cool. I know how it would have ended anyway." He grinned.

"Really?" Alexis raised an eyebrow. "No offense, but it looked like you were on the losing end."

"Nah." Erina chimed in with a smirk. "Jaden gets this stupid grin every time he's about to win."

"I… I do?" Jaden asked as a blush crept up his cheeks.

The bluenette nodded. "Yup, and it's really infuriating when you're on the receiving end of it." She admitted. "Anyway! Show the lady what you drew."

Jaden held up the two winning cards. Miracle Fusion and Form Change. Alexis' eyes widened as Jaden explained his move.

. . .

Jaden held up the first card her drew. "I activate Miracle Fusion! I can summon an Elemental HERO by banishing the materials needed from the field and graveyard. So, I banish Avian and Burstinatrix to bring forth, Elemental HERO Great Tornado!"

A gust of wind swept the field as a masked male wearing green and black armor with a black poncho covering his upper body appeared. (ATK: 2800/ DEF: 2200)

"And when he's summoned, he cuts the attack and defense of all of your monsters!" Jaden explained with a grin and Chazz's eyes widened. (ATK: 2100-1050) (ATK: 2400-1200)

Jaden looked at his Flame Wingman with an apologetic look. "I'm sorry I have to do this to you buddy, but you'll thank me later." He pointed at him. "Great Tornado, attack Flame Wingman!"

The wind hero collected a concentrated ball of wind in his hands and threw it. As it hit its target, it exploded into a tornado and destroyed Flame Wingman.

Chazz: 2250

Jaden held up his winning card with a smirk. "And to finish you off, I activate Form Change! I return Great Tornado to the Extra Deck and summon a level 8 Masked HERO!" Jaden placed his card on the Disk. "Come on out Masked HERO Koga!"

A gold helmet appeared in Great Tornado's hands and he placed it over his head. He shone a brilliant white for a moment before it died out, revealing a male hero wearing a white spandex underneath shining gold armor. He brandished the two gold blades he had attached to his forearms. (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 1800)

"First, he gains 500 attack points for every monster on your field!" (ATK: 2500-3000) Jaden smirked. "And second, I can banish a HERO monster from my grave and your dragon loses attack points equal to my banished HEROES."

He held up Flame Wingman. "And since Flame Wingman was mine to begin with, your dragon loses 2100 attack points!"

Chazz's eyes widened in horror as his dragon lost all of its attack points. (ATK: 1200-0)

"And now it's over! Koga, finish this!" The golden hero jumped forward at the dragon. He drove his blades into the dragon's head and destroyed it, making Chazz yell as his life points dropped.

Chazz: 0

"That's game!" Jaden smirked as he struck his two finger pose.

. . .

"Wait… that means Jaden won!" Syrus exclaimed in awe as Erina gave Jaden a high-five. All Jaden needed was another minute and he would have won.

Jaden ruffled the small boy's hair. "Yup! See what I mean, Sy? Rank means nothing."

"Oh!" Jaden looked at Alexis. "By the way, Alexis, you wouldn't happen to have a brother named Atticus, would you?"

Alexis' eyes widened. "How do you know Atti?"

"I met him two years ago during winter break. We became friends and I was wondering where he is."

Jaden's smile disappeared as he saw the depressed look on her face. "Jaden…" She wiped the small tears that began to form. "H-he disappeared here on the island a year ago."

Jaden's and the two others' eyes widened in shock at the news. Yubel appeared next to Jaden, listening carefully to their conversation.

"Atticus disappeared? And they haven't found anything?" Jaden asked and Alexis shook her head.

Jaden got a serious look in his eyes. "Well, I want to help you find him." Alexis' eyes widened upon hearing this. "He's a friend and I never abandon a friend in need."

"Thank you…" Alexis smiled gratefully at him. "So you really are that HERO duelist he met two years ago? He wouldn't stop talking about how amazing of a person you were and how I just had to meet you."

"Right back at you." Jaden smiled softly. "He said the same about you and I see why he wanted me to meet you too."

"Ah, Detective Jaden, back at it again!" Erina suddenly said, breaking the moment.

Jaden groaned as he blushed slightly. "I was eight years old then, drop it already." He chuckled. "Alright, see ya tomorrow, girls!" He waved goodbye as he and Syrus started walking back to their dorm.

'Yup, just like Atti described him.' Alexis thought to herself as she and Erina began heading back to their dorm.

Hey guys! Hope you like this chapter. I was on a roll the other day and made the first two chapters in one sitting, plus a draft of the third one (so expect it soon). I have a rough idea on how I want the whole series to be done, so I'll try and do it.

Now, about my OC... probably the thing you'd be interested in is what deck does she use? Well it was kind of difficult to find one that fits her. Obviously as the child of Seto Kaiba you have to use dragons. That much was obvious. But there aren't really any interesting archetypes that don't revolve around synchros...

I won't tell what it is, but I'll give a hint. Her deck isn't exactly an archetype. At least not in the sense like Cyber Angles, roids and HEROES are.

And speaking of heroes. Jaden has his whole arsenal here, except for Neos, but that is obvious. Also, I'll be reworking the effects of two fusion monsters. Why? Because one of them has a godawful effect for a supposed "ace monster" and the other gives you nothing in comparison for the material it needs. As for the Evil HEROES, I have an idea about them and I want your input when we cross that threshold.

Anyway! Please review, critique and suggest ideas if you have any(I won't add them if I don't like them), because I'm new to the whole writing scene.
