He turns down the flame, gets the gratin dish from the cabinet and transfers the contents of the pan into it. He adds a generous amount of cheese on top and places the whole food in the oven. He sets a timer for 20 minutes and turns to her, soaking up the sight for a while.
She's sitting on a barstool in front of the kitchen counter and flips through one of her beloved fashion magazines. One hand plays absentmindedly with the stem of a half-full wine glass in front of her. She seems to be reading an article about god knows what, lightly biting down on her lower lip - something she always does when she's concentrating on something. He loves it, loves watching her being completely immersed in an activity without taking any notice of her surroundings.
Eventually, he notices a beautiful song playing in the background. He rounds the counter and steps up next to her, his hand outstretched. It takes her a moment to notice him. She looks up from the magazine, finds his piercing gaze and understands immediately. A sweet smile forms on her lips as she places her hand in his and gets up.
He beams back at her and pulls her closer, one hand resting in the small of her back, holding her to him. Her free hand comes to rest on his nape as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Ever so slightly they start moving to the rhythm of the song, gently swaying from left to right, getting lost in each other's embrace.
Wanting to feel her even closer, Harvey lets go of her hand and wraps both arms tightly around her frame. She places her hand on his chest, feeling his heart beating steadily under her touch. Her head comes to rest on his shoulder where she breathes in his familiar masculine scent and places tender kisses onto his throat. He closes his eyes and brings his lips to her forehead as they continue swaying to the music. They fit together like two puzzle pieces, no longer visible where one body ends and the other begins.
They stay like this and sway into the next song and the one after that, until at some point the timer indicates that their dinner is ready. Slowly, they separate without a word, just as they found their way into each other's arms without a word. If she were to ask him again today, he would answer "This is exactly how I love you.".
