Author's Note: Hey, guys! Here we are with the second duel of the mini tournament between the two best Obelisk girls, so let's jump right in! See ya at the bottom!
The arena was abuzz with excitement. The crowd was eagerly waiting for the next duel to begin, especially after such an amazing first match between Jaden and Bastion.
Alexis and Jaden had finally returned, with the former taking her spot at one side of the platform, waiting to be called up, while the latter found a free spot between Syrus and Bastion in the stands.
"This will be an intense match! I can feel it!" Syrus said excitedly.
"Indeed." Bastion nodded. "Both are the best Obelisks in our year. It will be quite the duel."
"Are you ready for the second match of the day?!" Crowler asked enthusiastically, getting the crowd pumped up. "This match is between our very own Obelisk girls!" He said proudly. "First off, she's the daughter of our Academy's very owner, Erina Kaiba!" He gestured to his right.
The crowd exploded as the bluenette stepped onto the platform with a determined look on her face. A small smile did appear on her face when she heard her friends louder than anyone else.
"And from this side, we have the Queen of Obelisk Blue, Alexis Rhodes!" Crowler gestured to his left.
Alexis took her spot on the platform and waved to the crowd as they cheered for her.
"So, who are we cheering for?" Yubel asked as she watched Jaden whistle with his fingers.
"Do you really have to ask?" He rolled his eyes as he sat back down. Like it was a question worth asking.
"Of course not." She chuckled. It was obvious to her. He would be cheering for both of them to do their best. Both held a special spot in his heart and it wouldn't be fair if he picked sides. 'A diplomat in this life as well, huh?' She mused silently.
"Duelists come to the middle and shuffle your opponent's deck!" Crowler gestured to the center of the arena.
"Got your pick-me-up?" Erina asked innocently as she took the blonde's deck.
"What do you mean?" Alexis asked back, taking the bluenette's deck in her hands and began shuffling it.
Erina just cocked an eyebrow at her, giving her a knowing look as she kept shuffling.
"T-That's-" Alexis cleared her throat, keeping her composure. She got the message clearly. "We didn't do anything like that."
"Sure~" The bluenette drew out the word and giggled. "One last thing before we start?" She held up her opponent's deck.
"What is it?" The blonde handed back the deck and took her own.
"Don't hold back." Erina warned in a serious tone before she turned around.
Crowler waited for the two girls to get back in position before he raised his arms above his head. "Let the second match begin!" He said before jumping off the stage.
"Let's duel!" Both girls said as their Duel Disks sparked to life and drew their starting hands.
Erina: 4000
Alexis: 4000
"I'll begin this duel!" Erina said as she drew her card, smirking once she saw what it was. "I play Foolish Burial! This card sends one monster from my deck to the Graveyard, so I'll be sending Lightpulsar Dragon." Erina sent the card to her Graveyard and it began to glow. "Now I activate his effect! By discarding one Light and one Dark Attribute monster from my hand, I can Special Summon it back to the field!"
Erina removed the two cards from her hand and a bright light flashed on the field. The light subsided, revealing a white dragon with red eyes and a blue ball of energy in its chest that pulsed like a heart. (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 1500)
"A 2500 attack points monster on the first turn?" Bastion gasped. "Erina isn't holding back."
Jaden chuckled. "Yeah, and knowing her there's more to this play."
"But wait, there's more." The bluenette said, confirming Jaden's suspicion, as she held up one of the cards she sent to the Graveyard. It was a white and black wyvern with a solar eclipse behind it. "When Eclipse Wyvern is sent to the Graveyard, I can banish one Level seven or higher Light or Dark dragon from my deck. Then, when Eclipse Wyvern is banished, I get to add that dragon to my hand."
Erina then showed the card. "I'll be banishing Chaos Dragon Levianeer." She pocketed the card. "With that I end my turn. Now, make your move."
Alexis felt slightly uneasy as she stared at the dragon before her. "She wasn't kidding about not holding back yesterday." She could feel that crushing aura coming off of her again, but this time it felt even stronger. This time Erina was taking her opponent seriously. This was her dueling at full power. 'Do all Kaibas have this intimidating aura during a duel?' She asked herself.
She took a few steady breaths, shaking off the jitters before she began her move. "Here I go!" She drew her card. She plucked another card from her hand and played it. "I activate Pre-Preparation of Rites!" A Spell Card appeared on the field, illustrating a bird stuffing itself with food. "With this card I get to add a Ritual Spell from my deck and the Ritual Monster that's listed on it!" She explained as she took the cards out of her deck. "I'll be adding Saffira. Queen of Dragons and Hymn of Light to my hand!"
"I now activate Hymn of Light!" Alexis inserted the card and the field began to change into the interior of a golden church. "I offer my Level six Cyber Angel Benten as tribute to Ritual Summon Saffira, Queen of Dragons!" The soft hymn of a choir could be heard as holy light shone on Benten, who was kneeling in prayer in the middle of the field. She disappeared suddenly and in her place appeared a humanoid dragon. She had shining silver scales, soft wings that were transparent, like a vail, and golden horns. (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 2400)
"Isn't that one of the cards you gave her?" Yubel asked as she got a better look at the dragon.
"Yeah." Jaden grinned, getting this warm feeling in his chest for some reason. "It works perfectly in a deck like hers."
"And since Benten was Tributed, I can add one Light Fairy monster from my deck to my hand." Alexis explained as she added Idaten to her hand.
She then placed another card on her Disk. "I'll also summon Etoile Cyber in attack mode!" The ribbon dancer appeared next to her dragon. (ATK: 1200/ DEF: 1600)
"Now, Saffira, attack Lightpulsar Dragon with Holy Flame!" Alexis ordered and the dragon unleashed a white flame from her mouth.
"If you insist, Lightpulsar Dragon, counterattack!" Erina's dragon roared, firing a blue stream of energy from its chest, causing both attacks to clash against each other.
"Wait, they have the same attack points!" Bastion exclaimed. "They'll both be destroyed!"
"Wait for it…" Jaden said as Saffira began to overpower the white dragon.
"What?!" Erina gasped in surprise as the white flame consumed her dragon, destroying it. "But, how?" She questioned, covering her face from the flames that hit her field. "Both of them should've been destroyed!"
"True, but Hymn of Light says otherwise." Alexis smiled as the card popped out of her Graveyard and she took it. "If any of my Ritual Monsters would be destroyed by battle or card effects, I can banish this card from my Graveyard instead."
"That was a smart play." Syrus smiled.
"Yes, and now Erina is wide open for a direct attack." Bastion noted.
"Not quite." Jaden said, confusing the two.
"You're not the only one with surprises, Lex." Erina smirked, which puzzled the blonde until she saw that the blue orb that was inside the dragon's chest was still on the field.
"What?" She asked when the orb suddenly turned orange and began to pulse.
"When Lightpulsar Dragon is sent from the field to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon one level 5 or higher Dark dragon from my Graveyard!" Erina explained as the orb began to shine brighter. "Come forth, Darkflare Dragon!"
The light died down, revealing a black and red dragon with four wings, no arms and the orange core inside its chest. (ATK: 2400/ DEF: 1200)
"That's so cool!" Chumley had stars in his eyes when he saw the dragon. He loved all of the cards in Erina's deck; they all looked amazing.
"And its effect is pretty cool as well." Jaden added. "Erina can send two dragons, one from her hand and one from her deck, to banish one card in either Graveyard."
"Quite powerful…" Bastion rubbed his chin. "She can trigger her Eclipse Wyvern's effect now or she can banish Machine Angel Ritual when it hits the Graveyard, because if memory serves me right, it has a similar Graveyard effect as Hymn of Light."
"I set one card and end my turn." Alexis inserted a card into her Disk. "And now Saffira's effect activates! When she's summoned, or when a Light monster is sent from my deck or hand to the Graveyard, I can activate one of her effects!" The blonde explained. "I'll be using her first effect; allowing me to draw two cards then discard one!" She drew two cards and sent one to the Graveyard.
"My, this is quite the intense start." Banner chuckled as he rubbed Pharaoh's head. "Any favorites, Fonda?" He asked his colleague, who was intently watching the duel.
"Please, Lyman, both are equal in my eyes! I don't pick favorites among my girls." She said, looking slightly offended. "Who do you take me for, Crowler?"
"Of course not…" He chuckled. "Just curious, that's all."
"My turn!" Erina drew her card and played it. "I activate Pot of Greed!" She drew her cards and smirked. Her Field Spell zone opened and she placed a card inside it. "Time we take this duel to a different dimension! I activate the Field Spell, Chaos Zone!"
Alexis watched as if reality around her began to warp and distort. "What's going on?" She asked as she looked around. It was like they were moving through a blue wavy tunnel.
"This is the space between dimensions." Erina gestured around her. "This is where my Chaos monsters reside. For now, all you should know is each time a monster is banished, it gains a Chaos Counter."
"Now, I activate Darkflare Dragon's effect!" The bluenette declared. "By sending a dragon from both my hand and deck to the Graveyard, I can banish one card from either of our Graveyards!" She explained.
She sent the two cards and the dragon roared, forcing Eclipse Wyvern to exit the Graveyard. "You remember the card I removed, don't you?" Erina smirked. "I can now add it to my hand!" She took the card from her pocket as a giant blue vortex appeared above them.
"What's that?" Alexis asked.
"The first Chaos Counter." Erina smirked. "But, you have more pressing issues to worry about right now! Prepare yourself!" She slapped a card on her Disk. "I banish one Dark and two Light monsters to summon one of the most powerful dragons in existence!" Lightpulsar Dragon, Black Dragon Collapserpent and Dragon Knight of Creation popped out of her Graveyard as a giant, gray and black portal opened above the field.
"Tremble before chaos itself! Behold, Chaos Dragon Levianeer!" Moments later, a colossal dragon emerged from it, landing behind Erina, unleashing a powerful roar that shook the arena. The dragon was of a silver color, a glowing cyan stone on its chest, menacing purple eyes and cyan energy flowing through its wings and the horn on its head. (ATK: 3000/ DEF: 0)
Three more vortexes opened around the field.
"Such a rare and powerful monster!" Bastion exclaimed as he stared wide eyed at the monster.
Erina chuckled as she saw the terrified expression on Alexis' face. "He's even scarier than you think. If Levianeer is summoned with both Dark and Light monsters, he destroys two cards on the field!" She revealed with a smirk. "So, say goodbye to Saffira and that facedown of yours!" The dragon roared as its horn began to crackle with energy, unleashing cyan bolts of unstable lightning that struck Alexis' cards.
Erina smiled when she saw the facedown, which was Negate Attack, get destroyed, but frowned when she saw that Saffira was still standing for some reason.
Alexis breathed a sigh of relief as a card rolled out of her Graveyard. "Thanks to Machine Angel Ritual's Graveyard effect, when one of my Light monsters would be destroyed, I can banish it instead."
The bluenette scoffed. "Fine, you can keep her for another turn, but not Etoile Cyber!" She pointed at the ribbon dancer. "Darkflare Dragon, destroy her!" The dragon roared as its core began to glow, shooting a beam of orange energy that incinerated Alexis' monster.
Alexis: 3200
"Levianeer cannot attack the turn he uses his effect." Erina said as she inserted a card into her Disk. "Consider yourself lucky."
"I draw!" Alexis drew her card. "I summon Cyber Petit Angel!" The small pink fairy appeared on the field. (ATK: 300/ DEF: 200) "And when she's summoned, I get to add Cyber Angel Dakini to my hand!" She explained as a card popped out of her deck.
'It's time I try this card out , Jaden.' Alexis looked at a particular card in her hand. It was probably one of the strongest cards in her deck right now. She took another one from her hand and inserted it into her Disk. "I activate Machine Angel Ritual!" The stone fire pit appeared in the field. "I offer my Level two Cyber Petit Angel and my Level six Saffira to Ritual Summon Cyber Angel Dakini!" The two monsters turned to energy and flew into the fire pit, igniting it.
A moment later, the fire went out, revealing Alexis' Cyber Angel. She was a blue skinned, four armed female; an orange breastplate protected her chest and a yellow headdress that covered her head and red hair. She held three weapons in her arms: a saber, a katana and a staff. (ATK: 2700/ DEF: 2400)
Alexis smirked. "When Cyber Angel Dakini is Ritual Summoned, she forces my opponent to send one monster they control to the Graveyard!"
Erina grit her teeth. "Alright, I'll be removing Darkflare Dragon from my field." She said as the dragon disappeared.
"Now, Dakini, attack Levianeer!" Alexis ordered and her Cyber Angel leapt high into the air.
"Are you insane?!" Erina questioned. "My dragon is stronger than her!" She pointed out the obvious, but gasped when she saw the smirk Alexis had.
"Hate to break it to you, but no he's not! I activate Honest's effect from my hand!" The blonde declared as she discarded the card. Honest was a male angel with long, wavy blond hair, white angelic wings, and blue robes. "By discarding him, I add Levianeer's 3000 attack points to Dakini's till the end of this turn!" She explained as a pair of feathered wings appeared on Dakini's back. (ATK: 2700-5700)
"Alright, she used it!" Jaden pumped his fist in the air.
"Where'd she get a card like that?" Bastion gasped in surprise. Honest was a rare card that wasn't easy to get ahold of.
"From me!" Jaden grinned as he pointed at himself. "I got it from a pack a while back, but since I can't really use it, I gave it to her as a gift." He said, returning back to the duel. He was super pumped to finally see that card in action.
"I activate my trap card, Defense Draw!" Erina said as her facedown flipped over. "This card reduces the Battle Damage from this attack to zero and allows me to draw one card!" She explained as she drew her extra card.
"Okay, but your monster is still destroyed!" Alexis said as Dakini brought her sword down on Levianeer, slicing him in two.
"With this I end my turn." The blonde said as a facedown appeared in front of her feet. "And since it's the End Phase, Dakini's effect activates. I can add back to my hand a Ritual Monster or Machine Angel Ritual from my Graveyard." She explained as she added back her Machine Angel Ritual and Dakini's attack reverted back to normal. (ATK: 5700-2700)
"Man, Erina isn't letting Alexis get even so much as a scratch in." Chumley said, amazed by the level of play being displayed by both of them.
"Yeah." Jaden chuckled. "And it's frustrating Alexis a lot."
"Huh, what do you mean?" Syrus asked.
"Alexis doesn't want to waste time in this duel. She wants to end this as quickly as possible, because the further they progress into the duel, the stronger Erina gets." Jaden explained.
Bastion nodded along, getting what Jaden was saying. "You're right… The more the duel drags out, the more resources Erina will have to bring out her monsters and that spells trouble for Alexis." He then looked at the portals above them. "Plus, she still doesn't know what that Field Spell does that's looming over her. She's definitely feeling the pressure."
"My turn!" Erina drew her card and an evil grin appeared on her face. "This might be the end, Lex!"
"What?" The blonde took a step back in shock.
"I activate the Spell Card, Chaos Space!" She inserted the card. "By sending White Dragon Wyverburster from my hand to the Graveyard, I get to add a Dark monster that can't be Normal Summoned or Set from my deck!" The bluenette explained as she added the card to her hand.
"Now, I banish Darkflare Dragon and White Dragon Collapserpent from my Graveyard to summon Chaos Daedalus!" Two more vortexes appeared in the sky as a black sea serpent with four red, glaring eyes appeared on the field. (ATK: 2600/ DEF: 1500) "And his effect is just as deadly as his looks. While there is a Field Spell active on the field, Chaos Daedalus banishes one card you control!"
Alexis gasped as the serpent shot out a ball of purple energy from its mouth that removed Dakini from the field.
"And now it's time you learn what my Field Spell does!" Erina smirked. "I remove all the Chaos Counters it has to Special Summon one of my banished monsters with an equal Level to them!"
"That's six… Wait, that means-!" Alexis' eyes widened as the six vortexes merged into one.
"That's right! Appear once again, Lightpulsar Dragon!" The white dragon fell from the portal, landing next to the serpent. (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 1500)
"Lightpulsar Dragon, attack Alexis directly!" Erina yelled and her dragon fired a blue energy blast from the core on its chest.
"She has over 4000 damage on her field!" Syrus gasped. "If this goes through, Alexis is done for!"
'Come on…' Jaden watched anxiously, hoping that his girlfriend's facedown card could save her.
"I activate the Trap Card, Half or Nothing!" Alexis shouted and her facedown flipped over, displaying the Judge Man holding a hatchet in one hand and a golden battle axe in the other. "This card either ends the Battle Phase immediately or it lowers the attack points of all monsters you control in half until the end of the Battle Phase!" She explained. "You choose which effect is applied."
Erina scowled. "Halve the attack of my monsters!" She chose and her monsters were weakened. (ATK: 2500-1250) (ATK: 2600-1300)
The attack still connected with the blonde, who raised her hands to protect herself.
Alexis: 1950
"Alexis…" The bluenette grit her teeth. "You won't stop me from winning this duel no matter what you do! So, just get out of my way!" She threw her arm forward. "Chaos Daedalus, crush her!" The sea serpent unleashed a stream of purple energy, hitting Alexis and knocking her to the ground from the impact.
Alexis: 650
Erina's monsters reverted back to full power. (ATK: 1250-2500) (ATK: 1300-2600) "I end my turn!" She said as she inserted a card into her Disk, ignoring the loud cheers from the crowd.
'Damn it, she's relentless…' Alexis slowly sat up, a look of defeat on her face. She was frustrated with herself. She was dueling her best, but it wasn't good enough. She hasn't managed to get even a scratch in!
She set out today to prove to herself that there wasn't a gap between them, that her skills were equal to Erina's, but there was and it was honestly disheartening seeing how big it actually was. But, even with that in mind she had to keep going, she still had to try. Although… whatever she does is probably going to fail again…
'No!' She shook her head. She couldn't think like that! Sure, it seemed impossible, but she wasn't one to back down from a challenge. She hasn't made a single misplay all duel. She's been dueling perfectly in fact, it's just that her opponent was better than her.
'Alright, Alexis, you can do this…' The blonde took a deep breath and rose to her feet, surging with determination. She's worked hard to get to this point and wasn't about to throw in the towel.
"Good, I thought you were about to give up."
"Huh?" She blinked in surprise, looking at Erina, who had this look in her eyes… Was that sympathy? "Are you kidding?" Alexis smirked. "I'm not backing down no matter what!"
The bluenette chuckled. "That's what I like hearing. Alright…" She pointed at herself with her thumb, a smirk on her face. "Show me why you're one of the best!"
'Alright, deck, I need a really good draw!' Alexis thought as she placed her fingers on her deck. "Here I go!" She picked up her card. "I activate Card of Sanctity! Now we both draw until we hold six cards!" They both drew their cards, with Alexis smirking once she saw what she drew.
"I activate Machine Angel Ritual!" The blonde said as the fire pit appeared once again. "I offer the Level five Cyber Tutubon from my hand as Tribute to summon Cyber Angel Natasha!" A girl with green hair, wearing an outfit closely like Cyber Tutu's appeared on the field. Only this one was bright pink and lime green, had a puffier, pink, skirt and small angelic wings on the back.
The girl turned into green energy and flew into the fire pit, igniting it. After a few moments the fire died down, revealing a female centaur with four arms, four eyes and short silver hair. The humanoid part of her was wearing gold armor that protected her chest and both of her right arms, and a red and blue cape fluttered from her shoulders. A golden face mask also covered her face and she held a red flogging whip. (ATK: 1000/ DEF: 1000)
Erina frowned; a Ritual Monster with low attack meant it had a powerful effect.
"When Cyber Tutubon is Tributed for a Ritual Summon, I can add back to my hand one Ritual Spell from my Graveyard!" Alexis explained as she added back Machine Angel Ritual.
"Now, I Tribute Natasha to activate Merciful Machine Angel!" The centauride disappeared as Alexis inserted her card. "By Tributing one Cyber Angel from my hand or field; this card allows me to draw two cards, but I have to place one card from my hand on the bottom of my deck!" She explained as she drew her cards. It took her a moment before she decided what to return to her deck.
"What is Alexis doing?" Syrus asked. "She summoned a monster only to get rid of it?"
"I… Don't know either." Jaden admitted. He didn't really know how Alexis' deck worked, but he was certain she had a plan.
Alexis smirked as her Graveyard began to glow. "I activate Cyber Angel Natasha's Graveyard effect! I can banish one Cyber Angel from my Graveyard to Special Summon her and take control of one of your monsters!" She explained as she pocketed Benten and Natasha reappeared on the field. (ATK: 1000/ DEF: 1000)
"And the monster I'll be taking is your Chaos Daedalus!" The sea serpent exploded into gold particles and reformed on Alexis' side of the field.
"She took her monster!" Chumley gasped.
"Yes, and now she can use its effect to banish Erina's other monster." Bastion noted.
"Wow!" Jaden smiled. 'She really is something.' He thought fondly. It was a very impressive move.
"Now, I'll be using Chaos Daedalus' effect to banish Lightpulsar Dragon!" Alexis pointed at the dragon and the sea serpent began to charge the purple energy in its mouth.
"I'm not letting you do that!" Erina pressed a button on her Disk and a tornado appeared on the field. "I'll use Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Chaos Zone!" The tornado continued to expand, wrapping itself around the entire field before the Field Spell shattered like glass.
Alexis scowled as the sea serpent's charge dissipated. "Okay, I can still attack with him! Chaos Daedalus, attack Lightpulsar Dragon!" The sea serpent screeched as it fired a stream of purple energy, destroying the dragon.
Erina: 3900
Alexis smiled slightly; it might be just 100 Life Points, but it was still something.
"Lightpulsar Dragon's effect activates! I get to Special Summon a Level five or higher Dark dragon from my Graveyard!" Erina said as a card came out of her Disk. "Appear once again, Chaos Dragon Levianeer!" The silver dragon reappeared on the field, roaring fiercely. (ATK: 3000/ DEF: 0)
"I set this card facedown." A card appeared in front of Alexis' feet. "Then, I'll use Natasha's effect to gain back half of Chaos Daedalus' attack points as Life Points." She explained as the sea serpent was enveloped in a golden aura before it flew into Alexis.
Alexis: 1950
'Nice!' Jaden smiled. Alexis was now officially back in the game.
"My turn now!" Erina drew her card. "I activate the Spell Card, Offerings to the Divine Dragons!" She inserted the card, which illustrated Divine Knight of Creation holding up a basket of religious offerings to a statue of Felgrand. "I activate this card by discarding two cards from my hand!" She sent the cards to the Graveyard. "Now, I get to add one Dragon Lord monster to my hand, banish it or send it to the Graveyard!" She explained as a card popped out of her deck and she held it up. "I'll be sending Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand to the Graveyard, and you know what that means, right?"
Alexis' eyes widened. "You're gonna summon it back!" She realized.
"That's right!" Erina smirked. "I activate Return of the Dragon Lords! Now, rise, Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand!" The ground behind her split open and her golden dragon rose, landing behind the bluenette. (ATK: 2800/ DEF: 2800)
"And since he was summoned from the Graveyard, I get to banish one monster from your field or Graveyard, and Felgrand gains 100 attack and defense points for each level that monster has! And I'll be banishing Chaos Daedalus!" Felgrand unleashed a deafening roar which caused the sea serpent to burst into pixels. (ATK: 2800-3500/ DEF: 2800-3500)
"Felgrand, destroy Natasha! Divine God Burst!" Erina ordered and her dragon roared, firing a stream of golden flames.
"I activate Natasha's effect!" Alexis said. "When a Ritual Monster I control is targeted for an attack, I can negate it!" She explained as a golden barrier appeared around the Cyber Angel, protecting her from the flames.
"Alright, how about this then!" The bluenette threw her arm forward. "Levianeer, attack! Chaos Nebula!" The silver dragon charged his horn, forming a ball of black, gray and white energy, firing it towards Alexis' Cyber Angel.
"I activate Machine Angel Salvation!" Alexis said, flipping over her facedown. It was a Trap Card illustrating Cyber Angel Dakini ascending to the heavens with her arms outstretched. "I return one Cyber Angel I control to my hand and end the Battle Phase!" She explained as Natasha turned to light and left the field. "Then, my opponent takes damage equal to half the attacking monster's attack points!"
The Chaos Nebula hit a golden barrier that appeared in front of Alexis' field and bounced back towards Erina, hitting her as she raised her arms to shelf herself.
Erina: 2400
"Nice one!" Both Jaden and Syrus exclaimed, raising their fists in the air.
Erina lowered her arms. "I activate Chaos Space from my Graveyard!" She said as her Graveyard began to glow. "I first banish it to target one of my banished Light or Dark monsters that can't be Normal Summoned or Set and place it on the bottom of my deck." She held up Black Dragon Collapserpent. "And then I get to draw one card." She placed back her card and picked up the top one.
"It's your move now." She said as three cards appeared in front of her feet.
"Here I go!" Alexis drew her card and looked at it. She smiled, this fixed her hand. "I begin by activating Machine Angel Ritual!" The fire pit emerged from the ground once again. "I offer the Level five Cyber Angel Natasha and the Level six Cyber Angel Idaten from my hand as Tribute to Ritual Summon Cyber Angel Izana!" The two Cyber Angels turned to energy, flying into and lighting the fire pit. The fire died out after a moment, revealing a new Cyber Angel.
She was a fair skinned, four armed woman with long blonde and white hair flowing down her back. She wore blue armor that covered her chest, shoulders and hips, along with blue and gold gloves and boots. Behind her back floated a pearly white lotus, giving her a more divine appearance. She jumped down, landing next to Alexis and brandished her weapons; a jewel encrusted hatchet and a golden tipped trident. (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 2600)
"And since I Tributed Idaten, Izana gains an extra 1000 attack and defense!" Alexis revealed as her monster was enveloped by a white aura for a moment. (ATK: 2500-3500/ DEF: 2600-3600)
"But that's not all! When Izana is Ritual Summoned, she forces you to remove one Spell or Trap card from your field!"
Erina scowled, picking one of her cards and revealing it before she sent it to the Graveyard.
"Drowning Mirror Force?!" Bastion gasped.
"What does that do?" Syrus asked after seeing the shocked look on the Ra's face.
"It shuffles all attack position monsters your opponent controls back into the deck when a direct attack is declared." He explained, now shocking Syrus and Chumley.
"But why would she send that one?" The portly boy questioned. "She had a guaranteed defense against Alexis with it!"
"I don't know, but those other facedowns must be really important for her to throw such a powerful trap away…"
Jaden just kept silent throughout their conversation. He was wondering what his best friend could have in store for his girlfriend, because knowing her, that Trap was just a decoy meant to throw her opponent for a loop.
"I can now play this!" She inserted the card. "Card of Demise! Now I draw until I hold five cards, but have to discard my entire hand during my fifth Standby Phase."
'Yeah, we'll be done before that.' Erina thought as she watched the blonde pick up her cards.
Alexis nodded slightly as she scanned her hand and looked up. "Alright, Izana, attack Levianeer!" She pointed at the dragon and the Cyber Angel jumped forward, driving her trident in the dragon's chest and destroying it.
Erina: 1900
"If Izana destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, she gets to attack one of your monsters again!" Alexis revealed. "Izana, attack Felgrand!" She ordered and the Angel charged forward as Felgrand unleashed a stream of golden flames.
"I activate Return of the Dragon Lords from my Graveyard!" Erina said as she pulled the card out of her Graveyard. "By banishing it, Felgrand isn't destroyed!"
"And I'll be activating Machine Angel Ritual from my Graveyard as well!" Alexis smirked. "Now Izana isn't destroyed either!"
The two monsters clashed, causing an explosion followed by a big smoke cloud.
"I set two cards and end my turn." Alexis inserted the card as the smoke cloud cleared out.
"My turn! I draw!" Erina drew her card. "I activate my Trap Card, Tyrant Wing!" Felgrand's wings began to shine brightly. "This gives Felgrand an extra attack against your monsters on top of a 400 point boost!" (ATK: 3500-3900/ DEF: 3500-3900)
"Now, Felgrand, destroy Izana! Divine God Burst!" The dragon roared, unleashing his golden flames.
"I activate my Trap, Half Counter!" Alexis said. "Now Izana gains half of Felgrand's attack until the End Phase!"
"This is gonna hurt!" Syrus said.
"I don't think so!" Erina said, inserting a card from her hand into her Disk. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Divine God Burst!" The card appeared on the field, illustrating Felgrand charging his signature attack.
"Felgrand has a signature attack card?" Alexis gasped.
"That's right!" The bluenette smirked. "This card negates and banishes one Spell or Trap card on your field!" She explained as Alexis' card turned gray and disappeared. "Good try though." She chuckled.
The attack connected, engulfing the Cyber Angel in flames as it destroyed her.
Alexis: 1550
"And now, Felgrand's effect activates!" She said as golden particles began to fall from the dragon's wings. "When he destroys a monster in battle, I get to Special Summon a Level seven or eight dragon from my Graveyard!" She said as Levianeer began to materialize.
"I won't let that happen!" Alexis said as her facedown flipped over, displaying a Trap Card with a ghoul falling down a hole. "Bottomless Trap Hole! When you summon a monster with 1500 or more attack points; this card destroys and banishes it!"
A hole appeared beneath the dragon, swallowing it whole before it closed.
"During the End Phase, if a monster equipped with Tyrant Wing has battled, it gets destroyed." Erina explained as the Trap Card shattered, lowering Felgrand's stats. (ATK: 3900-3500/ DEF: 3900-3500)
"That was close." Jaden sighed in relief. "Good thing Alexis was prepared."
"My turn now!" Alexis drew her card. "I begin by summoning Cyber Petit Angel!" The tiny pink fairy appeared on the field. (ATK: 300/ DEF: 200) "And thanks to her effect, I'll be adding another Cyber Angel Benten to my hand!" She added it to her hand.
"I now equip my Cyber Petit Angel with the Equip Spell, Execution of the Contract!" A card appeared on the field, illustrating a group of people performing a ritual. "I reveal a Ritual Monster from my hand and Cyber Petit Angel's Level becomes the same as that monster's!" She explained, revealing Benten.
"Now she can summon Benten if she has another Ritual Spell!" Syrus realized.
"Yes, but what are the chances she drew her third one?" Bastion said skeptically.
"I play Machine Angel Ritual!"
"I say very high." Jaden laughed.
The fire pit appeared once again. "I'll be offering my now Level Six Cyber Petit Angel as Tribute to summon Cyber Angel Benten!" She as her Petite Angel turned into energy and lit the fire. The warrior Angel jumped out of the fire, landing next to Alexis. (ATK: 1800/ DEF: 1500)
"And now for the Equip Spell…" Alexis smirked.
Erina tilted her head, wondering what she was talking about until a pink rune circle appeared beneath Felgrand and exploded, taking down the dragon.
"What the hell?!" The bluenette was shocked.
"When the monster equipped with Execution of the Contract is Tributed, this Equip Spell destroys one monster on your field!" She explained as she took another card from her hand. "And now for another Equip Spell! Ritual Weapon!" A golden gauntlet with a crossbow on it appeared on Benten's arm. "This raises Benten's attack and defense points by 1500!" She explained. (ATK: 1800-3300/ DEF: 1500-3000)
"Alexis is going to win!" Syrus jumped from his seat.
"No way!" Bastion exclaimed in shock.
"This duel is over, Erina! I win!" Alexis smirked. "Benten, attack her directly! Holy Magic Arrow!" Benten fired a golden arrow straight at her.
Jaden stared in amazement as he watched the arrow fly across the field. His girlfriend got the win? That was awesome! But, Erina looked way too relaxed for someone about to lose. "Wait!" He jumped from his seat when he noticed it. "She still has a Trap Card!"
Erina chuckled. "You are right about one thing, Lex. This duel is over, but I'm the winner!" She shouted as a male figure made out of bluish-white crystal intercepted the arrow before it hit her. (ATK: ?/ DEF: 0)
"What?" Alexis gasped.
"A Trap Monster!" Bastion realized.
"But why's it undefined?" Syrus wondered.
"When a direct attack would otherwise be fatal, Krystal Avatar gains my Life Points as attack points and intercepts it." She explained. (ATK: ?-1900)
The arrow pierced through the avatar, breaking him into tiny shards and hitting Erina through the chest.
Erina: 500
Erina grinned slightly. "Then, if he were to be destroyed, my opponent takes damage equal to his attack!" She revealed, causing the blonde to realize what that meant.
"I-I lost?" She said aloud as the shards that were still floating in the air suddenly rained down on her.
Alexis: 0
The crowd burst into cheers as the second duel came to an end. This was even better than the first one. They couldn't wait to see what the finale was going to be like now!
"We have a winner!" Crowler boomed over the microphone. "Erina Kaiba!"
Alexis dusted her skirt off and smiled. She tried her best, almost won even, but in the end Erina was still the better duelist. She didn't feel bad about it either, there was going to be a next time and she will be prepared for it.
"Whoa!" The blonde suddenly yelped when someone collided with her while she was spacing out.
"You did great!" Erina praised as she hugged her tight. She pulled away, smiled at her… and knocked her lightly over the head.
"Ow!" Alexis hissed, rubbing her head. "What was that about?"
"For being so stubborn!" The bluenette said. "Honestly…" She sighed. "If you wanted to get better, why didn't you tell me? I would've helped!"
The blonde was taken by surprise. "How did you know?"
Erina smiled at her. "Because, I had the same look you had earlier. You have no idea how long it took for me to finally be considered a challenge by my dad. It was a hard and frustrating thing to accomplish. He just kept beating me with such ease that it felt disheartening at times, but in the end I finally managed to prove that I was his equal in a duel. Jaden also helped a lot of course." She added, not wanting to discredit the help he provided. "Although, there's a big difference between us."
"What's that?"
"Unlike me, you don't want help from others." Erina smirked when she saw the face Alexis made. She nailed it on the head.
"Y-Yeah…?" Alexis admitted, knowing fully that her answer won't fly with her friend. "I'm just used to being independent."
"You're just as stubborn as I am…" The bluenette groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I get that doing things by yourself feels nice, but there are moments where having someone help you or even just support you makes things easier, you know?"
Alexis was silent for a moment, contemplating what Erina told her. Sure, having someone you could lean on for support does make things easier, but she's not really used to doing that. She's usually the one giving the support, while she herself keeps quiet even if things get overwhelming for her. But now? Now, she had people she could rely on, plus a boyfriend who she knew would be there for her. It wouldn't be easy, but she had to get used to it. "Yeah… I guess you're right." She smiled.
"Of course I am!" Erina laughed. "That's why I'm your senior!" She teased with a big grin on her face.
Alexis crossed her arms. "You're only a few months older than me. In no scenario does that make you my senior." She argued.
"Ah-ah-ah~" Erina waved her finger playfully. "You lost the duel, so you don't get a say in this." She tapped her chin pensively. "Hmm… wonder if I can make you call me 'Big Sis' from now on?"
"Absolutely not!" Alexis huffed, placing her hands on her hips. "I didn't agree to anything like that." She sounded slightly ticked off.
Erina snorted, not able to hold it in anymore as she began to giggle. "Sorry, your face was priceless." She apologized.
Alexis shook her head, but began to laugh as well.
"Way to play, guys!"
They turned to see their friends jump on stage, with Syrus holding up both hands for a high five, which the girls gladly gave him.
"This duel was awesome!" Chumley praised.
"You put up an amazing fight." Jaden said as he gave his girlfriend a quick embrace.
"Thanks." She smiled as they separated.
Sheppard stood up for his seat. "Splendid match, girls! Erina, you proceed to the finals and will face off against Jaden for the honor of representing our school."
Crowler stepped on stage, ready to make an announcement. "The final match will begin after a quick fifteen minute intermission-"
"No!" Erina interrupted. "We're starting this now!"
"Pardon?" Crowler was taken aback. "B-But, miss Kaiba, don't you want to take a quick break before the next match? Surely you must feel tired-"
"No, I've been waiting for this all day." She smirked, giving Jaden a challenging look. "I'm not waiting any longer. That is, if you don't need the break to prepare?"
"Nah, I'm good." Jaden mirrored her smirk. "Just don't blame it on exhaustion when you lose." He chuckled.
"Oh, it's on now!"
It was like a switch got flipped suddenly as the atmosphere changed. Everyone around them could practically feel it. The odd mix of tension and excitement that filled the air as the two stared each other down. Their Duel Spirits joined in on the staredown as well. Felgrand was glaring down at Yubel, who had a calm yet confident smirk on her face as her eyes bore through his soul.
One thing was blatantly obvious to everyone. This was going to be the duel of the day.
And that's a wrap for this duel.
Yeah, I added a few custom cards in here. For Cyber Angels I kinda have to make more cards because there are barely any in the game to begin with, and I want to make it so it looks like Alexis actually plays a 40 card deck.
As for Erina, well, the idea came from the fact I wanted to use Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, but couldn't because it would break the story due to it being connected with GX's big bad. So, next best thing is to make it a different card! That's when I decided to make the "Dragon Lord" archetype. It would bridge the gap between Felgrand and the Chaos cards. It won't be anything crazy, just a few cards for now. It would still mainly focus on Chaos, but I won't have to use the clunky cards.
Anyways, here are the cards:
Machine Angel Salvation
Normal Trap Card
When your opponent declares an attack: Return 1 "Cyber Angel" monster you control to your hand; End the Battle Phase, and if you do, your opponent takes damage equal to half of the attacking monster's ATK. /
Divine God Burst
Quick-Play Spell Card
If you control "Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand": Negate and Banish a Spell/Trap card your opponent controls. /
Offerings to the Divine Dragons
Normal Spell Card
Discard 2 cards; send one "Dragon Lord" monster from your deck to the GY, add it to your hand, or banish it. Banish this card from your GY; return 2 of your banished Dragon Monsters to the GY. You cannot activate this effect the same turn it was sent to the GY. /
And those are the cards. I'll see you guys next time for the conclusion of the Duell Off tournament! Oh, and united88, the answer to your question is maybe. Haven't really decided, but if I do do it, it will be later into the series.
Okay, now I'm done. Stay safe! Bye!
