A/N: Thank you all so much for your kind words! And I am SO sorry this has taken so long. I hope this makes up for that ;)
I have quite a strong idea for where I want the plot of this to go... except I haven't been known for much plot in the past. I'm more of a PWP kinda gal but let's see where I can take it.
An icy, cutting wind whipped through the trees of Stony Brook Park. Maura drew her coat tightly around her neck and picked her way carefully over the forest floor. She could hear Jane a few steps behind her, treading on dry branches that snapped beneath her boots. Their journey to the crime scene had been quiet and Jane had occasionally lazily stroked Maura's knee. It was a sweet gesture and yet it lit a fire inside the Medical Examiner that was wholly inappropriate for the situation they were about to enter.
Much to Jane's obvious annoyance, the first officer on the scene had been Eva. The young officer circled the area without so much as a word. Jane prickled and took a step closer to Maura who was already crouched beside the body of a woman in her mid-twenties.
"There are possible ligature marks around the neck and wrists, bruising around the eyes and lips…" Maura began her observations out loud. "I'll know more when I get her back, but based on my preliminary observations I am ruling this death suspicious."
Jane crouched beside her. It was unusual for the detective to get so close to Maura while she worked. Usually, Jane began to scope her scene first, looking for evidence and context. Her shoulder bumped against Maura's, drawing the Doctor out of her train of thought.
"It's a dump, Maur. There's no sign of a struggle here. No reddish brown stains in the leaves." She mused.
Maura nodded in agreement. Rising to her full height, she moved to the other side of the body and began to bag the hands and feet. She almost missed Jane's whisper,
"She looks like you…" came her quiet observation. Jane rubbed her hand over her eyebrows and down her face. She stood up and began her habitual sweep of the scene.
The lack of evidence saw her frustration build. With each passing minute, her footfall became heavier and her frown knotted tighter. She could feel the tension between her shoulder blades coiling like a spring. In her periphery she saw Eva approaching Maura. Instinct forced her feet and she headed back toward the body.
"I'm just saying, surely you have some idea? Can't you make a hypothesis? I though you were smart." Eva's sarcastic tone cut through the air. Maura didn't flinch and Jane knew that her barriers had shot up 10 feet tall. Those barriers that could intimidate her colleagues and which only Jane could truly dismantle.
The detective squared into Eva's space and watched the smirk fade from her face.
"Officer Sullivan, if I hear you speak to Dr Isles like that again, you will be out of homicide and into evidence management before you even realise that I kicked your ass down there. That is the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and you will afford her some respect." She spat the word respect and looked Eva up and down. Personal jealousy she could understand, Maura was beautiful and smart, but professional courtesy between colleagues was non negotiable for Jane.
It took Maura all of her well rehearsed self control to maintain a straight face. Jane's eyes were blazing and her finger prodded the air in front of the cowering young officer. The snarl in her voice caused it to drop an octave and the gravel of her tone reverberated in Maura's hips. She took a deep breath to ground herself and placed her hand lightly on Jane's bicep.
"Jane. I'm ready to move the body now." Maura said in a cool, measured voice.
By the time Maura had finished her notes, 9pm had passed her by. She wheeled her chair backwards and stretched out her back. Upon unlocking her cell phone, she realised Jane hadn't sent her a text in well over an hour. With half a smile, she headed to the one place she knew she would find her detective.
The sound of gun shots reverberated around the shooting range in the basement of BPD. Maura pulled a pair of ear defenders on and leaned against the wall. She watched Jane shoot and felt her body temperature rise.
Jane stood with both feet apart, hips thrust forward and shoulders squared. Her face was calm and measured as she fired off six shots into the head of the paper target. She exhaled and lowered the gun. After flicking the safety on and ejecting the magazine, she laid the Glock down and turned to Maura slowly. A hungry look lingered in her eyes. Both women removed their ear defenders and Jane crossed the walkway to press herself into Maura's space.
This part of the dance was new. Maura had never found herself pinned to a wall and here she was, twice in as many days, pressed between another and flush against the body of her detective. She hooked her thumbs into Jane's belt loops and pulled her closer. Jane dropped her head and captured Maura in a bruising kiss that took her by surprise. Jane bit down on Maura's bottom lip as she placed her hand behind her neck and applied light pressure with her fingertips. The doctor moaned in response.
"Jane. Jane, not at work." She said as Jane began to move her lips to Maura's jawline. Jane grunted and pushed their hips closer before pulling away. Maura reached up and pushed an unruly curl aside, "It's not appropriate. I assume you haven't made much ground this evening?"
"Nah, there's not much without what you can find for me." Jane replied. She moved off Maura and rested against the wall beside her. Her head fell back and she reached for Maura's hand. "Frankie noticed a couple of similarities to a cold case from last year but that's all. I guess Nina can do more when we get an ID."
Maura squeezed her hand lightly, careful not to hurt the scar on her palm.
"We'll do it as fast as we can. Let's go home."
Both women sat on the couch in Jane's condo cradling a drink. Jane used the neck of her beer bottle to pull her lower lip down a few times before taking another swig.
Maura had enjoyed watching Jane relax for years. Her silent, stolen glances taking in the lean, strong limbs of the detective. She had studied the way the tank tops Jane liked to wear stretched taut over her breasts and clung to her tight abs. The times that she wore running shorts, Maura occasionally let her gaze rake up to the apex of Jane's thighs as they did now and the familiar pulse began to beat its rhythm inside her. Jane looked over and saw Maura's staggered breathing. When their gaze met, a fire burned in Maura's eyes. She licked her lips, placed her glass down and moved to stand, offering her hand as she stood.
Jane allowed herself to be lead to her own bed. Wordlessly, Maura undressed before stepping forward and pushing Jane's tank up and casting it aside. She moved to push the offending running shorts down and they hit the carpeted floor with a soft thud.
"You defended me today." She whispered as she peppered kisses along Jane's collarbones. Jane let her head fall to one side and smiled.
"Yeah, I did. Nobody insults you like that, Maur." She rasped.
"I liked it a lot." Came Maura's reply. She leaned back and let her hands rest on Jane's abs. "Lie on the bed for me."
With a quizzical look, Jane obliged. Settling into the pillows with her knees up and ankles crossed, Jane watched Maura climb on top of her and position her own ample cleavage to brush against Jane's chest. The sensation made Jane groan and roll her hips upward, feeling the heat between Maura's legs.
"I need you. I really really need you." Maura whispered in her ear. She reached up above Jane's head and held the headboard before moving to hover over Jane's mouth, each thigh brushing the brunette's ears. The moan that escaped Jane was almost feral. Guttural and unbridled, it let a fresh wave wash over Maura and she felt her own arousal growing stronger.
Jane gasped into the heat as Maura gently lowered herself to Jane's waiting mouth. She inhaled and caught a drop of Maura's desire on her tongue. Her eyes fluttered shut and she licked a long, languid stroke through the doctor's desire and lingered over her clit.
Maura ground down and set a pace with Jane. Rolling her hips with each lick and nibble, Maura felt herself begin to tighten around Jane's tongue as she dipped inside her.
Her breaths became ragged as Jane upped her pace and held Maura's hips down. She ground down onto Jane's lips, seeking more contact and crying out when Jane sucked her clit into her mouth and strummed her tongue over the sweet, sensitive spot. She felt her orgasm building in her thighs as her walls fluttered for Jane. The detective kept her rhythm of licking and sucking and she felt Maura come undone. More wetness coated her chin and her nose as Maura climaxed above her, her knuckles white on the head board and her blonde waves bouncing around her shoulders as she shook.
When feeling crept back into her legs, Maura dismounted and lowered herself to lie by Jane's side. Her breathing was slow and sedate and she began to trail her fingers up Jane's sternum and along the tops of her breasts. A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
"I like it when you defend me." She whispered.
Jane kissed the top of her head and stroked her hair lazily. She felt the smaller woman's breathing slow as she slipped into a dreamless sleep.
