Disclaimer: I don't own Lucifer in any way, shape or form, this work is entirely fictional, any resemblances to real people and/or situations are no more than a coincidence. Also, English isn't my first language, and I don't have a beta, so I apologize for any mistakes you may encounter while reading.

Prologue to a dream.

"I thought I saw the devil this morning

Looking in the mirror, drop of rum on my tongue

With the warning to help me see myself clearer

I never meant to start a fire

I never meant to make you bleed

I'll be a better man today."

"Lucifer.", Mazikeen voice was enough to startle him out of his reveries, later he would be so often found lost in his own mind that the young Lilim was becoming worried about her master. Lucifer always had an agenda to everything he did, however, now he would just daydream and not talk to anyone. He wouldn't talk to her... "You have a guest."

His brown eyes took a while to focus and find her face, "What...?", he then seemed to remember what that was about, "Of course. Send him in.", the Lord of Hell dismissed his right hand. Watching her leave the throne room, unable to stop his thoughts about this place.

He felt tired.

Tired of everything.

If he could die, he would. Because the emptiness inside of his chest consumed everything else. Lucifer had never thought too much about how lonely it was in hell. No siblings, no parents, only demons and tortured souls. It's not like he wants company, he doesn't. After all, who would want to be anywhere near him other than the demons who serve him? And he has no use to humans that would just grovel around, begging to have their souls spared or asking him favours. And he didn't miss his family either. Okay... He misses his little sister, but that was something anyone could guess, after all, he basically raised Azrael ever since she was a fledgeling Other than that, none of his siblings even tried to understand him or the reasons behind what he did.

Was it really so wrong that he wanted to be free?

This time it was the sound of light footsteps that brought him back to the land of consciousness.

"I heard you wanted to talk.", the tall, dark figure was lean with longer limbs than it would be normal, his eyes were a deep darkness that shone with what could've been stars if Lucifer didn't know better. His hair floating almost as if he was underwater.

"I'm glad you could come.", Lucifer said, leaving the throne and walking until he was just a few feet away from the man, creature.

"When the Lord of Hell invites you to a chat it is always wise to listen to such a request.", the smile on his face never reached those disturbing eyes, but nothing ever seemed to affect them so Lucifer didn't take that as his guest faking politeness.

The King of Hell gestured to his guest, inviting him to the balcony, above them the crimson sky from which ashes were snowing. If Lucifer closed his eyes and tried really hard, he could almost forget about the screaming coming from the humans' souls.

"I've been thinking, Morpheus...", Lucifer said after a couple of minutes of silence, only broken by the screams of the damned, "I helped you deal with sweet Nada," he watched the scowl forming on Dream's face by the mention of the African Queen, "Is time for me to cash on our deal."

The Endless did not like having Nada brought into the conversation, but he knew it was inevitable, especially, if Lucifer was really intended in cashing on their deal.

"And pray tell, Light-bringer, what is that you wish from me?"

The grin forming on Lucifer's face was predatory.

...

"Isn't this the cosy place?" Lucifer was clearly being sarcastic even though that was no one around to hear his little quips about the place.

Perhaps he should have been a bit more specific when asking Dream for a place in his realm where he could escape to from time to time.

Everything around was stark white, from floor to ceiling, like being inside a box big enough to hold the universe.

"Being inside this blood box would be no different than being in hell.", it would be like trading a punishment for another, "At least in hell I have things to keep me distracted.", he was still talking to himself, thinking about the piano he got his hands on a couple of centuries ago. Lucifer was so busy cursing Dream that it took him a while to notice the exact duplicate of his piano that just appeared, made of dream fabric, and it hit him. Dream gave him a blank canvas to create his own dreamscape however he wanted, "Now... This is what I call fun."

Magnolia Park, Liverpool. 04:37pm

"Mom! Mom! Look!", the little girl came running from the other side of the small park where some kids were still playing, clearly excited to show her mother what she did. Short black hair flying around her face in the light breeze, it was, indeed, a nice day to be at the park, "See!", she opened her hand to show her mother what she was holding in them, "I made it better."

The smile on the six-year-old face wasn't mirrored by the child's mother. The woman could only look in disgust and creeping fear at the small, half-rotten bird her daughter was holding, when the dead bird moved with those milky-looking eyes staring straight at her she couldn't help slapping her daughter's hands, sending the dead bird a few feets away. Her own hand trembling, while her mind tried to reason what just happened.

"Don't you ever... Ever! Do something like that again.", the woman's voice was shaking as much as her hand, "That thing is dirty.", she said that but in reality, her mind was still trying to wrap itself around what just happened.

That was the last time they went to that park.

Actually, it was the last time they went to any park.

Elaine learned that day that she shouldn't tell people about the things she could do, they wouldn't believe her, or simply think her to be some sort of freak. So she kept quiet. She refrained of showing it even to her parents when she realized even they were scared of her.

Later that night, she dreamed about The Man for the first time.

AN: Hello everyone, thanks for reading till the end of this prologue. This is my first Fanfic so I'm still a bit lost. I decided to write this particular story after re-reading the comic books and thinking about how much a loved my favourite character being portrayed by Tom Ellis (he made Lucifer into an even more charismatic character), and also about how much I missed seeing other characters I love from the Comics in the show, like Elaine and Jill.

I admit I'm a sucker for family/humour genre when it comes to fanfics, so I just wanted to see the Lucifer from the show dealing with an existence like Elaine in his life. So be prepared to lots of fluffy, bits of anguish and comfort and some humour.

This will follow the show more than the comics.

If you like this story, leave a review and I promise to reply before the next chapter.
