"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes."
"But it's just-"
"Python, I'm sure. You trust me don't you?"
"Of course I do. It's just… it could be dangerous."
Kyu smiled, rolling her eyes as she cradled their child in her arms. "There is literally no safer place on earth he could be. Hasn't my pantheons always treated you like family? They'll show the same protection to him. More so even," she said before lifting Kitsune up in the. "Daddy is being silly, isn't he my little kit?"
The infant laughed and waved his arms around, while Python sighed. He knew he was being paranoid, but he couldn't help it. It wasn't as if he didn't trust the Japanese pantheon. They had been the only gods he wasn't on bad terms with. But as for the rest of earth? He and his brothers had made enemies almost everywhere they went.
And he wouldn't have put it above Zeus or one of the others to try something, even if it wasn't in their domain.
Kyu saw he was still bothered and sighed. "It's going to be fine, Py. Lighten up for a bit and let your guard down. They'd have to fight through an entire army just to get to us here, and then they'd have to get through us. Oberon himself couldn't topple those odds," she reasoned.
Python grunted. "I suppose you're right." His fatherly instincts were going on overdrive, and had been ever since he had sensed life in her. He looked down at Kitsune, who smiled up at him. A smile of his own made its way across his face. He was perfect, in every possible way.
And he wanted to give him and his mother the world.
"Onee-sama!"
"Is that the boy?"
"He's adorable!"
Python's eyes went wide, and he suddenly found himself buried in a sea of fur. He tried to move the tangle of fluffy tails and bodies aside, but could hardly even tell where he was. Eventually he managed to make his way out, and looked over his shoulder and see a crowd of fox spirits.
They were all surrounding Kyu and Kitsune, eager to see their 'sister' and gush over her newborn child. Python watched them, wondering if he should try and make his way back into the mass of fluff. "Don't bother old friend," a voice said from behind. "You'll never make it. They've been awaiting you and Kyu-Sama's arrival since early this morning."
Python turned around and saw a large hulking figure approaching him. He was tall, dwarfing even his brother in height. He had tattoos that resembled scales covering his chest and arms, and two large horns growing out of his head. "Ryujin. It's good to see you looking well. How have you been?" he asked.
When he had first arrived here, he had been more than a little surprised to see that monsters were not only accepted, but had status among the pantheon. Ryujin, the famed 'dragon god' of the sea was among them. And had very much eased his worry he'd felt when Kyu dragged him here.
"As well as can be expected," he said, reaching down and patting him on the shoulder. "Nowhere near as well as you, however. Congratulations on the new addition to the family! When I had heard the news it was all I could do not to rush to your dimension and greet him myself. Unfortunately a fleet of invaders from the seas tried to make their way to our shores, and I had to be there to turn the tide in our peoples favor."
Python chuckled. "Don't fret over it. We all have our jobs to do after all. You're welcome to visit whenever you find the time." He turned back towards Kyu and Kitsune, who were still being swarmed by their fox kin. "I'd introduce you to my boy, but I'm not sure even you could make your way past all of that."
"Nor would I claim to. I've faced down many a mighty foe and the largest of armies, but even I don't dare put myself in that sort of peril," the dragon said amused.
Kyu managed to make her way out of the crowd, holding Kitsune up in the air. The boy seemed to be soaking in all the attention. "Okay, okay girls. We appreciate all the love and we've missed you too, but we have other people to greet," she said.
"Awww…"
All of the fox spirits frowned and pouted as she made her way over towards Python and Ryujin. When she spotted the former, her face lit up. "Ryujin! It's so good to see you again!" she said, moving forward to hug him. He beat her to it however, snatching her up in his arms.
"Ah! My dear Kyu! Full glad am I to see you again! And even after having child, you still glow as radiant as ever!" he said, looking down at Kitsune. "And it's hard not to see why! The little one resembles you so much! His mother's beauty and doubtless both your strength!"
He reached one hand down and poked at Kitsune, who grabbed his finger and squeezed it. "Oh yes, I can certainly tell this one will grow up to be a fine warrior! His strength will be unsurpassed!" he cheered.
Kyu giggled. "I'm sure he'll be quite the fighter. But for now I'd rather he just enjoy being a baby," she said, pinching his little cheek. Kitsune whined and feebly tried to push her hand away. "Oh c'mon, let mama dote on you for a bit."
Ryujin let out another laugh. "Well of course he doesn't want to be coddled! Child or not he still is a warrior!" he laughed. He wiped a tear from his eye before cracking his neck. "Well, I must be going. Much as I wish to be able to stay and spend the day with you and the child, there is business that needs to be done."
Python and Kyu both smiled up towards him. "So soon? That's a shame. But we understand. Be sure to come by again and visit. Not sure for Kitsune, we'd like to see more of you too," Python said.
"I'll be sure to! If I move with haste, perhaps I'll even make it back before you depart," he said, reaching down and patting Kitsune on the head one last time. He hugged both Python and Kyu and then turned and began making his way off. "Give Amaterasu-Sama my regards!"
"Oh my, what an absolute darling."
Python and Kyu watched as the women held their child up in the air. Kitsune laughed and reached down towards her. The woman had an air of elegance and grace about her. She had long black hair and her face was decorated with white makeup and just a bit of red mixed in.
She wore a golden and red kimono, that came off just as elegant as she was, and a golden headpiece which resembled a sun adorned her head. "It's been so long since I got the chance to even hold a baby. This reminds me of the time I had bringing up my own boys," she said, bringing Kitsune down and rubbing her face against his.
Kyu laughed as she watched the two. Amaterasu had always liked being around children. Specifically she enjoyed spoiling them. And she had no doubt that Kitstune would be the most spoiled just in mewni, even if their visits to one another were limited.
"Should we be worried about you trying to keep him?" Python asked jokingly. He understood just why everyone wanted to coddle him more than anyone else, but he did want to have his son back before this was over.
"If you play your cards right then perhaps," the goddess said. "It's your own fault really. How could you possibly produce something this adorably cute, bring it to my domain, and not expect me to be tempted to keep him?"
Kitsune laughed. "Well, he does have his father's handsome features."
Python and Amaterasu both looked at her. No matter how they sliced it there was no denying that the child took after her. But they couldn't tell if she was joking or not. "Well, even if I wanted to I don't think I'd have the time to look after another child. Besides, I'd rather have the responsibility of the aunt who spoiled him rather than raise him," she said, stroking his cheek. "I'm going to give you so many gifts your parents will need an entire castle to fit them."
"Well don't spoil him that much! Between you and my brother he'll end up being far too pampered!" Python said, starting to grow legitimately worried.
Amaterasu waved her hand. "Oh no, you can't ask me to do that. As this child's aunt it's practically an obligation," she said. Python sighed and scratched his head, and Kyu looked amused. "I should start with the first gift now." Python and Kyu both looked confused as she leaned down and then kissed his forehead.
They felt a strange magic, and Kitstune's eyes went wide and began glowing. After a few moments the light in his eyes died down and vanished, and he looked rather confused. "I've blessed you with the gift of fire, little one. Now anyone who tries to do you harm will face the wrath of the sun's flames," she explained.
Kyu looked a bit concerned. "Is that really alright? Won't Oberon have a problem with you giving away such power?" she asked. She knew Oberon himself probably didn't care, but the other gods would throw a fit if they knew that she bestowed something like that to a titan.
Amaterasu hummed and looked towards her. "Oh? And since what do I care what that wayward man thinks?" she asked standing up. "Have you both forgotten that I am the sun? You can't order it when to rise and set, and you can't tell it who and who not to bestow its power upon."
Kyu clicked her tongue. Yes, that was Amaterasu. When she came to a decision no one could tell her otherwise. For better or worse. Thankfully it was more often than not for the former. "Well, if you insist. I'm very grateful for the gift." It wasn't like they were going to broadcast his abilities on earth anyway.
Python nodded. "That goes for the both of us. It'll make me rest easier knowing some part of you will be watching over him," he said.
Amaterasu turned towards him and hummed. "You know, given how you looked at me when we first met that's quite the turnaround." Python flinched, remembering just how tense and distrusting he had been towards her at first. He just hadn't been used to being around gods.
"T-that was a long time ago…"
"Oh, I know. To think I had thought about slaughtering you where you stood," Amaterasu said laughing. Python looked surprised while Kyu flinched.
"You said she liked me…"
"I was just trying to smooth things over."
Amaterasu waved her hand again. "I'd heard rumors about your brother and thought you might be some ghastly pervert trying to corrupt my younger sister. Of course I was weary. But you've treated her right, and deliver this little bundle of joy to me. So I'm quite glad I listened to Kyu and waited," she said.
"Thank you for not killing me?" Python said, looking confused.
"You're welcome."
Kitsune held his hands up again and stuck his tongue out. They all looked down at him with a smile, until he suddenly shot a small black ball of fire from his hands. Amaterasu moved her head to the side and avoided it, and then looked back at him. "Oh my…" Kyu said, rubbing her chin. "Are the flames supposed to be black?"
"No, no they are not," Amaterasu answered. "That's rather odd…"
Python looked rather intrigued. "Well, maybe it's dark magic? I always had a talent for it, and it wouldn't be shocking for him to as well. If your gift was mixed with it then…"
"Then he's going to grow up to be rather dangerous," Amaterasu said, smirking. "Oh, my little present has turned out to be far more interesting than intended."
Python narrowed his eyes. "I'm glad you find our son possibly becoming an even bigger target than he already is amusing…"
She waved him off. "Come now, no need to fret over something so trivial. It's not as if it's going to be to his detriment," she said, looking back down at the boy. "Besides, I'll not have a single hair on his head harmed. He could kill Oberon himself and there wouldn't be a single repercussion, because I'm his aunt."
"That's much appreciated, but why did you jump straight to murder?" Python asked.
"Why not?"
"Hey mom! Mom, look!"
Kyu sipped from her cup of tea as she looked over towards where her son's voice was calling from. "Well, someone sounds excited. What's got you so happy with my little kit?" she asked sweetly.
The toddler held up two items above his head. "Look what I got!"
Kyu hummed and looked up at the items in questions, and then her eyes went wide. She nearly spit out her tea, but covered her mouth and managed to swallow it down. "W-what in the world?! Are those divine blades?!" They were swords certainly, which was bad enough, but the aura coming off of them.
Yes, she recognized them both.
The Ame no Ohabari and the Kogitsunemaru! They were two of the most legendary blades in the Japanese pantheon's arsenal! "Where did you get those?!" she asked, quickly standing up and making her way towards him.
Kitsune laughed as he jumped up and down. "Auntie Ama gave them to me! She said since I'm going to be a great warrior I should have divine blades! I think she gave them to me because I told her about how uncle Ty let me have that giant club," he said excitedly. "Do you think if I play it right they'll keep getting me stuff to try and one up each other?"
Kyu sighed and reached down, taking the sword from him. "I think that maybe we should wait until you're a bit older to start using and training with these. Honestly, what was she thinking," she said, shaking her head. Amaterasu really could go too far when it came to spoiling this boy sometimes.
Kitsune frowned. "Aw, but I wanna cut stuff."
"You can cut stuff when you're older. For now stick to punching things."
Kitsune pouted and crossed his arms. "Fine…"
Typhon suddenly landed down near the two, a smile on his face. "Hello there boy, I heard that your aunt dropped off a little gift for you. So I thought-"
"Take it back," Kyu said, not even letting him finish.
Typhon frowned. "You don't even know what it is!"
"I know It's not something a child should have. Take it back, go on," she said, giving him a shooing motion. Typhon opened his mouth to argue for a moment, but then just grunted and turned around before taking off again. He could just give it to him later when his mother wasn't around. He could not be upstaged by that sun goddess.
After he left, Kitstune turned back towards her mother. "I could do it, mother. A never ending cycle of gifts. I could pull it off," he said.
Kyu clicked her tongue. "I don't doubt it…"
A/N: An introduction to Amaterasu, and a little look into the past! Kitsune was the most spoiled child in all of mewni! Between his aunt and uncle there was pretty much a new gift for him every week!
